Carrie, that is awesome about the runs!! I decided not to run today. My legs are sore after not running for 2 weeks due to being sick and then running 2 days in a row. I'm not going to push them today. And tomorrow I have my volunteer gig with the 1st graders that starts early in the morning so no run tomorrow either. I end the month of January with 81.1 miles. Short of my planned 100 miles but that's what happens when you get sick and can't run. That's also called life :) Suezette

Good morning all!
I am thisclose to having 50 miles run for the month. I'm so thrilled - typically during the winter my runs kind of stop and I have to re-start back in the spring. I'm really excited to see how my races are going to improve this season. I did 3 miles at my mom's house yesterday and averaged a 10:14 pace. I think 2013 might be the year where I try to break a 30:00 5K...?!? Carrie

Hello there! ran a chilly 6kms (like -32C) tonight. It felt super awesome.
Now, on the other hand, I'm exhausted. I hope I'm not getting what Roo had. I have two more days of bus driving, both days on a new route, as a substitute driver. I can't afford to get sick. I'm already filling in for the driver that was filling in..... ***Penny***

I vote to keep the tooth as well......
We are renting my parent's house for the winter while they live in their Florida house. The boat will be making the crossing (with 5 crew) in May. I am thinking that we will be stopping in Bermuda, about half-way home for a day or two to re-provision, do laundry, get away from each other, etc. Weather permitting, it should take about 14 days. Migraine is mostly gone. The horrible pain and nausea are gone but I still feel it behind my eye. I get ocular migraines, my eyeball feels like someone is inside my head and trying to poke my eye out. Sheesh. Life is fragile. Love, laugh and enjoy.

I vote for keeping the tooth too. Loosing it can cause the other teeth to shift which could affect your bite. But I know what it is like not to have dental insurance. I just got back from my 6 months check up tonight. Beinb a borderline dentaphobe makes every visit anxiety ridden.
|
|
Anne, I thought about it a little bit more. I'm pretty sure even without dental insurance, I'd still try to save the tooth. Yes, I'm a bit obsessed with my teeth........

I would save the tooth if at all possible. But I am fanatical about having all my teeth. (but, I have dental insurance. I'm sure if I didn't, it might be a different story.)
There are only 2 things I do EVERY YEAR since my early 20s..... Get my teeth cleaned twice a year and have any fillings, etc, fixed. And, get my mammogram. Ever since they found something in my breast while in my 20s, I've been getting them checked every year!! Guess I don't want to lose my teeth or my breast..... Yay Suezette!
Judi-hope you aren't sick! Doris-ouch...I used to get horrible migraines. I no longer get them very bad...just a little inkling of them now and then. Thank goodness! I hope yours is gone. So I have had a sore gum issue for the last week. Was hoping it was a sinus issue since I had all the cold/flu viruses. Nope. So finally went to my dentist today. (By the way, I look like half a chipmunk..on the right side). He checked my teeth...no cavities. But unfortunately I have a root canal that failed. Apparently, the root canal I had 13 years ago (REALLY? Doesn't seem that long ago as I remember it vividly) has let bacteria in causing an infection. I am on antibiotics and dentist wants me to see a specialist to see if said specialist can save it. If not then my dentist will pull it. He explained if I had to lose a tooth this is the one to lose. Last molar. So my question was... If this tooth is ok to be without, why not just pull it and save myself thousands of dollars??? Another root canal (or the fixing of said failed root canal) will probably cost around $1000. Then I think I would need another crown which would be another $300-$700. Pulling it will cost me around $50. Gee...which should I do? Bobby still wants me to see the specialist but I am more on the pulling side. No dental insurance sucks!! Oh well...enough whining. But I sure hope the antibiotics work quickly! My runs have been quite painful this past week. Later Anne
You will never find time for anything. You must make it. I am now who I always wanted to be!

|
Finally ran! 3.1 miles and not much coughing! I needed that!
I have 77 miles for the month so far. I wanted 100 but getting sick really took the wind out of my sails! Wasn't able to run for almost 2 weeks, except with my marathon thrown in there but that was more of a *just get through it* then anything else..... Suezette

