Trish, best of luck with the tough day. Big squishy hugs and lots of love coming your way across the continent...

Penny, I hope you're having a fun time. BEST of luck with the race tomorrow. The weather looks good :o)

Doris, dang, those toes! It does sound like a toe-box thing doesn't it? Sometimes it isn't about the size of the box but the way the toes slide into the end of the shoe as you run. It sounds like the same progression of events that happened to me when I lost my big and second toenails during half-marathon training and I never really figured out why it happened. Now, I was ramping up the distances and it was in the heat of summer. I didn't end up switching shoes. I alternated my Saucony's with a way more open-box non-supportive shoe (can't remember what they were, but they were like the Nike frees are now) but every few runs my toes ended up bloody or bruised and sore no matter which shoes I was in. Eventually I lost the nails and the problem went away. Never did figure it out. Socks, shoes, road camber, surface, incline, foot swelling/time of day... no idea. I can tell you that it felt a LOT better when the toenails actually fell off though - sorry, that's probably not helpful.

Heather, it's so good to see you again! It sounds like a huge rough patch indeed. Reaching out is awesome, so glad you dropped by. What event are you doing up north? I keep seeing ads for nurses in BC - I wish I could talk my kids into another move. sigh.

And Doris, I hope you and kitty are spending some quality time together. We went through something like that with our kitty last year. She had liver cancer and had a massive tumour. When it was time, we knew. so sad though.

Well, it's another weekend full of work for me, picking up dropped shifts gives me 30-50 hours a week it seems - and always on the weekend. Why doesn't anyone call in sick on, say, a Wednesday morning? Hmmmm.....? No running for me this week. I've been sick, really sick. I'm starting to get better, but a stretch of nights isn't going to help is it? Onboarding appointment at the hospital on Monday and hopefully I'll find out when I actually start work there. Sh**'s about to get real, I'd say!

What am I forgetting...? Oh, James! Hi James!! Welcome. Yeah, I guess this is sort of a graduate-level rookie group here isn't it? Most of you all have logged many, many more events and miles than I have done though, so maybe I'm one of the rookiest of the group? Haha!

It just occurred to me that there might be a new thread.... off to go look for one. Have a great weekend y'all!

Trish, I wear Hoka one-one. Brand. These are the same size as my last pair and the model did not change. Just weird how all of a sudden I have toe issues. I am going to tape my toes for tomorrow's planned run/walk. Hopefully that will help.
Any exercise is good, miss mash or not. Hikes up mountains are also good. No mountains here though. The only "hills" are the bridges.

Today, went to the farmer's market for breakfast. I had bread pudding. It was AMAZING bread pudding. Probably the best I have ever eaten! I know it's not really for breakfast but it was yummy.
James, glad to see you getting out there:)

Happy weekend all:)

Good morning!

Ran/walked 4 miles this morning with my most consistent run since I got started back. It was cooler this morning so that was an added bonus. Everything just felt good.

Hey all,

Today was another weird one. Hit the gym late, and really didn't want to be there...did an hour of a mish mash of exercises...at the end of the day it was a pretty good outing. Tomorrow I am hiking up knox mountain with a friend, then hitting Cassie's funeral...praying that I can make it through the day!!

Doris, sounds like the toe box on your sneaks is smaller than you are used to. You may need to either move up a size, or look to another model. I have had similar issues with dift brands over the years. Which brand do you use?

Hugs,
Trish

Trish, you may certainly virtually run my race with me:). It is April 17, start gun is at 7:30.
Nera, I would rather sew, or craft, than run in cold rainy weather too.

Rooks, I need Nouri collective wisdom. I have been wearing the same brand and style of running shoe for a few years. The model has not changed, except for color. This week I have toe issues. The second toe on each foot is bruised. The nail is bruised, and the toe itself is bruised from the tip to the first knuckle. It almost feels like my toe is twisting in the sneaker. There are absolutely no problems for the first 5 miles, then, suddenly my toes hurt. They hurt so bad last night that I woke up every time I moved in my sleep. I plan on taping the pesky digits down Sunday when I have another long run planned. I welcome any advice you can offer.

Hey all,
Had a weird day today, just didn't have any focus or want to get stuff done. One of my friends really wanted to do a hike tonight, so we went...it was great, 1.5 hours of up and down a mountain...now I feel ready to continue this program!

2 months and a week and I am run/walking (with a big emphasis on walking) a half...need to get more miles on these legs!!

