Hey Lefty84, Boxer39 here...everything that everyone has suggested i agree with as well...your body is like a nickel hydride battery...it establishes a memory...if you don't drain it completely before re-charging it, it only charges up to the memory it created...change up your exercise routine, change your food intake...and definitely add the snacks...it really does make a difference and you don't get those sluggish times during the work day...
Keep your chin up, and walk proud of the accomplishments you have achieved...think of how your life was before SP and what it is now...

That is the greatest achievement you can give yourself...you have changed your lifestyle around to something much better!!!

I too have not had the scale move at all, but I figured out that I am still eating too much.
One thing that I have started doing is actually measuring or weighing what I eat. I have also gotten the calories of food at fast food places, so that if I break down and go there, I know what will be the least bad to get.
Another thing I read on another post is to check your ratios: it actually helps to keep fat in your diet and to balance protein and carbs with the fat, and the tracker shows that if you click on the report button on the bottom.
I know what you are going through!

I would say a definite NO to Splenda, chemicals are the last thing our bodies need.

Do you think your metabolism is stunted with the same calories every day? Or the same type of workouts? Do you have one high calorie day a week to shake things up? Or try new workouts/machines/interval training at the gym, or a new workout DVD or cardio or strength training class. Maybe take up something new. Push your intensity one workout a week, have a longer workout one session each week than all the others. Hmm... take portable healthy snacks with you, like fruits, nuts, yogurt to tide you over & keep your metabolism going until you can have an actual meal.

I pretty much ignore the scale. My weight fluctuates depending on the TOM, whether I weigh in the morning or at night, etc.

When I add working out to the equation, I gained a few pounds before the scale said I lost a few my first few weeks. Why? Muscle weighs more than fat, and I'd started working out again. That's all there is to it.

If I use the scale & feel depressed about it, I get out the measuring tape, and sure enough, I do lose in terms of size. I don't care if it's a tenth of an inch - man I count it as a part of my "loss"! Oh - and another thing - I pull that measuring tape as tight as I can get it! I HAVE to feel like I'm accomplishing something or I would lose my motivation!

There isn't much else I can say that others haven't already said. Believe me, I understand your frustration. When I first started this lifestyle change the weight was leaving fast, but over the past year almost it has been touch and go. I have tried everything suggested in the plateau buster articles here on SP, if you haven't read them do. Most of the time what works for me in getting the weight leaving again is to take a break. Break from counting calories, although I am so in to the habit of counting I still do it in my head. If I go over calories, oh well. Break from workouts. I am addicted to my workouts and this is a difficult one for me to do. But, take a break for a few days from those workouts. These two things may cause you to put on 2 or 3 pounds, but when you go back to your normal routine the weight starts dropping again. Another thing I have done to ease the frustration caused by the scale is to get rid of it. I had DH hide it from me and only weighed twice a month.

As others have said it isn't the pounds we need to always go by. The way my clothes fit and the smaller sizes are what keeps me going.

You can do this! If one thing doesn't work move onto another.

BJ

It can be very frustrating to not lose weight! One thing that helps me get through is tracking inches as well as pounds - seeing the inches decrease is a nice motivation! Also, since this is a lifestyle change to make a difference in your health and quality of life for the better, I like to focus on different goals aside from weight. Like getting to the point where you can run a mile, or do 10 pushups, eating all your fruits and veggies, reaching for water instead of soda, etc.

Another thing that works well for me when the weight stagnates is to look at what I'm eating rather than how much. 1500 calories of processed foor is not the same as 1500 calories of fresh, real food. I don't think switching to spenda will really make a difference in a good way.

Last, sometimes it just takes a little time for you body to catch up. and if it's been about 5 weeks, you have probably your period to thank for a little stagnation - I never really was good at losing weight at that time in my cycle. GL! and Hang in there!

That's true, there have been a couple days where my eating schedule got screwed up. The skipped meals are never on purpose, but if I go out at night and sleep in till 11, well, I eat breakfast at noon and a combo lunch and dinner at 5.

And you're right about veggies -- I get most of mine at dinner, so if I don't get in a real dinner, I do NOT get enough veggies.

Food for thought.....

Lefty~

I'm sorry, that is SO frustrating when you think you're doing everything right and not getting the results you want.

I agree with Missey - you could be losing inches instead of pounds, especially with all the strength training and cardio you are doing. I like to measure every two weeks. Some go by the fit of their clothes, but I like to have the numbers. It helps me to stay positive. This week, I also didn't lose any weight, but I did lose inches. So it helps to reassure me that the program I'm on is working.

Also, I looked at some of the days on your food diary and it looks like you skipped meals on some days. I think your body thinks you're trying to starve it when you do that - so it clings to every calorie - regardless of what your final caloric intake is for the day. I'm trying (still learning!) to eat smaller meals throughout the day. I try to have a mid-morning snack and an afternoon snack. This is supposed to help keep your metabolism running throughout the day, rather than dropping off. I also try to incorporate lots of veggies (spinach, romaine, etc) because they're lower in calories but packed with the minerals your body needs.

I hope this helps - I'm not an expert by any stretch....but still have the training wheels on.

Good luck!

Lefty - I have been going thru the exact same thing. Working hard and my scale doesn't move. But then today I put my underwear on and they were almost too big. My point other than be a little funny is that it is not in the pounds lost as my friends have told me over and over it's in the inches. Try xhanging up the routine a bit your body gets used to the same old same old.

Hopes this helps!

Hi everyone -- I need a little BOOST here.

I've been on SP for 5 weeks now, and I've lost 7 pounds, all of which were in the first 3 weeks (I attribute a lot of that to the end of my period as well though). For the past two weeks, my weight hasn't gone down.... in fact, this week it was UP a pound!!! I've been faithful about working out on schedule, I've been eating within my calorie limits, and I'm drinking more water.

I'm just really really frustrated, because I don't know what else I can DO... Should I try to exercise twice a day, on days that I have time, instead of once? Should I go back to using Splenda in my coffee even though I know it gives me awful carb cravings?

I feel like there's nothing else left to CHANGE, but maybe you guys can suggest something I'm just not seeing.

HELP!!! emoticon
