Aw, how cute and funny! That name sounds perfect.

I've been trying to come up with names but haven't figured anything out yet. She is currently named Coraline but I would like something different and I figure that she's young enough that she probably doesn't know her name yet (so it shouldnt cause any problems). It might be a good idea to see what she's like first. I just know that I don't want to wait too long because I want to get a name tag made asap, just in case. I also plan to take her to get a microchip but I'm not sure if she needs a name by then or not.

Yay for you then! Puppies are much better for homes with existing pets. We have cats so we always rescue the dogs we get young so the cats can help train them to leave them alone. And yes, she will really help with exercise, so way to go! =) Any ideas for a name yet? Or are you waiting to see what her personality is? Our latest we adopted was named Bronx when we got him, but as soon as we saw his skinny tall frame with HUGE paws and heard that he had issues eating slowly enough to avoid choking, we had to name him Scooby, he isn't a great dane, but he would outeat one in a heartbeat. =)

Oh I completely understand. This really isn't some rash decision just because I was robbed. I've wanted a dog for some time and this is just kinda the push that's getting me to do it. I found a german shepherd/lab puppy at a rescue that I intend to get. Right now she's only 6 weeks old, so I do have to wait a couple of weeks. I was originally going to find an older dog, but I have a couple other pets, and I thought a puppy might be easier to have around other animals. She's going to take a lot of work and training. I know it's not going to be much of a guard dog for some time.

I know she'll need exercise. I'm ready to have to deal with that. That's another perk actually. I'm thinking that a dog will be a great way for me to start exercising again since I've been slacking really really really bad...

I am soooo sorry that happened to you! Yes, people suck!
A dog is a great idea, just keep in mind the amount of exercise they need to keep from being destructive and having behavior issues. Terriers especially are high energy dogs, we have 2 pit bull terriers and they need 2 outings a day of at least an hour exercise in order to be calm in the house, and we have a big yard for them to run in too. If they don't get enough we end up with them jumping up on people in excitement, roughhousing with each other too hard near the kid (when properly exercised they are wonderful around him), and being too excited and energized to listen to commands. If you want a guard dog, you want more german shepard or rottweiler than pit bull anyway, pit bulls are notorious for being a barker but not a protector of the house. The neighbors will hear a dog barking, but the pit will likely decide to be friendly toward the intruder if the intruder decides to try to make friends, whereas the rott or german would be more likely to stand its ground over the turf, friendly burglar or not.
Definitely get renters insurance when you replace your stuff, but please think hard about whether you are up to having a dog, its not just an alarm system that needs food instead of batteries, and if you do decide you really want one, try your local shelters and rescues for a dog that needs a home, there are way too many out there.

Well I live in a little neighborhood of townhouses. I'm pretty sure the units are all owned by different people. My landlord owns only one or two of them.

A couple of people have suggested that it could be a 'friend' or something, but I really don't think so. Me and my boyfriend are pretty much recluses and the only people that ever come over are his family.

I think it's probably someone near by. Just 2 weeks ago the people at the end of my building (each building has 4 units. We're at the end of one) were robbed. Plus the guy who mows our lawn once found (maybe 8 months ago) needles back in the overgrown plants/trees behind our house. So we've got some real winners that live near by.

I really want to go out and get a dog now. Preferably a large one...

Honestly, I am shocked your apartment complex didn't insist on you getting it. Any I have lived in require the policy number on your renter's agreement.

Even here in CA it is about 15-20 a month for decent coverage. I would call your insurance company (or just pick one out) and get covered immediately. May want to notify or ask the complex management why they would not require it.

I am so sorry =(. I hope you can recover the stuff. Could it possibly be someone you know? I know people don't like to think about it, but generally break ins are someone that knows what kind of electronics you have.

I don't have renter's insurance :'( I didn't really know anything about it and neither did my boyfriend. I was talking to my ex-boyfriend and he wanted to know why I didn't have renter's insurance. I made a comment about us not having it when we lived together but apparently he did through car insurance. I never knew that. I thought it was just one of those scams to get more money from you...

Ugh =( ... So sorry, hopefully renter's or homeowners will cover all the losses. My brother's house was broken into a few years ago, and they are pretty sure that whomever it was knew them. Hang in there and vent here!!

So yesterday someone decided that it would be ok for them to help themself to my belongings. They broke into my house and took my 19in flat screen hd tv, my xbox 360, my boyfriend's wii, both our laptops and a few other things. They also took my xbox 360 game Rage (the only game they did take) which cost me $50 and I got to play twice.

I never thought I was an emotional eater but yesterday I was starving but nothing sounded good really.
