I had a great day at work even though it was a short day. I went to the gym and did good ST I did 20 different exercises. I did about 70 minutes of cardio (1 1/2 mile on treadmill, 30 min elliptcal and 25 minutes on bike) it was a good day. I will have a 5 mile run tommorrow in the morning and I am doing an overnight camping trip with my boy scouts in the evening and saturday. we are going to try to catch some fish. First day of fishing season is on Saturday. have a great weekend.

Trish- thanks for the good comments and good luck with your injuries. I am sure June 1st will be here before you know it.

Coopsm - Great Job on your run. do you like running with a group or solo better?

Neraus - No exercise today but taking the son driving could be stressful. I am experiencing the same with my son.

Kim - sorry about the rain, I have to deal with the same issues living here in the foothills of the Oregon Cascades. 60-70 inches of rain per year here. We just have to look at the sky and look for a break and go for it.

Jules - Headed to the Y - Idaho or Utah? I am sure your happy nothing was broken - good thoughts and prayers to your recovery. I am headed for scout campout this weekend 10 boys and 6 adults. Have a good trip and weekend.

Anne - I love it when somebody hasn't seen me in awhile and they say You have lost some weight. I love to tell them I have lost 70 pounds in 2 years.

Wishing everyone a good weekend - Run Well!!!!

No exercise for me today. Instead I took the son out for driving lessons. Today was freeway driving. We got on the on ramp and I said now hit it. NO response. I said again hit it. NO response. Finally I said, rather urgently, push the gas pedal down hard we need to be going 60 by the end of this. LOL!!! The way we went the on ramp becomes a lane and then you can exit after 1/2 a mile. I had to tell him to breath the boy was rigid. He was more scared than I was LOL!!!!

He is doing a lot better and actually prefers to drive with me. The hubby is constantly telling him to do this, do that, faster, slower, move over. One day when all three of us were in the car I told my husband to be quiet he was giving the kid a headache. LOL!!!

Anyway tonight is quilting night and I am all ready behind schedule. We practised parking at the DQ. LOL!!!

Evening all! Got home from work a little bit ago and had dinner. Thinking I might get a bubble bath soon and go to bed. Taking today off from exercise-blood pressure too low-happens sometimes with my illness. I have a problem with balance when that happens so just taking it easy tonight.
Jules-glad to hear that nothing is broken but sad to hear that you are laid up for a while and on crutches. You take it easy-doesn't sound like you have much of a choice!
Mike-awesome job on the test run! Isn't it great when the Dr. tells you that they are impressed with how well you have done? Went through this with my heart specialist this year-he said I was in better shape than he is!!!
Nera-good job on your workouts! Just think of the stiffness and aches as your body getting healthier! It will get better.
Beth-hope your group run went well tonight.
Trish-ouch! A chair to the leg-not a good thing. (Remember-April is almost over)!

Trying to talk Bobby into both of us flying to Texas to help Derek get moved in. We haven't taken a vacation in over 10 years because of our business. Not that this would be much of a vacation, but at least we would be away for a few days. Depends on the price of air fare, if we could rearrange our customers, and WHO will watch the dogs (mainly Bear)! Better decide soon!

Morning, everyone!

I'm still alive, though I'm sure I look a fright. Sleeping wasn't too easy last night since turning over was tough, and the potty breaks more difficult with the crutches and all. I'm clumsy enough when half asleep and sound... half asleep and gimpy is a real challenge! LOL

I'm supposed to leave this evening with hubby in the pickup truck to go get our daughter from school out of state. We're taking the truck because he's also stopping at his mom's to get some of his dad's big tools (like a table saw and router). I'll be paying attention to how I'm feeling today to see if I think I should/can still go, or if I should stay here. So far I don't think I'm feeling bad enough that I need to stay, and some things are easier with the kind of help only a husband can provide, like getting into and out of the shower. But, we'll see.