Welcome James!! As Penny said, a lot of us aren't rookies, but also a lot of us are starting back at scratch...like me:-)

Doris, I am so sorry about your kitty...just hug her and love her....Good luck with your 16k, I would love to virtually run part of it with you:-)

Enjoy your race Penny, can't wait to see your progress!!! xoxo

Hugs,
Trish

Welcome James:). Also not a rookie.....I am training for a 16K in two weeks. I know I cannot run the entire thing so I am using a walk-run plan. I have to go early in the morning or at sunset as its stinking hot during the day! It's all good though:)
He team. DH's shoulder is doing just fine. He is bored and restless. I have to keep reminding him that he needs to wear the sling. Sheesh.
The kitty is not doing as well. She has started to occasionally cough up blood. The vet thinks it's a secondary infection from the tumor. I guess it's common with the type of lung cancer she has. But, she is not in any pain and has a healthy appetite! We are feeding her three "meals" a day plus two snacks. No weight gain, just a little loss this month. HOpefully we will have a little more time with her.
I hope everyone is doing well. Trish, as usually, is a rock star:)
Nera, any time you get any exercise is great. It doesn't matter how slow you are, you are getting it done.
Hmmmm, I think my brain has melted. Just got back from a 6 miler. I left just before sunset, when the temp. Had started to drop. I must say that I love my "Chilly" towel:)
Off to shower.

Life is fragile. Love, laugh and enjoy.

Welcome James.
Most of us aren't rookies in the dictionary sense. Not anymore anyway. Myself, I've been a runner for 12 years now. I still feel like a newbie on race day.

Hey Team! I just joined the team today and this looked like a good place to introduce myself. I am not a rookie runner but I feel like one. I have ran 3 full marathons and 5 halves but due to some setbacks I let myself get way out of shape. Now I am trying to do a comeback. I've signed up for a full marathon in November and I am on the long road to getting back into it!

Hey everyone!

Had a great workout at the gym today, a lot of ST, a core class, and an hour on the AMT...felt awesome after! Tomorrow I am doing leg day, another class, and a hike up Mount Boucherie:-)

Wow Heath, that is a tough haul for sure! We all need a platform to grieve. I totally understand to stop moving and check out...guilty as charged for a long time. Depression is a tough one to get past...I'm working on it...day to day!! You will make it chicka, use Whistler as a carrot, that's what I'm doing:-)

Trish, I am so sorry for your loss! I feel like I'm always miles away when life deals you the blows. I don't blame you one bit for wanting to take those kids under your wing. You know all too well what they're going through. I love you, friend. Please reach out if you need any of us, and you WILL be seeing me in 2.5 months!

My daughter's paternal grandfather passed away which was an awkward place to be as the ex-daughter-in-law who cared deeply for him. Kind of felt like I wasn't allowed to grieve or say good-bye, and felt very isolated. Then my current mother-in-law, who is an ovarian cancer survivor gave us a scare by developing fluid around her heart. I love her very much and my husband was beside himself. I knew I was needed here, and thankfully she pulled through with medication, but the grief kind of came crashing down around my ears. It was way easier to order out and stop moving, which made me feel worse.

Why is it that when life gets tough, we stop the very things that we need to be doing to help our bodies and hearts heal? Today I walked on my lunch break and despite eating a pastry for breakfast, I'm still able to get through the remainder of the day inside my calorie range with careful thought. Time to visualize the stress of the past few weeks as a wound up rubber band that needs to be released so I can propel forward.

Love to my Rookies.

Went for a walk outside the first one of the season. Wow so out of shape. I have a 1.2 course that I could do in 25 minute. Today I had to cut it short and it took 35 minutes. But I need to keep at it. On April 23rd we are going to the PBR again and there will be lots of walking and standing.

Hi team. Glad to see everyone is doing OK.
Kirstin, hurray on the exam and the job:). OH, and the run too!
Nera, no one says exercise has to be planned or "formal". Whatever works for you to keep on moving is good.
Carrie, I am looking forward to my taper in one more week. My 16K is April 17th. I am getting excited for it as its my first "race" in several years. I just plan to finish, no other goal in mind.
Umm, what else?
Heather, reach out when you need to or just to say "hi". It's why we are here.
Trish, tax time, bleh. I need to finish ours.
DH is doing better. He started PT last week. He is not supposed to be using that arm but he is. I remind him to leave it in its sling, but no. Every time I turn around, it's off. Sheesh. I hope the PT yells at him today:)
Our cat is sliding downhill with her health. She is coughing more and is much more lethargic. She still eats a ton and goes outside and doesn't seem to be in any pain. It is only a matter of time though. Sad.

