Whoa! My post got 8 responses - the first gal was incorrect - they limit is 330 lbs.:

"Wii Fit does have the restriction that you can't play if you're over 330 lbs...however there's a thread here about how to get around that, if you so wish. HOWEVER, by being over the maximum limit, you would void the warranty if you were to happen to break the Fit board, but Nintendo does usually make things to be able to withstand a LOT of "wear and tear".

So, the choice is yours."

I never even thought of it as having a weight limit. Even though you can't do the Wii Fit at 350 you can still do the Wii that comes with the golf and stuff and those will get you moving too. The boxing gave me the same workout that a Nordictrack did because I really got into it. If you do that then it's gonna work well. I noticed my nieces, when they played golf kind of just swung the handpiece lackadaisically whereas I tried to do it like a real golf club. Guess who won? I did! emoticon

I asked on the Wii team and someone responded:

The Wii Fit board has a weight restriction of 300 lbs. I don't know of any games that have additional restrictions.

I think the answer is yes - I'll check the Wii Spark Team - I think I read that it limits you on some of the aerobics exercises.

Will do some research!

Do either of you know the weight limit on the Wii Fit? For the board? Can a person who weighs 350 use it?

I've done the boxing and the golf on the Wii and liked both of them. I hope we can get ours this year. Last year they ran out of them at Christmas.

Glad you're here, Linda!

The Wii Fit is a ton o' fun! You do have to buy the Wii first - it comes with Wii Sports - tennis, boxing, bowling, baseball and golf - I love the tennis and bowling. My hubby bought it and I think they are $250.

I found the Wii Fit and it was $100. It starts out with a body test - measures your BMI and your weight and then has yoga, strength training, balance games (my favorite) and aerobics. It's amazing how fast you can get to 30 minutes playing on it! I highly recommend it! I found a Wii Spark Team this week! Lots of people chatting about it!

Thanks for all the encouragement Michelle and Ericka (my best friend is Erika!). I like this smaller team!

Good luck with your work outs and your eating!!!

I went to a restaurant called Noodles today (do you have those where you are?) - I normally order just mac 'n cheese and you'll be proud: I ordered the trio: had a much smaller portion of mac 'n cheese, a salad and grilled chicken. Step at a time, right?

Linda

My Dad's one of the skinny folks while my Mom, my sister, and I struggle with our weight. Sometimes I resent my parents because no one modeled the "right" way to eat for us, but I've been working through that resentment since it gets me nowhere. Skinny folks get me nowhere too, but my Mom and my sister also get me nowhere. Because my Mom and sister were bigger than me I was never allowed to mention my weight and it was never an "issue" until recently when I became bigger than them. Now I've lost that extra weight and am getting smaller again so we'll see what happens. I'm curious to see if I'll be allowed to have a weight problem if I get to be smaller than them again.

This is why I need a place like this.

Ya know, there are a lot of 'skinny' people out there that aren't 'fit' or heart healthy. There are also people who have heart attacks who are 'thin'.

One thing I've tried to keep in mind and remind other women is this: on those days or weeks that the scale hasn't moved, but we have been eating less, shooting for more healthier choices than not, AND moving more, our hearts, which are not seen, is improving (not to mention other internal body organs).

I too once was 'terrified' of getting diabetes, I am so addicted to sugar, I thought for sure it would be a DEATH sentence for me cuz I personally cannot stand SUGAR FREE items of any kind. But you know what, turns out, that wasn't the worse thing that could happen to me! It was freakin' FOOD allergies, namely CORN, Oh My Goodness!!!!! LOL So now, pure cane sugar I can have, it's CORN and it's by product (corn starch etc) that actually makes me sick! Life!
Ironic huh?

I agree, I've tried the timing thing with the hubby and it didn't work for me. Finding women online as support truly was the magic key for me, PLUS, choosing to make some short term sacrifices, something I wasn't willing to do in the past. I nearly gave up on myself, didn't think I'd ever be out of a size 20-22, that I was destined to have my very large butt for the rest of my life. NOT. Change is so possible. It really is. You can do this. If you believe you are worth it, and YOU ARE, then time to put yourself and your needs first. Yep. Time to be a little selfish. I wasn't even on my LIST of THINGS TO DO before. Now, I am at the top of my list. I have good days and not so good days, but the fact that I put myself on there is a huge step forward. If I don't take care of me, who is? No ONE!!! The look on my older girls faces when they look at me, reinforces that I did the right thing, taking care of me. I see the respect and pride in their eyes, that I did something to improve my life, to change. I showed them that anything is possible. Just like my mom modeled to me just within the past 4+ years with her taking control of her health.

So how do you like the Wii Fit? You have to have the Wii game (main controller) before you can use the Wii Fit right? Is it expensive?

