Happy New Year's all! I'll be having a small glass of port to ring in the New Year and then straight to bed as I have a 5K in the morning. :D My husband is snoring on the couch beside me - he may not make it to midnight. :D

Good evening. Going to friend's house for New Year's eve, But son bailed to hang with friends and hubby is sleeping right now (5pm). He came home from work not feeling great. So I may be going solo but we will see.

Hey all,
Did nothing that resembles working out unless you include 8 hours of purge and clean at the homestead!! Dang, it is almost 2AM, and I just finished what I wanted to do. Tomorrow my Dad and Susan are arriving, should be a fun New Years.

Bobby and Anne (not Bobby's Anne, although I guess it is if she wants....dang I have no idea what I am saying)....nice to see you guys here.

Mina, hope you get that tooth dealt with for sure!! You will have a blast with your race - adrenaline is a wonderful pain reliever:-)

Bobby, umm, takes? How about a 30 minutes 3 times per week goal? Let's get back to the basics buddy - we both need to get there.

Hugs and love you all,
Trish

Hello to all the new/new-to-me faces. :) Hope everyone had a lovely holiday. I loved getting to see my parents, though getting back home and seeing my fuzzies and my husband and my own bed was wonderful. Now I'm dealing with a toothache - looks like I'm going to need a root canal. Ugh! I see the endodontist for a consult Tuesday. I'll deal until then, but I'm a little concerned about my 5K on Friday (since getting my blood pressure up makes it go thumpa-thumpa and ow). I suppose the worst that will happen is that I walk the whole thing, right?

Nera - glad you didn't get buried. We haven't had anything more than flurries yet and I'm split. One part of me is so hoping for snow, the other is grateful I don't have to drive in it! :D

Doris - hope your husband is doing ok! That sounds painful. I hope you're able to enjoy some of your vacation.

Trish - hope things calm down for you soon. The crazy season is almost over! How's Missy's head doing?

Bobby - glad your blood work came back good. I have a dr appointment later this month and I'm going to ask for blood work to see where I'm at right now/how far I've come and to where I need to get.

CHEPRBYTHEDOZN - yes, it adds your exercise back in. I recommend eating some or all of the calories you burn. You don't want to go under a net 1,200 calories or your body might start hoarding calories and fat.

Carrie - consistency is great! I know I'm trying to be consistent, but it's hard. You can do it!

It's nice to see everybody!

Today I'm getting together with some high school friends - I'm really excited about it.

Got out for a run this morning - they're not long runs lately, but they've become more and more consistent. And that's where I need to be at this point.

Have a great day!

Carrie

Good evening. Our snow storm sort of fizzled out. We only received two inches. I did get a fitbit for Xmas. Just trying to get a base line of what my steps are in a day and so far looks pretty low.

Help. I'm trying to set my new calories goal. When I'm on my 'goals' and macros/calories page... it shows that it's correct as I want it. Then, when I get to my food page, where the actual numbers are that I have eaten, it's 200 calories MORE than what mine is!! What's up? **is it taking my exercise into account? B/c I only burned 164 calories on my walk (or so it says).

Hi everyone:) Its nice to see some old, familiar faces have returned! Glad to see that folks had a good Christmas. It was just DH and I (and the cat) as we are in another marina, waiting for good weather to cross the gulf stream to the Bahamas. Well, that was our orignal intent. Got here and discovered that our house bank of battieries is on its last leg. We bought new batteries and DH planned to install them. Then, he slipped and caught himself from falling. Now, we are here waiting for his orthopedic appointment Thursday afternoon to see if he needs immediate surgery or if we can wait at least one month. He has completely torn a tendon in his shoulder and it is already retracting away and he tore two others partially. Yuck!!! I am hoping that we can wait a month as our daughter is flying to the Bahamas in two weeks for a vacation..... At least I have been able to get in some running!

Life is fragile. Love, laugh and enjoy.

HI!!!! How are ya'll??? I'm doing great-my kids are growing up (one is getting married in May!!) and my baby is already 2 1/2!! (with none on the way-first times for everything). Running is spotty but only b/c my chiro is treating me for adrenal issues and said, "NO RUNNING. " Well, that' s impossible but I do lots of walking when I do run. :)
I'm hoping to check in more often-

Hi folks! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.
7 yrs ago I joined spark and went from fat to fit but due to lack of focus, lack of caring about myself, stress, deaths, health issues and a crappy life in general lately i have put it all back on. My wife has been my strength this whole time maybe she can support me to get fit again but first I have to want it because if you don't truly want the new life it will never happen. Hoping that my 2016 is better than 14 and 15 was...

