Those are some great suggestions! Even though I didn't ask the question-I had a c-section and then a hysterectomy, so I have loose skin as well as gaining mainly in my belly. I can tell when belly fat goes, but the loose skin doesn't seem to leave. I just have to hide it more.

My stomach is also my biggest problem. After my 2nd C-section, I had so much fluid and it was a rushed delivery that my stomach was not cut or "stapled" the way it should have been but I have a health toddler now!! What's funny is the doctor asked if I had the dimples before, the last c-section, I said ah no!! So apparently it didn't heal right, or get stapled right. Kindda gross, sorry!! I still work on it!! I'm just greatful to be here with my kids!! But no more kids!!

I haven't tried Zumba yet, but I am going to, I think. Looks like a great ab workout. Plus I love to salsa dance and to dance in general so this looks right up my alley!

I had to see a plastic surgeon for something other then a tummy tuck and I did have a long conversation with him about having a tummy tuck. My tummy is going to be the hardest place I have to tone because that is were I carried most of my weight is thought my mid section. He said the best thing to do was at least 30 min. of cardio being in your target heart rate for 20 min of that. Then all around strength training. Then when I am with in 25 to 30 pounds of my target we will talk again about a tummy tuck.

You won't have the extra skin forever my sisters stomach looks better than mine and she's had 3 kids -I've only had one- but she doesn't have the extra skin she also didn't get as big as I did though My mom had 5 kids and she doesn't have loose skin but she's always been rail thin- too bad I didn't inherit that!- and neither one of them exercises I think as long as you work for it you will achieve the results you want without plastic surgery

I agree that holding your abs tight throughout the day does a lot of good. But, don't forget the cardio. There is muscle underneath a layer of fat (we all have that) and in order to burn off the fat, you need cardio! Remember, you can lose fat in a particular area by spot-training.

Your sister is terribly wrong! I worked out even when I was pregnant. I actually weighed less than my original weight within a couple of months of giving birth. I just ate properly and exercised regularly. I was in a bikini the following summer. You are young, so the muscles and skin will go back if you make a healthy effort to make it happen. I never had problems till I hit my forties because I ate right and stayed active. I started all of my bad habits after the kids moved out.

Work at it and you'll look great in no time. Take full advantage of the articles under "Healthy Lifestyle". Just about anything you need to know is in those articles. I bet that I have read over 300 of them and I'm not even close to reading them all. Your answers are there. Try to read 2-3 a day. You'll learn more than you can imagine.

Unfortunately the belly area is the one place that is commonly known as the hardest place to lose fat.. however, i do a lot of running because that helps to burn the fat and then I do crunches to help tighten.. I hope that helps.. its going to take a little time, but you will start to see the results that you want.. Good luck!

I've had 4 babies, and even tho I am overweight (155 lb) I do have a flat stomach. You can help strengthen those muscles by remembering to hold your stomach in. You don't have to do it super tight, so that you end up holding your breath. Just sit up straight, or stand up straight, and suck that ol' gut in!

I just read the article the best ab exercises- it also says that bicycle crunches are an excellent exercise. Here is the link:

https://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitn
ess_articles.asp?id=191

And here is the link to another abs article the article:
Fitness Secrets for Abs of Steel

https://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitn
ess_articles.asp?id=97

But there is also this note:

Myth #3: Abdominal exercises will help get rid of the fat around your belly. The key to lowering your body fat is burning calories. The best way to torch calories is through cardio. The core muscles are very important to strengthen but unfortunately you donít burn many calories by working them. Therefore, spending most of your exercise time each workout on abdominal exercises doesnít make sense. You will burn many more calories and lose overall body fat in all areas of your body by working your larger muscle groupsÖ quadriceps, upper back, chest, shoulders and hamstring/buttocks. Riding a bike, running on a treadmill, or doing the elliptical works all of these large muscle groups, but itís also important to add a bit more resistance with strength training exercises.

and

What can I do to lose weight in my stomach? Iíve been doing lots of crunches but they donít seem to help.

A There is no way to target weight loss to a specific area of the body because your body decides where it wants to put on weight and where it wants to take it off. The midsection is a common "problem" area for many people.

The best way to lose fat is through cardiovascular exercise. It is important to do a variety of abdominal exercises (including crunches) to keep your core strong, but until that excess fat is gone, you will not see the muscle definition. So if youíre not doing cardio, crunches are not going to help get the six-pack youíve been hoping for. Regular cardio exercise at a level thatís challenging for you is your best bet.

My biggest (litterly) problem is my stomach as well. I think that your sister is exaggerating a bit. Did your mother have loose skin after having you? Typically, the loose skin comes from obsese women that have rapid weight loss. Sometimes this can also be due to large pregnancies. An Indian friend of mine...rail thin...had loose skin on her stomach after having 3 children, but her stomach was still flat!

So is it actually loose skin on your stomach or belly fat? There is a difference. If it's loose skin, they your sister may be correct. If it's belly fat, then cardio will take care of that.

Hopefully it's belly fat. If so, cardio is your answer along with some type of stomach exercise. Check out the videos on this site for core exercises. Coach Nicole has a 10-15 minute ab video that I really enjoy doing. Unfortunately, crunches alone will not flatten your stomach. If you are doing crunches only, you are going to end up like me. I have fat on top of my two ab muscles.

It's going to take time. The place where we store the most fat is the area that is the hardest to loose.

Good luck

Nope, it won't be there forever, but it takes a ton of time and commitment and work to make it improve for most of us. Don't despair, though - just remember, your body just did a major piece of work for you, and your little reward will far outweigh the flabby belly! After 2, I finally realized that it will never be the same, but the rewards of parenting make it all worth while.

The belly won't hang forever. You just have tofigure it was stretched all out of proportion for the baby. It will just take some time for it to tone back up. You also need to remember the abdominal muscles were separated for all that too. It will take time and work, but you can do it. Fitness.com has an Ab-a-thon going on with some fantastic exercises.

I can do this!!

I am in a similar situation, though my stomach much more flabby than yours by the looks of your picture. I am on a Mission to trim my belly by any exercise available to me-- so I can tell you I have tried Pilates, The Bar Method (there are videos for this), yoga and most recently-- belly dancing. And I gotta say it takes perseverance but I am finally starting to see results. Don't give up! It takes hard work but you will see results! Also, remember that the first place you gain weight is the last place you will see results. (for me it has been the belly)

They have transformations on bodybuilding.com they used weight training. They have really nice abs on there. Starting from people that were 200 lbs like myself. I started do weights and it took 3 weeks for my stomach to shrink. No its not going to be there forever. You do have to work at it tho. I went from a size 16 to size 12 doing weight training. I am so toned I have rock hard calfs. I put in 30 minutes a day on weight training. I take a day break to rest. I am light on cardio I had a knee injury from the cardio. You can do it. emoticon

My biggest problem is my stomach which all it does is hang since I had my baby. According to my sister my stomach will always hang because of having a baby is that true. She also said that I would have to have a tummy tuck to have a flat belly. Another question what are the best exercises for the stomach, right now I am only using my ball to do crunches on it any suggestion that will help tighten my belly.
