Trish maybe she should think about track or swimming. Tennis is pretty easy on your head. But I do hope she gets to go back to playing the sports she really loves this fall. Say hey to her from me and give both your kids extra big hugs today.

I have the day off and my "kid" just wondered through and let me know how I am buying the wrong kind groceries. Sigh!!!! Anyone interested in adopting him? LOL!!!!!!

Hi all!

Happy June! Got in almost 3 miles yesterday morning... I LOVE running on summer days really early. It's so peaceful!

I spent the past weekend getting my back deck ready for summer - it's so wonderful. I can tell I'm going to be spending a ton of time out here!

Hey all,

Had a great workout with my trainer today. Heading down to the coast for the 1/2 marathon in a couple of days, so all is good in my world.

Missy had a visit with the Psychologist today regarding her repeat concussions...he said she needs to stay out of sport until September, then if she gets hit again, needs to revisit if she should be playing potential contact sports...oh boy, she is not happy about that. All of the sports she plays carry a potential of contact to the head...so major things may need to change.

Hope you are all doing well...

Hugs,
trish

Hey everyone,
Had a fun weekend. Missy's b'day party was Saturday - Sunday at my sis's place. It rained a lot, but all was good. 6 girls hanging out swimming, going for walks, marshmallows and hotdogs on the fire...yeah, they had fun!

Tonight we are all tired, heading to Whistler on Thursday, so need to get organized soonish:-)

Will try to read back tomorrow!

Hugs,
Trish

I followed a runner today for 5 kms. She had a wedgie and poor running form. I don't know which was the cause and which was the affect. She spent most of the run trying to correct the wedgie.
On the plus side, I have two new medals.

Rainy start to the weekend here. Probably good because I found out the other day I have less than two weeks to finish a quit for a son's graduation. Now at least there is no tempting weather to pull me away. LOL!!!

Aw, Nera, where is your sense of adventure? Bedazzled pockets are, well, maybe I agree with you:)
So, I was feeling better earlier this week but not anymore. My sore throat is back and the cough is just lingering. Sigh.
Happy Friday all

I tried to buy some blue jean capri's for work that actually fit. Really either they were expensive(I won't pay $60 for capri;s) or just the ugliest thing on earth. Any designer who bedazzles the back pockets of pants should be taken out and beaten with a rubber hose. LOL!!!

Neraus: There are days where I decide where to walk/hike based on bathroom availability. It is something I need about every two hours or so, and can limit my hiking distances.

Cstream: Glad you are feeling better, but hope it is much better soon.

Trish: Okay, I had to look up what in the heck Grouse Grind was. Interesting. That is a lot of stairs.. but to do it for time? "A Grind Timer Card (previously, the Summit Seeker Card), containing a radio frequency chip, from Grouse Mountain is a great way to track your training. Swipe your card at the Grind Timer at the base of the Grouse Grind, and again at the top of the trail, and your name and time will appear on the monitor at Alpine Guest Services in the Peak Chalet. Your results may also be printed for you at Alpine Guest Services, or you can check them online.Ē Not something I would be doing. With my exercise indused asthma, either inhaler dose before I start or somewhere in the middle!

Hi all!

Today's run was alright... left hip is acting wonky. I need more stretching and more hip-strengthening exercises.

Tonight's schedule includes some Slow Flow Yoga. We tend to hold our stretches for a really long time there - just what I need!

Went for a short walk to stretch out some muscles after our hike this weekend. Was very humid and still. Then good old human nature took over and I need to hike home in a hurry. Good thing we were not very far away. So weird that walking makes some processes speed up so to speak. LOL!!!!

Ohmy!! Got unsubscribed again:-(

This weekend we are down in Vancouver for Monkey's baseball tourney. His team had a tough time, but ended on a positive note. I managed to do the Grouse Grind on Thursday - 277 flights of stairs in less than 2 hours...fun stuff:-) Tomorrow we are heading back home, and the rest of the week should be busy. Had one wisdom tooth taken out last Wednesday, and get another removed this Wednesday...good times!!

Very cool that our Canadian boys won the World Juniors over the weekend, and the West Kelowna Warriors won the RBC Cup (Canadian Junior hockey league champs)...nicely done boys!

Hope you are all doing amazing!

Hugs,
Trish

My problem is I have a fear of heights and hear in San Jose, we are surrounded by foothills, which have some nice hiking places, but I am a bit afraid. It isn't always how high, it is more the feeling of how high, if that makes sense. If I am in a place where I am not near the edge, and have a forest like look, where you aren't going to fall, then I am okay, but introduce some switchbacks, or an overlook and I get afraid. I also hate to come down a steep incline. I can climb an incline that I can't imagine trying to come down. I almost want to slide on my butt when I come down. I hate that my fear of heights is so uncontrollable. Even delivering groceries with instacart, freaks me out on some heights. I refuse to do above 700 feet up anymore, though.

