Look at this as a lifestyle change and not a diet. Diets don't work. Oh, they might for a while, but then when you go off it and get back to normal the weight comes back and then some. With a lifestyle change nothing is off limits. If you go above your calorie range a day now and then, that's okay. If we deny ourselves celebrations, foods we love, cravings, etc. we won't stick with it. Two hundred calories over, no big deal. In fact, I have found when I go over calories a day or two (say the weekend) I might show gaining a pound or two on Monday. But, later in the week it is gone with another one or two. Our bodies love variety.

I totally understand that Roxie - I am all about food for celebrating, treating, etc. I love to try new things and new restaurants. When I am with my friends and family, I eat. When I am traveling, I eat.

When my days are normal and subdued, I stick to my diet so much better, but when my world gets disrupted I go off the plan. I'm not sure how to deal with that, but I do try to make sure my life is pretty normal most of the time with smaller "special" events happening once in a while. That helps for me

I'm a very disciplined person. But I think losing weight is the single hardest challenge of my life. My goal is have my clothes fit better, look better, and feel more comfortable. In pounds I'd like to be 185 and I started at 216. I think a lot has to do with what I learned growing up. My parents were born in 1916 and 1921. They celebrated with food, because they finally had some. But, food is so plentiful now that every day is a celebration with food. That's what's wrong, any excuse to over-indulge. THat's my real fight.

WEll I've joined the "By the numbers" team, and have increased my caloric range - to a surprising 2300 - in light of my height and activity level this is actually well within range to avoid too large a calorie deficit -- apparently-- next we'll have to look at mixing up the exercise regime to see if I can re-start the weight loss. I was reading a magazine article in a waiting room yesterday in which the author went on at length about why diets dont work, basically concluding that the reason is that overweight people eat too much - with no reference to what overweight people might eat, or how exercise fits into the picture. The solution: laproscopic band surgery, because fat people simply cant control themselves. It's so demoralizing that such ignorance persists. I might agree that I became overweight because I was eating more than I needed to, but I was also sedentary. I am no longer sedentary, in fact I exercise about 10 hours per week. I cook healthful, nutritious meals with lots of fresh ingredients, and I am mindful of portions. I am still overweight, but F?*k off if you think its because I lack control or eat too much. ARgh. Well, I feel better after my little rant. Happy weekend everybody.

I had two blow out days this week. One day I went to an event after work, and last night I went to a St. Pat's party. My calories were over 2600! Thank goodness I got more than my regular amount of exercise in this week, maybe that'll help balance things out... emoticon

I suspect that calorie defecit may be the problem. If you can email that formula to me, or post it here, I would be much obliged. Ciao!

I have been stuck around the same number for months now. I have tried all the plateau busters, which work for short while then I stop again. This month I have decreased my cardio workouts. The number I have been stuck at was 169.5. Yesterday I saw 165.5. So, looks like it is working. I have a deficit formula I have started using that I will share with you. I don't have time this morning, but will later.

Have a great day!

I finished cleaning most of my fat clothes out of the closet over the weekend, donating 3 garbage bags of business and casual wear to the local charity shop. Feels good to have all those empty hangers, however, feels not so good to have no pants to wear to work. Off to do a little emergency shopping on my lunch break. And having fun plotting my new summer wardrobe. I'm trying not to buy much - I still want to loose 25 more pounds, but I need a few fab outfits to get me through the week. That said, I have been stuck at 205 (up and down a bit, but this is my lowest) - for 2 months. This week I have been extra careful about tracking food, getting sleep and water and exercise - and no movement. I keep reminding myself to be patient but boy oh boy, am I frustrated. Will have to take some time over the weekend to strategize about how to get rid of the last 25. ARGH.

I really should clean out my closet and get rid of what doesn't fit. It would be a motivation to have the space and shop a little

I set those fat pants aflame! Too much fun. Actually, I just cleaned out my closet and have two big bags of business clothes to donate. Very satisfying. Sadly, I have very little to wear to work these days, but it is a price I am willing to pay...

Good morning team,
Lots of snow today and a 2 hour reporting delay. Want to just start a fire and cuddle on the couch and watch a movie. Hope you all have a wonderful and active day.

That is Tony's from last year. We went to Talladega last October. Tony is the main driver I follow, but have several others, too. No! Jeffie isn't one of them, in fact he is among my least favorites...sorry. We live in Vancouver, so we have to pull for Biff. Also, Kasey since he is a Washingtonian. DH is from Wisconsin, so Matt Kenseth is another one we cheer for. I've only been following NASCAR for 3 or 4 years. I had to move from Bama all the way to Washington to get into NASCAR. Never liked it when I lived 45 minutes from Talladega.

Hey Babie Jane, I just noticed your picture, is that the Tony Stewart car of last year or this years with, is it Aric Amirola? Can't remember for sure who is driving it this year. We are big Nascar fans too. Been following Jeff Gordon (please don't stick your tongue out) since he came to Nascar but are really impressed with the team Hendrick has put together. Never liked the Earnhardt's but glad Junior is with us. This year I am rooting for Mark Martin. Always been a fan of his, so that made me hate Kevin Harvick for beating him out that year. Nobody deserves a championship more than Mark Martin. So I will cheer him on until he wins a championship or retires, again!! Good luck to your driver!

Well I didnt end up doing many sessions of the bootcamp, but I did stick to my other goals (2-3 runs per week, plus weight training, 2-3 yoga classes per week, including my core strengthening class). The core class was great. REally hard, really humbling (apparently not as flexible as I was when I was 10 years younger, what a surprise) - and I am planning on signing up for the next 6 week session which starts March 2. Hope all are well.

If it is like the Swimsuit Boot Camp last spring they will keep it as a team. So, you can still do the workout with others that stay on the team.

I love the boot camp. It is a little boost to what I am already doing without a great investment of time. I think I will just continue to cycle through the daily workouts even when it is over with.

I am doing the Boot Camp, also. I like the workouts because they are quick and probably exercises I wouldn't do on a normal day.

Keep up the great work you are doing. Let us know how the rediscover you abs class goes.

I've done a few of the SP boot camp videos - great for days when I dont get to the gym or yoga. I thought that they would be a bit more advanced, but still like them because there is so much variety. I am starting a "rediscover your abs" class tonight that runs for 6 weeks, will get to the gym Tues/Thursday and to yoga 3 times as well. No wonder the weeks speed by so quickly... Happy Januaary everybody.

Good for you for making that investment (the treadmill). I just joined a new gym, and went for the first time today. I hope we both find it easier to stick with it now that we have our new "toys" haha. emoticon

I'm definitely ready (and NEEDING) to recommit!! I've switched gym memberships, tracking all my calories again, and ready to make this a priority again now that the holidays aren't taking up my time.

I'm definitely ready to re-commit. After over indulging during the holidays, which is always a problem with well meaning family members, I'm ready to get back on track! I cleaned out the refrigerator yesterday, gave away any left over treats and started the bootcamp workouts as well as additional exercise for myself. I'm paying closer attention to what and how much I'm eating. So, here's to a great 2009!!
