My mom's last Christmas is one of my fondest memories. It was extremely cold, especially for Alabama. Mother had a difficult time warming up, so all the pictures of her that year she is bundled up in her coat, gloves and had this fake fur hat on her head. Even though it was cold and she wasn't in the best shape, she insisted her and Daddy would come to our house as normal to see what Santa had left for Melody. My Christmas present from her and Daddy had been brought to the house Christmas eve...a piano. I played it and played it that night (if that is what you could call it) and was so thrilled with it. Even if those around me weren't to thrilled with my playing. They gave Melody a brass daybed with trundle, it was beautiful. I still have the piano in my living room, but it needs work so I can't play it. We just recently donated the daybed to Salvation Army. It broke my heart to see it taken away, but hopefully some family will get good use of it. I remember later that afternoon at Mother and Daddy's, Melody and Mother went to lie down for a nap. I decided to join them and the three of us cuddled up in the bed and watched Little House on the Prairie. It was a wonderful day, even with sadness in the back of our heads.

My favorite holiday memory was back in 98 when my mom was still here. That was the last holiday we were all together as a family. The tree was always the center of the festivities. I would go out and find the biggest one that would fit in the house (at least 8ft high) and we would spend the evening decorating it and playing "I know what you're getting...." . It was always the best time and is still my favorite holiday!! Now it's me doing it with my family and playing the same game emoticon

One of my funniest Christmas memories of my mother was one year I gave here this cabinet you hang on the wall that had drawers and the drawers were filled with every imaginable sized screw you would ever need. My mom was the handy 'man' and not my dad. She was always thrilled if she received some sort of tool as a gift. The year I gave her that cabinet she told everybody she got 101 screws for Christmas. emoticon emoticon Not only was she the handy 'man', she had quite a sense of humor.

Come to think of it, you're right, that IS kinda different having a Dad decorate (and do it all).
He was very much into surprises and that's what probably motivated him to decorate. Other than at Christmas time, he never, ever decorated anything else. My Mom did all the rest of it.

That seems different to me. My mother did all the decorating, I don't recall my daddy doing any of it. I have always been the one to do the decorating for my family. Melody might help me a little when it was me and her. DH does as little as possible.

Coming homw from a "shopping trip" with my Mom and finding the whole house!!! decorated for Christmas!
Tree, lights, Nativity scene.
Breath taking & "magical" surprise for a young child.

{Didn't find out til I got older that my Dad was the Secret Santa Decorator}

Often times our families here are large. My daughter-in-laws siblings number nine or ten. When they get together with spouses, children, grandparents and aunties it can be a large crowd. A couple of years ago they sang the Twelve Days of Christmas with individual(s) singing the line that their birthday was in. My shy six year old grand daughter sang hers alone because she was the only October birthday.

Actually my favorite memory isn't that old. It was my mothers last Christmas with us 04. I had a Christmas Eve party n my son dressed up as Santa. I had just reconnected with my brother so his kids didnt know my son. It was the 2nd Christmas I spent with my mom in about 10 yrs. My moms favorite pic from that day is my son(Santa), my brother, n my hubby(who my mom was just getting to know). Wish my sister could have been there. And I had a about to b 3 foster child who called me titi mom n would call my mom - mom's mom.
Sorry so long

When my brother and I got too old for Santa to leave presents under the tree, he (using my Mother's typewriter)would lead us on a scavenger hunt. It would start with the first clue wrapped in a box left under the tree which led us to the next clue and so forth. It was so much fun. In fact, I did this last Christmas for one of DH's gifts.