So to my old spark buddies have a Happy New Year and my all your dreams become reality in 2016.

We are waiting for a big snow storm to start. It has taken all day to move in from Iowa. Last forecast said 11 inches when it finishes tomorrow night. It should be an interesting driving day tomorrow.

The holidays were quiet and very restful. No drama which was very very nice. My son made me scones to go with my Jane Austen tea I got for Christmas. I loved spending Christmas day at home with just my hubby and son.

Hi guys. Long time no see. I miss you guys, like A LOT! I'm nursing a hip flexor injury, but trying to increase strength and flexibility as it heals. I'm walking for the foreseeable future until I feel ready to take on running again. It's so awesome to see old friends still yakking it up in here.

Very cool that you are back in the groove!! I'm looking at a 5k Resolution run as well, have to walk a bunch of it, but getting it done is the most important.

Hope you guys had a wonderful holiday! I drove up to my parents' house. I had a lovely time, but am so glad to be home. I had two "over" days - Christmas eve and today. My TOM started today and I drove over six hours and, well, I couldn't stop eating. But I'm back in my routine tomorrow and looking forward to it!

I have a 5K race New Year's day. I wish it had stayed warm for one more week, but I'm going to have to run in the cold. I'm still looking forward to the race!

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!

My mom, brother, and SIL are coming to visit today. It's a dreary day, but it's supposed to be not too cold.

Have a great day!

Merry Christmas everyone!!

We had a great day today...except for the fact that Monkey decided to start waking us up at 3 AM after I hit the hay at 1:30....yeah, NOOO! He bought me a new cell phone case, and was trying to find my phone to put it on. Yikes!! Finally at 7:00 I managed to convince him to climb into bed with me, and he fell asleep in less than a minute! Missy came in around 8:15, and I told her to let Monkey sleep. So around 9:30 we got up. Had a fun time with pressies, then hit my sis's place for dinner.

All around a wonderful day!

Hope you all had a great day!!

Almost ready for Christmas...LOL, ok, NOT! Missy managed to pinch a nerve in her neck, so is in a lot of pain today. Couple that with a really bad cold, and she is a VERY unhappy teenager.

Josh spent the past 3 days up at Big White (our local ski hill), and had a really great time. He is back now, and doesn't want to help out around the house...mwaahaaahaaa, we have ways to make him comply:-)

Tomorrow I have to finish shopping, then wrapping, then head to my girlfriends house for Christmas eve.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas...Hugs and love to you guys from me and my family!

I have never had clotted cream. Always sounded kind of nasty when I would read it in a book. LOL!!!! My work adopted two military families for Christmas. This last weekend I got to go out and spend almost $400 on toys and gift cards. Trust me that was a lot of fun. LOL!!!!

I LOVE that show! We're lucky enough to have an amazing tea place run by an ex-pat Brit within an hour's drive. I used to go a couple times a month, but scones with clotted cream and jam and tea with milk and sugar and beef pasties with mushy peas aren't exactly on my menu these days. Hmm... I think I know what I'm doing for my next birthday splurge. Ok, now I'm hungry! Ha!

Not much cooking for me for the holidays. We go to my SIL for xmas eve and I usually have to bring a cheese plate. Then we have people over on Xmas but I put a roast in the crock pot and everyone brings the sides. But this year the hubby doesn't want anyone over on Xmas or go anywhere so we are going to have a lounge around Xmas day. After all the running and chaos of Thanksgiving that sounds quite nice. So I will save one of my few allowed cups of tea for Xmas morning and we are making scones. We kind of got hooked on the great british baking show and my son and I thought we could handle making scones. Most of the other stuff no way would I even attempt it but boy I would love to go to England for tea. They have some great pastries over there. LOL!!!!

CStream, safe travels! Hopefully you'll still be able to pop in here from time to time.

Nera, I know what you mean - drama online can be pretty ugly. Thankfully I've yet to meet an unkind person here on SparkPeople. We've got your back!

I'm sooo close to being ready for the holidays. I have a TON of cooking to do this week, though. My fingers are crossed that it'll be as dead at work this week as it was the week before Thanksgiving so I can get stuff done during the day.

