CATHM, Me too! As a kid I once asked my mother, "If Jesus came back, then why don't you believe in ghosts?" She had no answer.

lol I love that... I remember as a kid in Sunday school learning that Jesus died and then came back and I was totally floored that adults believed this.

[spitting out my water] Zombie Jesus!!! emoticon That's hilarious!!!

My mother is a Sunday school teacher...I just may have to put on a straight face and ask her if he's a zombie or a vampire!

(I really wish we had an applause emoticon...because that's fantastic!)

I really enjoyed Easter this year as did my kids. Thanks to a Facebook friend who put it all in perspective for us. What's not to love about zombie Jesus?

He died... right? And came back to life... right? He's either a zombie or a vampire. I'm voting more for zombie due to the time honoured tradition of ripping off and eating chocolate bunny heads.

I'm now into the third chapter of the Geneen Roth book and she's been quite open about saying that "god" is whatever you see as the world spirit, the higher power, the karma, etc. so no shoving a particular belief system down your throat.

The book itself is really good, as I definitely have been ignoring my spirituality for the last few years. What "spirituality" means to me is something I am still working out. It definitely has to do with the natural world. When I was at Yosemite last year, I grinned the whole time. And when I'm out kayaking, it's like church to me, my special place.

I feel like figuring out my spirituality and formally excising my religious past from my brain will help me move forward with who I am now, and that will help with the weight loss, as I work to be my best self physically and emotionally. And the book is right in line with that (at least so far, I'm a slow reader because I have to think about every page!).

I'm located in Pacific Daylight Time.

The "Happy Whatevers" to avoid wasting time and energy debating belief systems, when life can be so short, is definitely in the spirit of separating church and weight.

We celebrate our togetherness, which enhances the support we feel in our weight loss and health improvement issues. We are one, baby!

The book sounds good. I'm also of the non religious viewpoint. I think it's kinda sad that I am a better "Christian" than some I know who are. I believe firmly in treating people the way I want to be treated, being honest, respectful etc. Religion makes me feel very uncomfortable actually.

Smile .... it makes people wonder what you're up to ;-)

It is far easier to MAKE time to exercise than it is to FIND time to exercise. You want results???? MAKE it happen.

Keep trying - you CAN do it - believe in yourself!

Heh. Me, three on the "Happy whatevers". You're spot on correct that it makes no sense to butt that theism discussion into everything ... that could make a 2-second interaction into a prolonged debate! :)

Nah, me for chocolate. Only, I wish it were Belgian or Swiss chocolate rather than the run-of-the-mill candy ...

I did the "live and let live" thing all weekend. People said "Happy Easter" and I would say it back, because to me Easter = Spring, especially since we had a gorgeous Sunday with wildflowers blooming all over. To me, there's no point in the casual encounter of saying "Oh, I don't believe in Easter". The phrase "Happy Easter" is more like "how are you?" -- no one really listens to the response anyways!

If you want to enjoy some of our California Central Coast wildflowers, here's a virtual walk I put on my website:

Go to http://wynnworlds.me/
Click at the top on Pacific Grove Walk
Then click on Play Slideshow.
Enjoy!

It IS a strange belief that a "live and let live" attitude is a ticket to hell, if there is such a place. Oh, well...that's show biz, I guess.

Amen, BARBARA_BOOBOO!

Although I'm not an atheist, I don't believe in organized religion, because I happen to believe religion pollutes spirituality with mortals' personal agendas. In other words, live and let live.

It's amazing how many so-called Christians think I'm going to hell for thinking this way.

In my opinion, religious freedom means we are free to believe or NOT believe. We all have our own way of looking at life.

I'm not embarrassed by my atheism, and my southern relatives are. They like me to keep it on the down-low.

I've done the "God? Oh. That. I don't buy it." bit before - the astounded looks are worth it, but the overdone sympathy and/or attempts to convince me that a) I couldn't mean it, or b) it may not be smart to say so out where others could hear it and judge me ... those I can live without.

Welcome to the team!

Feel free to make any pro- or anti-deity statements you'd like. I don't think we're all that judgemental here. :D

Cheers,
Maya

OK, I just posted a blog entry and in it I actually said "I don't believe in God" because it was pertinent to the point I was making about the book that began the post (Women, Food, and God.) The book, and I'm only in the first chapter, already has helped me in my ongoing struggle to uncover and name my feelings and deal with them. I'm quite the emotional eater, although I am in the process (covered in the blog post) of dealing with that.

I am half-hoping that no one reads that blog post because I don't want to get figuratively stoned by pro-religious people. But I am OK that I did put it in the blog and not edit it out just to avoid offending some people. I've done that all my life and it's one of the big reasons (pun intended!) that I got fat in the first place. I did put a note at the end asking people to respect my truth as I respect theirs. Call it a peace offering, or a defense, either one works for me.

I started *this* message thinking I wanted your support and reassurances, and I still do want them. But I have realized as I'm writing this that I don't obsessively need that support or approval because I wrote in my blog what is true for me. And I am OK with that truth. If someone sends me flaming balls of emoticons, I'll be OK with that too because that's their truth.

As a born-and-raised Catholic, the child of an adult convert (the most dedicated kind of Catholic, in my opinion!), I am finally coming out of the atheist closet. It's liberating. And scary. But I'm out and there's no going back now, at least not with that blog post. I'm not removing it or editing it. It's out there and I am proud of it.

And that's all I wanted to share. Thanks for reading.

I'm located in Pacific Daylight Time.
