Yeah, I think if there were more obvious differences it would be better. And like I said previously, they really should have had someone like Kevin Lynch working as their analyst instead of Garcia. That would be a big step in a better direction.

I'm not quite fond of new girl. Part if it is that it's hard to bring someone new into an established team. Yet, her circumstances are implausible, the character seems to be missing pieces, and she's only there now and again instead of every episode. I wish they could bring JJ back.

That's what I like about the CSI's. Although the idea is the same, all three, for the most part, are entirely different from each other. I agree, this one is stealing ideas. And about the "real" show-is it just me or does anyone else detest the new blonde as much as I do? I can't even bring myself to remember her name. Maybe it's because she's JJ's replacement that makes me cringe everytime I see her.

This past week's episode of CM:SB seemed like a reshoot mishmash of a couple episodes of the original series episodes: s4ep20 Conflicted (multiple personality janitor killing spring break patrons) and s4ep2 The Angel Maker (dead serial killer's groupies copycat his killings) and a couple others I can't think of off the top of my head now. Plus this whole thing with Garcia and them calling her "P" is really turning me off.

I like NCIS and after 2 or 3 episodes I came to like NCIS:LA because it really is quite different than the original. But CM:SB is feeling like a modest wanna-be remake of the original.

Not sure about the new show yet. I'm gonna watch it a few times before I make up my mind but they can't top the original.

God grant me the serenty to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

I didn't get to watch the premiere on Wed, but I recorded it and watched it earlier today. My take is that the characters are trying too hard to be different from the original show. And having Garcia in this show also - seriously wrong. If they supposedly work outside the normal chain of command, they would not share an analyst with other teams.

I don't see Whitaker's character as such a great leader like Hotch is. He obviously doesn't have much 'control' over his people, even if he is telling each person where to go or what to do. They seem to be more of a ragtag bunch of misfits who would prefer to do their own thing but realize they can't do an entire case alone, so they begrudgingly share information.

Of course, this is just the pilot - and pilots are often only partially like what the show will actually turn out to be. Still, I wasn't liking it. I might give it 1 more episode to see where it tries to go.

Wow, so it seems no one here is interested in seeing the new show. While I do agree with your reasonings, I still want to at least watch the first episode. I'm not expecting much though.

Thanks everyone for your opinions!

I prefer Reid with the longer hair. In tonight's episode it was short and messy. I hope he goes it back and soon.

Oh, I finally saw the promo commercial for the New show. Now I remember three of them from that episode where they worked with Hotch and the gang in tracking that creep that was grabbing father's and daughter's. I do remember thinking that guy with the accent that was partnered with Prentiss was kind a cute. But, I did not like that women, and as for Forrest Whitaker I could take him or leave him. So, I will remain faithful to the original Criminal Minds.

Hair is hair, it gets cut then grows back, but is it me or is it slowly getting even shorter? I know when Reid was working on the character, he was under the impression that a genius needs to be unkempt. So glad they nixed the long fingernails idea. Glad he's cleaning up Reid a little. But hopefully it doesn't get any shorter, because I don't think he would look good with Derek's haircut. haha

guess the hair makes him geek samson, i dunno. anywhoo, so not interested in the spinoff--forrest whitaker was never exactly my fave actor, and i'm just not interested in the new characters--that episode they were all in together annoyed the crap out of me--i don't wanna see the new one, wanna support my team (go reid and hotch and everybody else--i've missed a few episodes, so i'm not certain about the new chick, thought it was uber weird, though. they should've just kept things going as they were post AJ and not brought her in...at least, that's the feeling so far. maybe it'll turn around a little. hmm...)

do miss the reid hair--just made him quirky (though admittedly it was getting runaway a little before he did the chop chop last season) while his uber super brain did all that work, better than pocket-protector geek stereotype.

guess i'll have to make time to watch more episodes at some point--bad month to play catch up, though.

I don't know...I'm actually kinda used to the shorter hair now, and I'm not as outrageously opposed to it as I was in the beginning (mojo-robbing aside). That being said, I do truly miss his longer hair. Love me some MGG and Reid, regardless.

I see what you're getting at. haha His haircut may have completely thrown off the equilibrium of the show. Anyone think they can talk him into growing it back out to see if it helps?

Yeah, I knew that MGG's hair cut was initially self-inflicted. I follow his tweets religiously. :) That being said, it seems like that's when things seemed to start going awry. Perhaps his longer hair contained the show's mojo?