Gotta fly, have a great week all:)

Hi friends. It's been challenging to keep momentum going. Had a rough emotional patch, but think I'm noting a pattern. It'll be important for me to recognize it for what it is and deploy countermeasures. Today's countermeasure is reaching out to you all. Hope everyone is doing well.

Kirsten congratulations on passing your exams and getting a job. My exercise is a bit odd. I do maybe 10 to 15 minutes doing aerobics or running up and down the basement stairs. Nothing organized or planned out just what I feel like doing at the moment. It is just to get me moving and the idea of doing any sort of formal routine work out kind of puts me off. So right now I am just doing my weird little work outs.

That's great Carrie! Enjoy the nice weather!!! I've never actually DONE the yoga, but I know others who have.

Trish, hang in there! Busy season is CRAZY busy for you, isn't it.

So, I got a job! It's just part time, in an integrated stroke unit at a regional health centre, and after 3 months I can start training for other units. This will give me a chance to try out some of the other specialties. We have a children/youth mental health unit that I'm interested in, or crisis where I was before. It's a HUGE step for us. It's been so long since anyone in my family had a 'real' job! What a relief!

Hi all!

Got in 6 miles this morning. The weather is gorgeous - I was even a little warm at the end of my run!

Kirsten - My shoes don't have a lot of miles on them, but maybe since it's been a while since I've been running this much I should look into a new pair anyway... something to think about. I'll have to check out Toe Yoga - sounds interesting!

I took a day off today - I am really enjoying it. The sun is out, it's warm, I get to visit my bestie tonight... life is good.

Hey all, checking back in!

I'm in my busy season, and am feeling the stress for sure. Kidlets are on Spring Break, and both are doing really well....Monkey seems to be doing a lot better.

Training is going well, 3rd workout of the week today, Sharon litterally kicked my butt! I'm gonna feel it tomorrow. Hoping for a successful day tomorrow - a lot of taxes, and a lot of working out...working on making myself be consistent, and happy.

Hugs and love,
Trish

Ok, Sis, did it work? Are you warm??? It was super depressing driving through the Carolinas and into Virginia and watching the temperature droooooooooop. Sigh.

Doris, so glad hubby's rotator repair went well. How long is the recovery period? I imagine sailing requires a fairly intact shoulder, does it not? Anyway, I hope it's all good. Good job on the training. When is your race again? A 16k - that's a pretty solid distance. You can do it!!!

Good for you, Nera. I HATE exercising when there is anyone else in the house. And I totally hear you about worrying about tomorrow. Heck, even WHILE I'm exercising, I'm already thinking about/worrying about the next workout. sigh. I'm trying.

Becca, wow your baby is really growing up huh? Hope you're all feeling well again. AI disease huh? Me too. My dr. asked me to try going gluten free a few years ago. Well, it was a gluten challenge. Scope, go without gluten for eight weeks, have a scope, eat gluten, have a scope/biopsy. Not a fun summer, let me tell you. I did feel better for the first six weeks but then everything returned to the previous condition. And the challenge was negative - no gluten allergy or sensitivity. I hope you have better results than I did. I think things are much easier these days with regards to gluten free-ness. It's such a rage. When I did it, I couldn't eat bread or pasta at all because there were no alternatives. Anyway, I hope your foot xray is good news.

Carrie! Google toe yoga!!! It's awesome :o) How are your shoes, missy?

Good heavens, Skirnir. I guess you all don't have school nurses anymore either? Yikes! What a crazy job!!! As for finding your place in the world, I absolutely know what you mean. Before I had kids (stayed home for 8 years) I worked in a commercial and retail nursery, before that I was a medical secretary, before that a landscaper and before that a veterinary technician. I never really felt like any of these were 'the job' or a career for me. Be careful - you might end up going to nursing school like I did! lol!!!

Let's see.. well, I started RUNNING again! Aw, it felt AWESOME. I missed it sooo much. I found a trail through the zoo on Monday and a new rail trail today. It was like magic. I loved it. sigh. Also, I heard from my references that the hospital job I interviewed for before March break has called for references. So, that's a good sign right?? I passed my exams, turned in my paperwork and now I just need a job!

Howdy all. Did my run in my way old shoes by mistake. Shin splints. Grabbed a snack at Tim Hortons and realized the shoulder was achier than usual. Went to yoga anyway.
Today was not my day for wise decisions.

