My sparkpoints class of XXXX team has a goal this month that is similar to the idea of taking down a boss. It's a distance challenge based on mileage and if you do cardio instead of walking or running, the conversion is 10 minutes = 1 mile. The team goal is like 8,000 miles so if I walk 3 miles a day and then do 30 minutes of cardio, I would be able to put in 6 miles for that day.

So for example we could have a monthly goal to take down a boss and just decide what counts towards the points and then add them ourselves rather than needing to keep track of them in a thread.

Is there anyway to kill the old team goals? Like the pushups and such?

I need to go look at the new goals (i wasn't on the net much last night, it was raid night!) and join them.

Will we need a thread to record everyone's points so we know when the 'mob/monster is dead?

Edit** Ok, I joined 3 of the goals, the weight loss one, the pushups (I will be doing wall pushups until my shoulder works itself out--bad wipe out while tubing flared it up again), and the exercise one.

Each day or so people can post their progress:

My HP (10lbs, September this year) = 990pts
On track for Food = 0HP
No negativity = 0HP

Monster HP Before: 2000

60 minutes Cardio = -150HP
+
10 minutes Strength Training = -5HP

Monster HP After: 1845

IDK, I just worked a long night shift haha, I'm going to bed :)

Looking foward :)

Ok I reworded it "1 session a day 3 times a week". It forces you to put numbers in. So work out at least 3 times a week ladies.

It's the weird way you input things. Exercise 3 times per week. I'll try to fix it, damn thing forces you to input something even when you don't want to.

The new team goals are up and I have joined all of them but I have some questions/comments:

Yoga 20 Minutes per day
- Can someone link me to an EASY 20 minute routine? I am a super-n00b @Yoga but want to get into it.

Jumping Jacks during cutscenes/load screens 10 jumping jacks 1 time per day
- I live in a top-floor highrise so I don't think my downstairs neighbors would appreciate this one...so I am substituting for dumbell weightlifting

Lose 10 pounds treat yourself to something game related 10 pounds 1 time per month
- this is my favorite one of the bunch. Love it! 10 lbs was my goal for this month anyway.

Exercise 3 week 3 times per week
- I don't understand this one. Am I mis-reading it or is it a typo??

Pushups 20 pushups 3 times per week
I will not so much do a push-up as push the earth down!

Picking something cool has honestly never been a problem, at least for my photo contests. The people who participate actually pick things they want to do. We can also do "seasonal" or special contests along with the monthly ones. Those contests (along the same lines as you described below) are a bit harder and last 2 months or so instead of the 1 month contest.

I do have a dumb question so forgive me for asking but...how do we keep track of X person's totals?

Alright, I've thought long and hard about this...expanding off my idea, (without overcomplicating things), here's a proposition of how to structure monthly quests:
Example:

**Battle the Siren in September**
Siren HP = Individual Monthly Fitness Minutes Goal set by Team (e.g. 2000)
Player HP = lbs to lose x 9 (September is the 9th month) x 11 (for the year 2011)

-10HP to Siren for every 15 minutes of Cardio
-5HP to Siren for every 10minutes of Strength Training

-10HP to Player for every 100 calories "over budget" (individually set obviously)
-5HP to Player for every negative comment said about themselves

Whomever has the highest damage to the Siren or whomever retained the majority of their HP wins?

And the winner has to pick something cool....that would be my only gripe lol

THOUGHTS???

Looking foward :)

Hey I like it! Good incentives!!! I definitely think it could work if we set it up like you suggested.

I'm all about Rhyming and Themes and what-not and with Winter soon approaching goals like matching gaming minutes with fitness minutes would be awesome (especially if there's you know, 8ft of snow outside). And monthly goals would be great too so that we all could have time to really think about each goal and how it fits for us as individuals (while having a sweet gaming theme).

Looking foward :)

Ok I added the max amount of goals we can have.

Let's expand on Sorcha's comments, this would be a great motivator.

Wow that is an awesome idea Sorcha! I already run monthly contests on another board for photos so this one I can easily add to my calender.

We could do it once a month like you suggested. The person with the most points (however we work that out) would be the person who chooses the next month's contest. So not only do you have an incentive to win for yourself by losing weight and treating yourself to something, you get the bonus of choosing what we do battle in next.

Well I accidentally posted on the wrong thread....didn't hit the link from the team mail, but I proposed something like this:

Maybe we could all do monthy qwests, like "Battle the Siren in September" , "October Orc Infestation" or "Arcane August" and making mini fitness and nutrition challenges out of that.
Okay I'm not really being that clear, so here's an example:

*Battle the Siren in September*
Siren has 25,000HP
Team has 50,000HP (or the team member # times whatever for a cooler amount)
For every 15 minutes of Cardio, the Siren loses 10HP
For every 100 calories an individual over-eats per day the team LOSES 10HP

If we win we all should reward ourselves, i.e. pedicures, mini-vacations, or whatever but if we lose we need to give something up that month, i.e. chocolate, latte's, seconds, or non-fruit desserts

Something like that perhaps????

But of the proposed team goals listed in the first thread I like
*Exercise 3 days/week
*Jumping Jacks during cutscenes/load screens
*Lose 10 pounds treat yourself to something game related

Looking foward :)

I don't eat while gaming so that wouldn't be fab for me.

Drinking sugary liquids is hard to stop while gaming.

Hmmm.. I will consider this!

I'm trying to get myself to NOT eat while gaming, but I don't do the tabletop/rpg stuff either. I kind of view eating while gaming as one of those AVOID things like eating in front of the tv or at the computer.

Maybe a few things like
10 minutes of cardio before gaming
10 minutes of cardio per hour of gaming
(Maybe a few different ones like those with the idea of exercising to earn game time?)
Play a game that requires movement at least 3 times a week

Most teams have the water or fruit goals - plus we already track those ourselves - so they seem kind of superfluous to me.

What about keeping it more general, for people with injuries then?

"Do two sets of 12-15 reps of chosen strength exercise before gaming."

Follows with most SP guidelines and suggested strength exercises, and people can choose to go with upper, core or lower body -- whatever she's working on at the time!

Thoughts?

I like the game related also.

Good snacks while gaming
Rewards in game for losing.

I also like the exercise ones. I have shoulder issues, so push ups aren't always an option

Exercise 3 times a week
exercise 10 minutes a day

Stuff like that works for me

That's a great idea, keeping it game related. As you said, many of the others are tracked elsewhere. Let's stick to gamer related goals so we have something unique for our group.

I like the idea of keeping things gamer-related. Some of the more general goals are already tracked elsewhere on the site (8 cups of water a day) or on other teams. I think we should aim to have goals specific to why we're here.

That said, I really like the following suggestions:

Eat healthy snacks while gaming
Do jumping jacks during load screens or cut scenes
Read up on gaming news 10 minutes a day
Lose 10 pounds treat yourself to something game related

Other ideas could include (or be modified to include):
20 pushups before sitting down to game
20 crunches before sitting down to game
Share healthy snacks with fellow gamers (or try)

I think my favourite is the healthy-snack-munching while gaming. I always find it hard when gaming with friends and they're munching on chips and pizza and I have carrot sticks and a banana...
