I have a love/hate relationship with shopping for clothes. I love shopping and how the clothes look but I often hate how they look on me and how much they cost... :-)

Anyway, some of my "favorite" (in quotes because if I wasn't fat, I wouldn't shop here) places to shop are:

Lane Bryant (they recently started a junior line - Loop 18, pretty trendy)

Swakdesigns (www.swakdesigns.com)

Old Navy Online (since they took the plus out of the store - jerks! I even sent a letter to to them about how discriminatory I think it is. I should stop shopping there in protest!)

Ashley Stewart (www.ashleystewart.com)

I shop anywhere there is plus section. Make sure to sign up for emails so you can get coupons and alerts for the sales. That's the only time I shop. I NEVER pay full price.

Also for you online shoppers, check out ebates.com. You can get cash back and coupons for your purchases.

Doing what I have to do so that I can do what I want to do!

I know you may hate hearing this but I can finally go into a department store and not go into the plus size section. We went to Kohl's today and I was able to fit into some mediums and larges. WooHoo for me!
I was even able to buy a bra there. I usually have to go to Macy's to get one that will fit properly.

Jessica - I like Torrid too. It's like some stores the minute you get above a certain size it's all florals or electric lime green! LOL!

Karen - I've never tried Crocs. I've hear they're pretty comfortable?

I had no idea Old Navy had plus sizes! Thanks for the info.

I buy my jeans at Lane Bryant (I like their true fit jeans - I get the 'blue' style) and I tend to get tops at Wal-Mart. I get my work-out clothes at www.onestopplus.com and haven't had any complaints. I got bike shorts there and running shorts. My local running shop had running tops in 3x so I got some there.

I really like Avenue. I got some clothes there last spring (09) and all of them are baggy on me now. I am going to try to hold out and just get a few things for fall to save money. I was wearing a 28 jeans and now can fit into a 26. The 26 capris I have are too big now.

I used to like Lane Bryant for my bras and stuff, but the last time I got underwear and bras there, they didn't hold up long and their stuff is so expensive.

Here are some of my top shoe choices: for workout/running shoes --- BROOKS! I like the Brooks Glyerin myself. I also wear Crocs and Keen. Keen is an awesome shoe for everyday wear. For the ladies who need heels: Sofft. Really good support with a nice heel. For a good boot - as in work outside boot: Ariat Fatbaby boots rock! I run a farm so these are a must for me! I have thick ankles and these fit me. This is the only brand that I have been able to find that fits me.

Clothes suggestions are awesome - thanks!!

Wow, there are a lot more options out there than I thought! I always stuck with Lane Bryant and Old Navy. I brought a dress from Roaman's once-it was a disaster but now I can't get them to quit sending me the catalog. Thaks for the ideas everyone!

Hi, I work as a Compliance Manager, so I always have to have a few power suits on hand. My favorite suits are the Allison Woods line and you can get them at Roamans and even if they're not pictured the suits usually come in choices of gray, black or navy. Hope this helps http://www.roamans.com/Plus-Size-Suits.asp

I mean clothes in much duller colors and much more conservative styles than Avenue. I'm talking basically nothing but navy blue and black pantsuits. Where do I find those in larger sizes? I'm trying to get down to a 24W now, which seems to be the magic number, and then I can find a few things. Is that my best bet?

NOW YOUR TALKING MY LANGUAGE! I shop everywhere there is a plus size line...i.e. Macy's, Nordstrom's. I love Torrid. Lane Bryant makes some cute clothes but I never like the fit. I have really gotten in the habit of looking at the types of clothes that I WANT to wear instead of looking at clothes that I HAVE TO WEAR due to my size limitations. It motivates me to keep pushing harder and harder to get the weight off!

I've been looking for decent business suits in my size and really can't find anything. All the plus size stores around carry items that are too casual for conservative business attire. Any pointers in this area would be great indeed!

for work out clothes I've never been dissapointed with junonia. Work clothes, etc, I hit catherines, avenue, making it big and sometimes junonia. Shoes are hard to find since I wear a 13 WW, but I order 3 or 4 pair from Amazon and ship back what I don't like or that don't fit. I hate shopping, always have. I seriously need a shopping consultant...some day.

I have 2 main go-to stores: Lane Bryant and Old Navy.
Also, alight.com has some really cute unique clothes. I've bought from there once or twice

A few things I don't like about Lane Bryant: they're a bit pricey and they use too many synthetic materials (polyester-blech)

A few things I don't like about Old Navy: you have to buy online, the sizing is all over the board, and most of the clothes are cheaply put-together

Buuut, as much as I complain, they do offer some fashion forward clothing that helps me feel better about stepping out. :)

I shop at avenue.com, sihouettes.com, catherines.com, and makingitbig.com

I really wish avenue would go back to previous styles. My sausage arms do not belong in a burnout shirt. The sizes also seem to be running small lately. Anyone else noticing this?