Nera - about those lunges. They used to KILL me - I would be so exhausted my legs would be shaking afterwards, and I would be really sore the next few days. Now I have really strong legs. So, keep up the good work with them, and if you're finding yourself continuing to be fatigued, be sure you're getting enough protein to help rebuild those muscle fibers.

Trish - home stretch, girlfriend. You can do it! And great news from Brad, that Victoria isn't yet out of the question.

Mike - how fun that you could test run that course for the women! Great time, by the way! And congrats on the good BP numbers! That's the best thing about Sparking!

Kimiko - I hope it doesn't pour too badly on you today and that you have a good run.

I have an appointment with my regular doc on May 5. I'm looking forward to seeing him, partly to find out what my blood work numbers will be, and partly because I haven't seen this particular doctor since right before starting my weightloss and fitness journey. He's the one that diagnosed me with metabolic syndrome and low thyroid, and told me that if I didn't lose weight and change my lifestyle I would start having a lot of bad physical consequences very soon. It should be entertaining to see him again.

Cassi, you are an angel in disguise doing those taxes! Doesn't your mind spin after a while?
Mike, very cool being asked to do that course - of course you are a runner.
Jules, I hope you can heal up good this time.
Nera, hope you have a great workout today. Don't let the job get the best of you!
I'm working today and WILL just go out and do my run afterwards. I have a plan and will follow it. It is supposed to pour buckets, so I didn't pick the best day to start, but since Port Angeles is on the coast I have no choice emoticon lol
Hope everyone has good days at work and awesome workouts.

emoticon Nera and Mike bring up a good point. When was the last time you all had a check-up? It is actually kind of fun to go now and get kudo's from the doctor instead of sighs. I went at the end of March, and as soon as the doc walked in the door, she said "I can see you are still Spark-in'". After I started this program, I had a full year before another check-up. When I went in, I took her a bunch of stuff to look at about the site. She has recommended it to several of her patients.

Trish - I hope all goes well with the bod and you can train for Vic. I'm sorry about what happened at work with the chair, and also for the crappy week you're having. Six more days.....

Good morning everyone. Quite sore and stiff this morning. Plus throat is a bit sore from all the hard breathing done outside last night. Wow that part of the sentence sounds like I was doing something naughty. LOL!!!!

Mike way to go on being the test runner on the course and having your blood pressure so low. I look forward to my yearly check up now. Well that is kind of a lie because there is still that part with the legs the stirrups and well you know. Well you don't but the women runners do. LOL!!!!

Off to work.

Spot...
Just finished my last tax return of the night...holy, it was a demon in disguise!! Had an appointment with Brad (sports med dude) today. Apparently, when my staff member pushed the chair into my leg, it tweeked the meniscus, and strained the MCL again. It isn't bad, but he is concerned because it is the 4th time for it...much more and he wants to go in with a scope and clean it out.

Hammy is responding much better - both injuries are not making it easy on each other though. Asked him the question....should I pull out of Victoria...answer was "if all goes well, you will be ready to train June 1st". If that is the case, then I am back on for the marathon. Judging by the fact that I was able to do a 10k without problem (if I had good legs), it won't be a stretch for me to get there.

Work...let's not talk about it...I broke down more this week than I care to think about.

But hey, I am still working out...did a great ab/shoulder day today:)

Anyhow, I have to fly, sorry again for not being able to take time to read through the posts....

Mike, I saw Cass's post, and want you to know that I am really impressed with you bud, keep it up..

Oh yeah, and WELCOME BACK CHRISTY!!!!! Holy girlfriend, I missed you:)

Gotta fly,

Good Evening everybody,

Nera,Gigi and ann Congrats on your good runs it feels so good to make progress on our goals.

Cassie - thanks for asking about my day it was a great day I will explain at end of reply. great run for you and wanting to run for along time. it must be the new outfit.

doris- so sorry about the foot, I willbe sending good health vibes to you.