Hello team. We are planning on departing for points south and east either Tuesday or Wednesday. Gotta go when the going is good.....
Have been running, time is getting better but my hips are sore today. Hmmm, I have not had this problem before so I hope it's just a stretch and rest issue..
Happy Sunday all

I am a little leary and weary from past online encounters which is why I deleted most of my post. I always thought I was amusing but the world lately has been telling me not so much. LOL!!!

Kirsten I am going to check out that blog. If you have any other links that talk about it or has exercises other than the good old keigels please post them. I am an information junkie. As GI Joe use to say- now you know and knowing is half the battle.

Wow I just read her blog and she is getting a way different treatment than I am. I got nothing but some hand outs and told to do one kind of keigels 3-5 times a day.

I'm all for talking about health issues publicly - I think it's brave to talk about something that might be considered taboo or embarrassing because it normalizes it and tells others with the same issue that they're not alone.

I decided not to sign up for that half, but I am pushing myself. I was talking with my brother and he was right - get where I want to be on 5K, then expand to 10K, and on up. Trying to jump ahead in the progression could lead to injury and/or burnout and that I don't want. Thanks for the advice & encouragement on this.

I did have a great workout tonight. I did 2.93 miles at an average of 17:45/mile. I've been working really hard to get under 18 minutes a mile, so this was a real triumph for me! Once I can reliably stay under 18 I'll work on upping it to 17. :D

Great that your son showed such sportsmanship, Trish! That must have been tough for him to chill out and get back in the zone, but sounds like he did it!

Yeah, it's really picking up in popularity. I guess women are tired of just accepting this sort of situation and we're creating a demand for solutions.

I love the Huff post blogger who talks about her experience of pelvic floor rehab. She's a little, um, blunt? at times, and has a wicked sense of humour, but I think there is a lot of good info in her blogs.

I'm working on starting a group treatment program here in Peterborough. We don't have anyone doing it locally, and I have a *lot* of clients, and friends, who need the help.

Nope just plain keigels. After my internet research I thought I would get other exercises but except for maybe doing some biofeedback down the road keigels were the only exercise offered. I was told to cut out caffeine and today I did. Dang it a dry day. Hate when doctors are right. LOL!!!! My therapist thought we should know in a month if we were on the right track and 6 months to get the pelvic muscles back to a decent strength. She did say I would have to do maintnence keigels probably for the rest of my life. Since I can't see giving up tea forever this will always be a balancing act I guess.

Just to show you how new this is my health system has one therapist that does this and she only works 4 days a week. Hard to schedule appointments. I was suppose to have a follow up in a week but she was booked and then she was out of town the week after that. So much for that treatment plan.

Pelvic floor problems are suuuuuuper common, Nera, I wish people would talk about it more! Bladder, uterus or rectal prolapse happen to half of all women who have had children; maybe more since many people think these problems are a normal part of the aging process. A good friend of mine does pelvic floor rehab, so I'm very familiar. As a nurse (think: I see the end of the trajectory...), I can assure you that any action you can take today to slow or reverse the process is worth the effort! I'm so glad to hear that you are seeing pt before a surgeon.

They're not still doing plain kegels are they? I hope you are getting more than that. It takes commitment to get in shape and then a little bit of effort to maintain, but I've seen some pretty incredible reversals. I hope you have good results.

Well it is 8:30am in the morning and I am drinking tea and having a stay at home day because I had an early morning PT appt. This might be one of my last cups of tea because it seems tea and coffee and chocolate are bladder irritants and until I get my issue taken care of it will slow down the process. I have one of the easier issues to fix just weak and I mean really weak pelvic muscles.

Removed most of this post. Decided even trying to be as family friendly as possible it was a post most people wouldn't want to read. Sorry guys I tend to type first and think later.

Good Morning, Y'all!
emoticon

Doris, One word, Fruit! You can always get fresh fruit at any port. That's slowly become my go to for snacks and desserts. I've sailed from DC to Newport & Miami. It was always easy to store fruit.
emoticon

Trish, I'm feelin' ya! Our kids are the priority. The time invested pays off in their future development, mentally & physically. I'm not with Gianna 24/7 like you are with your kidlets but I know time flies in the time invested. I commend all parents who focus on the children! Good on ya for sneakin' in a lil' exrecise time!
emoticon

Mina, I'm not keen on doing a Half with a required 14 min pace. (that translates to a 3:03;35 Half) I don't believe you should have that type of stress doing your first Half.
I did my first Half in Jan 2012. I had done 15 5Ks with a PR of 37:44 (12:07 pace) at that time. (PR to date is 28:04.) The ceiling pace for the St Pete RocknRoll was an 18 min mile. I was so worried. I trained to 10 miles. I completed it in 3:10:32, (14.33 pace). I had been maintaining my goal weight for a year. I was still learning to run. I walked the first 10 miles and jogged the last 3.1! (PR to date is 2:15:00)
What I'm saying is there shouldn't be any added stress at your first Half. You want to come out of it injury free (mentally & physically) and with a fun experience. THAT will bring you back to your NEXT Half. I say train for a Half to FINISH at YOUR goal time. Speed comes later.
emoticon

Everyone! Stay Strong and embrace challenge!

