Morning! HOW ARE WE FEELING THIS MORNING? (Sorry am I talking too loudly for delicate heads after New Year celebrations lol)

It's 01-01-11 and I'm heading off to Parkrun. Shouldn't really be running today as it's meant to be a rest day, but I just couldn't resist starting off the New Year with a wee little bit of a jog.

Anyway it's a good way to try out the new lightweight running shoes I have, been wearing them to the gym and my feet love them, so without the temptation to run very fast (don't think I could, I'm soooooo tired) today is the day to tes them out.

So, who's going to be first up to start the new month thread???

Laters peeps

"I am a Runner, I love to run & I want to run at least 3 times per week. I was in great shape & now I want to get back there & look & feel like it. I want to always be strong when I run & I feel terrific after I finish. I love the feeling of acomplishment & the anticipation of the next run. I AM A RUNNER!"

Bobby-great race,Buddy!!I'm so glad it went well!
JoPa-WOW!!!That's fast,man! Congrats!
QueenChristy-funny, our weather in S Mich. was only 20 degree cooler..same Tstorms and buckets of rain.

I was dressed first thing and ready to run. Just before I put on my shoes, I saw the rain. Not sprinkling, but good rain shower. Do I? Don't I? What do I wear? Will this LS tee be okay? Put on a ball cap to keep the rain oout of my face and had my hand on the door...phone call. While talking, sheets of rain started falling!I mean DOWNPOUR! Hello-it's the end of DEcember..not April or June!! so, I headed out to get my errands run. Did not get the run in. By late afternoon I was exhausted and achey..dinnertime brought a temp of 100 and so the evening was spent on the couch. I slept thru the New Year coming in but am up drinking the oregano oil concoction that I should have been drinking many days ago...

I wish you all the very best!I"ve said it before but I mean it: you're the best team out there!

Happy New Years Eve, all!

I spent the better part of the evening moving some furniture and cleaning the downstairs. Just put some Jewish New Year Honeycake in the oven to have ready for honey when he comes home from work. In the meantime, I'm making sure the wine tastes ok. The first glass was good, I just have to make sure the second one is ok too.

Happy New Year!

Weather gods smiled down on us for our 5K today: sunny and 50sF. Had a great time with fellow Sparkers Anne, Bobby and LynnAnne and my son and DW.

Ended 2010 on a high note with a new 5K PR of 24:15. I ran a 7:50 min/mile with negative splits.

My original goal for 2010 was 1000 running miles. Six weeks off with a stress fracture killed that, but I am happy to end the year with 859 running miles.

Beth, you deserve a happy and productive 2011 after the 2010 you had.

Same goes for all Rookie Runners. Have a great 2011!!

Had an awesome 8 mile run with Suzanne. Finished the year with 470 miles run - going for 1000 in 2011. Just hanging out watching ND/Miami - Go Irish! Then taking the kids out to dinner tonight.

Anne11 - I'm usually not a fan of chains but I do like OG - cals not withstanding.

Beth - I think it would be awesome if you signed up for that 10 miler! Cannot wait! Missed you with our run today. I think we need to do it more often. Eight miles zipped by in a heartbeat. Can't wait to run at least 10 with you on 1/8.

Christy - Happy New Year. I got to spend 6 weeks on Grand Isle after Katrina/Rita. Very nice area.

Pam - 12K on cross-country skies is a great workout!

Mike - Happy New Year!!

Doris - glad that you can start that PT!

Penny - A New Year's Eve race sounds like a blast...but COLD!

Finished work early and now I'm relaxing with a movie (on tv). I've my last "race" of 2010 tonight. I hope the promised temperature rise happens. It's -16 now and it's supposed to go up to -9C = much better run than last year's -30something.

Have a great evening everyone. Run safe, party safe & enjoy.

DD, DH and I went to a high adventure ropes course in July. DD fell out of her tree and was stopped by the safety harness. Phew. Silly girl, what was she thinking??

Anyway, no run today. I got permission from PT yesterday to start doing some upper body strength. He gave me three exercises with weights, 4 without. It was marvelous:) Tomorrow is a rest day.