Hi!!! Carrie-sounds like your body is adopting well to running. :) Ask Frank (drebenezer) about the toe-I remember he had that a year or 2 ago.
Trish- sounds amazing time with P!! :) I hope that Josh finds his way out of his sadness. He's got the best mother around so I have great confidence that he will. Sending tight hugs.
Doris-glad hubby is doing okay. Anytime I hear shoulder surgery/repair/injury I cringe! It sounds so very painful!
Kirstin- hope you sprinkle the heat and sunshine over my house as you drive/fly back to your house.
I've been running regularly-Carrie, mine is getting easier ,too. I think my adrenals are finally healing. Yesterday, my almost 6 yr old, grabbed his bike when he saw me walking down the driveway. I always crave my alone time on runs and walks but thought he could use the exercise time not to mention MOM time. I had the BEST run in a long time. Easy paced with a chatterbox child next to me . got back home and realized as easy as it was, my pace was the best in a long time. I'll have to take him more often, I guess. Time now to get kids focused on schoolwork. Baby boy is feeling better so that is a huge blessing!

Hi all!

Got in almost 5 miles this morning. I am seeing *some* progress in my runs - I'm not walking as much, and my legs and lungs are much happier on my runs. Hurrah! Small steps.

I'm thinking about a new Garmin... mine is taking FOREVER to kick in, and the battery is dying much more quickly than it used to. I've been looking at a few, but I'm also thinking about an Apple Watch...? Anyone out there have one?

Have a great day!

HI team. How did it get to be March 22 already? DH had his rotator repair last week. He is doing fine. We had to get a chaise lounge for him to sleep in as he cant get into the bed. It's working out as he is getting enough sleep so he isn't cranky:)
I am madly training for the 16K I signed up for. I will use run/walk interbvals as I do not have enough time to properly train for all running. It's all good though:)
I did read back on everyon's posts. Seems like things are moving along.

I did about 15 minutes of exercising when I got home today. I had the house to myself so I didn't have to worry about looking dumb in front of anyone. I just did some marching in place and basic aerobic moves. Then every couple of minutes would walk up and down the basement stairs. It was nice to move again but boy it tuckered me out more than I would have guessed. I was quite productive today after work. I cleaned my kitchen floor and put the last two borders on a quilt top. I am not usually this energetic. I was thinking while making supper that oh I probably won't be like this tomorrow. But then I thought well what does that matter TODAY I am and that is what counts. I have to stop worrying about what happens tomorrow and just concentrate on what I can do today.

Trish- Sending positive thoughts your way. Hope you guys are able to find some awesome help. Also, how awesome that you were able to spend so much time with Penny!
Carilouie- I completely agree with the falling apart thing (and the extra pounds).

Monday and back to the grindstone. Youngest DS (2YO) was sick all weekend. Cough, runny nose, high fever. All he wanted to do was snuggle on the couch and watch tv or read books. I love the snuggle part but not the sick part. He seems to have broke his fever overnight so he was back to daycare today...in undies! He has been good at keeping them dry on weekends and evenings. He said he wanted to wear them to daycare today so I am excited to see how it went!
We started a fitness challenge at work today. It is logging steps taken throughout the day. We got a deal on Fitbits but I didn't like the last one I ordered (sent it back) so I didn't try a new one. I can track steps on my phone...when I remember to carry it with me.
I am trying to go gluten free this week. I have an auto-immune disease and lots of people on a FB group talk about how much better they feel following a gluten-free, dairy-free, or paleo diet.
Still waiting for word on my foot xray from last week. Not too keen on the walking boot idea but if it works, I guess I will wear it and heal my foot.

Happy Spring all!

It's another beautiful day. A little chilly, but ok. I have a three day week - I'm looking forward to seeing some family on Thursday and Friday.

My left big toe has been bothering me lately - I feel like I'm falling apart. I don't suppose it has anything to do with the extra pounds I'm carrying around with me... sigh. If it's nice tonight after work, I'll get in a run...

Trish: Sorry to hear about Monkey's suicidal thoughts. I have to admit my twin and I both had such thoughts in high school. Having a twin, someone I could really talk to, really helped though. I hope you can find some help for Monkey.

Did a 5K last weekend. Need to add my time to my signature, but did it in 34 minutes 16 seconds. Which for me, is quite good. Run walk interval person. Would like to possibly do a 10K maybe late May or June.