Hi all. Glad to hear the chicks are doing well. Josh really has a great sense of sportsmanship, reason to be very proud of him!
I say train for the half marathon. You can only win, even if you don't qualify. My first half I did a combination of walk/run. I finished last but it felt pretty damned good!
We are hoping to head to the Bahamas in about a week, maybe less. We are waiting to see how our friend Joe does. He had another (5th) surgery Wednesday. He has a long road to recovery but he will get there. Kinda want to hang around until he goes home.
Happy Sunday all

Hey guys,
Sorry I haven't been here this week. It has been a toughy. Missy's ringette game yesterday was ermmm, pretty good. They didn't come out to play at the beginning, but finished strong...a 3-3 tie.

Josh's game today, ummmm, he didn't have his head in it, and allowed 4 really weak goals to start it off. To his credit, and I am one proud mama for it, he didn't get mad, he just worked to let it roll off his back. We won the game 8-6...even the ugly ones matter:-)

Did a 6km rrrwalk during the warmup time. Hopefully tomorrow will be a fun crossfit one.

Hugs,
Trish

Wow sailing to the Bahama's sounds wonderful!

Training for a 1/2 marathon would be a challenge and really you would win either way as your exercise and health would improve even if your time does not get you in (but you'll never know if you don't try)

I'm working hard at finishing up all my decorating and cooking for our Christmas party this Saturday-we are expecting over 30 people and we do the fun white elephant gift exchange too. Wish me luck! Take care all and keep walking/running a little further each day.

Hmm... I couldn't go without my breakfast bars. I'm... ahem... "not at my best" in the mornings and if I didn't have quick, healthy, portion-controlled breakfast I'd totally pig out.

I think it's funny you're having trouble adjusting to the flats - I've found that I can actually *run* when my treadmill is at zero incline, whereas it's much harder for me when it's at even 1% or 2%. I did have a great workout yesterday - I managed 5K in 56 minutes, which means just shy of 18 minute miles on average! While most people probably think that's turtle-slow, it's three minutes faster than my last time! :D

I'm also having the absolutely INSANE desire to start training for a half-marathon that's in a nearby town in May. To qualify/make the course time I'd have to be able to run 14-minute miles or better and keep that speed for four times as long as I'm going right now. I'm wondering if it would be possible for me to get there by then. It's soooo tempting, but soooo intimidating.

HI all. In have not been exercising regularly for the past few weeks but I think I am back on track. For some weird reason I had no problems running hills in NH but had a hard time adjusting to flat FL. Go figure......
Anyway, we have begun the prep work for a sail to the Bahamas. Everything is VERY expensive, if you could find what you are looking for. I have a freezer and a small refrigerator. We know what to buy and store for meals but is there anyone thing you could not go months without? I think it will be good to not have access to chocolate:) I am looking for ideas for snacks mostly.

Yes the number one rider has made 6 million dollars in his career. Of course they pay a pretty big physical price. Most bull riders have chronic injuries that affect them even after they stop riding.

Okay brace yourself it is an incredibly boring and minor fact. I said bull riders who ride in the PBR Built Ford Tough Series make more money than bull riders who ride in the PRCA Wrangler series. I know how more 5th grade can you get. But it was more her attitude towards me and treating me like a piece of poo than the actually disagreeing with me. I am use to people saying I am wrong then we have a google off and we laugh because sometimes we are all wrong. In this case I was right. It isn't even close. Top rider of PRCA has made $115K this year. Top 5 riders of the PBR have made this year 1.3 million down to a quarter of a million dollars. So since this all so 5th grade I am now sticking out my tongue. LOL!!!!

I used to love our Encyclopedia Britannicas! Now I'm a total Googler, though. My friend and I often will disagree about something and we'll whip out our phones and see who can come up with the answer first. lol!