Happy new year eve day to everyone. I am ready to send this year out the door and ready for a brand new start.

Good luck to all those running/racing today and tomorrow. I know I am looking forward to starting the year off with a good 8-10 mile run - will decide in morning.

Hello all! Have been very busy over the past few days so haven't posted. Read all but can't respond to all, sorry. Beth and Nera, sorry to hear about the family members. Bobby...my eyes, my eyes!!! LOL!

Was supposed to run yesterday but DH wanted to try out the new skis so we drove to Tahoe and went cross country skiing. I figure we did about 12k. I would have loved to go further but DH is just at the start of his journey. Also have been reading "The Spark" and relate to a lot of it. Today is supposed to be a rest day but need to get that run in. Tomorrow, New Year's Day Bootcamp! :)

I would like to say "thank you" for helping me transition to this program this past month. I am grateful for the support and encouragement you have provided to a complete newbie. I'm looking forward to providing the same to you in the coming year. Here's to an awesome 2011!!! Happy New Year!

G'mornin', y'all! 70 degrees at 11:00 AM here in NW Louisiana--rain and thunderstorms predicted for today. The last day of 2010, and it feels like spring instead of winter--WTH???

I'm ready for the new year! This last year hasn't been the greatest, but I'm determined that the new year will be MUCH better! Hope everyone stays safe this evening if you're going out and/or "partying"...HAPPY NEW YEAR!

AnneofBadBobby (LOL) I had a stinker of a migraine on Wednesday, ended up in bed from waaaay earlier than normal and took until last night to feel remotely like myself, mine was down to caffeine withdrawal (Got that fixed now though) but I can wholly empathise with the whole head mess thing. I hope you feel better for tonight and the race.

Good New Year's Eve morning! I was hit with a MAJOR migraine yesterday. Started with the little floaties in my eyes about mid morning and progressed into a major issue during the running form class. I did manage to get through it and even learned quite a bit but from then on and through the night...holy cow! Right now I am functioning. But it's lurking in the back of the neck and if any of you are migraine sufferers you know that means it is just waiting to come back. Hoping that's not so. I use to get them quite often. It has been at least 4 or 5 years since I had one this major. So it MUST go away soon. Don't want to ring in the new year like this.
Carrie-hope the gym was fun. Hope Brad makes it home in time for a little new years eve toast!
Susan-Happy Hogmanay and such right back at you!
Penny-hope you get used to that cold weather soon. Either that or it gets warm again (probably not).
Beth-the class was worth it. I certainly never realized how my arms/shoulders swing to far and twist. Really working to much and making me expend way to much energy. Also, I am a heel striker. I knew that but he gave us tips on changing that. Very interesting.
Trish-the new year will bring better things for both of us I just know it! Hold your ground with your mom.
Judi-that story brought tears to my eyes. I love when someone stops to help something that can't help itself! Thanks for that!
Mike-be glad you missed the link to the speedos! It wasn't pretty!
Nera-so sorry to hear about your uncle. How awful!
Doris-sounds like a wonderful way to ring in the new year!
Frank-toilet bowl...ha,ha! Not sure how my boys did on the fantasy football...no one seems to be celebrating tho!
Hi Kirsten-wish I could get around to putting away the Christmas too. Not today. The race this afternoon (not sure if I will be able to do that with this migraine) and then dinner and dancing the new years in...see why I have to get rid of this darn migraine???

Just wanted to say...
Thanks Rookie Running Team for making 2010 the best it could be! I have had my share of issues this year but if were not for all of you (and especially that BAD BOBBY) it would have been much harder! I love you all!
Sorry, getting sappy!

Good morning all!

Judi - that *is* a cool story! Thanks for sharing.

Trish - I love that 2011 resolution. Take care of yourself!!!

The gym gear is on. I'm going to have a cup of coffee and then head out to the gym. I'm meeting a friend for lunch, and then I may do a little shopping. Brad usually makes it home around 11:45 - just enough time to have a glass of wine before the ball drops. Sigh...

