Babie Jane, thanks for the info. I do get easily bored with the same routine, maybe it's my body telling me it's time for a change!

Joholz, I have the same food problem too. Have you tried importing food item from other Peruvian members? Or perhaps, you could do a web search and find the approximate nutritional value of common Peruvian dishes, and enter it into your favourite foods. Or, use the recipe page on SparkPeople to enter the ingredients of your dish, then use the calculated nutritional values in your favourite food tab. Do share your food items as other people might be having the same problem too.

I think everybody feels a bit overwhelmed at first when they join SP. Please let me know if you need help or have questions. Have you watched the videos to help you get started at SP?

I'm just getting the hang of SP web, has anyone else felt a bit overwhelmed? there are so many links and options, which is good, but it takes a lot of time to navigate. I'm trying to discover a bit more at a time. And meal plans don't work for me, I live in Peru and the proposed meal plans just aren't what I'm used to eating, but adding my own food and seeing calories add up is great! I can monitor my own diet, recommended by a nutricionist. Also, got back on track with playing tennis, and I have discovered the gym at my club, it's great and FREE! Wanting to sleep and eat is still winning so far, but I'm battling.

Sometimes tricking your body by taking in more calories and having a different routine will help you to lose weight. Just like we get bored with the same thing and doing the same thing day in and day out so does our body.

I've been here about a week and a half. Last week exercise-wise was quite good, after several days when it came time to do some serious house-cleaning I found it didn't tire me out as much as it used to. I managed to do 2 hours heavy-cleaning, then drive 3 hours, unpacked, and managed to go hiking. This wasn't possible at all before, the cleaning would've worn me out!

Unfortunately during the trip I splurged on food, too many buffets and eating out. I went wayyy past my calorie intake on a few days. But surprise, surprise, when I weighed in today I actually lost 1.2 kg (2.5 pounds!) So hurray hurray! This should motivate me not to pig out so much in the future, I might've lost more weight if I didn't eat so much!

Today makes 6 days. I truly am enjoying this site. Yesterday I spent the day in bed on pain pills & my breathing machine. But as soon as I was able to funtion today, filled in yesterday & started today. Even though I only ate once yesterday, I did drink the water.

You realize walking to work and class is exercise. Not only does it take the same amount of time as riding the bus, but it burns more calories.

I joined a week ago tomorrow, and I kept with my first goal of logging everything I ate! This is the longest I've ever went logging my food. I know 6 days isn't that much yet, but in the past I could never log more than 2 or 3 days in a row without forgetting or deliberately not doing it. I had a mind block before where if I don't log it, the calories don't "count". I think I was just too scared to really see how much I was eating. So this week I made myself log no matter what and it definitely keeps me motivated to eat healthier so that I won't have to log bad food later.

I'm having problems fitting exercise into my day. I went to the gym last Saturday and Sunday and plan to do so again this weekend, but it's hard finding time in the week. However, I started walking to work and class in the morning (1.5 miles) and I realized it takes the same amount of time to walk as it does to ride the bus during rush hour!

Next week's goal: water! I don't drink anywhere near enough of it. Does anyone have any good health and weight loss benefits of water to motivate me?

I haven't quite finished my first week yet, so I haven't weighed in, but so far it seems to be going great! The first day that I joined I did things the way I normally would and geez was I surprised...I was taking in so many calories. After seeing those numbers it definetly was easy to cut back and every day it seems to get more easy. I'm extremely excited to weigh in and see how I'm doing..here's hoping for at least 2-3 pounds!

I am so loving reading all your posts! You are doing emoticon Coming up with ways to get the water in, making healthier eating choices and finding ways to get in the cardio. Keep sharing with each other. If your idea helps even one person that is super.

Yes, the SparkPoints are addictive. But, that's good because it helps you to learn the site. It, also, encourages you to read articles and learn new things. It even encourages you to do some kind of workouts in order to get points. Since y'all are liking the points, I have a challenge in mind for next month that involves points. We have done it on my Lifestyle Change team and they enjoyed it.

Keep up the emoticon work!

Windsurfer - you're not the only one. I also get ridiculously excited about racking up the sparkpoints. I think this is where our competetive sides will be put to good use.

I started on Friday, so it hasn't been a full week yet. I snuck on the scale on Monday and had already lost over a pound. But I'm trying to wait until Friday for my next weigh-in.

#'s aside, it's been a great first "week." I feel great - been exercising every day and sticking to my nutrition plan. I also will enter my food before I eat. It helps me be mindful of my portion sizes and also keeps me from cheating. If I'm thinking about a snack, I enter it in. When I entered in mixed nuts - I was shocked at how many calories are in the little buggers!

Mannett71- the website for the before and after models is mvm.com.

My first week was OK...I love SP, and think it is a great motivator, and what an eye opener!

I didn't realize how many calories I was eating. I think my biggest challenge will be sticking to my calorie range and eating more than a couple times a day. I work afternoons, and my fiancee works days, so to come up with a meal plan or use the plans here are intimidating to me.

Exercise has been more consistent this week than any previous weight loss attempt for me.

I am down 4 lbs this week, not a bad start!

Well my first week has gone fairly well food wise, not so good exercise wise!
I'm really going to try and get the fitness up this week and see how much of a diff that makes, hopefully I'll feel better too!

Anyway, I lost 2lbs emoticon

I'm following Missey around on the board today, it seems! (HI MISSEY!)

Okay ... I've been learning a lot about the stuff I eat. Yep. Have had days when I've gone waaaaay over what I should have. I had no idea how fast my "normal" way of eating was adding up to so much fat and so many calories!