I had a great run today - as there was actual, yanno, *running* involved. :D I find that if I put the incline at 0 I can run for minutes at a time at about 4 mph. I know, I know, move over Usain Bolt. ;p But it's progress and I'm excited. I'm annoyed at myself, though, as I'm not sure exactly how far/fast I went. I knocked that little magnet thing off TWICE during my run and it stops the treadmill and wipes out the time/distance. I guesstimated, but I think I went faster than I calculated (wanting to be conservative). Well, Friday I'll try it again and see if I can get a more accurate time.

Hope everyone's well!

LOL Nera,
That was one random post|:-) Yep, people need to just get the fact that they don't know everything. I google a lot, if I don't know things, the internet gives me the answers. Not like when I was young, and actually had to work for the answers...

Even my kidlets talk about how I say "google it" a lot. I had a set of Encyclopedia Britanica up until last year...I actually wish I never got rid of it as it says a lot about our history.

Nothing done today, tomorrow have to get a bunch of house cleaning, then get ready to go down to the coast for Monkey's tournament. Missy's concussion is still not playing nice...she may, or may not play this weekend.

Gotta fly, love you guys!

Yes family a never ending source of therapy bills. LOL!!!! The really stupid thing is this "argument" was over a matter of fact. Something easily googled and easily determined who was right or wrong. A fact I proved when I got home and got access to google. It took less than 5 minutes to determine I was indeed correct. But there are people who won't admit when they are wrong. They are never wrong their opponets are stupid or crazy or ridiculous. There is a smallness to their lives and attitudes they are not aware of. It reminds me again why I left my small home town as soon as I could. Not everyone who lives in a small town is this way but it is hard to avoid them in such a small population. I find many things fascinating. I get curious about the weirdest things and I like to satisfy that curiousity if possible and with google it usually is. LOL!!! I have read books on history, biogrophy , weird forgotten events in history. If it is obscure and basically useless knowlege then it is very likely I have read a book about it. LOL!!!!!

Ah, family. They can be such a source of joy, but for many of us they're just a source of heartache. My husband's family & I are not speaking right now. Not only am I sick to death of them pretending my husband doesn't exist (seriously - found out they were doing a "family" Thanksgiving with everyone except us last year when they responded to our invitation to have them over to our house for the day), but they've never really liked me. We have some serious philosophical differences and I'm just too weird for them - geeky, loud, and opinionated. *shrug* Then there's the relationship with my family - we love each other, but again I just don't fit in with them. I find distance is just healthier.

Besides, I have a great "chosen" family of a few close people I adore and who grok me and my husband. They actually like us and vice versa.

Thanksgiving was good. We had some of the aforementioned friends over and had a blast. Need to have them over again soon with less to do than is necessary for a Turkey Day feast. I don't feel we hardly had time to geek out over knitting or tv shows or anything. :)

Ugh, Nera, that sounds just awful! I hate family conflict!!! I have to say, managing conflict and *ahem* ignorant people is a strong suit of mine, but I still hate it. It's harder the closer you are to the perpetrator, I think. Why do people have to resort to personal attacks? What's wrong with a little... 'I see your point, but I have to say, I disagree,' 'Oh, I hadn't thought about it like that, but I can appreciate where you're coming from.' 'I don't really feel the same way, but I respect your opinion.' 'I have really strong feelings about this issue and this conversation is uncomfortable for me. Can we talk about something else? How are things for you at school/work/blah blah blah....'

I just don't understand why respect isn't a more highly valued character trait in our society. It's so important!! People sometimes get down on Canadians for being "polite" but most of the "polite" people I know - American, Canadian, Taiwanese, Zimbabwean... are respectful, not polite.

*steps down from soap box.*

Thanks guys for the support. I wish I was better at letting things go. I have been working hard trying to put this behind me but it has been a bit tough. I did on saturday go shopping with my one sister who isn't a jerk. She asked me if she should have done something differently. I said yes it would have been nice if just one person had told them to put a sock in it. It is all so 5th grade and I hate it.

Today the weather man goofed and my morning commute was much tougher than expected. But coming home from work was great. Now it is snowing again so tomorrow morning again will be awful. At one point I was stuck on compacted snow that was very slick on a slight incline due to a stoplight. I beg my car to get moving again and luckily with some finesse of the gas pedal and turning of the wheel it found a little bit of traction and I could take move again. But I think I will put kitty litter in my trunk for next time. That was a very scary minute when it just sat there and spun it's tires. My car is orange color and I call it pumpkin. So I was like Pumpkin baby pleaaasssee go oh please!!!!. Then when it did get going I patted it on the dashboard and said who's a good pumpking? Your a good little pumpkin. My hubby thinks I am silly but I have talked to almost every car I have ever owned and they haven't left me stuck or stranded yet. LOL!!!

