Does anyone have any thoughts on the season so far? What have you liked or disliked? Is there a direction you'd like them to take the backstory?

My issue with tonight's episode: extremely predictable. Most episodes are not so predictable. Within the first 30 seconds I already knew he had PTSD combined with a sort of break with reality. The car accident was expected. I hadn't heard of the condition, but you knew exactly how the end would turn out.

Some of the comments - especially some of the witty banter - seem recycled and predictable. Yeah, it's still early in the season - usually there are some new writers each season and they haven't yet learned the characters and things usually improve over the first two months, but it still irks me.

I'm a little disappointed in tonight's episode. I really don't think anyone could just 'forgive and forget' what happened with Emily like they appear to be doing. I really hope that Derek has a blowout at some point in the season. Reid's reaction was closer to what you would expect, but then he's all smiles at the dinner without even talking to JJ? Heck, Reid had a crush on JJ and as he said, he kept going to her for weeks to cry. There has got to be residual issues there. And having a problem with JJ but not with Emily herself... I'm not sure about that.

As for the unsub tonight - seriously creepy! Seeing him through the camera talking about how torturing others makes him feel good kinda made me sick. Sure, there's plenty of freakish unsubs but seeing it through the camera tends to make it seem worse to me sometimes.

Right now I'm rewatching the episode. Right in the first minute of the episode is where they say only 4 people remained with the team in the prior 3 1/2 months: Rossi, Morgan, JJ, and Garcia. They had 17 cases in 14 weeks.

They mention that Reid's been spending a LOT of time at the shooting range since Prentiss was killed. Remember back to I believe it was first season, LDSK, where Reid had his gun taken away because he couldn't pass his firearms test? Hasn't anyone else noticed he still looks unsure when he holds a gun? He's never been a physically powerful guy and now he probably feels even more powerless. In addition to the abandonment issues and the strange headaches last season... poor guy's probably pretty messed up in the head by now. But that's part of his adorable charm, right? Then Strauss tries to comfort him with "at least you've got her back" and Reid's answer of "Did we?" makes it clear that he has doubts about the team. With about 10 minutes left is when Reid is in front of the panel and that's when they say he didn't request reinstatement. Then he shows off his brain and shows he put saving the kid in front of his own career.

Is it me or does Hotch look thinner and older? He seems like he's aged years and lost a couple dozen pounds. Sure the stress of his job and taking care of Jack on is own is rough, plus he was just overseas, but dang.

Yes, they centered the episode around Declan, but I think they had to. If they focused on her return it would be against canon. Every episode is based in a case, even if it involves family (like Hotch's family), then is framed with backstory. If they had a normal case, why would they need her back for that? If she randomly came back we'd question why now. So they needed to keep it on her story but still involve a case. They'll probably deal with the emotional blowouts throughout the rest of the season.

Very STRANGE season opener, the way it was written. I have to see it again to understand some of the plot with both girls back. I'm glad they are, but how it was done is bothering me. All the rest of their reactions were priceless and right on character. I just find it hard to make sense out of why it was done like it was and who the hell is responsible for taking them off in the first place??

I was just so happy to have the "family" back that I could forgive & overlook their skips and loose story lines.

I thought they brought Emily back at the perfect time in the prefect situation. The team had to focus on Decklin and did not have time to dwell in their feelings of anger, betryal and the lack of trust that I am sure most will feel. I think Rossi & Garcia will have the least problems. Rossi will understand the whys, and Garcia will just be thankful that Emily is alive. I think that Reid & Morgan will both have issues that will surface probably throughout the whole season.
I think the Reid not asking to come back was probably some kind of formal request that would have to be made for the review, but because they were cleared it was a moot point anyway. Loved Reids line also, but have to say that the faces of the team when Emily walked in are what is burned in my mind. I read that Morgan was supposed to speak but as they were filming everyone decided his looks spoke volumes, and no words were needed.

I think they should have blamed Strauss or Emily's mom but wonder if this story line will be about Hotch trying to protect JJ by shifting the blame to himself, she had to have been a major player in Emily's rebirth, they made such a big deal about her new job and the connections she had in it. I would not be suprised to find out it was the powers that be & JJ's doing and that Hotch was read in.

Just some of my thoughts, my brain isn't working real well tonight and I can't recall the half the team/cases thing.

Have a great weekend fellow CM fans!!

I can't wait for every Wednesday now, I LOVE this show, it is my one and only truely can't miss (since the Pretender ended).

So what are everyone's thoughts on last night's premiere?

The timeline jumping threw me off a few times last night. A few times it took me a few seconds to realize if it was 'now', 'back then', and 'her past'. That bugged me. Also they said that Reid was the only one not asking to come back to the team, but then at the end he was with the team...? That seemed like a writing error they forgot to fix. Did anyone not love the line "I am calm and it's DOCTOR." - I totally geeked out at that! haha

I'm not sure I liked Hotch saying the choice was his and if Morgan wants to take out his anger on anyone it should be on Hotch. Okay so Hotch was in on it - fine. But they should've had it be an order from Strauss or something. We don't want Morgan mad at Hotch! I still think Reid's abandonment issues will come up from this - probably at a really inopportune time.

What was with the 'half the team hasn't been around for months' thing, yet they solved 19 cases in 17 weeks or something like that? I was a little curious why they were solving so many cases with so few people... especially if that means the higher ups will think they don't need such a big team if they can do such a 'good job' with only half the team members there.
