I've thought about doing nights, but the closest I'll get to that is an early shift. I do a 5-2 shift if they'd let me, probably even a 4-1 shift. I have an office job and you can get so much done in the wee hours before everyone else comes in, it's amazing. I hate it when all the other folks come in and ruin the peace and quiet. And then the phone starts ringing. But being an RN you don't have peace and quiet, I'll be it's go go go for you all the time.

I work 2 or 3 nights a week as a RN. My son goes to day care 2 days/wk. Any one out there work nights? I go all day with my 3 yr old, then work 12 hr night, come home and sleep while he is at daycare. Then usually get about 2 hours together before leaving again. I love my days' off with him but it make for some long tired days when I work. Making exercise a low priority those days. I try and just focus on the diet aspect when working. Except lately at work when we have time we try to do lunges down the hallway for exercise. I guess you have to mix it up somehow to get everything done.

I'm hoping to be able to go part time in the future, but right now there's no way to do that and with the economy the way it is I may not be able to do it for quite some time.

I work but was just able to start a part time schedule so I only work W, Th, F's now. It's fantastic! I spend four days with my boys and the daycare only gets them for 3.

You just reminded me of something I used to do that works. 15 minute intervals. I used to clean house in 15 minute intervals (I had an 8 year step son and we called them 15 minute room boogies because we danced while doing them.). I should start that up again. My sons love to dance. That should really get us going! Thank you so much! Amazing what we forget, eh?

Hmmmm, with such an early start to your day, I think early morning workouts are impossible, unless you are a natural at early, early mornings! You'd have to squeeze in a 20 minute workout at 4 or 4:30 AM!

Then, when you get home, I'm sure your boys take up most of your time, rightly so.

It is hard isn't it, trying to figure it all out. My experience is with time management. Start with small goals. Make a list and choose one project per day or week or month and just cross off the list as you go.

It's like losing weight, thinking of going from 0 pounds lost to 75 lbs lost all at once is overwhelming and the thought of it alone can paralyze a person. Setting small goals, like 2 lbs in one week is more attainable.

Projects around the house, rooms in the house, broken down in segments helps. For me, each time I get one little goal done, it inspires me to get the next one done.

Also, as I started moving my body regularly, I did get more energy which also helped me with doing more and not feeling so tired.

With all that said, I have 3 older kids (21, 17, 15) and now two younger ones too (3.5 and 5). My house went from pretty orderly to not so orderly with the little ones. It's nearly impossible to keep a perfectly tidy house with small children. I choose my battles. Some days I just take off and allow myself a break, even though it will look like a hurricane ran through my house! This part too shall pass. The older they get, the more practice they get with putting toys away, helping with laundry and what not.

As for an eating plan, that's the key, plan, plan and plan. One mom who had 7 kids, she would put lots of her food in zip lock baggies so her food would be ready to go and easily accessible at a moments notice. She just took the time on a day off to prepare, chop and store for the week.

Hope some of this helps!

I work 6-3, but I can pretty much move my hours back and forth as long as I'm at work for the core hours of 10-3 and I'm there for 8 hours. I've chosen the earlier shift because it gets me home earlier so I can spend more time with the kids (and the kitties).

What hours do you work? What a blessing to have a MIL to help out!

How many of you work? I have to work because we live in southern California (my ex pays for daycare), but I wish I could stay home with my two boys. If you do work, how do you mix it all up? Getting exercise, healthy eating, taking care of the kids, work and the house, etc. all in? I have the help of my MIL around the house (she lives with us part-time), but I never seem to be able to get to really cooking or to really taking care of the house or any of our house "projects".
