Hi Everyone, I just wanted to share with you how simple it is to check your heart rate. All you have to do is find you heart beat either in your wrist or neck...if your working out it is probably bounding out of your neck any way.
Find your Heart beat and then get a watch/clock emoticon with a second hand on it. Count your beats for 10 seconds then times it by 6 or count it for 15 seconds and times that number by 4.
After working out not so steadily, couple x a week or so since Jan. I was at work the other day and put my finger in a pulse/oxygen moniter and had a HR of 66 and that is with being up and going for about 2 hours...not so resting.
Have a great week, and hope this helps....I can't afford $150 for a HR moniter when God gave me the ability to count, and school gave me the knowledge.
Just a side note, if you smoke it will affect both your heart rate and your blood pressure.
Jabe emoticon

I can do ALL things through Christ who gives me strength! (Phil 4:13)
With FAITH the size of a mustard seed can move mountains! (And me)(Mt. 17:20)
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

I did alot of research and found the ones with the straps to be more accurate...they say that with the strap it continually monitors and you don't need to slow your pace to check it....I don't even notice the strap.....just my .02$

I got a Sportline HR monitor so that I did not have to mess with a chest strap. I can check it easily throughout the day. Disadvantage is that it does not give continuous readout while exercising. I have to touch the index finger on one hand to opposite wrist which I can do in most cases without stopping the exercise.

I have thought about getting one, our middle school has some they don't use anymore so I may borrow one of those for awhile before I invest that much money.

I have the polar F-11, would be lost with out it...make sure your measure your resting heart rate before even getting out of bed, if the alarm wakes you lay for a couple minutes and then do it....

My polar was 150.00

Any suggestions for a good heart monitor and type to get? I have never monitored this at all and think I'm ready now that I'm exercising quite a bit every day!

My resting heart beat prior to starting SP on 4/3 was 90 - 100!!! I was sooooo out of shape and ready for a heart attack or stroke I'm sure! I have it down now with the help of getting into exercising everyday here at Boot Camp. It is running about 80 now and I'm working towards 60 as a goal. That is pretty good I think for 1 month of exercising!!

Change is whats hard, but its change that will reveal all the wonders that life has to offer

I wrote a blog on this a while back. My heart monitor is my best friend! When I first started I wasn't paying attention to it and had extreme chest pain (and a pretty steady heart rate over 220!) when I finally started watching it and slowing down when it spiked it actually improved my workouts. I have the best time now and chest pain is gone. Now I can work really really hard and it doesn't go above 180. HOW AMAZING IS THAT?!!! As for the "small 15", LOL Wish I could lose a small 15! I have been busting my butt for four months now and all I've lost is 10lbs. I feel better though and my clothes no longer feel like they are too small. So it's doing something, it's just not as fast as those stupid commercials I keep seeing "I lost 30 pounds in half an hour!" nonsense. I know it's not true, but man I wish it was...

That's so great for both of you. emoticon I haven't check my heart rate but I know I lost 10lbs and several inches in several different areas. I'm going to go shopping this weekend. I know I need alot of new things in a smaller size. Don't have much money but it will be fun to see the size different so when I have the money I will know what sizes to look for.

Wow! A resting heart rate of 50 is awesome! That is a great accomplishment.

And losing 15 pounds and getting off your BP medicine! I am so impressed with both of you. You are inspirations to me. Thanks for sharing.