My lil ones like to eat, specially if its junk food (all thanks to ME and my bad habits I taught them) so now I am limiting them to serving size portions only and for sweets, 1/2 serving size! They now say junk food is BAD for you but it doesn't stop them from wanting it! lol

Hang in there, if you are going to eat Mac n Cheese, do it, but eat 1/2 of what you want to eat and add a salad or some other veggie to go with. I have a friend here who has been using recipes where she adds pureed squash into just about everything and the kids don't even taste it so they are getting their veggies without them even knowing it!!

I also think kids eat the way God intended us to eat. Our body's really only need food as fuel. If you watch a kid eat, they eat when they are hungry and they stop when they are full. If you try and feed them chocolate EVERY day, all day for a week, they'd say NO, I want this instead. It when society starts dictacting to them when to eat, how much to eat (clean your plate, dont waste food) that their natural habits become unnatural.

I have a nephew who was really, really picky and all he would eat, most days, was peanut butter sandwich's. He is 20 now and no more worse for wear. He didn't die from his childhood eating habits. He grew up in spite of it! ;-)

I guess I share that to say, choose your battles, your son being a different size than he is may not be in the cards and that's ok. Especially if your hubby is a slim man. My ex was 5'10 and barely 160. I always felt like a 'big' woman and I was 10+ lbs lighter than him. My husband now is 6'1 and has always been 100+ lbs larger than me, at least til I hit my heaviest, then I was closing in on him! (I think that had a lil bit of influence on my gaining weight, I didn't 'feel' I was so big next to him, UGH!)

Anyhow, I think I got you beat on a loooong posting!

I have a skinny husband and I have loads of issues dealing with that. One - I hate that all the pictures make me look large - if I had a larger husband (like the majority of my ex-boyfriends) - I think I would be more motivated to keep fit. That sounds weird but I'm so over the thought that I'll ever be "thinner" than my husband that I've kinda given up and this is where my issue is: it is do-able to get under his weight. I've let myself go too long. PLUS with his metabolism he never has to exercise - he works hard and doesn't have a sedentary job so when he comes home, he wants to relax. So I've ocme to the realization that I need to do this for myself and keep him out of it and not depend on his support.

HOWEVER, we just bought a WiiFit and he's all into it and has been really supportive giving me time to work on it plus he's a bit competitive and can't stand if I have a record on one of the exercises. So I think this is our first step. He's admitted to me that he wants to exercise more so maybe there's hope but for now, I've really got to concentrate on myself. I'm freaked about getting diabetes and I don't have time to mess around anymore.

As for my kids - I'm trying to fatten up my youngest - he hasn't hit the charts yet (I think he's got daddy's metabolism. So of course his favorite is macaroni and cheese which is my downfall. My 3 year old has hit the phase of only liking desserts and every meal is becoming a struggle. He was so great with veggies and now he doesn't want to eat them. ACK!

OK - that was really long. Sorry.

I'm eating macrobiotically (or whole foods) and doing yoga and Callanetics for exericise. So far I've lost 30 pounds so I'm happy with that and I want to lose about 60 more. It's hard to find macro people locally so I've had to do a lot of reading to support myself. Lately my toughest challenges have been sugar cravings and finding the foods I'm wanting to try. That and I've been challenging myself to get online and log everything into Sparkpeople and make as many points per day the real way (by actualy reading the articles, etc.).

I'm glad I found this place.

I agree with this.....my bad habits (definitely influenced by family members) stayed bad habits because of this very reason.

The way I changed things for me was to find a plan I could follow, get plugged in with online support because for me online support was available 24/7 AND getting an exercise buddy who I met with 5 days a week to walk. All of those things put together helped me wade out of the bad habits and change happened. My hubby did not join me in this, I did it without him.

You would have to know me, like he does, to know how inconsistent of a person I usually am. I never stick with anything long enough. I would start stop start stop. This time, the above combo made all the difference. I did this before I found Spark.

I followed the Slim Fast plan and used their web site (before it went down back in April)

For me, the SF plan helped me outline my day fairly easy and trained me to eat regularly, in smaller portions as well as nutritiously. When I came to Spark, it just enhanced what I had already been doing.

What plan are you following for yourself? Is it working? What are your struggles? Successes?

Your friend

That's the title of my doctor's speech that he made in a class that I took based on the book Habits Not Diets (which is quite good). I realized that what he really meant was am I letting my family make me fat by going to them for support when they're not ready to support me and I was wondering how many of you have the same issue. I mean toddlers aren't exactly support team members (although they work really well when they say things like Mommy, don't eat it all!). And I was wondering how others have dealt with it. I came back here after finding that I wasn't getting enough through a good friend via email.
