Hi everyone! I am new to this site, and was sooo excited to see a team on FISHING!! I LOVE IT!! I live in Mass, and it is getting colder out and darker sooner, so I don't have much time now to go. But there is nothing like getting a good fight from a largemouth bass!!! I have also started kayaking and tried fishing from that....little bit of a challenge, but next year will be better!! Thanks for listening!
Peace and Love~
Michelle

I live Bristol, home of the world's fastest half mile; VA/TN border. It doesn't really get cold enough here to go ice fishing. Sounds fun, I really don't know much about it. If I were to take a trip up north anyone have any tricks, special bait, places, any advise willing to give? I am a night fishing girl. There is nothing better than fishing by the moonlight. Last Friday it was almost full and shining like the sun, we were on the South Holston Lake and everyone did well. This time of year there wasn't anyone there...yea no line at the dock and good parking. I caught 5 smallmouth bass- one of which was tiny tiney (someones got to have the smallest, lol) I was sticking with my rootbeer pig and jig it always has been the best for me. I did cast out a watermelon red crawldad and a camo lizard a few times, couple bites. I am sad we couldn't go out tonight. Maybe next Friday night the conditions will be better.

Its not the size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog.

Well......
It finally quit raining long enough for me to get to go fishing !!!!
They weren't bitting-just nibbling. I did manage to catch 2 perch & DH caught 2 bass.
Thinking about going again in a little while. The rain is due to move in Monday. So, no fishing next week. Best to go while I can.

The nearest place for us to fish-you need a boat & I prefer walking along the banks. Where I love to fish is about 20 miles away:(

It sounds like I have a major advantage with having a lake about 50 feet from the door. I can go out and fish for 15 minutes if I want. No real travel time and if it is too hot or cold I can go back inside for a while.

Well, I caught one - teeny tiny bass - about 5 inches long, BUT - I caught it on a spinner! Net already knows this, but I've never caught one on a lure. The spell has been broken - yay!

Hi,
I'm new to this topic. I live at a small lake. I just read a few of the last comments. All I can say about them is to remember a bad day fishing is better than a good day a work.

Some days they just don't bite, but is so fun to try.
Practice might not make perfect, but it definately improves your odds :)
I live in the deep south. I fish late fall-early spring. Winds-temps-& high pressure systems factor in when fishing.
Give me winds out of the west with a high pressure system ontop of us & I normally catch a good amount of fish. But, DH can outfish me most days :(

My best advice is to learn from the ones who are catching the most fish. If they are doing it, they have learned how. They can teach you better than any book or web-site :)

I want to learn how to fish better. Usually have been fishing lakes. In the past have caught trout, when I used to go with an old boyfriend. This year, I caught a few. But everytime I go somewhere, the guys say, oh not that way, do this....how do they know what to do? Any special books to read? Ways to tie and rig a pole correctly? HELP!!!!

We use to tournament bass fish but I have allot more fun just fishing, catching some rays emoticon (sunshine) and showing up my husband. We try and have a competition on who will catch the biggest fish as the other has to buy dinner. Guess who hasn't paid for a dinner in a long time....... emoticon

Panfish is always fun. I've never eaten any of them though. We catch bass, crappie, catfish, carp and other assorted small game fish. My son and I are trying to catch walleye, sauger, or muskie, but no luck there yet. (We fish in the Allegheny River in addition to lakes when we have time to travel short distances).

You got me with the guitar fish. I had to google it so I knew what you were talking about. It looks like a sting ray/manta ray of some sort. Very cool. Fun to hear about the species in other areas.

My favorites are panfish. They're SO tasty and because they're small fish, they're safer to eat from a pollution/mercury standpoint. (Sad that our world has come to that...) Besides that, they are purely FUN to catch! Hubby and I aren't equipped for walleye or northerns, but we'd like to be eventually. I also plan on trying my hand at some trout stream fishing, but not fancy fly fishing. We don't have the money for lots of gear, but we can make-do with a couple of different rigs each.

When I used to live in various parts of California I had others I liked to catch. Up in central CA, I used to catch stripers, in So Cal I'd catch catfish from the Colorado River, catfish and trout from stocked reservoirs and various fish from coastal lagoons or piers. That was always fun - you never knew what you might catch! I caught a lobster once (which I threw back since it apparently wasn't lobster season and another time a guitarfish.

Oh man, I'm getting cabin fever BAD now, lol...

Came across my first frozen lake the other day. Definitely not thick around here yet. Temps are fluctuating too much! I'll watch from the shoreline for now.

I've never gone ice fishing but I've always wanted to give it a try. I don't have a shack or an auger though and don't know anyone who goes ice fishing. It's only a minor interest though, so no big deal. I do want to resolve to get out fishing more in the good weather. Especially since we have a canoe, we have NO excuse not to get out and fish!

We saw quite a few people out doing it this weekend. It amazes me to see them walk out as far as they do. That is one of the benefits though I guess. If you don't have a boat then ice fishing gives you a chance to get out to the good spots;) I will be sure to let you know how it goes.

I am told that here around Maine it's pretty safe come Feb. but they have been showing on the news lately those who just couldn't wait and ended up falling in. Not wise;)

We are lucky because the military base sets it all up for us and we go with a certified guide. We are excited about trying something new out.

I think that would make an awesome reward for the New Year! Go for it;)

We don't have any ice right now (surprisingly! I've never been ice fishing and have to admit that I'm slightly afraid of it.

I used to skate on a pond when I was a kid and can remember the ice cracking under me. I don't think I would've drowned, but I can remember it so vividly. My heart pounds when I think about it.

I am done until I pick up the new license in the next week or so. I should use it as a reward for my first 5 lb loss this year. That'll make me work for it.

I know that there are allot of fishing fans here. I did quite a bit of it this past summer with the fam.

Right now here in Maine the lakes and rivers are starting to freeze over with ice. We are taking the kids, for the first time, ice fishing in Feb. That is the soonest you can go safely and do it. Dont' know anything about it, but that is the fun part right? Anyone else been ice fishing?
