Normally, I would start off my workout with 20 minutes of cardio. 45 minutes of strength training, and finish off by doing 20 more minutes of cardio. When I get done doing that, I then strech out for my cool down. But I always start by streching first.
When it is the cool of the day, the family will go to the park and play basketball, and finish the day with 2 hours of tennis. We play basketball for an hour or so. It sounds like alot, but it works.
I have tried to go to the gym by myself, but I usually take my 2 boys. No big deal

When I do the circuit, I do 3 reps of between 12 and 15 motions, depending on how strong I'm feeling each machine. Sometimes, I start out stronger and can do the 15 motions, but then by the 3rd time through, I'm struggling so I do only 12 motions. If I don't have my cardio class that day (hip hop, zumba or tai chi) I do the treadmill for between 20 and 30 min before getting on the machines. Now I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to just do 15 min warm up, and then go ahead and divide the workout into parts ( the way the trainer has it listed) and do cardio between every 3 machines.

I have looked at differnt tools that measure calories burned. They all give different numbers even when i enter in my weight. I don't worry as much about the calories burned as i do about how i feel during and after the workout.

I agree with what the PP has said. How intense is the circuit that you do? If it's intense then I would log it as plain circuit Training in the tracker. If it's not that intense and you're only spending 30 seconds at each station then I would log it as Curves circuit.

Right above the Curves circuit there is a plain circuit training to click on. You put in how many minutes and it calculates the calories under cardio. find out if you are doing real circuit training. That usually involves doing one or two sets of an exercise with a moderate weight and then doing 60secs of cardio like jumping jacks or the spin cycles. If that is what you are doing count it as circuit training. If you are doing a circuit of machines with no cardio in between I would count each exercise under strength training where you can record the sets, reps, and weight you are using. I hope that helps. You can always go to the fitness message board and put in a question to the coaches on SP.

I know that Curves is a gym, but I was wondering if I could use the circuit that I do at my gym and have it count here. Or what about Ladies Workout Express? If worse came to worst, I can just list everything I do, but I know that I'm getting cardio doing what I do at the gym, and if I list, I'm not able to find out how many calories I'm burning, unless I get a heart monitor.
Thanks, Judi

The Curves is a program at a Curves Gym. It is a gym for ladies only and has some kind of program you can do in 30mins. If you join Curves that is what you would choose for your exercises.

Thanks to everyone who answered. I have one more question. What is the curves circuit court in the exercise part? How does that differ from other strenght/cardio circuits?

You could enter it into your favorites on cardio and list how long you do that.
I also belong to a fitness club and I also have a personal trainer. And I love the stuff that she asks me to do.

Another option for the Zumba and Cardio Hip Hop would be to get a heart rate monitor. I have one and I love it. There's no more trying to figure out what to list exercise dvds as and no more wondering whether the numbers on the tracker are accurate. If you don't want to get one I would log them like the PP suggested.

Here's the ask an expert answer to your question about recording calories burned through strength training.

Not only is it too difficult to figure out the number, strength training actually doesn't burn all that many calories anyways. The benefit is that the muscles that you build during strength training will burn more calories for you when you put them to work.

I think Zumba and Cardio Hip Hop would go under Dance (incl. Turbo Jam). As for the weights, SP does not include calories burned on this. There is an article somewhere I think under message boards. If I remember correctly, it states everyone burns a different amt of calories with weights and it burns differently so, unless you are doing circuit training the calories are not listed. If you are doing circuit training this is on the list. Hope that helps.

I posted this on the 50's forum but then I thought maybe this might be a better place for my answers. I belong to a gym and every month, I'm allowed a personal trainer who revamps my strenght training routine. I know how to list the exercises here on this site, but how does it keep track with the calories burned? Maybe I should ask if it does keep track of calories burned?
I'm also taking a Zumba class and next week I'm going to try Cardio Hip Hop, but here they are not listed. There is dance (fast, disco) or Kickboxing with includes Turbo Jam. What should I put Zumba and Cardio Hip Hop under?
Thanks,
Judi emoticon
