Water and bananas as others have said.

Also, I take calcium before bed.

I get a lot of leg cramps at night. I've been getting them since I was 15 (I'm 29 now). I've done some research on it and apparently, some people just get spontaneous cramps. Some other articles say it's common when you diet. It's the worst for me when I low carb, but I only get the cramps at night.

My mom used to tell me to drink a glass of water and lick a little salt when I'd get a cramp. Apparently, when you're dehyrated, your salt levels have also been depleted, which cause the cramp. It used to work for me...

Doing what I have to do so that I can do what I want to do!

Are you drinking plenty of water? My Dr. told me sometimes if you're not hydrated enough that can cause them. Also, I usually don't do much stretching before working out, but save it for after. I do light cardio, like walking in place to warm and some dynamic stretching (stretching with movement...like shoulder rolls and stuff like that)

So sorry you're getting leg cramps. I've had them before and they totally suck!

Let us know how you're doing and if you tried the banana and water.

Try more water. Also, if I have really tight legs before getting in bed I stretch and take an aspirin. That usually takes care of the cramps.

I agree with Yvonne I've stopped getting them since I've been eating a banana every day. When I did get them the quickest thing I could do to get rid of them was either flex my foot up and down or turn on to my back bend my knee and put my foot flat on the bed.

I use to get leg cramps at night. I was told to drink more water so I did - before I go to bed I drink a big glass of water. No more cramps but I do get up around 3am to use the bathroom. Lucky for me I can fall back asleep easily.

Try some water - nothing ridiculous - just a glass.

I'm on medication that really gives me leg cramps at night. The only thing I know that really works is stretching. I do a few leg stretches before bed and then I sleep great, if I don't I'm in pain until I get out of bed and stretch them out. By that point I find it's really hard to stretch them out. I've also heard that charlie horses sometimes just need to be walked out. Hope this helps. All the best.

Does anyone have a problem with their legs giving them charlie horse? I had a bad night last night we I had a spasm in my muscle from my knee to my hip, and then woke up 3 times durning the night with them. I took potastium pills, but it seemed like it didn't help. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? I stretch before I go on my treadmill or do any kind of exercise.
