Well being a Wild fan isn't that rewarding either. They usually just scrape in to the play offs then lose in the first round. Just happy my son wants to do something with me.

I am sorry to hear about your kitty. Hopefully it won't affect her much and her final months will be happy and loving.

Trish way cool on Josh winning a gold metal.

And good luck on the nursing exams or whatever your exam is for. LOL!!! For some reason I always did well on tests.

Wow! Gold medal!!! Hurray Josh:)
Carrie, 6 mile runs. Wow!!
Kirstin, how was your test? I am sure you passed. When will you find out?
Nera, I hate it when I sleep in backwards PJs too.
Hockey, hmmmm, when I was teaching, I went to a few games each year to support the kids but I don't know all the rules so it's tough to follow.
I am tired.
My kitty has lung cancer. There is really nothing anyone can do. We don't know how fast the tumor is growing yet. She will have another x-Ray in a few weeks so we can have a better idea of long she has. She is not in any pain and is mostly herself.. She is hungry all the time now and she sleeps a lot more. Cats sleep a lot anyway so she mostly sleeps now. But, we still play with the toys, just not as vigorously or as often. We go for walks along the docks but not as often and we don't run home. So, all is well.

I have been getting some running in. Working on consistency and pacing but short distances right now.

Life is fragile. Love, laugh and enjoy.

Ohmygosh...Josh won a gold medal at the BCWG today:-) So proud of him for not letting the drama affect his performance!! I'm done with commuting to Penticton, thankfully I don't have to tomorrow.

Soooo tired, will get back here tomorrow!!

You guys are awesome! lol - I just love reading all your posts :o)

Sis, abs! Woohooo! Congrats. That hard work is bound to pay off eventually right? IKWYM about the alarm(s). Mine is my phone on vibrate and it wakes me up just fine. Weird how differently we sleep and wake isn't it?

Carrie, SIX MILES - amazing! You're rocking this winter no matter how hard it's been.

Trish, your kids. Amazing. How is everybody feeling? Ever sort out that tummy mystery? So glad things are going well with your trainer.

Nera - I tried to pick up hockey but I live in Ontario so... sigh. It isn't particularly rewarding to be a fan.

Doris, how's the kitty and the hubby? That trek home sounded pretty rough. I hope everyone is ok now.

Well folks, that's about all I can remember off the top of my head. I've been in 'seclusion' studying for the NCLEX but that doesn't excuse me not popping in here now and then! I average 10 hours a day. It's killing me!!! But nearly there. My exam is Wednesday. I'm nervous, but my practice tests this week have really improved and I feel pretty confident. I've worked SO hard, even harder than I did in actual nursing school. I hope it pays off.

And, since I have to wait two weeks for my results and the kids are off school for most of March (seriously! 15 days off school. We only have one full week the whole month), AND since hub is still unemployed I thought, what the heck, why not head south for awhile? I have a brother and a sister in FLA, so, what the heck. I guess I'll be waving at lots of you on my way by! Beaches, seashells, sunsets... Ahhhh.... I haven't been anywhere in years and years. The kids are so excited.

Three sleeps till exam day. Night Rookies!!

Nera -
I journal every day and I love it. For me, writing helps me get stuff out that I would otherwise keep bottled in. It actually helps me not to obsess over things. If you are interested in including art with your journal, I'm going to suggest the book The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. It is so fantastic. It's the book that really got me into journal writing in the first place!

Going to do a little school work before I head out for a walk. It's a beautiful day and I want to stay loose after this morning's run. I'll probably end up at the bookstore, because, why not.

Yeah Trish great to hear about Josh's team winning.

Yeah Cheaper that you can see your abs. Keep at it.

I woke up in a very sad sour mood. All my dreams last night were situations where bad things were happening to me via people I care about. I don't know how others are but for me emotions caused by dreams are just as real and leave the same residue that waking emotions do. It doesn't help that to day is very gray very wet and I have to spend the day cleaning house for a birthday party that may or may not happen because my one sister in law is ticked off. Ufda followed by a big sigh.

Do any of you journal or art journal? This has kind of come in to my life and it sort of strikes a chord with me but kind of afraid that I dwell too much on stuff now is journaling going to make that trait worse. I do not need to be more self obsessed if that is even possible. LOL!!!

Good morning all!

So I did it. I got out for a run this morning. Six miles. I don't even remember the last time I ran six miles. It actually felt really good - I took a few walking breaks and was still happy with my time. It's nice to be getting a little momentum with the longer runs...

Have a great day!

