If you can find a beginner class to take for a few weeks, to supplement a dvd, I think you might get a lot out of it. Power yoga, ashtanga and hot yoga would be the classes to avoid for a beginner, and hatha or vinyasa slower, easier to find out how to make sure your alignment is proper and work on flexibility, in my opinion. Once you have some of the basics down, practicing at home will be safer and probably less frustrating. the yoga journal website might have some dvd ideas. There's also a Yoga Lover's team on SP- the team members might have some other ideas for dvds. Good luck and enjoy!

Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.

I have found Leslie's to be pretty easy to follow. If you are a member of Netflix you could try it out through them.

I have the Biggest Looser Yoga with Bob. It isn't easy but it is do-able. He offers modifications to the routines as he goes which helps. My problem with yoga is that I have to hold up my own weight (too much!), but I do enjoy the DVD.

Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask why climb the highest mountain? ... Why does Rice play Texas? We choose to [do these things], not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win..."

Is this an easy beginner type dvd? I wouldn't want to injure anything on this old body of mine!

I just did You Can Do Yoga by Leslie Sansone this AM. While doing that this morning I decided I am going to start my day off every day in March with Yoga. It really feels good and I think will be a great start to the day.

I can't do most of the yoga DVD's. I was at a conference & did a free class where the exercises were modified for my health.
I do my yoga to get out of bed & it helps so much.

I wish you luck in finding what is best for you

I am interested in starting Yoga at home. After doing a little research, I realized there are many different kinds of Yoga. From what I have read, it sounds like Namaste Yoga is the easiest to begin with, especially for a 52 year old. Does anyone have anymore info for me, or can someone recommend a DVD to begin with?
