I liked the ending, too... it seemed to cement the importance of Penelope to the team and it highlited what a good "boss" Hotch is... allowing growth and exhibiting appreciation!

We should all take that example to our daily lives!

There is no way to determine who is responsible or not. That is part of the story, they never tell you, we never know. Like the Doctor said he delivered most of the kids and adults in that town or his father did. We don't know the answers to those questions. We don't know who beat him up, we don't know who teased him, we don't know any of that information, only the town does, and Tommy. Those questions were never addressed or answered.

I think the realization that everyone is responsible for their own choices applies to the town as well. Tommy never blames them verbally, but he obviously did attitudinally - otherwise he wouldn't have been compelled to get even with the town. Yes, some of the townspeople were jerks, ignorant, whatever adjective you choose to use -- but "the town" was not to blame; individuals who lived within the town should have been held responsible for their decisions.

Tommy never blames anyone, no where in the script does he. The team realizes the town made a lot of mistakes, and caused a lot of Tommy issues, and then the mishandling of Tommy all his life, but Tommy never comes out and blames anyone, all he ever say is I love you Tina, to his sister, I love you. He doesn't blame anyone. The profilers and even Mike Rooker's Character realize what happened. While we like to believe that at an age there needs to be a line drawn and say you are now responsible, but when do we as a social structure take responsible. It takes a village to raise a child--is that motto only conventient when the child turn out well behaved? We can't have it both ways. The village messed up that child, the village paid the price as did the child, the child paying the bigger price in the end and all along.

I agree with Game - and have a CM example too -- remember a few seasons ago, there was a serial killer murdering entire families and Hotch was doing the interview when the guy was caught. The killer kept trying to blame his choices on his abusive father. At the very end, the guy turns to Hotch and basically says with everything he went through, what else would he have become? Hotch tells him the guy who catches the people like them, inferring Hotch came from a sucky home life. Yes, what happens to us as children give us a predisposition for certain behavior, but no matter what our age or background, we choose and are responsible for our actions.

Tommy problem's weren't that easy to fix, they could have been, if the town didn't add to them, if the town didn't make it worse. I am like you I don't believe in giving excuses, but at the time you can't expect a 6 year old to understand death, fire and lose of his whole world, except his sister, love is something developed early and if it's developed or warped as his was by tragic events and not fixed, and instead, made worse, made fun of, his idea that his love for his sister, (not romantic at the time most likely) becomes more warped as time goes by because he is beaten, taken away made fun, etc. So she becomes his focus to stay "sane" and then it becomes worse, especially as his rage begins to emerge.

I agree, we can't make excuses, as an ex-profiler I hated when people did that, but in some cases like Tommy's it's not excuses it to many bad factors adding up to make on angry kid. He knew what he was doing. He didn't deny it, he didn't even hide it, he even told his sister why.

I liked the way they did her part in this show, she got a real good look at what they really do in the field and she also found out that she is irreplaceable.

I enjoyed Garcia having a more active role. I was a little concerned that she was going to just walk off and say she couldn't do it anymore. I was glad when she vented and then Hotch thanked her and told her how important she was to the team. The whole story was icky, but I know that those things really do happen in real life which makes it even worse.

Personally, I really can't stand that people use what happened to them as a child as justification for their horrible behavior as an adult! These people use it as an EXCUSE (b/c an excuse is all it is) when they could be using the bad childhood as a driving force to better themselves as adults. I KNOW from personaly experience that a horrible childhood doesn't have to mean you're predisposed to leading a horrible adult life.

I'll come off my soap box... just wanted to vent. :o)

I really liked that Garcia had a more active role in last nights episode. Even thought it bothers me to watch shows that kill off little kids.

But what they said about being 6 and love bond formed is very true, sadly what the town did caused most of the issues for that child and then it turned into a bigger issue for him as an adult. The love for his sister..vomit I agree, but the blame can't be laid at a child's feet, when it was a series of mistakes, all set up for that child to turn out that way.

I did like the way it end with Hotch talking to Garcia. He made sure they appreciated her for being her even though he made her do the profiling thing. I liked also how he let her blow off her anger.

That was the show that really made her part of the team. Showed how much she really was cared for and needed by them all.

They would not get rid of Garcia, she is now a much needed source for the BAU. Besides they did that other show which focused on her, when she was shot and she is still here.

I agree. I really do like her character. And I don't think it would be beneficial to the show to mess with the dynamics of the cast. I do hope that this episode makes her a more integral part of the team and not just the computer genius in the tiny windowless room.

They won't remove Garcia, it's be like taken Morgan or someone else out, she is to much part of the team now. Elle and Gideon you could see leaving.

From the previews, it looks like Penelope Garcia is the focus for this week's episode. Do you think this will take her to a higher level of activity with the team, or will it be the beginning of the end (like Elle and the substitute for JJ)?