Hooray for Josh's team!!!! And I'm super happy to read that your workout, Trish, was amazing!
Hockey- emoticon Love watching it ! wish I could play. We started our two oldest boys on the ice when they were 6 and 5. They played til they graduated high school. We've had a couple other kids dabble in it but none had the passion that those two had/have.
I walked 8.3 miles today! We had a snow storm Wed/Thursday and now it's almost 40 so it's melting. Rain and 50 tomorrow. Apparently, another storm coming through next weekend. Only one more month left of winter weather so I can deal with it.
I'm so excited! I can see my abs!! Well, the outline of them. I lost another almost 1/2 inch this past week. Not sure what it is, but maybe a combo of everything I'm working on is finally paying off! After the past 2 years of gaining and not losing, I'm hesitant to get excited but I am thankful.
Enjoy your weekend, Team!

Hey guys,

Monkey's team won both games today, so now they play tomorrow morning - win and they go for Gold at the games, lose, and they go for bronze. It was a tough day yesterday for him, but today is better, so all good.

Did nothing today as we were at the rink, tomorrow will be a rocking workout:-)

Hugs,
Trish

I never watched hockey neither did my son. But this year he decided he should pick a sport to get interested in and he chose hockey. He wants me to watch it with him. We are so funny as neither of us know that much about the game. We thought they were booing the goalie but finally realized they were saying part of his name Dub. I just looked at the selfie I took of us there and realized the guy behind us totally photo bombed us. It is actually quite funny.

Nera- I too live in the land that hockey built but I am not a hockey fan. However, my oldest son is. So we surprised him with a game on Feb 13. They lost that game too but it was the Bruins coach's 500th career win and the last game the Yew coached so he was pretty excited about that. He once told me it was every Minnesotans dream to play hockey!
Trish- Glad to hear you had a good workout with the trainer.
My workouts have been pretty non-existent this week. Trying to get ready to leave for Colorado tonight.

Hey all,

Today I had a FANTASTIC workout with my trainer. She started with fitness testing, then, because I had so much fun with it, we finished it off with some AWESOME super set stuff. Tomorrow I drop Monkey off at the arena for him to go down to Penticton with his team.

Nera, awesome about the game, live games are so much more fun than watching on the TV.

Sis, nicely done with the run and walk. Snow??? LOL, we are quite warm here.

Alarms...boo, I have relied on my phone before, and it has died...now I only deal with plug in alarm clocks (unless at the hotel, then we all can set them...one has to go off).

Gotta fly, love you guys!

Went to a Wild hockey game with my son last night. I won the tickets at my work Xmas party. The Wild have won 4 in a row then play terrible and lose when we go to see them. But we had a good time. We might start watching more online together.

Food and exercise not so great after being sick. So easy to get off track and so hard to get back on.

Hi, ya'll!!
Carrie- i wake up to hubby's alarm... then I have to wake him up. every single mornig. For each of his THREE alarms!!! Gah!!!!
Trish-that's awful. I hope it clears out of your systems. I think you should have your water tested!!!!
Penny-fantastic on the HM!!!! You're a pro at them. :)
I got out first thing this a.m. for a run. The snow was coming down pretty heavily already so I only did 2.4 miles but did 8x30sec speed intervals to burn some extra fat. Working on pushups the rest of the day now. I walked 7.5 miles yesterday!!!!! It was amazing! (and spring weather in February was nice!)

Hi all!

Alarm, Take 2. I don't know if I didn't have the volume turned up enough, but today I missed my new alarm. Lucky for me, I still had my other alarm set, the one that is louder. Imagine my surprise when I woke up to my old alarm clock - I was so confused.

Have a great day, Rookies!

Hey everyone!

Today was a weird one. Missy was in my room at 1:30 AM with severe abdominal pain. It subsided a bit after giving her advil, but it was still a concern. Today she is doing much better, likely a gastro-intestinal issue. Josh texted me a school that he was having bad pain under his ribs and back on the left side...hmmm, me sees a connection.

Last week my under the counter filtration unit had a blip...the bladder has failed, so I shut down the water, and only used water from my bathroom until it can be fixed. Both kidlets have shown similar symptoms, so I bought a bunch of bottled water to see if it may be unfiltered water that is the culprit.

Josh is totally nervous about the weekend, so proud of him for all he has accomplished.

Me, meh, I have not done very well with the program this week...sleep seems to be way more important than working out. Could be that I had sick kidlets to be beside...don't know.

Gotta fly,

Hugs and love,
Trish

CSTREAM- hope all turns out well for the kitty and the DH.
SCOTIANRUNNER- congrats on the HM!

I don't use an alarm clock. Somehow, I manage to get up M-F before 6am and Sa and Su I am up by 7am. It is a rare occasion to oversleep.