I am jealous of those who know what they want to do with their lives, as I feel so directionless. I am trying to help my family and want to help others and would prefer a job that gives me some purpose in life. But can not seem to find such a thing. Still delivering groceries through Instacart. As a first job, pay is crap and irregular. Recently added to a local school districts substitute secretary list. First time substituting a student comes in feeling bad. He tells me he has a tummy ache, and threw up yesterday and I had him call home for pickup. Then while he is waiting for pickup he tells the principal that he has chest pains. To which she calls the paramedics. Ack, should I have spent more time with him? I am not a doctor or a nurse and have no idea how much I should do and the schools aren't really telling me much either. Second time substituting we had a lockdown due to a driveby shooting of a car. It was right when students were going to be let out for the day, so parents are in the parking lot calling into the office to find out why students are not coming out of the school building. Phones were ringing off the hook. Did the best I could, but had no idea how much to tell parents and had little information ourselves. What in the world will happen on day three?

Back from a weekend with friends in a cabin in northern Wisconsin. The little bit of drama that developed for once I was not involved but reinforces my claim that nothing good happens in bars. LOL!!! All in all was fun but glad to be home in my own space and sleep in my own bed. I really miss that as I never sleep well when I am away from home.

Hey everyone!

I'm feeling awesome tonight! I never told Penny I was coming to Calgary (she saw my post 4 days ago, so knew)....just figured whatever time they had, would be amazing! So we got here late Wednesday. Thursday we headed to a couple of malls, then downtown to a huge skatepark for Monkey to have fun. After that, we met up with P and her family for dinner...just like meeting up with my best friend!! LOVE them so much:-)

Today we were going to meet with Pen and Roo at the zoo, but P wasn't feeling great this morning. Went with Missy, Sarah, and Monkey...it was an awesome day in the sun - not super warm, but I did get a sunburn. Ended up having dinner with Penny, Paul and Roo after, followed up by a "get Josh new sneaks" chaser at the running room. Tomorrow we are going for a hike and a picnic!

Penny and I have never been in a place without an agenda...a race, a ringette game etc...this is AMAZING!! We just get to hang:-)

Kirsten, let's chat! It is interesting how things are playing out...

Nera....thanks a ton sweetie!!

Gotta fly, it is 1230 here, but only 11:30 where I live...LOL:-)

Trish, Oh my goodness! Sometimes SP glitches out on me and don't show me all the posts - I think I missed something!!! So sorry. I hope you and monkey and missy are hanging in there together. I may have some resources for you if you're in need of them. I don't talk about the kind of nursing I do, but I'll let you fill in the blanks here. If you need any information about treatment options and so on, please pm me. No medical advice, just support. Love you lady!

I'm still in the Sunshine state and it's lovely! But, time to go home in the morning. 24 hours. Yikes. Wish us luck.

Hi all!

Got about 4.5 miles in this morning. A little frustrating to have to go back to dark mornings for Daylight Savings (grrr) but that should change soon enough.

Have a super day!

OHMYGOSH!!! I'm so tired! We drove back from the lower mainland today after the weekends festivities:-) Missy is so happy her team won gold in the provincial tournament. She played better than I have ever seen her play...

Monkey had a great time visiting his best buddy on Vancouver Island...he is much calmer now...

In a couple of days we are heading to Calgary for another 5 days...should be a good time.

Is it ok if I message you guys that have some background in suicide/mental health issues? Nera, when we get back, let's chat ok?

Love you all,
Trish

Hi!!! Tonight is unusually busy... that means that spring sports are starting up. Alek is trying out for freshman baseball- he only played ONE year and that was 2 years ago. Say a prayer for him, please.
I ran 6 miles this afternoon-the weather is perfect (except I like the sun for tanning purposes) with gray and high 50s.
I hope ya'll are doing well. I didn't even get to read back-maybe later.

20ish kilometres this morning. The ATB is now three weeks away and, I'm ready, but nervous. Normal, right?
It's consuming all my thoughts though. I'll be happy when it's over and I'm enjoying the post race pedicure.