Jules - I had a similar bike mishap last summer. I bought this used bike last year. I was pedaling down this country gravel road and all of sudden it turned into a dead end. I slowed the bike down and was going to stop and look at the dead end because the map showed the road going through. I couldn't get my right foot out of the pedal and the bike tipped over with me still on the bike. My knee got all skinned up, blood dripping down my leg. I continued on my bike ride and I had to use my water bottle to clean up my leg. I install hardwood floors and I am on my knees 8 hours a day and I couldn't/t kneel on my knee for 3 weeks it hurt so bad. that is my sad story about bikes. take care of yourself.

I had a great day. the athletic club that I go to is have a 5k for women only on the 17th of may and the trainer in charge of the run asked if I would run the course and see what it was like. first I thought it was a privilege that she would even consider me a runner and value my opinion. I ran it today and my time was 33:00. It made day, week, month. I also stopped by the doctor today and had my blood pressure checked 120/78. It the lowest it has been in 10 years. I am so thankful to be getting more healthy and fit. thanks for all your support.
Mike

Hi RR's!
This group is so wonderful. Thank you all for the feedback. I got called in to work today and went for an hour walk with my dog along the waterfront. Since I did that today, I know I can and will do my run tomorrow. I'm so blessed to have great spaces to walk/run in, I'd hate to miss it. THANK YOU to the person who said "just do it". That's so simple, but actually makes great sense.
Nera, I know what you mean by feeling overwhelmed. The days I haven't been here are when I've worked. When I'm not here, I notice that I don't do as well with eating the right things and getting my workout in. I look for your posts everyday, so it would be a sad thing for you to go.
Jules, I sure hope you can strengthen the knee so it will stop giving you grief. That "popping" noise is just plain BAD!

Doris - hope you can get it settled.

Nera - good run! Good for you! I DO hope there's no longterm effects, although all these bumps and jars take their toll, LOL.

Adrian - nice to know I'm in good company, LOL.

Well, nothing is broken, thank heavens. Doc thinks it's just a bad bump and wrench and bruising so it should heal up quicker than anything else would, or I hope, anyway. He did give me a knee brace to minimize lateral movement, since that's where the most tenderness is, and crutches so I can keep the weight off for a bit.

The ankle is just a side effect of the knee, and is actually already feeling better than it was. Lots of motrin and ice and elevation and rest...

My poor good leg is sure getting a workout - even on crutches it's getting tired, lol. Guess that will help make sure I rest a lot.

Ok, gonna go get some dinner and rest on the couch. Talk to you later.

Oh Jules what rotten luck I hope that this doesn't lead to any long term problems. I hope that the doctor can give you good news.

Also thanks for the bike advice. I never did know how you could tell what size bike you needed.

I went outside for a run tonight. I wore a watch so I knew how long I had run instead of estimating. I ran 20 minutes walked 5 minutes then ran another 5 minutes. The 20 minute run was the longest I have ever run outside. Wow I was wiped out and my quads really hurt. I need to stretch some more and then take a nice warm bath. Anyway I am glad I got a good run in. The section of my run that I have to cross a busy road I really pick up speed. LOL!!!! Feels good to sprint for a little bit.

My doctor has said that I can have only 3 injections in one year time. This was the second one since Jan. If this doesn't work, one more then something else will have to be done. The doctor is thinking I might actually need surgery as this PF thing has been going on for just over a year. YUCK!

Hi all, just finished a 4 miler. Pretty good negative splits. Starting to feel like my old self again. Used the TM as it is incredibly windy and I am so tired from a long day at work. Kim-I get up for work at either 3:30 or 4:30 a.m. depending on my schedule and my job is fairly physical. Like Adrian said, if I didn't get my run in I would go crazy! I usually change as soon as I get home and get right to it. Either a run or ST. Then the rest of my night is mine-you know-to do laundry, run the vacuum, whatever!!! Luckily for me Bobby does the cooking!
Nera-hang in there! You just need to find balance. Keep working at it.

Jules---how awful!!!! I hope it's nothing to serious and you are back on your feet as soon as possible! Sending healing vibes your way! Keep us posted!

Jules- OUCH!!!!!!

Adrian your workouts are always awesome, great job.

