The extent of my planning for the holidays has consisted of trying to figure out if we are travelling for thanksgiving.
I sat down the other day and started a list of all the meals I can think of to make for dinner. We've been having a lot of pasta recently because I haven't been planning...I came up with over 40 different healthy meals.
I've been trying to do more stretches- I have sciatica trouble, and it's been flaring up recently, si the more I can stretch the better off I'll be.

I've started planning for the holidays. I'm going to start my baking next week so I can get goodies off to the troops in Iraq. You have to mail things going overseas early. My niece is over there and I'm sure she will share what I send with her comrades in arms.

I did some shopping and laid in some healthy snacks. I usually snack on fresh fruits and raw veggies, but it's nice to have something else in the house I can snack on if I feel like it. I also bought some Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers to have on hand, and some Wasa light rye crisp bread. They are only 30 calories per slice and made with whole grains. They will be good with my salads ... I like having something to shovel the salad onto my fork with.

I haven't really added extra stretches to my exercise routine, but I have been holding them deeper and longer. I've increased my cool down & stretch session after my exercise from 5 minutes to 10 minutes.

I haven't really posted but I'm down to 131!!!! My boot camp was unsuccesfull, I got burnt out before I even started so I haven't been to the gym like I would have liked, I've really strived to eat right, that didn't go so great this week so I was really suprised by the scale! Maybe I will get my bikini for Christmas after all!

Oh, my goodness ... I'm not ready to start planning for the holidays! How did it get to that time of year already?

I like the one about stocking cupboards and freezing easy to prepare meals!

I really do need to spend more time stretching. I do some stretches, but really should hold them longer. I'll work on that this week too.

For the mind:
Plan for Healthy holidays, write stuff down if you have to so you can keep holidays lbs from sneaking into your body.

Food
Plan healthy meals, stock cupboards or freeze easy to heat stuff.

for week 4 of oct, 20-26

Eating - write down what you eat with estimation of calories (or sodium/calcium/ or nutrient that you are concerned about )

if you want exercise:
interval training
ie jog with your pet instead of running, more instense cardio with sculpting work

and for the mind:
pray or mediate for at least 5 min everyday

Challenge completed! Always have fruit for snack, yes to the double workout videos (today did Boot Camp Day 4 & 7) and it's true - saying positive things tends to make other people say positive things back! Very good challenge!

I like this set. I normally pack lost of raw veggies to "snack" on when things get busy at work. I start stress eating during high stress calls and by having veggies to munch on I save myself from too many calories.

Instead of doubling up on boot camp videos I'm going to add a Leslie DVD to my day. I usually do a 4 or 5 mile DVD when I get up in the morning ... I'm going to add a 1 or 2 mile walk when I get home from work.

I like the positive comments too. I'm sure I can find a way to compliment someone everyday.

Double up on daily boot camp workouts

and for the mind:
Say positive things daily.. it may sound corny but compliment yourselves and others. I did this last week and i was getting more compliments then normal. Even grouchy people were smiling around me!

I weighed and measured everything I ate yesterday, and stayed true to the menu I wrote out for myself in the morning. I did the five mile advanced walk yesterday and can only claim "strength training" credit for the mile with hand weights, mile with resistance band and mile with the waist thingie. Last night I got a call from my son's Godmother in NJ. I was walking out the door when the phone rang, so will call her back tonight. That will take care of the talk to a friend or family member you haven't spoken to in a while requirement. So far I'm right on task!

Hi all, I have not posted here much, I always post on the "I hate excersise team". I have not problem running/walking. I am pedometer junkie, always logging in those 10,000 plus steps and I do swim a few times a week. But when it comes to strength training or working out I am really bad at it. I live in New England so soon the leaves will turn and then the weather will probably force me inside more and I need to get busy with a routine to replace my runs etc. I really need the strength training for my bone health!
I think the challenge of eating more fruits and vegie's is a great idea. Shall have a salad with tuna and vinegar and oil dressing. Cath

Okay, I'm two for three now. I HATE lima beans but ate them this weekend in a Italian blend of frozen veggies. Now I have to work on the kitchen.

Emptied out the motor home when we got back from camping earlier today. Tomorrow I'll go out and wash down the inside of the fridge, clean the oven, range tip, bathroom and glass. I brought the sheets and blankets in ... I'll wash them up and make out bed ... the sheets for the hide-a-bed will just have to sit in a closet until next year because we have to push out the living room slide to pull the bed out to make it.

I'm 1 for 3 so far. I did the Walk Slim 4 Fast Miles Leslie Sansone DVD this morning, and that has interval training. I'm going grocery shopping for our weekend of RVing in a little while, and will look for a new fruit or veggie to take and try this weekend. Does cleaning the kitchen in the motor home count? I won't be home to take care of the kitchen in the house this weekend.

So far I've done 2 out of 3 challenges - had artichokes for the first time, and also tried a mango salsa. Would eat both again. And I've done the circuit training. Don't know if the kitchen will get done this week, but I'll give it a start! Nice challenges!

We can start the first week as oct 1-5, There are 5 weeks in october so we can have 5 different sets of challanges.

We can also so good habit challanges. We try doing a little bit every day in the place of a bad habit. By the end of the month we may have made a lifestyle change.

i.e. i like a sweet treat at night. tonight, instead of going for chocolate, i grabbed a small apple. sweet but healthy

I am going to be more diligent w/fruits and veggies too. I have slacked off the last couple of weeks because fresh fruit is getting harder to find now. Blueberries are non-existent and they are my favorite!! I really miss them. I ate them every day! I have to eat other stuff though, I can't just let it all go down the tubes.

My challenge is to eat more vegetables, especially at lunch. I just retired so I am home for lunch daily and I am fixing easy things and leftovers and not eating as healthy as I did when I worked. emoticon

I know challanges give me that extra boost to try new things and mix my routine up. I'm no good of thinking of them but I like to do them.