It is hard Trish finding help. Our son had real issues with depression in his sophmore year of college. He said he didn't want to hurt himself but he had days where getting out of bed was just impossible. He went to see someone on campus and they cut off the meetings after 6 visits. Said they weren't long term help. Idiots. Found him a "professional" therapist off campus and my son was so unimpressed on his first visit he refused to go back. Said all he talked about was eat better, drink less coffee and here is phamplet with some tips. He is much better now that he is back home. I do think some of it was due to loneliness and the pressures of school. He called me at work one day just in tears because he could feel himself sliding down in to the black hole as he called it. We decided it was best for him to come home for the weekend. I stayed on the phone and talked him through getting ready. It was like " are you standing up yet?" "okay go to your dresser and get clothes to get dressed in". I did that until he was to the point of walking out the door to get in his car. He was so sweet he said mom you will get in trouble for being on the phone so long at work. I replied "they can go ***** themselves you are my first priority." They could have fired me the minute I hung up and I wouldn't have cared or changed a thing. I knew what my son was going through as his brain works a bit like mine. You get so caught in a cycle of trying to figure out what to do you end up running mental circles. And that indecisiveness gets so mentally exhausting and frustrating. I told my son when you start to feel like that just pick an action and start doing something. Because just getting started, getting over that indecisiveness helps a lot. Sometimes I do some stupid chore like wash a few dishes or tidy up the counter and that decision and follow through lets me keep on moving. I often compare my brain to an over active hamster and some times he falls off his wheel. LOL!!! I know not a laughing matter but humor(or black humor) has often helped me quite a lot.

Hey everyone!

Missy is having a good tournament in North Vancouver. Her team has won 1 and tied one. Josh is having a great time with his buddy on Vancouver Island...hoping it will help him moving forward. Our hotel is ummm, a flea bag inn...LOL, oh well, at least we have a roof over our heads...

I'm for sure going to get Monkey some help - at least different help as he has had counselors through most of it. Thanks for your concern. Love you guys!!

Gotta fly, hugs and love!!!

HI all. It seems like I just posted yesterday, but, alas it was last month!! Life has been busy since we returned from the Bahamas. Kitty gets another x-ray in two more weeks. I have made, at DH's request, a pottery urn for her when it's time. Seems kinda creepy but I did have fun making it. I made a little mouse knob for it. It took about 10 tries to figure out why my mouse kept looking like a bat! DH is having rotator cuff surgery on Monday. I am not looking forward to the recovery this time. It's his left shoulder and he is left handed. Ought to be fun.......
Can anyone tell me why I thought it would be fun to run a 16K (10 miles) in 4 weeks?? What was I thinking??????
Trish, sorry about Monkey. Get him the help he needs and let him know that I will keep him in my prayers. I worked at a high school that had 8 suicides in 2 years, none for about 15 years prior and none since. I know how you and Miss are feeling so you need to take care of you girls too. With the best guidance, therapy and luck, he should be just fine.
Lots of running going on with everyone else. Nera is has re-arranged the sewing room again too:). Hope everyone has a great end of the work week and a great weekend

Oh Trish that is heart breaking. I hope you can get him what or who he needs to help work through this. Big hugs to all of you.

Our office has the same problem when it warms up outside it gets pretty stuffy. It gets pretty bad at times.

Nera, I've had that problem too! I think the easiest way to access your page is to go to the START page and look up in the TOP Right corner where your user name is. Hover over that with the mouse and you should see a link to your page (under a link to change your preferences and the Log Out command). Hope that helps! It's also on your Start page if you scroll down to the "Community" section. It's the first thing on the list of links in that section.

Hi all!

I have a nasty strain in my right hip flexor, so I took today off from running. Grrr.
It's really hot in my office today. The heat/AC switch doesn't happen until May, so until then, if it stays this warm, I'll be feeling a lot more days like this. Tomorrow - fan.

It was a busy day at work, I'm glad tomorrow is Friday.

Hey all,

Tough week...Monkey has been dealing with feelings of suicide for the past several years, and came clean with it tonight. Need to make sure he feels supported, and also protected...

Tomorrow we are heading down to Vancouver for Missy's provincials...should be a fun time!

Gotta fly, sorry, it is difficult here right now....
Love you all!!

checking in.

Not much new around here. Work is slow and exercise is non-existent. Cole has his last gymnastics meet of the year on Friday.

Pretty frustrated with this back pain, that I don't think is really "back pain". The more it lingers and the more I pay attention, I am certain it is something related to intestines, gallbladder, reproductive system, or something more internal than sore back muscles. I have been dealing with this since last July and have seen family Dr, nurse practioner, PT, Sports Medicine Dr, Neurology, Chiro, etc! I have an appointment on Friday with my family doctor so hopefully we can get to the root of the problem.

Blessings for a great week

I remember most of my dreams. I like the ones where I feel like I am watching a movie. Sometimes I am surprised by the weird stuff my subconcious brings up at night. Some times just the oddest things show up in my dreams.

Still not exercising. I know I need it and I know it would help with a lot of stuff going on with me but I just can't get going on a regular basis.