Hey all,
Today Missy, Josh and I chillaxed for most of it. Monkey and I went to watch The Hunger Games Catching Fire Pt2...it was a REALLY great pic. After, we got some pizza etc, and headed home. Josh and I were supposed to do a workout today, but it didn't happen - hopefully we do better tomorrow:-)

Nera, I am sorry that you have family that thinks it's ok to treat you poorly. Sheesh.
Thanksgiving was good. Went to some cousins and had a great visit. I had one piece of pie and a bite or two of each dish. The only thing I ate a " normal" portion of was turkey. I did eat many mashed potatos though.
Hope everyone has a good work week. Kirsten, fingers crossed for you and baby. Hope he better ASAP. At least he shouldn't have chronic sore throat.

Yesterday was a day of vegging out and sewing. My one sister who is the only family member I seem to be speaking to is trying to play nice. But sorry I am tired of family right now. The sun is shinning and snow is sparkling it is so pretty out. These are the days where I wish my sewing room was upstairs with a window. LOL!!!

Kirsten I bet you had an amazing interview. I am glad that things are finally moving in the right direction. It is always hard to see our little ones in pain. Well mine isn't so little any more but I still hate to see him hurting.

I did go to my Mom's for thanksgiving. Travel was okay for the most part. I just had a run in with my niece towards the end of the day. It is a hard thing to admit about someone who shares some genetic material with you but I must face the truth. She is not a very smart person or a very nice person. She ridicules what she doesn't understand(which is quite a lot since books and education were never her thing) and if you present actual facts to her then she makes personal attacks and makes fun of you. So I am thankful I don't have to see her again until Christmas and I may not even go. Between her and my oldest sister they made it quite clear that I am just a laughing stock to the rest of the family.

By the time all of us made it home(my husband and son had to play driver to a couple of elderly relatives on my hubby's side and it two hours to get everyone home) we were all a little battle weary. So we watched Aliens. I was told it was an action/horror movie but there wasn't that much action. Then we watched Dispicable Me 2 which was pretty good. We spent about 4 hours last night all sitting on the couch watching tv and being on our laptops together. Today I would love to go walking but it is cold, snowy and slick out and the malls are crazy due to black friday. Maybe later today it will either warm up a smidge or the malls will thin out. I plan to do some sewing as I have a quilt top I am in the middle of doing.

Hey Rooks!

Today I am pretty sore, but managed a 45 minute wog. Tomorrow I am going to try to get outside and get something done. It will be -10 C, but I think it will be good for me. Josh and I are going to do day 2 of our weird and wild workout. It will be a fun one:-)

Kirsten, so glad the surgery went well, and that the crisis was dealt with well:-) Praying for a great result from your interview. I tip my hat to you as I have NO idea how I would have functioned in an interview after the night you have.

Gotta fly, monkey has to hit the hay:-)

Hugs,
Trish

How's everyone doing today?

So, my baby got through his surgery very well yesterday. He had a little crisis with swelling a couple hours after, but it was dealt with and he was very, very brave. He took a turn for the worse during the night. Spiked a fever, started vomiting... generally looked like he was getting an infection. He was up and down all night and through the morning. He's getting better and sleeping now. But, I didn't have a chance to get mentally ready (barely got dressed in time!) for my interview today and I was really anxious about him while I was out. It was in another town, an hour away. I think it went well. Who knows? There were three people and they all seemed receptive. It's a 'we'll let you know after the interview process is over next week' situation. Oh well. Nothing more I can do now. Fingers crossed!

I hope my American friends are having a lovely Thanksgiving.

If you go to my sparkpage I have a few pictures of quilts in my photos. Most of my quilt pictures are on my facebook page. If I can figure out a way to move them over to here I will.

Tough day at work due to being so tired and tomorrow being a holiday. Still don't know if the weather will let me travel. I guess when I wake up in the morning is when I make the decision.