Yesterday, our community laid Fargo (ND) police officer Jason Moszer to rest. He was killed in the line of duty on Feb 10. The vehicle processional went past my development so myself and my 3 sons were able to stand outside, honor his life, and watch in amazement as 600+ law enforcement vehicles drove past. Most were from the tri state (ND, MN, SD) area but vehicles from MT, OH, MI, IA, IN, and even into Canada were present. There were about 2500 law enforcement officers in attendance for the funeral.

Chiropractic appointment went well yesterday. I am so glad to have found some relief from the back pain.

Have a great week everyone.

Hi all. Made it back to Florida. Cat is at the vet having her ultrasound and some fluid from her abdomen extracted. It is not looking like it's an infection. We should get the results later today or first thing tomorrow.
DH is calling the surgeon to schedule his rotator repair.
I am cleaning and doing laundry.
Still a bit tired from the crossing. It was about 19 hours of glorious sailing:). It is tough to stay up all night and then function.......it's all good though:)

I switched my morning alarm to my radio years ago. It wakes me up but doesn't startle me and usually at that time of the day it is some classic rock song. Sometimes I try to guess what my day will be like by the first song I hear. LOL!!!!

I have the day off so I am taking an online art journalling class. I am hoping to figure out some things and in what direction I want my life to go from this exercise.

Good morning Rookies!

Got in a little over 3 miles this morning. I tried a new alarm clock - instead of a sound that jerks me out of bed, I put on a sound that gradually creeps in so I don't get scared awake. It seemed to work - I didn't hit snooze, and I didn't feel tired when I got up. Maybe this means I can get back to morning runs consistently! Hurrah!

Hey all,
Monkey had his last winter games practice tonight. It was the first time the team had played a game together, and it was against the U16AA team. They looked a little rough at the start, but managed to pull it together as the game went on. 2 days left of fueling and hydrating well, then the fun begins!!

Nice job with the HM P, your post race meal is screaming for me to come eat with you...LOL:-)

Hi all!

Got out for almost 3 miles yesterday. I have a 10-mile race in May. This is this first event I've signed up for in over a year. I'm hoping that having an event on the calendar will help me keep my eye on my goals.

Have a great day, Rookies!

Sooo,

Josh lost his game today. Salmon Arm needed to win by 4 goals or less against Kelowna for his team to make provincials...they won by 5, so Monkey's season is pretty much over except for the winter games. Missy's team needed to keep within 1 goal of Salmon Arm, and they did that, so they should be moving on to provincials next month. We will see how things shake out in the next day or two.

Tomorrow Monkey is going snowboarding with friends, so he is happy for that:-) The other bonus (not bonus) for him, is that when Missy is on the coast for provincials, he will be having a visit with his best friend on Vancouver Island.

Gotta fly, hugs and love!!

Hi all.

February is kicking my rear. I feel like I've been on the edge of a cold for about a week now - all I feel like doing is sleeping and eating large quantities of bread. I could use a week off.

I'm working on figuring out how I can get back some consistency in my running and commitment to being healthier. I get all excited for a couple of weeks and then my enthusiasm wanes. Seeing as how I have a 10 mile event in May, I better figure it out, QUICK.

Have a great day, Rookies!

Hey Everyone!

Today I managed to procrastinate my workout until 5:30...then kicked my butt to the gym. Back day done, along with a 35 minute cardio boost. I'm just so tired these days, maybe a visit to my doc is in order...don't know:-(

Tomorrow is a busy work day, and a busy kidlet sports night.

Hugs and love,
Trish

I live in the metro area in Minnesota. I may look at getting a humidifier if I can find one that I don't think just spews cold nasty air. We had one when my son was little and it just got yucky so fast. I went out and bought some sudafed to decongest my nose. I usually avoid it as it gives me hamster brain but not being able to breath is really getting me down. So far the decongestant isn't doing much but I am hoping after another dose or two things will finally open up. I took another day off as I couldn't sleep last night. I can't remember the last time I took off two days in a row for illness.

NERAUS- not sure where you are geographically but I know here in western Minnesota, the air has gotten super dry. Makes even the tiniest of head/sinus colds that much worse! I have started running my humidifier in my room all evening and have already seen improvements (I have even started using a travel one at work). So nice to not wake up with cotton mouth! I still feel some effects of a sinus cold but its getting better.
Here's to hoping you are feeling better soon! emoticon

Wow I have been super slammed with a cold that seemed to come out of no where. I had to stay home from work today. I turned on HGTV and have been sleeping to various home diy shows all day. My nose finally unplugged but when it did it started bleeding. I am hoping just combination dry air and maybe a bit too forceful blowing. My work has a conference on friday and we are expected to be there. Calling in sick is really frowned on so I hope this cold moves out as fast as it moved in.