Our hike went well but it was a lot of up hill. I don't have it in me at this time to do long steep inclines. Problem was to get to the car and go home had to go up one steep set of stairs. I made it but I had to stop about three times. I just need to get out and get back in to shape so I can enjoy going on hikes with my family.

Oh my goodness, snow??!?

I am headed to Soothing Sundays Yoga in a bit. It's a little hippy-dippy, but so am I, so I really love it. It's an amazing transition between the weekend and the work week. Did a lot of planning for the week - meals, workouts, schedule... phew!

Make it a good one, Rookies!

Hi all!
I ran today, after taking some time off to deal with a (self-diagnosed) sinus infection. I like to think I embody the law of physics that states "an object at rest tends to stay at rest." I have SUCH a hard time moving from a comfortable spot, or any spot, for that matter. Once I take that first step, though, I'm pretty good about doing what I need to do.

It's going to be a rainy, dreary day - a good chance to get cleaned up around the house.

Graduations are always a fun time and a scary time. Life as the child knows it, will never be the same. Some do well with change, others not so much. My DD does not do well with change. When she graduated college, we talked about her plan for almost 6 months before I thought she was ready to move on. They all get there in the end, it just takes more time for some:). But, congratulations to your son! High school grad and college grad:)
Me, I was doing OK. Getting in a run 2-3 times a week, working on consistantcy then, this nasty respiratory virus came along. Now, all I want to do is sleep! My throat feels like I swallowed glass. Sheesh.

We were thrilled to find out the information my son had received that this would take 3+ hours was wrong. It took an hour and 10 minutes and the majority of that was reading the names. I am so proud that he graduated. He faced some hurdles doing it and while he isn't quite as academically inclined as I was in college he stuck with and made it through. He says it is scary now to be all done with school. I said it is scary but exciting and the trick is to harness the scary so you can find all the exciting possibilities that are out there. I hope he gets a job in this area I can't imagine not seeing him all the time but I know he has to go where he needs to for a job. And unlike some kids he is way ready to move out of your house. I told him get the full time job save up a few months then move. But I think as soon as he gets a full time job even if it is in this area he will move out right away.

Maybe just take him out to dinner? That is what my son wants to do for his college graduation. It is going to be a long day and mostly boring day listening to speeches just so for 30 seconds I get to hear my son's name called and watch him cross the stage. I can't wait.

Been okay around here. My son graduates from high school in just under two weeks. So far, he doesn't want to get together with friends or celebrate in any way. So what do I as a parent do, if I want to celebrate it a little?

Son has been doing a lot of end of school orchestra concerts, etc. He conducted the freshman orchestra for two songs during their concert. Nice to watch, including his reaction to a ringing cell phone as he was just about to start the piece.

He has chosen Michigan State University for his college.

Happy birthday Missy. I hope things are going well Trish for you and the kids.

My son graduates from college this weekend. He has never shared his grades with us but since he has always been happy just getting by I am pretty sure we are in the C range. But after all the ups and downs and issues just getting him graduated is all I am asking for.

Speaking of being surprised by what your paid my hubby's job has very cheap health insurance so for the first time in years he is carrying our insurance coverage. So my check is about $400 higher since the premium isn't being taken out. I was like wow instant raise and what are we going to do with all this extra cash? Sadly we are still trying to unbury from when the hubby was unemployed so not really extra. But I have been promised that when the PBR comes back from summer break we can get the cable package that allows me to watch it on tv instead of waiting to see it on the streaming.. So yeah for me. LOL!!!!

Hey gang, still here just snowed under with work and kids keeping me hopping. I have ONE day off for a 10 day stretch and what do I do? Get sick. Of course. Really bad somethin' somethin' in my lungs. Feels like they've been sandpapered. Ugh. No patient care tomorrow but work all the same (so I can't call in sick). Then a night, an evening, a day, three nights, an evening, a day and a night. One day off and back to it! Other than getting sick, so far so good. It's a white-knuckle ride some days, but I'm so happy to FINALLY be doing what I've wanted to do, and I'm a *little* shocked at how much they're paying me. Never had a union job before sooooo.... tee hee!

Started working in the veggie garden a little today. I have a new plot (small by my standards) at the university (where I used to be garden coordinator) that I'd like to get planted tomorrow evening - still a bit to clear though. Fingers crossed. It's good to get some other exercise thought. Being on my feet 12 hours a day is keeping my running shoes on the shelf right now, so for now work is my cardio and the garden is my ST.

Hope you're all having a wonderful week.

Hi team. Penny, so sorry about Kixx:(. It is hard to lose our furry babies.