So, apparently selecting email notification doesn't work anymore for me:(. Not sure why, any ideas?
Nera, I would love to see pix of your quilts. Hope the weather cooperates for you tomorrow.
Kirsten, I hope your dizziness and weird ear thingie get better ASAP! Good luck on the job interview. I hope you get it:)
Mina, when we lived in a house I had a treadmill. Had a love-hate relationship with it in the winter and in the dark.
Trish, I hope Missy's concussion resolves itself quickly. I had a pretty severe concussion when I was a teen, people told me what happened because I don't remember. I do remember throwing up for days afterward! As a result, I now get migraines. At least that is what the Drs told me is the cause of the migraines. Yuck! Hope Miss has no long term issues.
Got a run in this morning. Not my fastest or prettiest, but I got it done:)

Hey all,

Today was pretty much a write off....I need to figure out the whole keeping the mojo going thing. I know, this has been my mantra for way too long. Missy is feeling better, she was at school for 3.5 hours today, tomorrow she is going to try to do the day. We will see - tonight her head hurt quite a lot, and if that happens tomorrow, she has to shut it down.

Kirsten, I'm so glad you aren't getting sick all day anymore, glad that your peops feel your worth, that is AMAZING!! It is a testament to your doc that he is so ubber supportive, something went wrong, and he is stepping up and making sure he stands beside you...I pray your little one gets through his surgery well tomorrow, and NEVER has to feel the sore throat pain again:-) OHMYGOSH!! What an amazing opportunity, I am praying like crazy for you to get this job as you sooooo deserve it!!

Sorry, gotta fly,

Hugs and love,
Trish

Kirsten glad to hear that things are better or at least you are getting use to it being out of kilter. I am glad you have such a great doctor. Let's hope things heal quickly so you can get this fixed.

Weather here may be an issue here for Thanksgiving. Some rain/snow/sleet combo which means the time at my mom's may be very short. One excuse my mom does except is bad weather because she hates driving in it so if I call and say I don't trust the roads she won't be upset with me.

Kristen - that's so nice to hear that the dizziness is getting better. I hope it continues to improve and that your surgeon is able to fix it soonest. At least the surgeon is on top of making things tolerable in the meantime. Lots of good luck on the interview!

Oh, I'd love to see pictures of your quilts Neraus. I quilt a very little (most of my crafting time goes into knitting) and it's lots of fun. One thing I loved last Spring was stumbling on this little museum I didn't even know was there and they had an exhibit of about 30 mid-19th century quilts. They were fascinating to look at.

It's great to hear about what everyone's doing for Thanksgiving. I've started getting the house ready, which means tons of cleaning, and I've started cooking anything that can be cooked ahead of time. I've got a really tight timeline Thursday since I'm doing the Turkey Trot in the morning and guests coming early afternoon.

If I'm not able to get on here is post before then, I hope everyone has a lovely Thanksgiving!

Um. I am SURE I posted while I was in Ottawa a couple days ago - where did it go? *sigh*

Trish, so sorry to hear about your bigger little. Concussions are so scary, especially these days. Is she still having symptoms? Such a burden for an active girl. :o(

Mina, great news about the dreadmill. It's my lifeline in the winter. I've logged so many miles on that thing - really got my money's worth. I like to watch videos while I run on the mill. Passes the time.

Nera, I LOVE modern AND funky! I'd love to see some pictures of your quilts someday. Even today! The palliative care unit I used to work in had hand made quilts with matching patient gowns and pillow cases. A local group made them and added one or two every year. We absolutely loved being able to wrap our patients in love, and it made the rooms more homey, less hospitally. With all the hours and effort that go into them, making quilts for charity is such a lovely gesture.

Doris, you're going to be in the Bahamas for the winter? GREAT idea. Can I stow away?

So, I guess since my post disappeared, you don't have my update! I am a bit better. Still off-balance but not spinning any longer. I've accommodated to the dizziness so I can walk reasonably well and I'm not throwing up (6x a day) any more. You'll appreciate this Doris - it's like walking on a rocking boat.

I started back to work, with difficulty, but it's helping me get used to my 'new' view of the world. My jobs missed me, apparently. Two of them presented me with gift baskets when I got back and my little client (she's 8 years old now) was SOOOOO giggly and snuggly - I had trouble getting her to go to sleep at night! Her mom said she was worried the kid was getting depressed while I was away. :o( My poor Little.

My hearing is pretty much gone in the operative ear. The surgeon thinks the prosthetic has slipped. It's likely putting pressure on a tiny opening in the inner ear, which is causing the ongoing dizziness. Either that or something is ruptured or punctured or broken. He won't know for sure till he opens 'er up again in another couple of months. Nera, you asked why wait? The ear is extremely delicate and he can't operate again until the eardrum and other structures have completely healed from the first surgery. He's nearly as crestfallen as I am that the surgery didn't work (and added this complication to my life). He phones me to check on me, sees me whenever I need treatment (when I get the spins he does something called the Epley maneuver, to make them go away!), even in the middle of a surgery day at the hospital... he's been super supportive. We ALL wish there was something he could do about this.