Today was tempo training for me. Warm up 2 miles @ 5.4, 3 miles @ 6.1, cool down mile @ 5.4. It felt really good. I did it on the TM today as I have decided I need to really control my speed for these tempo runs to make them more effective. Not sure I could have kept the consistency if I was outside. I think the heal of my foot has gotten tough as there was no bleeding today!!

Have a great night everyone!

Jules:
OUCH! If it makes you feel any better I wiped out for the first time this year over the weekend. Thought I could go through a 100 yard stretch of ice but only got halfway before I wiped out. Forgot I was on my roadbike with the skinny tires rather than my cyclocross bike with the fat knobbies... First thing I did when I got up was check the bike over, it's fine and I have a bit of the road rash but ice is pretty fun to fall on... Slide-y, much?

For road rash, peroxide is your friend. Otherwise, rest up and all the best at the docs for the knee!

NERAUS:
If you want to buy a bike the first thing you have to find out is what size fits you. Here, only your local bike shop can help you with that. If you go in and just tell them you're looking for a bike but you can't afford to go over X dollars you should be able to get some decent advice about what size to get, and what you should be looking for. They may even be able to finance or something, you never know. Try out some of the bikes that they suggest so that you know what you like and don't like in a bike.

Think of the LBS visit in the same way that you'd go and get properly fitted for a pair of running shoes. But be up front, after all when the bike you get breaks down (and they will), you'll be going to the LBS for service!

Oh, and you can't leave the RRs. You can try, but you'll be back.....

KIMIKO:
Early morning or late night is generally when I try to squeeze in a run when things are tight. Even if it's 20 minutes, it's valuable alone-time. I get significantly grouchy if I don't get my fix.

This week is the last week of a training block and boy am I feeling it. The plan is working well though, I had a recovery day on Monday (all I did was commute to and from work, at a very easy don't-break-a-sweat pace). And what do you know? Recovery day worked. Had run intervals on tap last night and nailed the lot of them. Awesome.

EDITED to add:
Hey Christy! Nice to see you again!

Hey guys!

Well, Cassie - no running for me anytime soon, I'm afraid. I decided to try a simple little bike ride with my friend Kelly, so instead of doing the lake trail which is pretty strenuous, we did the local running trail I use, which is also good for cycling.

Well, I hit a sandy patch on a downhill turn and wiped out but good. I've got a little bit of road rash on the downside, but somehow, the upper leg (yes the SAME leg that's been having trouble!!) got seriously wrenched. I felt the knee pop as I went down, and now that is very tender, and the ankle is also involved. Swelling right up, and very tender also.

D'OH!!! Oh well, I'd rather get injured out being active than be safe, whole and fat at home on the couch.

I've had it up and being iced, I've taken a good dose of motrin, and am about to head to the Urgent care. In the meantime, Trish... looks like you're not the gimpiest one in the NM these days. You may be 1 1/2 legs, but at the moment I'm just 1 legged. I can't put any weight at all on it.

I'll update later after the doc's visit. I guess the good news is that my schedule just got a lot simpler, LOL!!

First off, Christy!!! HI!!! good to see you!!

Ok, my client pulled a no-show today and so I used the time to get in a little cardio and strength training. I'm going to feel things tomorrow. I have GOT to start doing more strength training. I'm such a slacker :( BUT I feel good now.

I'm going to go soak in the shower. Maybe I'll pop by the choctub later for a soak in there, too.

Long time no see, RR's! Just popping in to let you know I'm still alive and kicking, though not kicking too high lately. Haven't done any walking (much less running) for about 6 months now other than a day here and there, but trying to start back now. Doc says I need a new knee...literally...but we're going to try the Synvisc injections to delay the inevitable knee replacement. Once the knee is replaced surgically there will be NO RUNNING whatsoever. But I can walk to my heart's content! Anyway, just wanted to drop in and say "hi" and I think about y'all a lot...I'll try to drop by a little more often.

Love y'all!
Christy :)

Hey gang I am feeling a bit calmer. Hubby practically forced breakfast down my throat so that helped.