Okay, so I am caught up on all the rookie news since I last posted. Kirsten- I have to share KITY with my boys! emoticon

Neuro appointment went okay. Good news is that the spinal hemangioma is indicental, meaning, it isn't large enough to cause issues or be worried about it. My xrays looked good, healthy disks, spine, vertebrae and nothing noticeably wrong. So, in the end he chalked up the pain to muscular issues (which can't be seen with the xray or MRI). I still get pain in my spine and in my right side back muscles. The pain isn't bad enough to really keep me from exercising so I guess I will keep plugging away at exercising and strength training. I am hoping that some good ST will strengthen the muscles and diminish the pain. I'm going to start running again and deal with the spine pain as it arises. I am also going to visit with my chiropractor to get his opinion.
That goal of running a marathon is in sight! YEAH! emoticon

Cole had his second gymnastics meet of the season on Saturday. Had mostly better scores than the first meet so things are moving in the right direction. We go to Colorado Springs for a meet at the Olympic Training Center in two weeks. While we are there, we are hoping to catch some male gymnasts training for the Olympic Trials. emoticon emoticon

Hi hi from nightshift land! You guys think you've got it rough with day time winter weather, try nights! I have a hard time getting any exercise when I'm on graveyard. Even with the treadmill at home. My system just gets so discombobulated.

Doris, so sorry for kitty's rough health. :( best of luck for a quick and smooth ride to Fla.

Trish, isn't it drama season in kids' sport? I hear so many similar stories lately. How about a teen hockey team so afraid to leave the dressing room (screaming, abusive "fans") that they call 911 for police escort? Oy.

Nera, chipmunk politics? Ouch!

Bobby, my love to your dear wife. I hope she's feeling better soon. Wait, didn't you two just get back from somewhere warm?!?! Highly unfair I think!

Hmmm... What have I missed? Sorry, that's all I can remember. Oh, the practice exam was, meh. I'm still studying! And it's my Registered Nurse board licensing exam. Finally!!

One more night shift and I get to rejoin you day walkers. Woo hoo! I just may celebrate with a run!!

HI team. It's been a long 8 days here. I did skim everyone's post. Trish's kids still dragging her around to sporting events, Missy has a team mate who isn't very nice. Josh is holding his own.
Kirsten, big exam and behind on studying. Sheesh, who needs to study? How was the practice exam?
Bobby, breaking beer. Oh NO! To the naught mansion with you!!!
Nera, kid with no wisdom teeth, is he no longer wise? Made a gorgeous quilt for young Miss.
Monty, still crazy.
Bcca, checking in.
Sprouts, still plugging along.
I might have missed something or someone, not intentional. If I missed you, "Hi". Glad you are continuing on"

Me, we got to Nassau last Friday, Feb 5th. Cat was sick. Not really eating, crying whenever we touched her, just not herself. Found a vet, carried the fat cat (12 pounds) the 4 ish miles to the vet. Had x-rays. Two issues, a bowel blockage and something in her lungs. She spent a couple days at the animal hospital. Blockage is cleared up, all is well. She has been on antibiotics for 8 days now, went to vet this morning, lungs not looking good. But, the cat is better. Not back to her usual self, but better. She needs an ultrasound to see if the lung thing is pus/liquid infection or a tumor. No ultrasound for pets anywhere in the Bahamas. DH's shoulder is starting to really bother him (torn rotator cuff, 3 tendons). And, the weather kinda sucks for sailing. So, bright and early tomorrow morning, we are heading home to Florida. Hopefully we will be back by Sunday next week. Again, more nasty, gnarly weather heading towards us. So, we will go as fast as possible for the next two days. Then, duck in somewhere to wait out weather, then a long day (16 or so hours, to Florida). Cat gets unltrasound once we are back, her vet is already aware of the issues. Poor kitty, poor DH.
The good news is that taxis are expensive and the bus doesn't go near the animal hospital so we have gotten in a ton of walking, 5-8 miles a day just about everyday that we have been in Nassau.
Gotta fly, talk to all of you again soon.......

Life is fragile. Love, laugh and enjoy.

Trish- that stinks big time. Lots of tight hugs for you-I know they're not Don's, but I love you, Sis!!!
I just joined a 30 day skinny jeans challenge here on spark. Not sure what that means. LOL! I don't need another challenge b/c I'm doing a tracking all food and exercise thing and pushups challenge, too this month. I will see what it brings, though. I just want some inches to melt away and never return.