Just in case you might not know, Reid's haircut is completely Matthew's fault. After he finished directing Mosley Lane last season he decided to chop his hair off himself. He showed up on set with this horrible chop job and all the hair people could do was even it out and make it look some version of okay. Since then, it appears he likes the newer cut and has stuck with it.

I do agree that this season is just, well for lack of better word, weird. The characters aren't acting like they would in the past, the writing is lacking a bit, and getting rid of JJ and possibly Prentiss is just ridiculous. And trying to replace JJ with a look-a-like... epic fail.

Yet, I'm not ready to give up on the show just yet. Each episode I'm hoping it is going to get back to what it was.

I thought it was just me. Not sure if it's Reid's hair or not, LOL, but this season has definitely been different from the past, and unfortunately I have to say not in a good way. Every time I see the new girl I cringe a little. First of all, she looks WAY too much like JJ! And I had exactly the same thoughts- she's supposed to be in training at the FBI and suddenly she's a member of a highly specialized team? My only guess in replacing JJ with this girl is she must be the producer's wife's niece or something. And what's up with these weird storylines? New writers? They better start upping the quality pretty soon. I've been with this show from the beginning but I notice I'm looking less and less forward to seeing it.

I don't plan on watching. "The Fight," (or as BBDD1221 aptly described it, a commercial for the new show) was absolutely atrocious. Adding Janeane Garofalo and Richard Schiff isn't enough to lure me in.

I'm having a hard enough time getting into this season of the original CM, what with the odd storylines (Garcia moonlights as an actress? New inexperienced chick is suddenly a member of the team? Reid may or may not have some sort of serious physical/mental problem?--speaking of which, did that suddenly get dropped? In last week's episode, bright light didn't seem to bother him.) and the impending potentially-forever departure of Paget Brewster. I'm still mad about how Paget and AJ Cook have been treated, but most especially about Reid's hair. I'm fairly certain that haircut is when it all started to go downhill.

My thoughts are that I don't plan on watching the new show at all. I really don't care for spin-off shows.

The cast of the original Criminal Minds that I love the most Reid and was J.J. I do like Hotch and get a kick out of Garcia, but the rest of them I could take them or leave them especially Morgan (I find him way to cocky). I miss J. J. and wish she was still on the show.

I believe to each their own. It is doubtful that someone would love every character completely. I don't entirely like Rossi and Hotch is a miss sometimes as well. Heck, I adore Reid (and MGG too) but sometimes even he has an off moment.

I figure that if I watch the first episode and hate it, then I know. If I miss the first episode but catch the second and love it, then I have to find the first episode to catch up.

Looking forward to getting your opinion on the show if you do watch it.

I'm probably going to make a few enemies here, but I'm not really a big Garcia fan. I think her quirkiness is laid on a bit too thick on occasion. But, I like the Kevin idea a lot actually! That would have been a GREAT idea! Am I planning on watching it? Not sure. I have some resentments toward the new show already. It really irritated me when they used an entire episode of CM as a commercial for this show! I guess I'm with you, though-I'm curious, and I'll probably give it a shot. Maybe when they're in their own element and not intruding on *my* show, I'll like them better!

Just shy of 2 weeks until the premiere of CM:SB. Anyone have thoughts about the previews or have something they are hoping to see in the new show? Are you planning on watching it?

I find it funny that they are rolling it out the same way they did with NCIS:LA. A few months to a year before the show premieres they introduce the team on the parent show, then put the spinoff directly after the parent show. Makes me wonder if they really believe in these spinoffs or if they wanted to just parasite off the fans of the parent show. I guess it worked with CSI, but there's a point where there needs to be some fresh ideas. Plus, when they share characters it also makes me a little annoyed. NCIS:LA has used the director now and again and Abby a couple times. CM:SB is going to use Garcia in quite a few episodes it seems. I know it will not be the same, as she won't have Derek to harmlessly flirt around with, so how are they going to use her quirky qualities in a productive way? Wouldn't it have been better to give them their own analyst - maybe even Kevin Lynch! We know he's good enough for Garcia to ask for his help when she is overloaded.

Even with all that said, I'm curious. I like NCIS and I like NCIS:LA, but I'm not completely in love with either show. I love CM, so will that make CM:SB more likeable based on subject matter approach or less likeable because it just will not be the same without the characters I love? I guess I'll find out.

So what are your thoughts?
