Before the holidays, I probably ate out 3-4 times a week. Now, maybe once a week, and I plan where I am going to go and what I will get. Aside from watching my calories, I am also on a budget. If I spend a good amount of money on groceries (healthier), I don't have much wiggle room for dining out, and I hate to throw out food that should have been cooked at home.

December was a little rough, lots of parties, etc, but I am back on track. And even in the last month, I did turn down a couple of friends who wanted to eat out, which I never did before. Guess what? They are still my friends. Some of my friends will want to eat out even if I tell them I am trying to watch my weight, but almost everyone understands if you tell them "I can't afford it until payday." emoticon

Usually two times - around the holidays perhaps three and while my son is visiting from college - four. If you count picking up food to go. Otherwise actually eating in a restaurant - one.

I very rarely eat out so when I do it's a total treat and I focus mainly on not overeating or getting something smothered in fats.

We used to eat out a lot. But we went on a strict budget when I decided to quit my job while going to school ... now we eat out 1x a month unless someone else is paying for it. And most of the time, I'm finding that I'm not even eating out ... I'm swinging through a drive through somewhere to pick the kids up something as a "treat" and taking it home, so that I can still eat food that's not going to shock my calorie counter.

This month is a little harder on my calorie counter b/c of friends asking me to accompany them as their guest to office Christmas parties and dinners. But I'm making the best choices that I can at the time.

I used to eat out several times a week, mostly for dinner. A lot of late nights at work, didn't feel like cooking, or...I was going out to dinner to catch up with friends. I've been counting calories for just about 3 weeks now, and I have eaten out a few times. I also went on a strict budget in November, so it makes financial sense for me to bring lunch and make dinner. Earlier this week a friend asked me out to dinner and I turned her down. I couldn't spare the cash or the calories. I have been meal planning, and so most of my money goes on groceries, and my friends seem to understand this. I think I ate out twice over the past 2 weeks, and both times were at Panera, where the calories are low (and listed on the menu) and the food is delicious. It takes a little more planning, but it is do-able! Hopefully at the end of my journey, I'll be thinner AND richer! ; )

I saw an ad in Women's world, a weekly news paper, a couple of years ago and ripped out the page to keep on the fridge till I had time to check it out. I was blown away by the sheer number of folks involved and all the choices. I mostly love not having to apologize for who I am. I find that the people on here are very smart, hard working, creative, dedicated, amazing people and I love being here!!!

Most days.

It takes too long to do everything I'd like to, so I have to skip a lot unless I have at least 30 or 40 minutes available.

I pull up sparkpeople first thing every morning and leave it up on my computer ... checking in several times a day. I'd feel lost without it.

I log stuff as soon as possible, so that I don't forget!

When I skip workouts, I usually have a great excuse about not having enough time....But when I take the time to jump on the treadmill or to do some yoga or strength training, I find that I easily make up that time with the extra energy I have.

In my journey towards a healthier and thinner me I've noticed that everything I tries works....for a few weeks. Then I have to change everything up again.

It's frustrating. I'd cycle through all of the "diet" trends. Log my food and exercise like a madwoman. And eventually, the weight would start creeping back on despite my best efforts. Then I'd start asking myself why I was depriving myself of sweets and chocolate if dieting wasn't going to work anyway??!!??!! So I'd slide and start eating sh*tty again for a week or two and gain back some of the weight that I had struggled to lose.

I have to concentrate really hard on stopping that cycle, because it's dangerous. It's a slippery slope to nowhere.

I try to limit the number of times I eat out and especially the number of times that I eat at relative's house. Yes the free food is great -- but they cook with WAY more sodium than I do ... and sodium is a weight loss killer for me. I have to watch it like a hawk. High sodium = weight gain. Yes, I know it's probably all water from the high sodium water retention -- but I'd rather not see the scale go up for any reason.

Skipping exercise for one day, not much effect. A few days, I get grouchy and depressed. The longer I go, the more pain I feel in my knee and the more pain I feel, the shorter I become with everyone. So me exercising is a benefit for all :D

My sleep patterns get screwy and I get cranky (but not necessarily in that order - although I did have a boss one time realize that I'd missed my lunchtime workout two days in a row, and order me to the gym at 3 in the afternoon! We'd been working long nights for several weeks, so it wasn't like sending me home early or anything - I was back in the office before 5, but feeing much more in control!)

What effect does skipping exercise have on you?

I have more pain from the arthritis - stiff, sore knees and hips - as well as feeling more tired. I also feel more symtoms of depression - less desire to do things.

I do both. I gave up the candy- or most of it already so I just add more exercise to my weekly routines.

Going to stop eating candy and grab fruit instead. I was doing soo good until this Halloween thing came along. I definetely need to put my best foot forward and exercise alot. Thanksgiving is not going to help. My focus has to change.

Last Holiday season was the only time I was on this journey...and Since I started it a few days after Thanksgiving I focused on both food and exercises. This year I am having a bit of trouble with food so maybe I should do more exercise & try to watch my food more. They usually go hand and hand...cause if I exercise I feel guilty when I eat something bad.

Holidays are hard for me as I love anything sweet plus I could eat stuffing everyday. The weather doesn't help either with regards to walking. It rains alot here in BC and I don't like getting wet unless it is in the shower. lol

If I don't let my exercise slack, I can do fine with the food. Otherwise, I have to be twice as vigilant about my eating.

No regrets, just lessons learned . . .

I need to focus and quit eating Halloween candy. This is ridiculous and not sure why I am craving it so much. I am normally great this time of year. I need to rethink exactly what I am doing. I need this blogs!! Their great.

Now that I'm making a more serious effort here, I'm doing both. I LOVE exercise and when I'm feeling not so great, I know it's cause I've been neglecting my exercise. I'm also more mindful of what I'm eating. I'm not perfect, but when I sit and think, I'll take healthy over garbage :) and that makes me feel pretty good :)

I have to watch what I eat. I have trouble squeezing exercise in as it is, and finding time for extra makes it really hard.

Do you do extra exercise at the holidays or try to watch your food intake closely?

I watch my food more but also seem to get a more regular exercise routine then to keep me on track. Going to the gym and using the sauna actually helps me with the allergies and sinus problems I normally get at this time of year so I stay healthier and enjoy the season more.

I like the leaf colors (but not raking!). I like the crisp air, soups and the preparation for the holidays.

What is a plateau, anyway?
When you are not seeing results in weight lost, inches dropped, or improved fitness for 4-6 weeks, you have probably hit a plateau.

I love everything about Autumn...the colors, the foods, the crisp clean air. Cool nights and warm weather during the day, and last but not least, the beginning of the holidays.

Seeing grass after the Minnesota winters. Listening to the birds and watching the flowers come up. More affordable fresh veggies and fruit

Hope this is right. I am new, ha. Last week I ate out three times. This week so far once for my birthday. I never used to eat out and I enjoy it, even alone. It is my time.

Spring is a perfect time of the year. No more big sweaters, gloves, scarves or winter boots. I love watching the little kids play with their little white legs with their new shorts on. Oh, and of course LONGER DAYS!! Could do without the rain though.