Trish she threatened another player? And she is how old? There's competitive and then there is you need to lay down and chill for awhile. I had trouble playing sports in high school because I couldn't take it that seriously. yeah I did want to win but when we didn't(and we didn't almost all the time) oh well shoulder shrug. I finally quit when I was dragging myself to 6am basketball practice and the coach would never put me in. Even when we were losing big time. I wasn't the most skilled that is true but I tried very hard and if we were losing by 25 points what difference does it make if I go in and we lose by 30? Not my fault I stopped growing at 5'6". So I left basketball and did much better in tennis. A sport where you get to hit things a trait I find very appealing. LOL!!!!

Hey everyone!

What a busy day here, left the house at 9:30 for Salmon Arm for Monkey's second game of TORL cup. It ended in a tie, albeit one that may be overturned in the future. Monkey's team was up 4-3 with 1.5 minutes left in the game, and the time keeper forgot to start the clock for 1.1 minutes. There was 58 seconds on the clock (should have been game over), and they had a faceoff in our zone. They ended up scoring with 15 seconds left. If I could have jumped over the boards, I would have...LOL, ok, I wouldn't have, but I was vibrating with frustration for the kidlets.

After that, we headed to Vernon for BC Winter Games practice...up until this time, we weren't certain if Josh was the #1 goalie for our team, well, tonight he got his jersey...his number is 1....he is so stoked. We had a team dinner after the practice, and didn't get home until after 10. He is my 10 hour a night sleeper, so tomorrow should be interesting.

Missy's best friend was in town, and she had a wonderful time with her. She also had a ringette game today, which she tied. There was more drama with the coaches daughter...the assistant coach actually kicked her out of the dressing room...interesting!! She is having a hard time being happy and supportive for Josh...she tried out for the same team, and didn't make it. Just want to hug her, and remind her of all that she succeeds in...she wants to go back to BCWG...all good, it is these things that happen as you grow up that develop you as an adult.

Skirnir...yes she does, I don't think that her family actually lead her on how to appropriately comment. As a coach of many dift sports, positive feedback is super important from your peers. At the end of the game today Missy told the team that they worked hard, and did a great job...Tori told them that they totally failed to win the game (that was before cheering for the other team and shaking hands)...bad form for sure. She actually got kicked out of the dressing room for threatening another player. Sounds like you are back in the game!! Looking forward to hearing what you do next!!

Having a wee tough time today...this is one holiday that kinda stinks.

Anyhow, love you all,

Trish

Nera/Trish: I missed seeing the quilt. Darn it. (Okay, now I see a post with a picture.) Very pretty quilt. I treasure my quilts from my great aunt and grandmother, but they also get used.

Becca: Welcome to the group. I am also rather new here.

Trish: Sounds to me like the coachís daughter needs to be told that sometimes one has to keep their mouth shut, as people do not want to hear all negative comments, even if they are meant to be helpful. Hopefully she can learn this one, before she becomes an adult. You really sound like a very busy person with the kidlets and those games and everything else.

Kirsten: What kind of an exam do you have coming up? Guess I missed some of that conversation.

Nera: Having wisdom teeth removed is no fun. My son had his about about a year ago. Luckily, only my husband had a dry socket afterwards. Hope your sonís recovery has been speedy. Yeah, the cost for my sonís was not cheap either. Heh, on the hubby and son arguing politics. It has been the topic of discussion even more after Scaliaís passing in my house and at church.

My first checkin, I think in February. I keep forgetting to checkin regularly, then I stop receiving the email updates. Hope I do better, as I do enjoy reading the posts and seeing what everyone is up to. My son has the week off school this week and is finally over his cold. It hung on forever, then bothered me. Was finally up to doing my run walk intervals this week, but only did a shorter distance, as my calf muscle started bothering me a tad too much. At least my lungs/throat with the cold didnít bother me much. It is a step in the right direction.

Sounds like we're in a similar climate - it got up to about 9 or 10 degrees F. I'm lucky that my husband's workplace has a free gym. I use the treadmills during this time of the year and am grateful for them but am looking forward to above-freezing weather

Sunday mornings are suppose to be my nice quiet laid back mornings. Time when I drink tea and cruise the internet. Instead I had to wear headphones to block out the sound of my son and husband arguing politics. I wanted to give both of them a time out. They have both since retired to a neutral corner and they both know I am very very very upset with both of them. I am actually looking forward to going to work tomorrow. They both have the day off and I don't want to be around.

It is SO COLD today. I have to admit I've not been too keen on the running this winter. I have cold running gear, but I'm just not feeling it.

Have a great day, Rookies!