I have done lunges before and quite a bit just not in the last month or so. I didn't think I was doing that many repetitions but I guess if you can't walk when you are done that might be a sign that you are. LOL!!!

I was thinking of using my birthday money to buy a bike. I just don't know what kind to get. The bike stores where there is someone to help you are so expensive. I guess I need to look at the second hand bikes. I know when I see them at garage sales they looked like they have been in a wreck and then they want a fortune for them. I do have one that needs to be fixed but it is more of a cruising bike not sure if that is what I need to get a good work out.

Nera, sorry you are feeling so time stressed. I wanted to suggest that you try Craigslist on the internet to look for a used bike. I know that Lybbe swore by it. As for the lunges, next time you start a new ST exercise, go for lower reps the first time. Those lunges kicked my butt to begin with too, but they really are one of the best for runners legs.

Mike - glad you found your ped, and got the extra miles in. How does it feel today?

Jules - that's too bad about the RLS. I hope you can get running soon, just for the sleep benefits.

Trish - hope all that st on one leg doesn't throw you out of balance for when you do get going again. Ask your guys about that next time you see them k.

Kimi - in the winter I go in the dark. Now that the days are longer, it's light out when I leave the house, but you just need to make the committment to go, and then make it work. My hubby got me one of those vests with the reflective crosses on them (like the highway workers wear) for my dark runs. People have said they can see me all the way across town!

Beth - that's still a pretty good time, even for a crappy run.

Doris - sorry about the PF, and hope the shots give you some relief. I'm not sure about the quantity - has your doc said anything to you about that?

Anne/Bobby - that's so awesome that you have each other's back to go workout together like that. And it sounds like such a nice walk.

I had a great run yesterday, wished I was running my half. I wanted to go forever. Those runs just don't happen often enough. (and I am still in LOVE with my capris - should have purchased them much sooner).

My legs still feel weak this morning. I can't believe that 30 lunges could do so much damage.

Tonight is run night but I should be able to get outside.

Not very happy this morning. I just found out I used the wrong debit card when I bought my son's pants and there was not enough money in that account. So the blue jeans after bank fees cost over $50. Smart move on my part. Just one of the reasons I feel like I am spinning out of control. I haven't felt right since I started this full time job and I think it was a mistake taking it. I spent too long working part time and by myself and I just can not get use to this schedule.

I seem to have too much on my plate and have no time to do anything. I am giving serious thought to dropping out of Sparks. It seems to take so much time everyday. It is however the only place that anyone cares how my health/weight/exercise journey is going. Maybe I am just hungry and I should eat. But I was feeling this way last night too. Kind of tired of being tired.

Morning all! Just a quick pop in for now - I'm actually going back to bed in a minute to see if I can get a little more sleep. NOT running has been causing havoc with my legs - I keep getting awakened at night with restless legs - I hadn't dealt with that much since I started running! emoticon

Bobby - can I get in line with Trish for some hammy work?

I think the original problem was piriformis, and it seems to be improving, but that right hammy is now acting up, tender and sore, kind of burning with the slightest exertion, and not the burn as you work the muscle type, but a burn even when resting.

I did ST today, just upperbody and core, fairly easy as my buddy and I did a lot of chitchatting to catch up too, as we hadn't seen each other for a week, lol. I think did the elliptical for about 35 - 40 minutes, almost no incline and very little resistance but I still felt it in that leg. *sigh* Stretched after, but was on the run so much I didn't get much chance to ice it.

I'm going to try an easy bike ride today - was supposed to meet with Paul again but told him there was no way the leg was ready for one of his workouts. Maybe next week, if driving in the truck all weekend doesn't totally tweak it.

Have a good one all! Mike - I loved the 1 1/2 leg comment too. Good one!

Trish - I do think that's when you lost it. It was worth it for that chocolate fight, though! HEE!

Coopsm - Good job on run today, I have been ST less the last couple of weeks and concentrating on running with nicer weather. we'll see how it effects me.

