I'm with everyone else, it is a great goal, and as long as you are cleared for take-off, the moon is in your sights!!! Enjoy your first race, especially the environment. Let me know if you get hooked and want to run another:):)

I ran my first 5k like three weeks after I started running. I just walked when I had to and took it easy on the hills. I finished at a 13:00 minute/mile and never felt more proud of myself. You can totally do it! Just listen to your body, walk when you need to, and stick with your training plan. Good luck!

You have eight weeks to get started, and that's a great goal to go for. Even if you don't run the whole 5k, walking it is better than sitting on the couch. See how your first few weeks of training go. I've done many races with some combination of run/wLk intervals, and you will notice lots of others doing the same thing.

Remember to get a clearance from your doctor before starting any exercise program. Once you have that, happy training!

that's a great point, that I don't have to finish it.
That's the dread part of it for me.

I can also go realllly slow, haha!

I absolutely agree with with was said below - go for it!! Just keep in mind to that nobody says you have to run the entire thing...so go at your pace and have a great time!

If you don't have any significant health issues (check with your doctor?!), Just Do it!

Do a Spark search on C25K or Couch to 5K and check out the program they suggest. There are also C25K teams on Spark where you could get some support and encouragement. emoticon

Hi,

I am considering signing up for a 5k race in exactly 8 weeks from today.

The thing is, I am a complete couch potato. I am very sedentary right now. I sit practically all day.

Is it unrealistic for me to attempt to do this 5k? The only reason I am considering it is to force myself to train for it and thus get more active.

Thanks for your feedback!
