Nancy, I'm glad you've been able to get out some! It makes a huge difference! We've been thawing the last couple days and today was over 60 degrees so that water was running in places I've never seen; but I've only lived here for 4 years.

I have had a couple of days where I could do an outdoor run -- it felt great to be outside again. I live on gravel roads so when it is spring time the roads are a mixture of slush, ice, snow, and mud. So, it was good to get out there before it got to slushy.

Now, another snow storm is coming.

Nancy, do you think it's the 'winter blues'? I get that way around this time of year, too, and I think it's just the lack of sunshine and a little spring fever. Maybe try getting out a little more if possible and check out some seed catalogs if you're a gardener.

I don't know what hit me, but I am feeling bleh. I have no appetite but am finding myself eating junk = chocolate covered marizapan bars. Those things are fattening and I am wearing them. Today is the day I am getting back on track. I need to take care of me and stop with this nonsense of eating junk.

I'm glad you're feeling good results! I notice the difference, too, but my motivation has been so low the last year that I ignore the 'little voice' and eat whatever is in front of me anyway.

Sorry you're in a funk! Do you have plans for Christmas?

I’m flying out of DIA this evening to spend the next 3 days with my older son in Phoenix. It’s a 5 hour drive to the airport so I’ll be leaving around 4 pm and getting back home around 6 am Wed. I’m excited about the trip now. I was getting a little anxious earlier this week because it’s supposed to be so cold while I’m gone. My dog is 12 years old and I worry about leaving him out in the cold but I got a heat lamp to hang above his bed in the shed and have my brother and my landlord to feed him so I think he’ll be okay. The tank heater that I have for the horses’ water seems to be keeping up so they won’t have to worry about chopping ice. Leaving home is so much more stressful when I don’t have Tom here to take care of things.

I am feeling sorry for myself. I am in a funk. My blog would explain.

For Christmas Eve, I am making a crockpot of wedding soup. I cannot wait!

Maybe I could make some buckeyes too. I found a super easy recipe on YouTube. One jar of peanut butter and one jar of chocolate icing. Just layer the two. I lack common sense and was thinking it would be too technical for me to do.

Should I start a blog about cookbooks? Members could share favorite recipes from any cookbook that they want. Maybe THAT would get me out of this funk?

Be good because Santa is watching.

Hi everyone! Just returned from a 6 day trip and learned that trips and holidays are not a time for over indulgences or to throw my goals out the window... but to keep them and my health in mind with every choice. For the most part I made great ones resulting in being a pound lighter, which I'm very happy and proud of. To thought provoking healthy days. Cheers!

I'm just completely out of control! I weigh myself every day and was up 5 pounds from Sat. to Sun. I'm drinking waaaay too much Jack and Coke but just don't seem to be able to come home from work and do anything.

Those stretch jeans are pretty amazing, aren't they emoticon

i am bouncing up and down but staying within range. Trying not to obsess over the number on the scale because it is only a part of the story.

A friend gave me some jeans (those skinny jean type) I can get into them and zip them up. But if it were not for the stretchy material I am not sure I could wear them. Just don't look. ;-)

I told my husband the numbers and his response was "well, that's not going to happen." That is because I am now at my high school and early adult weight and the only time I dropped below that was when we went on a paleo type diet. But, my calorie intake was low, 800 calories a day because the plan we were following was low carb and cut out starchy vegetables and whole grains. -- not sustainable in my book. I went off with a peanut buster parfait binge and been struggling with my eat healthy ever since. I wonder what would have happened if I went off with a potato binge instead. (I'll never know)

Wow! That's a little different than Spark figures. According to this, at 5' and 50 years old, I should be 94.7lbs - 128.0 lbs. I ran between 120 and 125 in high school and could never get below 130 after the first child, which was a c-section. Well, I finally did get below 130 after I left my husband and before Tom and I moved in together. Would love to get back there! I actually felt good then. That's what I focus on; I'm not comfortable in any sense at 163 emoticon

I just did the ideal weight calculation on www.calculator.net/bmi-calculator.ht
ml
and was surprised to see that in order for me to be at my ideal weight, I should lose about 10 more pounds. I'll aim for 5 and see how doable that is.