Doris - careful with the shots. good luck to and hope you will be running soon

Bobby - I lost it, but it was found right where I left it on the trail all lonely and stuff. Good job on the run and walk.

GiGi - Yoga is great way to relax and gets you mentally ready for run tomorrow.

Anne - way to go on the St. I am struggling to St because I want to run so bad.

Kim - You'll get your chance! Be Patient

Trish- this year has been nasty for sickness - lots of people have been sick and not just for few days but a couple weeks. I am glad it has missed my family. Great run with only 1 1/2 legs.

Today was a good day, I got in a good ST over an hour. It has been about 4-5 days since I have been able to that as I have been working on the running.
I did run a mile on The treadmill for warm up. I did the mile in 9:24 my personal best. Have a great day tomorrow.

Hey guys,
Another really stressful day in Trishland. I lost another tax preparer today (sick, out for at least a week) - actually HAD to leave work for a workout today because I thought I was going to break down.

Good thing is that I had one-leg/core day...it was AWESOME!!! Almost the same as last week, but finished off with 1.5 minutes isometric ab roll, one-legged wall sit, and one legged isometric hip press...holy good burn (looked kind of drunk staggering around the gym...LOL). Tonight I did a 5k on the dread...hammy felt pretty good (as long as I say it quickly), knee tweaked a bit...see what Brad says tomorrow.

Bobby, glad you are "hammy aware", the rub felt great today, hopefully you are ready for tomorrow because my one leg that I worked out today is going to need some attention...LOL:) Oh yeah, that was my bathing suit...it accidentally fell off when we were having a chocolate fight one night...right Jules - c'mon, back me up on this chicka!!

Gotta fly, taxes await:)

Hugs,
Trish

OH yeah, I run pretty much exclusively at work. I take my whole lunch break for it.

If all you get is all you give, then you should only give all you''ve got.

I'm kind of upset. I did some st tonight and I thought I had some leg strength. Well I did two sets of lunges(one set is 15 a side)and now my legs are so weak I can barely get up and down the stairs. No wonder I can't run very far or fast I seem to have very weak legs. To say I am feeling a bit bummed is an understatement.

I just got a call to work this Thursday and Friday. So, how do you all fit in running when you work? It is still dark before I go in and then I'm really exhausted by the end of the day. HELP! Should I just do it anyway and see how I do? Working is really messing me up big time. emoticon When I work I've just done strength training, but I really need to run too. emoticon

Evening all. Just finished ST and getting ready for bed. As Bob said we took the dogs on a beautiful trail today. It was so green and lush with the creek rushing below. Did a little easy jog on the smooth parts but a lot was rocky. My knee felt it though! The dogs were in heaven-chasing squirrels and each other! Had a piece of Phillips birthday cookie/cake so good thing I had a little extra workout! Sounds like everyone is getting their workouts in. Good job all! I am off to bed---nighty night!!!

I did some yoga today to try and recover from my intervals yesterday and prepare for my tempo run in the morning. Days like today I just want to run, but I have to show restraint. Bad food day for me. That is another bad thing about not working out hard, I eat so bad. emoticon

Bobby and Beth- great job on the runs.

Trish- emoticon ( all I have to say)

Nera- I love the office, not sure if I would want to work with any of them though.

So, another day of work and still no nap or run. I ended up getting another cortisone shot in my heel for that pesky plantar fasciitis. It hurts, but only when I rest and then stand up. When I walk/run on it, it hurts for the first 5 minutes or so but then it doesn't hurt anymore.....until I stop. yikes

Hey everyone I hope you all had great days. I was telling my hubby about my job today and he asked if I thought my boss was like the guy on the office. LOL!!!! Sometimes it is a bit odd there. It was hot on friday so they turned on the AC and left it on. Now we are all freezing our fannies off since it has been 55 and rainy the last couple of days. I may have to take a blanket to work. Some of the people there actually do have them to put over their laps. LOL!!!

Anyway off to watch Biggest Loser and make the attempt at some ST.