Enjoying the winter weather. Spent the weekend at a state part--got in some cross-country skiing, but mostly watched movies and played cards with friends. This was our 15th consecutive year of our "girls winter get-away." Time is flying by. Should be able to get in some running this week; temps are supposed to moderate. Yay!!
Judi--glad you had a wonderful vacation. They are so important to our mental health. John--I dream of the day when 13.1 miles is just a run. Some dreams are meant to stay dreams--and for me, this is one will stay just a dream. Can't wait to meet you at The Flying Pig. These SparkPeople meet ups are what keep me running. Carrie--give it your best at the gym this week. Trish--glad Don was feeling better. Hope you are remembering to take care of yourself. Have a great week, all. John, for sure that will be a special meet up of SparkPeople. I came away from last year's in PA thinking that it had to be one of the best weekends of my life. It was so wonderful to meet so many people in person.
Penny, we are all getting old LOL. It's just that some of us (not me) also have a toddler to run after. Doris, hope your migraine eases soon. Welcome home. Is home on the boat, or do you have a place again? Rich, that was a good explanation for where you are today. I love that we are all in such different places, and can still cheer each other on. Trish, how did the coaching go? Was there enough energy /stamina for it to be enjoyable for Don? How are you hon? Your comment about focus on him makes me think there is more going on with you. Big hugs! Carrie - yes the body is very wise. Glad you are feeling better finally. I ran just over six miles this morning. I'm not sure what's going on now, but I have a heck of a headache. Hope it's not the flu. I've avoided it so far this winter. Oil of oregano!

Rich, FWIW I read your comment exactly as you intended it. I was not thinking you were belittling the distance at all. I remember when I was in training for my full. The day I ran 16 miles I cried the entire last mile. The day I ran 22 miles, I was measuring my "mailboxes" in 5k's. I understand how perspectives change based on individual fitness levels. The thing I like about Rookie Runners is that we all respect each other regardless of where we are in the journey.

Good morning all!
Another glorious day in the Land of the Frozen Arse. Today I feel totally ready to get back to the gym - I guess I really needed that rest week, mentally as well as physically. It's funny how your body just *knows* when it can go back and is like "ok you, time to go." And you just go. Today is a short run and some upper body. Gotta get those guns ready for sleeveless weather! John - I don't know if I'm on the Pig page. I'm on the Spark People Sparking, but I don't know that I'm on the Pig one...? Carrie

Hey everyone I have come in to eat some humble pie.
I look back at my comment and realise it could be that I conveyed what i did not intend. For the record I agree with Trish My comment was by no means meant to belittle the required training for a half it was a comment merely about where I am personally - that is that my running volume leaves me at a place where I effectively run a half on a weekly basis and so I can enter a half and run it without needing to go into a training phase. Tris is absolutely correct. As is Penny it is still a long way to run and a worthy challenge to tackle. I was trying to make reflection on just how far I have come and how this has caused me perspectives to change about distance and all that. I remember very well when the idea of running 5k seemed an insurmountable distance. It was indeed a scary thought when I entered my first 10k road race. So we are all at different levels. Some of us have been running for years and some of us are just starting out or getting back into it. Some of us run short some of us run long. We are the Rookie Runners and we encourage and support each other weather they are just trying to run a mile non stop, running our first 5k, 10k, Marathon Half Marathon or Ultra it is all the same when it comes to personal challenges. I want to say sorry if I miscommunicated I want you all to know that no matter how far or fast you run. I will always be here cheering you on as you tackle new challenges. Hey all!
For the record....a 1/2 marathon needs the respect the distance demands.!!! One of the things I have learned over the years is to respect the distance. I have most definitely not respected it on occasion, and have had REALLY bad races from time to time. No matter what our race distance is, we need to do the work if we want to enjoy the finish-line!!! Hugs and love, Trish If all you get is all you give, then you should only give all you''ve got.

Trish, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I am so glad your husband is feeling well enough to coach. Good stuff!
I'm feeling frustrated by my foot. I really want to run a half in April, but I can't seem to get this foot to stop hurting. I have not been running at all, but icing occasionally, cross training on the bike, elliptical, rowing and arm ergometer instead, and trying to stretch when I can. My official training for the half starts a week from tomorrow. I'm so afraid to run, because I dont want the pain to return. :/ Heather

Good morning all!
So I just decided to turn this week into a rest week. No biggie, I looked at my calendar and saw that I needed one anyway. This morning I'm headed to a half marathon clinic - it's the first meeting, and group runs start in February. I'm looking forward to Sunday morning runs! It's my favorite time to run.
