Great link I'm a novice as well to jogging

I know personally when my shoes get worn out I have problems with my feet and hips once I replace with new shoes the pain goes away so maybe your shoes need to be replaced but like the others said maybe a little to much to soon I tried ot push myself to fast & far to soon and experienced some slight pain

you said you have running shoes but have you been fitted properly at a specialty running store not a big box store. they will look at the way you walk/ run, check the wear on your current shoes and fit you in a proper shoe for your type of pronation. this is very important first step towards running.

i agree with judi also, you need to start off much slower and allow your body to adapt to the stress of running / walking

The link above is actually the whole running centre here at SparkPeople. There is very good information in there.

The training plan is one of the first links on the page, and called "5K Your Way Training Plans".

Keep us updated.

No problems with being a novice - we were definitely all there at one time!

I'm thinking that you tried too much too soon, which would give you aches and pains. But if your shoes are not right for your running stride, that will also give you grief, which is why it is important to get fitted, as Nancy suggested.

I will go and get the link for a running program that will help you ease into it, without over taxing the body. Millins of people, including me, have used these types of programs to help them start into the sport of running.

Also, if you haven't been running, 45 minutes is maybe too much. What are your run/walk ratios, as in how many minutes are you walking and running?

Hi WILLFAN,

Have you been fitted for running shoes? Are you running on a slight (1/2-1% incline)?
