I posted this in the Slowest Loser team board and am wondering if anyone else feels this way...

I take issue with the verbiage "paying the price" because it sounds too negative, and for me, it's simply not true! "Paying the price" is what what happening when I was at my heaviest. This is all GOOD stuff! (That doesn't mean it's easy, of course.)

But no, I haven't "paid the price" today at all; I've done things that are good for me today.

Today I payed the price by doing 85 minutes of exercise and limiting my food intake. Just 1 small dessert tonight. I don't regret it already.

@ Boo, today at the store I also remembered the slogan, "You can't eat it if you don't buy it!"

Tonight I'm paying the price by not eating any cookies with my evening cup of tea....I really binged on them big time last night.

I don't totally regret last night's indescretion...but, tonight just want to not give into something that might escalate.

Glad you guys enjoyed the blog. I do enjoy his sriting. I am not sure where I talked about one of his blogs before. I'll check my favorites to see if I can find it.

For me, paying the price tonight means no more candy bars. I'll be paying it...

Since he doesn't carry the burden of having to be "an expert", it may be easier to get down to the nitty gritty and be blunt and honest. It's an interesting situation, isn't it?

It's easy to remember his little comments. When I'm at the store now, I often think "You can't eat what you don't buy."

He's a good writer and he often makes some good points. It's kinda funny in a way that he's not really supposed to be one of the 'experts', but he often does much better at providing helpful blogs than they do.

Wow, great blog! Thanks, Cassie!

I also loved the part about not regretting having dessert the next day, being proud you didn't.
And this paragraph:
"When we commit ourselves to paying the price, we're doing more than just improving our health and reaching for other goals. We're saying "No" on principle to mediocrity, lethargy, blame, shame, excuses, disappointment, self-loathing and, saddest of all, squandered potential. And we're saying "Yes" to enthusiasm, performance, purpose, striving, integrity, character and life. "

Wonderful!

Great blog. I really like the way Bruce Corwin (Slowest Loser team leader) thinks and writes.

I found this blog particularly inspiring today so I've condensed it and am including the link.

The title is "what has been easy about losing 25 pounds in a year." He says NOTHING about it has been easy. People may think that losing weight slowly is leisurely and somehow easy, but it still entails choices and hard work. He goes on to say this:

There are two great things about paying the price for weight loss and health. One, you never regret it the next day.

Two, you realize that when you're paying the price, you're actually paying yourself transferring currency from your interest-free, status-quo account to your personal responsibility account, which pays interest and dividends. So when you pay the price, you're the one who gets enriched.

Paying the price doesn't necessarily mean running eight miles. Depending on who you are, it might mean running 18 miles. Or it might mean walking 80 yards if you could only walk 60 the day before.

"If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself." So says Desiderata, my favorite work of lyrical self-help prose.

Each person's price is different. I don't have to tell you what your price is to have a healthier body and feel better about yourself. You probably already know, but if you need more information, tools and support to figure it out, you've come to the right place at SparkPeople.

Making what can feel like sacrifices in terms of resisting overeating or skipping out on exercising will not be something I regret the next day will hopefully get me through some of the rough patches I've been encountering.

I have been entertaining my spring break 5lbs for two weeks. I would like to relieve myself of them now. I started chopping wood and carrying water more mindfully yesterday.

Today when the urge to overeat at a meal or indulge in unneccessary treats come up I will wrestle through it and remind myself that I will not regret those choices.