I have been getting in some running. It's getting hot so I have to go before 7am or after 7pm. It is very different running in the near dark! At least there are sidewalks so I don't have to run in the street. Phew

Lunch with my mom went okay. I just don't know what to talk to her about. There are so many subjects that for me at least are off limits. She is a big Hilary Clinton fan and I on the other hand can't stand her. She made one Trump joke but the look on my face must have clued her in that wasn't a good subject to discuss. I am not a big fan of Trump either but while my Mom thinks Hilary will save us all my thoughts on this election are which poison do I chose from. If ever the phrase between a rock and a hard place applied this election would be it. But political rant aside happy mother's day everyone. I am sipping tea and eating a pastry. Son is getting ready for work and hubby is snoring from what I can tell Mother day festivities are all ready over for the day. But I can't really complain because you know karma or what you put out is what you get back.

Good morning all!

Skir - I did the Flying Pig HM a few years ago - it was so fun! I'm looking for some summer races, too. As much as I complain about races, they definitely keep me motivated to get out there and run, even when I'd rather be snoozing.

Hubs and I are headed out of the city today to visit our families. He's going to hang out with his parents for the afternoon and I'm going to work on planning a baby shower with my mom. My brother and SIL are due in September!

Penny: Your cat too? Sad. Pets are wonderful things, and even though allowing them to die humanely is the right thing to do, we donít forget them. Nothing can replace them in our lives, not even new pets. Each pet is different.

I wondered if someone from the group had done the flying pig. Must be a popular one, as I seem to run into a number of people who ran it this year.

Neraus: Meeting up with my family is a gamble too. Went to Georgia for the funeral of my grandmother this past weekend and well, my mom behaved a tad better than usual. She did not make too many snide remarks that tend to insult or cause guilt. For her, this is an improvement.

Running wise... I am possibly signing up for a 10K in early June. Currently doing a Thursday run walk intervals of about 5.92 miles (just due to size of course I mapped) in about 66 to 68 minutes. Will keep doing that each Thursday, but want to add in a day running each weekend Saturday or Sunday. Today I did some shorter runnings spurts, of a short .26 mile lap and walk one, run one, but the last half of the run lap trying to run faster. I would think any amount of running in addition to Thursday would help. I have done a 34 minuteish 5K, so wonder if a 70 minute 10K would be about right. Want to work back up to a half marathon so I can run walk that, rather than walk one and see how fast I can go.

Trish you and the kids will get there but it all takes time and it isn't a linear journey. Big hugs to you and the kids.

I am going down to have lunch with my mom tomorrow for early Mother's day lunch. Meeting up with my family is always a gamble but with just the two of us it should be okay.

Good morning Rookies!

Quick check-in before yoga - I'm going to try out morning yoga to see if it fits in with my schedule. Fingers crossed!

Hey everyone!

I have been working hard at the gym, and have also been working through things with the kidlets. Not feeling completely successful in either yet, but we will get there.

Hugs and love,
Trish

Carrie, congratulations on the 10 miler. That's awesome. Mojo returned!

Doris, so sorry about your kitty cat, you too Penny. That's very tough indeed.

Trish, oh big hugs. I'm thinking a lot about you guys.

Nera, it's true, a lot of the language in big, official communications is geared to include exceptions and not just the majority. I had to change the language on all our forms, templates and communication at the daycare I used to manage when a guardian pointed out to me that we had grandparents, foster parents, as well as custodial family and non-family caregivers just in our tiny community nursery school. She told me that the 'parent/child' language just constantly emphasized that their family was 'abnormal' and she found that painful. So, I get it.

Yeah, work has been good. Busy, oh my goodness! I can't even BEGIN to tell you a single thing about it! lol!!! It's rough having a job that you can't talk about sometimes :o) Just think of the wackiest, craziest, most bizarre things you can imagine happening in a stroke unit and you might be nearly there. Heck of a steep learning curve, but, so far so good. All are well cared-for and safe at the end of the day so... emoticon emoticon

Hi all!

Penny - I LOVED Flying Pig. I hope we can do that again soon - seems like a lot of us Rookies are getting some mojo back...?

I did a SHORT run yesterday morning (just a little over a mile) for a recovery. It actually felt pretty good! Last night was some easy yoga... I like this momentum!

Doris, I'm sorry to hear about your kitty. I had to make the same decision last night. It sucks. Knowing its what's best doesn't make it any less painful for us. Kixx was not eating and starting to hide when he thought we might grab him to force food into him. Vet said it was fatty liver disease.

Cari, thought about you today. Lots of Flying Pig memories coming up via Facebook.

Good morning, May Rookies!

Feeling pretty good after an easy day yesterday. Went to a Gentle Yoga class, which was perfect for race recovery. My race on Sunday really seemed to be the push I need to get back into running more seriously/regularly.

Have a super day!
