I like to listen to House and Trance when I'm running or hiking. If I listen to tunes with a lot of words I slow down and try to sing along . . . which is never pretty. I need to leave the singing to the professionals!

While there are some artists I don't really like in general, their music is great for working out. Here are some of my favorites:

Lady Gaga (Bad Romance, Poker Face)
Black Eyed Peas (Let's Get It Started, I Gotta Feeling)
Eiffel 65 (Blue)
Pink (U and Ur Hand, Please Don't Leave Me)
Shakira (Hips Don't Lie)

I do have a plan to, someday, make a playlist of indie rock that is good for exercise. It's mostly so mopesome! But there are a few exceptions. One that will definitely be on it is Good Arms Vs. Bad Arms by Frightened Rabbit.

Thanks for the thread, I will be coming here to pick out .mp3 rewards.

There are, um, 63 songs on my "upbeat/fun" playlist on my phone, which I listen to when I'm in the gym.

I'll spare you the full list, but some of the artists are:

Eve 6 (rock/industrial-ish?)
Cher (pop)
Barenaked Ladies (pop)
They Might Be Giants (um. odd pop?)
Bon Jovi (rock)
Deirdre Flint (Humorous Folk)
Chely Wright (country)
Melissa Etheridge (rock)
Cyndi Lauper (pop)
Jill Solube (pop)
Donna Lewis (pop/country)
Jo Dee Messina (country)
Bangles (80s pop)
Garth Brooks (country)
Taylor Swift (country)
t.A.T.u (russian pop)
Deanna Carter (country)
Faith Hill (country)

Er. My tastes tend to be pretty eclectic... This isn't definitive, because I only have about 500 songs on my phone at a time, so I rotate. And when I put a new batch in, then I make a new upbeat playlist. :)

I do like the "walk-centric" playlist.

Walk in the Light, Dance in the Shadows.

I have a lot of guitar-based stuff: Sonny Landreth, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Indigenous in a loop for one playlist.

The other fave playlist has a mix of old and new. Newest is Lady Gaga, pretty much anything from her album, although my current pick is Pokerface. I sure hope I'm not singing that out loud as I run :-)

I'm located in Pacific Daylight Time.

This is fun...thanks Char & Valerie! The Pitbull (I Know You Want Me/Calle Ocho) is one of my favorites. You can't NOT move when it's playing.

I also had to get Bad Romance when I heard it. It's a good one.

Just for fun, here's the YouTube of Pitbull:

Mostly I have Blue Man Group. I needed some more ideas...thanks much!

I have a playlist of upbeat, hiphoppish songs because that's what I like to work out to (the music I listen to regularly is a little too mellow/rootsy for running!) :) I like fast, beat-heavy songs.

A sampling:
Empire State of Mind - Jay Z
Shut Up and Let Me Go - the Ting Tings
Bad Romance - Lady Gaga
Calle Ocho (or something) - Pitbull
Hit the Floor - Pitbull
Taking the Long Way Round - Dixie Chicks (an anomoly, I know, but good for when you need to gain that second wind to get up a hill or something).
Johnny Got a Boom Boom - Imelda May
What a World - Common
ManWomanBoogie - QTip

I don't have my iPod with me today, but I'll have to look and get back to you!!

It doesn't matter how slowly you go, only that you don't stop.

I don't have an Ipod but a MP3.
Dang, I just realized I could use it while gardening since weeding can be a bit boring.

I have different playlists, this is one of them for my Strength Training:

Gym Tonic by Bob Sinclair
One more time by Daft Punk
People come People go by David Guetta
Run Run Run by Phoenix
Everybody by Martin Solveig
Tout le bonheur du monde (all the happiness in the world) by Sinsemillia
Du courage (cheer-up) by La Grande Sophie
Ca c'est vraiment toi (that's you through and through) by Telephone
Rock El Casbah by Rachid Taha
King Kong Five by Mano Negra
Devil's music by De-Phazz
Hey You by Run Run Poney Poney
Ding Dang Dong by Les Rita Mitsouko

(all French groups, except De-Phazz who is a German band)

Somewhere I read a blog or an article about great ideas for a playlist to exercise to. At the time I wasn't running. Well, that has recently changed! emoticon .

So what do you have on your iPod? What's your favorite music to move to?

Please share!

Jazzie

PS: Bad grammar in this post. My dad always told me that a preposition was a bad word to end a sentence WITH. I did it thrice above. Had to apologize. Now on with the emoticon emoticon emoticon
