Gizmo. Okay it is not a word really but I loved the only suggestion if gave me:

Jasmine.

Simple wonders. I guess I could call this a form of digital dew drops. ;)

I, too, have run into the correction for "each" being "each" -- what's up with that?

The SP dictionary gave me "scudding" for the long word starting with "s" that I didn't expect it to recognize.

It did recognize all the 4-letter words and phrases I tried. emoticon

Never assume the word purple wont come up in conversation a lot. I learned that the hard way using it as a trigger word for a hypnosis suggestion. Figured since it didn't rhyme etc there should be less "potential" for it to trigger. Oooops. So I still owe her a pair of pants, a nice dinner, and a bottle of wine (and glasses) for using something really poorly thought out. :)

At least it never happened while driving.

ESL=English as a second language. I had lots of English, besides already speaking it anyway. . .

I love those oddities like you posted, about the words.

Now, I'll see what the spell check wants me to put in place of the words with the red underlines--I got it! emoticon

I haven't figured out what ESL means yet, SWIFTY SUE. I love this thread because the spellchecker provides so many interesting and often funny recommended substitutes for words that we type.

Words amuse me. I got an email a few minutes ago with some interesting facts about words. Did you know "stewardesses" is the longest word typed with only the left hand? "Lollipop" is the longest one typed with the right hand. No word in the English language rhymes with month, orange, silver or purple. "Dreamt" is the only English word that ends in the letters "mt".

I have to leave for a class now. I'll leave you to write your month/orange/silver/purple poetry.

I dumbed down my vocabulary when I became an ESL instructor, and it stayed there! It helped to use a small vocabulary of short, simple words for the beginning students.

It's funny, I never used to bother with spellcheck, either, I was so confident (embarassed face). That has changed. Now, if I don't use it, it's because of carelessness.

Sounds like I'm missing the point of the thread, I know (redder face). I only recently learned what those red underlines in my text were for! I ignore them, but right now I can see three.

If I avoid this this thread, it's because I could become obsessive, again--about words and stuff. But I hope you keep it alive as long as you want, or just start new ones, and no one's going to call you that word you said. Promise.

Okay I know most common text/web/game texting abbreviations are not in most common dictionary tools. However I still find some of them funny. Today's notable entry:

STFU ...

Only suggestion it gave me was STAFF. In all caps no less. Just that one suggestion. Which made me think of all the times I donned a shirt saying that. And how it often did exactly that when people saw you coming ... sigh.

Okay there has to be some other more interesting words. My lexicon, for all its glory, is often limited as I try and not be a pretentious a-hole and suppress many of the Scrabble worthy words I should be using ...

Keeping this thread alive since this is the only team where I seem to be able to call myself an a-hole and people dont start asking me what anti-depressants I'm on.

Preemptive.

Okay, it had many of the same derivative words but was missing this one. Huh? And it added a bunch of other suggestions I think out of embarrasment. :)

I think this dictionary needs an enema.

Sometimes I'm so aware of the falling down of human culture in general.
Did you know where 'doing the dozens' started? There used to be semi competitions in Ireland of cursing for hours- no duplications allowed. I once read a book that had 18 pages of cursing, not a bit of which Sparks would have had trouble with. Sort of 'your Momma' level of cursing.
Mattress back.
Flea bitten scum.
Vile receptacle of putrid fluids.

Ahh, the days of thinking when you curse... kind of fun. Makes my a$$ or d@mm seem- lame.

Let's try misspelling our cuss words. It will correct them, but it won't think they're profane.

Yeah, the profanity is one that has confused me a couple of times as well.

The "each" problem with dictionary programs is an old one. I swear this one has an old demon living with it. It is one of those words you are supposed to avoid. But it has acceptable uses ... I like to think of it as being the disembodied soul in demon form of a grammar nazi or schoolmarm that has decided to make people consider its usage here. Keeps me from wanting to sound like I have tourettes while on the computer.

And oddly enough it is not happy with tourettes either. I guess it really is avoiding the very nature of profanity here.

Replace "Lambeau" (where Packers play) with "limbo"
(Must have something to do with Favre)

Replace "lite" with "late, lute or like"
Replace "each" with "each" (??) or "etch"

Never heard of Fibrin--interesting in spite of the jargon Wikipedia thinks is too much

I've found the spell checker to be quite a hoot- they get methinks, and forsooth, and verity, but not...
blogs?
Yeah, not blogs. Oh, wait.... this is the first thyme they DIDN'T say that was misspelled. Blimey, could they have upgraded a tad?
(They do have thyme... spices are good.)

I love irony.

I think it would be fun to continue sharing some of the spelling corrections/suggestions that "spell check" would have us use. Strange and often funny. I'll make a mental note to bring the real "treasures" here.

Okay, I know this is bitter sarcasm, but I'm still a little shocked at the base dictionary they are using here sometimes. Not to mention that fact there is better code to be used to make the spelling corrections/suggestions more accurate ...

Today it didn't know the word: Zealotry.

Why am I even bothering to mention it? Because the irony behind the fact the word that would define so many of the folks on SP that lead me to this team is not included.

I know I'm asking an awful lot for something that is "free" but I just couldn't help but notice I seem to add quite a few words or otherwise force that spellchecker to submit more often that I'd like.

Just thought ya'll might appreciate this one.
