The Greek goddess Aphrodite was known to be a fierce one. Born of the sea, she was strong and well versed in using her beauty and powers of persuasion. She loved love. Ask her many suitors. And spring, in general, was her time to shine. It's mating season for most flora and fauna after all.

She was quick to both punish those that angered her, but just as quick to reward those that pleased her.

Just ask Psyche.

Being a goddess of love and fertility, we associate her with Spring. As Venus, her Roman counterpart, we celebrate her sacred day, Veneralia, on April 1st. Aphros, or April, was sacred in her Greek form.

To honor this goddess take a moment to appreciate the open water. Smell the early spring flowers and watch the bees pollinate. Listen to the birds as they talk each other up during mating season. Plant a rose bush, or gift yourself with a lovely bouquet.

"What progress, you ask, have I made? I have begun to be a friend to myself." Hecato, Greek philosopher
