I work full time and my husband stays at home. I found that getting up at 4 and hitting the Y before work is the only way I can get my work outs in. I felt guilty doing that when I first started but then realized that when I was leaving for work my family was just starting to wake up so I wasn't missing out on time with them. My early morning work outs have become my "me" time and my social time since I have a work out buddy. When its nice out I also try to take a walk at lunch time. In the summer I would pull my daughter in the Burley bike trailer.

I clean houses...so I was busy for 3 hours straight steady moving and climbing stairs. Also, when I went to pick up kids from school I parked my truck and walked.

I usually get up early for the day and fit in some of the 10-15 minute videos while my 3 boys are still in bed. Then in the afternoons when I get home from work we all go for a walk together (well they run the whole way). This way I get some one on one time but show them the importance of exercise as well. And remember even if you can only fit in 10 minutes a day... you are still doing more than the person sitting home on their couch watching tv :)

For me, exercise has to happen late at night. I'm not good in the morning, I work full-time, and my husband works opposite hours, so I'm usually on my own with the kids when we are home. One thing I would say is that up until a few weeks ago, I was a chronic overscheduler of my kids. When my daughter was 3, she was doing dance, skiing, soccer, swimming, preschool and more. It was OK for her, but looking back, I'm not sure she benefitted. The last few weeks I've been exhausted with working full time, Girl Scouts, soccer for both my daughter and son, and a bunch of other stuff. We haven't been getting home from school/daycare/work until 7 p.m. or later every night of the week. It would be OK if I thought everyone was happy, but I realized that all of us were exhausted. I'm not signing my son up for soccer the next season- I'm going to wait until he's 4. He'll be happier and I will be happier. So if I were voting, I would skip out on the dance or gymnastics for a bit, and give yourself a little bit of that time left. It will make you happier, and in turn, your daughter happier. :)

I am finding it difficult to workout for any real length of time which I am sure is hurting me.... But I try to hop on the elliptical for 15-20 min each morning and I am able to do about 10-15 min in the afternoons but not everyday.

It's early morning for me too, while the husband and my son sleep. Have you thought about getting a pedometer and trying to get your 10k steps in throughout the day? I read an article that said people who got 10k steps a day were healthier than those who just put in their 30 minutes of exercise daily (probably because you are forced to be moving throughout the day). That could be another thing to try - take walks in the evenings after dinner (or bike rides with a seat or trailer). Getting up at the crack of dawn has worked for me, but with 12 hr shifts, it might not work for you. emoticon

It's up at 6am or well lay in bed and wait for my exercise buddy to get here from work at 6:30 am. We are luckly if we do not get a visitor (Artemis, my 19 month old) in the middle of our workout. I also try and do a bit of exercise at nite if both the bois are sleeping. if not I can try but I usually need up with Artemis on my lap while trying to do my work out on the Ball.

With kiddos, it's EEEEAAAARRRLY morning (while they sleep) or nothing for me. Yeah, getting up early sucks. But being unhealthy sucks even more. We make time for the things that are important for us, in my opinion.

Try to incorporate little things like when making lunch or dinner dance around as you get ingredients out. I use my toddler as a weight some days and lift him up and down just to get a little arm exercise in as well as giving him the attention that he wants from me (He loves it). Just be creative you can turn an ordinary activity into something more! Good Luck emoticon

I just try to tell myself that ANYTHING is better than NOTHING. I may not be able to find a whole hour three times a week, but I can squeeze in two or three 10-15 minute quickies almost every day (and they say exercise is cummulative). My husband handling bathtime allows me to go out running (as I work toward a 5 K). Good luck with going back to school and enjoy those naps with your little sweety! I miss those!

I've focused on trying to add 10-15 minutes where ever I can. I have an exercise bike at home but have a hard time finding time to use it. By the time my son (4 years) is in bed, I'm ready for bed too. Do you have someone who can help? I've tried to transition bath-time over to my husband so I can exercise.

Hello I am new here. But the problem I have is fitting in excercise to my busy schedule. I work 3 nights of 12 hour shifts a week as a RN. I have a very active 20month old. On Mondays we go to story time at the zoo and spend at least 3 hours out there. On Tuesday we go to story time at the library and spend an hour or two there. On Wednesday we have mommy and me classes for 2 hours. I was thinking about adding gymnastics and dance but I am running out of time. But not only am I busy I like to nap with my little on who sleep anywhere from 2-3 hours a day because I am so tired and it boost my energy. On top of all this I plan on going back to school next month. I feel like I don't have enough time to excercise because I am always on the run and when I am not I tired and need to recoup. Any ideas?
