Lots of good ideas here! I was active the last 2 winters -- started my weight loss journey in Nov. 2009 and was working w/ trainer x2 and walking once or twice in between. Don't really remember last year's routine -- and I'm sure I'll make a new routine this year. I will walk on cool days, but I hate the wind (and that's what we've had for 3 days here -- thankfully it's NOT the norm for our winters). And I'll get back to the gym on a regular basis. I just really got addicted to my walks and am missing them after just 3 days of not being able to go out!!

Greetings,
It is a beautiful day here in Central Michigan. The sky's blue with a few puffy clouds. But its very windy and quite cool. Just getting us ready for winter, I guess.
One of the exercises I do in inclement weather is to walk w/Leslie Sansone (Walk away the pounds). She has a Tape - yes I'm still doing the VHS tapes!- that has 1 mile, 2 mile and 3 mile workouts on it. The 3 mile really has a lot of Aerobic-type exercise along w/the walking. When you get done you really feel like you've gotten a workout.
Hope this helps...
Becky

I do more cross training and strength training at the gym during inclement weather, but I still try and run outside once a week at least. I'm such a fair weather athlete--I hate being cold!

I love walking outside in cooler temps, but when it's really cold, snowy, icy, I bring it inside; treadmil, eliptical, exercise bike, weights; I just do it no matter what the season.

When I had a walking partner I would walk in every season, including light rain and snow. Your body actually acclimates itself to the weather. Now I walk on my treadmill and use my weights & other equip in the home. I also use fittv.

No longer do I rush the process; instead I embrace and enjoy it!

Have faith in God.

It's a good question! I much prefer going for walks or riding the tandem bicycle with my DH instead of exercising indoors, BUT there are days that I don't have the option to be outdoors like this morning when it was pouring down rain. So I haul out the exercise videos I have, but I have Ancient Videos - VHS tapes - because we don't have a DVD player. The only DVD player I have is the one in my computer and it's in my living room - where my DH works every day. So...I do what I can because I actually have reached the point that I enjoy exercise! Never thought I'd say that, but I do. Now...strength training is different - I don't enjoy pushups or crunches YET.

I really want to have Laura's attitude! emoticon sweet friend!

To be honest, I'm kind of dreading the winter season for the very reason you mentioned. I haven't exercised for a whole week now and I'm very disappointed with that. I keep TRYING to motivate myself to bring out the DVD's but they are NOT like getting outside. I did purchase some snow shoes but we don't have snow yet, so I can't use those. The weather has been horrific here! If it were snow, we'd be in a MAJOR blizzard and snowed in for a week. The winds are so intense that they woke me up @ 3:00 a.m. and I can't go back to sleep so that's why I'm typing! emoticon Anyway, back to the point, I do hope to get motivated for something other than walking. I LOVE being outside and find it MUCH more difficult to exercise inside.

How will weather changes affect our fitness routine? I've been walking almost daily since May -- but today was so windy/cold that I couldn't get myself out there. I chose instead to do strength exercises here at home -- and that was good. But I did miss the peace of my walk ...

Wonder what changes will you make as the weather changes? or do your workouts stay about the same year-round?