I shop at Woman Within and Old Navy online, and Walmart when I need something simple (work out shirt, etc).

LaRae, I purchase a good bit of my workout clothes from Old Navy online. I've purchased sports bras and tanks there and they've been really good. I've also heard good things about Junonia for workout wear.

I would like to put a new spin on the question. Where do you shop for workout clothes? I mean good clothes not cotton because cotton is not good for workouts it causes chaffing and skin irritations.

I am in desperate need of new workout clothes and have no idea of where to get good clothes for plus size women.

I shop mostly from Fashion Bug and Walmart. Fashion Bug is my favorite but they can be a little pricey and their sizes seem to change. I like Walmart. I normally have good luck with finding my 2-3x clothes there, but I've also noticed some things go up to 4x, and it's cheap. I have my best luck there in the early spring time because I find their spring/summer lines much more in style than the fall/winter. I've gotten a few things from Old Navy online and have never been disappointed.

I get almost all of my work clothes from QVC.com, they are a bit pricey, but the quality is good and once I got my size right, everything I have ordered in that size fits, no matter which designer it is coming from. Additionally, I have found things that I really like and feel good in, which I have found to be difficult to do at most clothing stores.

Wow..sounds like you ladies have lots of choices! Here in Nova Scotia, choices are somewhat limited. We have Penningtons, Additional and Reitmans (they are all sister stores) Cotton Ginny and Walmart for plus sizes, selection is Ok, but all plus size gals seem to pick the same things. Old Navy plus looks NICE..Not sure if its available here.

I love shoes..New Balance and Berks...and just shoes in general.

I recently had a good bit of luck at Penney's, so you might try there. I was able to find jeans, two wonderful shirts, and a beautiful dress, all for $100. I have an especially hard time shopping because most clothes my "size" are meant for someone much taller!

I buy clothes online at Jessica London, Lane Bryant, Roman's. I really think their quality has gone down hill though. I also buy from Just My Size and shoes from Famous Footwear. I also wear men's New Balance stlye 609's. I always buy them online during the 1/2 price sale at FF. I will have to look at a few of the stores you all mentioned that I haven't heard of before. Thanks for this post.

I shop mostly at Catherines. If I go online it is usually Lane Bryant or Roamans. Once in a while Just My Size or Junonia. For shoes I use New Balance, Foot Smart and Birki's. You all have names stores I never heard of. I think I will check them out!

When I've actually got money to shop, my new favorite store is Old Navy Online. Their *new* Plus-size line is actually true to size ... actually runs about 3-4" bigger than Lane Bryant actually.

I can't fit into anything at Lane Bryant anymore (at least the retail stores) and they usually go up to a 26/28. I ordered a pair of 30 jeans for Old Navy a few months ago and they were actually a little big. I highly suggest them if you're able to fit into a 30/32. Just take measurements and check their sizing charts before you order - you may be surprised what size you have to get.

Otherwise, the only other store I've shopped in lately is Avenue and it's really hit or miss there. Some of their clothes fit me, some don't. Like the shorts I'm wearing now are a 28, yet when I bought them I couldn't fit into some of their 28's and even 30's.

As my size goes down I'll start shopping at Wal-Mart and Target again (they go up to 30 in some things...).

As far as shoes, I guess I'm lucky in that I fit in a standard size 10. I do need to invest in some good running shoes, but finances won't allow that just yet.

I am glad you posted this. I have a question for y'all....

Can anyone give me some suggestions on running shoes?

For me they work better & last longer than walking shoes. I have to wear a mans extra wide (groan) & have had great luck with new balance. Sadly they quit making the ones I have & haven't been able to find anything that feels right. I am trying to get a pair of Z-Coils but haven't gotten there yet.

You know, we all have really good days & really bad days. When you smush them all together IT'S ALL GOOD.

The pain passes but the beauty remains.

I order all my clothes at www.pluswoman.com/ as they are the only ones I've found where they are large enough and I like the clothes.

For shoes, I order from www.footsmart.com/default.aspx . Again, mostly because they are about the only place I've found shoes that fit.

I usually buy at Fashion Bug. I tried Woman Within Once, but I ordered all the wrong sizes . . . things were too big on me. I may have to try again. I like Catherine's but they are a bit expensive. I really need to get new clothes, and I've been putting it off.

I was wondering where do you shop for clothes? shoes?

I shop at Avenue, sometimes Catherines. Fave online website is www.kiyonnas.com. For athletic clothes, I buy Danskin or Junonia stuff. You can find local stores that sell Danskin, up to 4X. For shoes... I wear mostly crocs. I have terribly wide feet. Athletic shoes, I wear New Balance men's EE wide running shoes. EEK I know.

Actually, who are you not to be? We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same." ~ Marianne Williamson
