Late to this thread... but wanted to point out that even on The Biggest Loser, week 2 is usually the week that most contestants lose little or even gain weight despite the program they are on.

Doss

See how I run! http://gettingnowherefast.bimjournals.com

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up.
It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

I had a friend who once observed, "there's a sandwich in every beer". In other words, by doing your elliptical and burning 450 calories, you offset maybe two 12 oz. cans of beer, depending on the brand.

When you track your food, make sure you track all beverages too! Go back to the days you drank and add the beers to what you consumed that day. I think if you do the math, you will see why you did not lose any more weight.

So... today marks the end of my THIRD week...and still no additional weight loss. The ONLY thing I can think of is that the last two Saturdays I had beer (let's just say way more than I should have). BUT, knowing that I would drink on those special occasions (friends 30th Birthday parties) I worked out on my elliptical for 40 minutes (450 calories burned) before going out. Is alcohol THAT damaging to the dieting process?? Or am I just super impatient? Other than that I am right on track with SP's diet and exercise plan. My friend is using weight watchers and is dropping 3lbs a week consistently. Please let me know if you have any advise. Thanks. Rachel

It all adds up. Every time you do some exercise or make a good food decision you are creating the conditions that make your body let go of weight. (the converse is also true!)

Congratulations on sustaining these necessary conditions! As weeks turn into months, you will see the net result.

Thanks everybody!! I was really feeling discouraged, but seeing your reply's helped a lot. I guess I just thought I could be the next "Biggest Looser" and loose 10 lbs each week! lol Guess not. I will be patient and I have been sticking with SP's diet and exercise plan. Let's hope for a better week next week! emoticon emoticon emoticon

If you lost 4 your first week then no less the second week is normal, don't get discouraged by what the scale says each week, its keeping it up in the long run that will see you reach your goals

I too get very frustrated at some weeks being high then some being nothing at all or even a gain of a pound!! I read that when your body is losing the fat pounds you tend to gain a pound or so then lose that plus some more. Congrats on your weight loss so far!!! emoticon

Remember that you want to AVERAGE a 1 to 2 pound weight loss each week. If you lost 4 lbs one week, you should expect to not lose the next week.

If you want to see big numbers, make sure to drink LOTS of water, get your fiber, and really cut back on sodium. Get in lots of cardio and all together, this will help you lose any waste/water weight that your body is holding on to(usually 5-10lbs). Everything beyond this is fat loss.

Don't stress too much about week to week weigh ins. Over time, the number will go down. Also, your clothes may be fitting looser without seeing pounds lost.
I don't think there's any such thing as "normal." A 4 lb loss in 1 week won't be sustainable over a long time healthily. You might see another big jump next week. I've been being so good and so faithful and have only lost 2.2 in almost 3 weeks. I'm trying not to get discouraged, but I know my clothes are fitting looser and I'm more fit.