I have a wonderful story to share tonight. We went to watch my older son's hockey game tonight in a town about an hour away. On the way home, close to 11:00 PM and in total darkness, the friend who was driving stopped in to look at a field of elk. We pulled into one approach, and saw a few. He backed out and then pulled into the next approach a bit farther down the highway. There was a HUGE herd of elk there that soon took off running in the opposite direction.

As we were watching them run, my friend Glenys noticed that there was one hiding between two rows of bales, and was just looking at us. Her husband, Pete, honked the horn, dimmed and brighted the lights, and even shouted out the door. This particular elk didn't even flinch.

At first, we thought he figured he was hiding from us. So Pete grabbed his flashlight and took off towards the bales. He went all the way around them, and didn't see the elk, so came back to the truck figuring that the elk had heard him coming and ran away.

But it turned out that the elk was trapped between the two rows of round bales. He must have jumped in there, and couldn't get himself out. The bale rows were six bales long, and he was about half way in there.

So Pete and Brad decided to try and get it out. They jumped up on the top of the bales, and Pete lifted it by the ears. Once it got up to where Brad could grab it's front legs, they got it turned around. They had to lift it a couple more times, but finally got it to the outer bales, where it was able to get itself out.

So glad that we saved it before any coyotes found it. What a cool adventure to end the night!

Hey guys!!

ANother busy day - but I actually felt like I had run across the finish-line with the last year-end I pumped out. It was a great feeling for sure:)

My Mom called 3 times today to try to invite herself to my place tomorrow - those of you that have read my blog know how that wouldn't be the best option. Tomorrow I will tell her that it isn't a possibility, and that she needs to respect my boundaries or I won't be around as much. It will be a tough chat, but if I don't take this stand, then I will be dealing with a whole other group of emotional issues...not gonna do that!!

My New Years resolution is to try to put myself first - get my bod fixed, repair the emotional damage from all that has happened, and FINALLY get to move forward.

What is yours?

Love you guys!!

Trish

John there is a quarter inch of dust on my treadmill :) Poor thing.... I run outside no matter what the weather but last night I had to cut it short because of icy paths and fresh snow. NOT a good combination. So my seven hills turned into one hill and a total of four kiloometres. I wasn't very pleased but I have the Resolution Run to do tomorrow so I'm playing it as safe as possible.

Evening guys!
I am glad I missed the men in speedos - that is just wrong.

I did get out and run today 6.07 miles good run - sun was out - which is has beeen MIA for almost 2 weeks - I did have to dodge the ice through and the little bit of snow we got yesterday. My run was about 30 degrees so it was good. got some more hills in.

I am running on New years day with a group suppose to be 20 degrees - so that will make it fun. Not! but I will be ready for it. don't mind running in cool weather. Maybe I should move to Calgary! just kidding! I would have a hard time running in those temps that Penny runs in. she rocks

I hope everyone has a great new years!!!

Yeh, today it's -22C and then Saturday it's going to be
-4C.... I think half the reason I'm so cold tonight is that the weather can't make up its mind and I can't get acclimatized.

Somebody please send me springtime... I'm not loving the cold anymore. My nose is cold, my toes are cold.....and I'm whiny. Can you tell?

Beth & Fran, my thoughts are with you. It's been a terrible year for losing the ones we love. Hopefully 2011 will be better.

Beth, hugs to you and Fran.
Nera: poor uncle, what was he thinking? going on the roof? Sheesh.

OK, the link to men in speedos was wrong on many levels. EEEWWWWW!!!

Having a NYE party tomorrow. Niece and her friend (both 10) are coming over. We will set up an air mattress on the family room floor, put movies on the big TV and have popcorn and "wine" (juice) for them. Got some cute plastic wine glasses for them. The rest of us will be in the hot tub, toasting around the fire pit and just plain having fun:)
DD's finger is now splinted. She has to get x-rayed again in two weeks after no use to see if the finger is healing. If not, bone graft may be in the works. Sheesh. Gotta teach a 27 yo to NOT fall out of trees.

I hope everyone has a fabulous and safe New Year celebration.