Neraus-I feel the same way about trying to figure out what I want to do professionally since I was laid off in November. I know I love to help people and communicate so I am looking at options. I could NOT be a salesperson as I'm terrible about applying pressure to people (and I can't stand being the one pressured either). I do not journal but I think its a great idea and can help relieve stress. I am a person who remembers some dreams and have been known to wake up cross with hubby/family members for something they did in my dream :) I've also had times I wake up so happy because something wonderful happened so I guess it goes both ways.

Sorry to hear about the cat with lung cancer :( When is the next xray? Such a lucky cat to have had you to look after and love them-blessed indeed!

Congrats on the wins and successful testing. Was the job interview successful?

To those getting in that great daily mileage-just WOW is all I can say!! Good luck with the 5K's and 10K's coming up. I keep thinking I should bite the bullet and sign up for a 5K as it would keep me honest with my workouts. To be honest I struggle more with my eating then I do with exercise (usually get in 4 to 6 miles a day since I've been out of work). Need to focus on what I'm eating and how much.

Well take care all and have a great week!

Nerus: My husband claims he never remembers his dreams if he does dream. Rarely do my dreams bring out emotions, but sometimes they do. Unease, a bit of fear sometimes. This recent time was grumpy with hubby.

Emotions are a bit high for me today. Recently was added to the substitute secretary list for a local school district. They only call you when the regular secretary is out, so you are walking into a school you have never been in often times and expected to be useful. Did not feel overly useful or overly skilled/competent today. No idea when they will call again. Today was the first day subbing completely, not just at that particular school.

Finally someone who gets how real emotions from dreams can be. When I have mentioned it to people around me they just kind of shrug and say I guess. Maybe they are just too embarrassed to admit that dreams can affect them that way.

The journaling I am doing when I feel like it. Days that emotions are running high. Or sometimes I try to sort thoughts out on paper that I can't in my head. I am really trying to sort out my professional life and what kind of job I want to move on to. Problem is I don't want to do anything that would require me to go back to school as that doesn't appeal to me at all. Well that severely limits my options.

Nearus: I have tried journaling before, but never really kept at it. For some reason, I would do some for awhile and then just stop for a long time. How does one consistently do such a thing?

Oh, and emotions from dreams. I would have to agree. The other day I was annoyed with my husband when I woke up, because he had been mean to me in a dream. I don't think he realized it, as I tried not to take it out on him in anyway.

Sorry, to hear about the cat with lung cancer. Did not know cats get such things. Not sure why I did not know that. Our previous cat had asthma according to the vet, so it shouldn't surprise me. But the picture going around on facebook of the dog with braces on his teeth, did surprise me for some reason. (And no, it was not for cosmetic reasons. Poor thing could not properly close his mouth with how his teeth came in.)

Trish: Glad you are feeling mostly better. How do you maintain that crazy busy schedule?

Neraus: Acck, sounds like a lot of unexpected expenses. Darn life! Kick it back! Darn, be careful with those irons. Maybe this is a reason not to iron. :)

Considering signing up for a 5K on Saturday, yes, I am a late signer upper. But I have a bit of a sore back today and just don’t know how I will feel Saturday. Back has been off and on bothering me, but then I am delivering groceries and sometimes those large packs of bottled water bother me, especially when I throw them under the grocery cart. A bit too far to bend down with them. Of course the only reason not to sign up, is that I want to beat a previous 5K time and would get disappointed if I don't beat last year's time.

It is 55 and sunny here. Very warm for early March. Quite breezy but still really enjoyed being out doing errands. My exercise was to rearrange my new sewing area again. Turned my sewing table so I sit closer to the cutting table and ironing board. Gave me more room so I could move the couch back about a foot so the tv area I am forced to share space with is not as squished. My best move today( and by best I mean really stupid) I grabbed my iron by ironing surface to see where the on off switch was. Too bad the iron had been on for a few minutes so a couple of my fingertips on my right hand don't have fingerprints anymore. LOL!!!

Eeek! I'm really far behind on here!

I got in *almost* six miles this morning. I usually don't mind when I *almost* hit my goal, but today I did 5.94 and it is so annoying. Oh well. There will be more runs.

It was a lot colder for my run than I thought it was going to be - more wind, and totally overcast. I could use a nap.

Have a great day, Rookies!

The crud is going around here. I was sick for a week then my son now my husband. All most everyone I have talked to got it this year. It is unusual for me to get it. For some reason I don't get sick that often. I wish I could say it was due to healthy living giving me a great immune system but more likely I just got lucky. LOL!!!

