Thanks for all the encouragement!! I was checking out the website today and I saw a picture of a lady who looks a lot like me! That's when I decided to do it. So I signed up. I have 108 days to train. I am going to come up with a training schedule. I'm very excited. I have two friends that are running it but I'm a little afraid to tell them. Although I'm sure they would be supportive.

I was the fattest person to walk the Mickelson 1/2 Marathon in Deadwood, SD a few years ago.
I even made a joke while I was pinning my number to my chest that I needed to carry an AED with me while I trekked through.

Here's the thing - I trained for it and I was in shape for it. I followed the Couch Potato to 5k training schedule at first. A) Signing up for the event with my family made me accountable for my training. B) It was a heck of a lot of fun.

My sister has since lost a ton of weight (Way to go Ashly!) and has since run several marathons. I'm not a runner by any stretch of the imagination - but if it's a goal of yours, I say sign up and don't look back!

Good Luck!

Zandraak - If this is something you want to do......do it!

Begin your training slowly and see how the ankle does and work from there. I would be more anxious over your ankle than your physical size. Don't let you size, weight etc. stop you from doing something in life, enough people hem us in, don't do it to yourself!!! LOL

Let us know how it goes. I think a lot of people are interested in how your training will go. Post on food and the mileage you are doing.

Watching salt intake also trying not to buy foods that have high fructose corn syrup, sugar, rice syrup, corn syrup, fructose, sucrose etc. in the first three ingredients.

No foods that have more than 3 ingredients that I can not pronounce.

If an item has more than 10 ingredients I put it on the Do Not Buy List as it is too processed.

take the negative out so what if you were the heaviest persn there you are inspiring others in the same large body to get out and move. You are a role model take the negative out, you are a beautiful person who is to embark on a great journey and oh what a feeling when you completed. Go do it!! I'm hoping to do one by October :)

How inspiring! If you think you can and say you can then you CAN!! I think people at these events will not care one way or the other about your size. Everyone competing is there for personal reasons and if anything will cheer you on!

Good luck

I just found out today that I don't have to have ankle surgery now that over the past few months the pins in my ankle have stopped hurting. Now that I have a solid four months to train I am considering signing up to walk a half marathon in mid-June. Am I totally insane for wanting to do this? And will it feel really strange to potentially be the fattest person there?