Those calculations are lower than what i was as a teenager and young adult, before children.
Not sure I can make it that low since that is not where my setpoint has been in the past.

It'll be interesting to see if I can do it. I am more concerned about body fat % than the number on the scale.

Part of it is the convenience; I stopped for fast food on the way home from work last night simply because I didn't feel like fixing what I wanted to eat. I should have put forth the effort; mine would have been way better.

The convenience and the 'comfort food' mind set both do me in on a regular basis. I know that cutting up a salad would taste better and sit better but that frozen pizza only takes 2 min. in the microwave!

I don't why it such a struggle to eat food, real food. Other than the fact that there is so much overly processed items that are called food,but are not really food. It is just a bunch of lab-produced ingredients put together in a package that entices us to eat more and more and more.

I must constantly remind myself that I feel so much better if and when I only eat real food.

I made it through yesterday without eating any junk food. I realize that it is all about choices. I ate a huge salad before I drove into town. My salad was romaine, onion, bell pepper, califlower and tomato and hemp seed. I was concerned about stopping at a convenience store for chips or candy so I made 3 peanut butter and corn tortillas before I left.

Went to a Bible study and there was coffee and cookies. I thought about grabbing a couple of oreos, but they were the mint (= food dyes). My grandson has sensitivity issues with food dyes so I try to avoid them also.

I had thoughts of stopping on the way home but told myself that a bowl of cereal with fruit would satisfy my sweet craving.

I feel good about my choice to NOT eat junk food yesterday.

Are we ever going to get this right! I went through a couple months of supplements and tried to follow the jist of the meal plans, to no avail. The usual meal plans contain so many ingredients that we just can't get around here, so they are basically void. The supplements didn't really make any difference at all. I read 'top 10' or 'top 7' or whatever they come up with for ways to lose weight and I'm doing most of them, but still not losing. I don't seem to be gaining anymore, but not losing either.

The fatigue issues continue; I've ordered a 'therapy light'. It lights up a half hour before your alarm is set to go off and gets brighter, gradually, until the alarm goes off. I also ordered some ashwagandha supplements... and some No Fear energy drink in case the other products don't work emoticon

I am trying to figure out why I keep giving in to eating junk food. I think that somewhere deep inside my brain is the thought that if I do not eat it then someone else might. Heaven forbid if I should share!

This realization came to me when my hubby pulled out a chocolate covered coconut bite in front of our grandson and would not share. When gs asked why he couldn't have any, gpa ignored him. Seriously?! You pull out a snack and eat it in front of him and not give him any?!

It brought back memories of my childhood when I would eat all my treats in one sitting just so my younger sister couldn't eat any of it. And too many times I have come to the realization that when there is candy or chips in the house I eat too much just in case hubby finds out it's in the house and eats it all before I get to it.

Any ideas of how to get over this?

I hear you - it is very stressful to have so much junk in the house. Maybe you can talk to him about moving it to a different shelf or a different cabinet. Maybe by isolating it in one area, you won't visit it that often, and it will be easier to fill your sight level in the pantry with your healthy & delicious substitutes!

Sorry to hear about your health issues. I hope you get it figured out and can start to see results. I am struggling with my eating too much junk. Still, but I am slowly gaining control. I wish hubby would get on board because having all this junk in the house is starting to wear on me. It makes me less resistant to just say "no"

Going to be hitting this really hard this week. I've spoken with a dr. about the weight gain and he thinks I may have some insulin and thyroid issues so I've got supplements on the way and going to kick the sugar. The weight just HAS to start going down or I'm likely to explode!