Hey everyone,

Starting to feel human here...just a bad chest cough and nasal stuff...tomorrow will be as good as new:-) Monkey has baseball tomorrow, and Missy has a ringette game, then is reffing for a late game. Sunday is silly...Monkey has a game at 9, then a year end party at 3, then AA Baseball tryouts @ 6:30...yikes!

Nicely done sis!! You rock:-)

Gotta fly, love you all, and will try to read back tomorrow.

Heather- diastasis recti is the separation or rectus abdominis muscles usually from pregnancy but men and other people also get it. There are special exercises that strengthen it differently than just planks, etc. Think of kegals up and into the abdomen- hard to explain. People with DR often have poochy tummies even without fat on them and some are severe with organs pressing through, similar to a hernia. I don't know if mine will ever be 100% but I'm working on it to get it strong, anyway.
I walked 4.4 miles today-NO WIND!! Not even a breeze so it was warm out there! (26* but feels like 32*) I'm hoping to run some sprints tomorrow-I'll see how my left hip flexor feels-it acted up while I walked today and it's feeling tender now. Good grief-sucks to be over 40. I lifted last night and I"m happy to be feeling that attention today in the glutes and triceps.
Trish- wish you weren't sick. emoticon
Have a fantastic weekend, Team!

Wow, March already! I haven't exercised at all since Cole and I got back from Colorado Springs Monday night. The Olympic Training Center is so inspirational, especially since we got to see some sweet moves by a few men's gymnastics Olympians and Olympic hopefuls. One would think there would be some motivation to exercise after watching them!

The weather is supposed to be nice this weekend so hopefully we can get outside and enjoy the sunshine! My oldest DS is in Minneapolis this weekend for high school State Science Olympiad. Maybe the younger two and I will go to the Children's museum tomorrow.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Well someone from my work looked at my son's car. It is antifreeze that is dripping which means possible head gasket issue. I have been here before and that is a $1000 bill at least to fix it. On the plus side he gave us a name of place he likes to work with that does good work and is pretty reasonable in pricing. Also found on google that this car has a problem with the radiator cap not venting right causing coolant to be forced out. So we are going to replace that which is like $20 so good thoughts that we get lucky for a change and the cheaper option works.

Penny, how'd the run go?

Carrie, way to go!

Anne, what is this “abdominal separation” of which you speak?

Kirsten, busy week for you!

Trish, I sympathize deeply with what you're going through. Mine started out as bronchitis, then I dumped my husband's motorcycle and have been nursing serious bruises and muscle knots ever since. After that I came down with another cold! I'm now finally to the point where I feel like I'm back to normal. Best wishes on a speedy recovery!

Nera, ugh! Just ugh!

I managed to get three straight days in of a lunchtime 2 miler. I feel like I'm back in the game finally.

The gunk is sweeping through our house. It runs about a week. Funny but the guys didn't get it until almost 2 weeks after I got better.

In other news life is kicking us good and hard. College tuition, bill from the oral surgeon, son's car has a mystery leak and son also dropped laptop and turned it in to a funky paperweight. Please stop the ride I would like to get off.

Exam tomorrow, job interview Thursday and back to full-time work Friday. sigh. What a week.

As soon as I get back from Florida I'm asking my ear doctor for the go-ahead to start running again.

Happy March everybody!!!

Hi all!

Anne - I did 6 miles on Sunday and 4 this morning. I have a 10-mile event in May that I'm training for. I'm encouraged by the relative ease of my runs, despite my loooooong running hiatus. I'm paying close attention to my body and doing a lot of stretching and yoga in between runs.

Have a great night, Rookies!

We had warm and sunny Sunday and Monday so today it's freezing rain. YUCK! I did an intense interval workout on the basement bike.
Carrie- I was wondering how many miles you did-was that Sunday??? HOORAY!!! Sunday's 7 miler was my longest in forever, too.
Backing up into Feb's thread-Doris, I'm sorry about your cat. I hope she's got many months left with you.
Nera- I don't journal... not sure I would know what to write down.
I wrote down new goals for this month. Almost the same as last month but added working on abdominal separation instead of planks . Upped the pushups to 400 for March. I did 320 in February!!! Also a sub goal of doing 15 in one set--I'm at 10 max but only occasionally. Usually I can kick out 8 pretty easily. I'm so excited!!!

I have 4 kilometres on the schedule for tonight. Yesterday it was snowy and icy, today it's all sunshine and warmth.Needless to say, the snow's almost all gone again but the ice is hit and miss.
Upright and smiling is the goal for today.