My little guy is having his tonsils out tomorrow (same surgeon!!) eek. I'm nervous about how much pain he's going to be in afterwards; he's excited that he won't have a sore throat every day any more. (my poor baby!!!!)

Finally, (long update, sorry), I have a job interview this week for my PERFECT job. Staff nurse (2 or 3 days a week, so I can still do my Master's research!!!) in an organization for kids who have mental health or addiction issues. It's in a variety of settings - home, group residential, foster, adoptive and reunited families. This job blends together all of the things I love - kids, families, parenting behaviour, mental health, education/teaching, and supporting people with challenges to live GREAT lives. I'm unreasonably excited about this.

Wow, that was long.

Here's hoping you all have a lovely day and a fantastic week. I've missed you guys!!!!

Great news on the treadmill. I have had two(one died) and I found both of them on craiglist. I finally have a quilting project I am excited about. Plus maybe found a charity group to make quilts for. After I once made a quilt for a charity and they didn't want it kind of leery of trying again. My modern funky style is not for everyone I guess.

Trish sorry to hear Missy is still having symptoms. I hope she gets better soon.

Hey everyone!

Today Monkey had a game in Salmon Arm...he did really well, and the team learned a valuable lesson about how to control the defensive zone. Missy is still dealing with concussion symptoms, tomorrow she will try school for a couple of hours, and we will know where she is.

Mina, AWESOME about the dreadmill:-) Enjoy it my friend!

Doris, sounds like a fun Thanksgiving for you:-) Winter to the Bahamas? Very cool, looking forward to hearing about your voyages.

Hugs all,
Trish

Imanaged to get unsubbed too. Sheesh.
Anyway, I've been home for a week now. Got in two lousy runs and two days of strength. At least I got it done!
We are going to my cousins house for Thanksgiving. It should be fun as I haven't spent much time with them in the last few years. After that, we start prepping the boat for our winter journey to the Bahamas:). I'm getting excited.
Happy work week all.

Hi all! Popping in for a few minutes. I'm around, just been busy and not here quite as much as I'd like. I am really excited today - I'm getting a treadmill! I found one on Craigslist and, if it is as advertised, it's a great deal. So I'll be more able to run and walk despite the weather. The cold just saps my motivation because I know my chest will hurt and I'll be coughing for an hour or more after.

Trish - Hope Missy's concussion is better soon. Ouch! Sorry to hear your friend is unwell.
Neraus - what a lovely Thanksgiving. Glad you got to spend a day together with your family.
Doris - Yay for your dad & brother doing better. I bet it's nice to be home - nothing like sleeping in your own bed.
Monty - we all have something going on, that's for sure!
Kristen - how's your ear? Are you feeling better?

Good evening:-)

Today was pretty much a nothing done one. Oh well, not everyday can be a good one I guess. Josh is not getting any training in ringette on his team, so I am contemplating having him practice with teams that have goalie training programs. We will see... Missy still has a really bad headache, so will not be doing much of anything for another week.

My friend is still feeling like cwap, but at least is moving towards getting better.

Gotta fly,
Love ya,
Trish

Oh man Trish that is rough for your friend.

I am down today but I think it is because it has been raining pretty much non stop for over three days. Hard to keep your spirits up when it is so gloomy.

My son made the turkey his work gave him for thanksgiving. I was pleasantly surprised it turned out quite well and my kitchen was not trashed out. We all cleaned up afterwards. My hubby finished carving the turkey, my son put left overs away and I did dishes. Then we had some pumpkin pie. An early but nice Thanksgiving together since on the actual day we are going to different places.

Weird, I posted here last night, but it didn't actually take:-(

Oh well, Missy has a concussion, and is in the dark for at least a week...dang, 2 now, so we have to be pretty darned careful. I sat at the hospital with my dear friend yesterday - she had some abdominal pain, and ended up having surgery to remove a 5 cm mass from one of her ovaries, and another 4 cysts from other areas, along with a bunch of lesions. In a couple of months, she is going to have her uterus removed, also likely part of her intestines. Holy CWAP, we need to make sure we are vigilant with our preventative care!

Doris, nice about your Dad....he rocks!! Too bad your run was a toughy, just another rough run...tomorrow will better!!

If all you get is all you give, then you should only give all you''ve got.