OK. Day three of the "Tame the Sweet Tooth" challenge. I had a tiny corner piece of chocolate this morning. Earlier, sugar free chocolate chia seed pudding. And then around 10 this morning I had half of one of the mini cliff bars that has about 9 grams of sugar, so I had around 4.5 grams.

Strengths: I do well with identifying and saying no, unless I'm really hungry or dinner is far off, in which case I always find a way to justify.

My sweet substitute is fruit (in moderation), and bell pepper strips. (Which makes me realize that what's missing in the taste is plain sugar addiction of things like chocolate.) But they;re still satisfying.

Corrective action: I have mini cliff bars before karate class. Instead, I'm going to throw some celery or a bell pepper and PB 2 into my bag. It's so hard when sugar is EVERYWHERE and in EVERYTHING and labeled as "healthy!" Not.

I just joined the team and am working to cut sugar ( both real & diet ) out of my food plan. I have cut all soda's completely ( 7 months & counting ).

My freggie intake is slipping. Usually that means that I'm loading up on all kinds of other stuff, but I really haven't been. Not sure what I need to do to get them all in. I really haven't been snacking a lot and that's usually where I get the extra servings.

I managed to make it through the day with no pop, beer, or energy drink. Had ice cream for dessert, though. The good news: the ice cream is gone.

I have been wondering that same thing, but as I go through some of the member's pages I see that they are not active anymore. I have been finding that interest in certain things goes in spurts on the internet. Some pages that were very active a couple years ago, now have no activity on them at all.

I want to keep this team alive, because I need to tame that sugar monster in me and put him in his proper place.

Taming the sugar beast is NOT an easy thing to do. I usually start with banning the obvious sugar first--candy, cookies, soda, etc. If you can do that for 3 or 4 days, it gets easier after that.

So, in the spirit of accountability - January hasn't been grate, food and diet wise, but I really want to tame the sugar beast. Current goal is to eat responsibly for today and the next 4 days, and keep going with it into February. Today was great - t more days to go!

I feel as though I need to say, "Hello, my name is ____ and I'm a sugar-holic." Because, in fact, that is where I am.
I love that this team is here. Hopefully, I can find accountability. Or the strength to make a resolute decision about letting go of sweets. The moment they're in my house, they're in my mouth. The goal will be to not bring them in my house.
That being said, I would like to have maybe some organic, dark, chocolate bars on hand (plain w/no additional flavorings) so that when I get a craving, I can savor one square.
I think that's what the plan will be.
Here's to Day 1.

Merry Christmas! Hope everyone is having decent weather or doesn't have to travel. We're under a winter weather advisory today through noon tmrw. Had our celebration with family yesterday so don't have to go anywhere.
How is everyone handling the Christmas goodies? I'm doing ok so far but they just keep coming. Throwing out what I made and ended up bringing home; just don't want it around.

Oh my gosh, I've had the munchies so bad this week! I haven't had a soda since Sat. but I'm craving salt really bad. I've been going way overboard on trail mix and some oatmeal stuff that I mix here at home. It gives me heartburn and makes me bloated, but I eat it anyway. How stupid is that?!

Yes, I am cutting out sugar completely, that means no candy, chocolate, ice cream etcetera.
I am not worrying right now about small amounts of sugar like in ketchup or other condiments or in a frozen vegetable - things I do not eat often nor a lot of, and that would be hard to substitute. I don't drink soda.

Are you cutting sugar completely, or is there a certain food that you're trying to avoid? I'm struggling with Coke right now and trying to stay off of it completely. I get really tired at work, though, and use it for a pick-me-up since I don't drink coffee.

emoticon peel, roll one end in dark choklit then chopped nuts, freeze, eat...

I use a small banana or break a large one in 1/2.

I find this doesn't trigger my sweet tooth like ice cream. Some times the super dark choklit will help to break my sweet craving, like a square in the evening with my evening snack. That is when I crave sweets the most...
