AZURE, What a great wine! Here are the tasing notes from Wine Spectator's panel of tasters:

WILD HORSE,Pinot Noir Central Coast 2007, Score: 89, Release Price: $25, California

This is complex, displaying a mix of ripe cherry and raspberry flavors, with mineral and loamy earth notes that have a savory herb edge. Full-bodied, focused and long on the finish, with the right mix of acidity and tannins. Drink now through 2012. 76,000 cases made.

The release price is often beat at the retail level, especially in this challenging economic market. My guess that if you were patient for a sale and bought in volume, you could buy this wine for very close to $20 per bottle.

There is a data base for these wines. No, I do not try every one - sure wish I could though!
Somewhere near the beginning of this thread I stated that these tastings were from Wine Spectator's on-line site (winespectator.com). It provides three tastings per day(1. under $15; 2. between $15 to $30; 3. over $30) six days a week. Often, I use this source to find wines to purchase, esp. when they seem to fit my preferred wine profile (or my wife's profile). I would guess that I buy 30 to 40 wines a year that appear on this thread. We pop and pour about 200 bottles of wine every year, often sharing them with friends and family. Today (Easter) we will probably go through about 5 bottles - last New Year's eve we went through 30 bottles. We like wine.

Today's recommendation:

Apr. 04, 2010: LORING Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands Rosella's Vineyard 2008 (93 points, $46)

Combines firm wild berry, black cherry, plum and mineral notes in a tight, structured manner. Full-bodied, complex and concentrated, revealing extra flavor and depth. Ends with a long, persistent finish. Drink now through 2015. 575 cases imported.

Curly, thanks for the comments. I am soooo amazed with the quality of the 07 and 08 Columbia Valley wines! It seems as though, just when you thought that things could not possibly get better (than the 07's), they did with the 08's! I would put these wines up against the best of Burgandy and Brodeaux.... and the rest of the world for that matter!

My recommendation for today:
Mar. 31, 2010: BODEGA CLOP Y CLOP Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza Los Clop Reserva 2007 (87 points, $14)

I see you have discovered Owen Roe - don't stop at the Pinot, they have some big reds that are fabulous! Abbot's Table and Sinister Hand are 2 great red blends. Perhaps I love them because they use Washington fruit. Yes - some Oregon wineries use Columbia Valley fruit for their non-Pinot wines.

2008 Abbot's Table
24% Zinfandel, 22% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Syrah, 10% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Blaufrankish, 4% Malbec

Always a favorite! The 2008 Abbots Table is very reflective of the beautiful long growing season in Washington during 2008. With long warm days and cooler evenings, the fruit developed fabulous aromatics and deep rich flavors. The 2008 Abbot's Table shows darker fruit notes than the previous two vintages. This very balanced and smooth Abbot's Table has the signature velvety mouth feel with enough structure to support generous ripe flavors of sweet red and black fruit, plums, and dark cherries. Every varietal works in harmony to create this gorgeously layered wine.

2008 Sinister Hand
Our primary source for this wine is Dr. Steve Elerding's vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills, where the proximity of the Columbia River is a vital part of the success of these traditional Rhone varietals. This wine is very dark with fruit flavors, pepper and an excellent texture. The blend is 62% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 3% Mourvedre