For me, that's been the greatest thing about being here. The next greatest thing about being here is that voice in the back of my head that whispers "C'mon girl. You MUST log something for your fitness log today or you're not going to get your points!!!!!"

Err ... okay ... so I may be a tad bit competitive. I can't believe how excited I get about those little spark points!

emoticon

My largest challenge is drinking 8 cups of water a day. I changed my goal to 4 cups of water a day. I drink a lot of milk, so I know that I'm staying hydrated.

(Will not give up my milk!) emoticon

GO TEAM!

I think I did great this week!! I kept my momentum and excitment to a maximum and tracked all of my food. I lost 3 pounds. Yesterday I joined a gym and bought 3 sessions with a personal trainer to help me get started! I kept up with my water, mostly by not having any soda in the house.

I was reading thru the posts and I think we are ALL doing GREAT!! Keep up the good work. If you need some support I am here to help!

Well I am still here and that is saying a lot. I did lose one pound do that is good. I like counting my calories, I actually input before I eat so I know that I don't want to go back for more. Water is harder for me as I have been a big soda drinker. I got rid of the soda except for one late in the week and replaced it with tea after 3 days of mostly water. I like the idea someone posted about measuring out my requirements and drinking it all before days end. I have a 64 oz water mug around here somewhere. I am working on adding a fitness routine that I can do with my siblings and mom for support. Overall a good first week.

Has anyone else been having a hard time with this? I guess I didn't realize just how much junk I was eating until I started tracking it. My calorie count has been all over the place these past 8 days. Motivation to workout has also been an issue for me. It's cold outside and even the dogs don't want to walk! I only lost 1 lb but I guess that's better than nothing at all.

I lost a little over a pound and I'm completely happy with that. I have kept to drinking a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day. I found it helps to have a 32 oz water bottle with me and a bathroom one flight down and on the opposite end of the hall when I'm at work. I have kept my calories in check and have gotten in the workouts I planned. So for week one, it's a HIT.

Hi There,

I've had a good week, still getting used to a few things, and I am better with the dieting than the exercise, but overall improving every day. I had trouble getting all my water in until I started measuring it into a 2L jug which I refill my water bottle from, I keep the bottle with me wherever I go so I sip on it whenever I see it, and refill it from the jug till they are both gone.

Hi all! I did GREAT this week! I am sooo happy. I have not eaten anything that I didn't think about and I didn't eat anything that I would consider "cheating". I have an official weigh in day as Sunday Monday and I have lost 4.5 lbs. Yay! I know this next week will be more difficult but I CAN do it! We all can do it!

I've at least been keeping track of my calories every day and I've been working out. I need to drink more water. It's kind of hard to stay within my calorie limit but I have done it a few times. No weight loss yet, but it's bound to happen!

I did pretty well last week! I did miss one workout on Thursday (I explain why in my blog), but I was excellent about tracking my calories and making sure I put in a little extra effort into my Friday and Saturday workouts to compensate. I've lost a pound, so I must be doing something right!!

Week one has been pretty good. My water consumption has been good - I learned a trick, since I don't really like drinking water too much. I fill a glass that holds 2 cups, and I chug away until it's gone - usually takes about 15 seconds. Do that four times a day and I'm golden! I recommend it! The exercising has been good, too. Loving the walking! Also, I think I just got a buddy, so that should be fun - and helpful! So far, so good! :)

I am two pounds lighter, yea!

This first week has been a challenge. Breaking my bad habits is not a easy task. I'm feeling great though and have noticed a difference in my energy level.

Mondays will be my official weigh in days I think. I'm working on getting a system down to help me get into a routine.

I really joined SP last year around this time and did ok for a couple months then i guess i got bored. I came back a week ago and feel really strongly that I can keep it going this time. I'm trying to be more involved in chats and would like to meet some friends. I'm considering this my "first" week and I did very well.

I haven't weighed in yet, as I still need to buy a scale (been avoiding that one!) I did well for the first couple days, and then went out of town for the weekend and ate WAAAAAY too much fast food. I did manage to stick to the no sodas and no eating after 9:00 though. The no eating after 9:00 is a big one for me, I tend to get the munchies somewhere around 11:00. I also managed to keep my portions down, so even if the food wasn't the healthies choices, it wasn't in huge quantities and if I wasn't hungry any more I stopped eating rather than forcing myself to finish something I no wanted to eat.

Week one has been fun...but starting tonight the real work begins. I am actually going to give Curves a try to see how it will work for me. I was all set to work out at home, but realized that was my downfall before. Its too easy to just get into normal "after work" routines if you don't make a change. So instead of trying to go out after I have already been home, its a short stop right next to my second home (the grocery store).

Week 1 was fun. I'm loving this group. You are all great and it's nice to know that you aren't alone and everyone is on the same page as you are.

Week one was pretty good. We got resistance bands at work for our "excess baggage" competition at work, and learned two workouts so far with them...and all I can say is WOW they kick my butt. Who knew one little resistance band would be such a challenge?

Cindy, thank you for starting this thread. I think this is a great idea for the team members to share how things have gone with them. I hope to see more responses, but it is great to see what is here now.

This is Day #3 for me. I am reacquainting myself with Spark and learning the new features. I am trying to start new habits and work on quiting some bad habits. I plan on really digging in tomorrow when things are more in routine. Weekends are really difficult.

I haven't been able to weigh in yet because I'm away from home on a house/pet sitting job and don't have access to my own scales. I had just moved into a new apartment the day before starting on SP, which made it quite difficult to focus on my new program. But now I'm all settled in and plan to put my all into it this week. I hope you all did well.
