My friend uses floating row covers and has veggies all year too. I am going to look into them. They are a bit pricey but seem worth the investment.

There's always a lot to be thankful for if you take time to look for it. For example, I am sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt.

My daughter (from Utah where it gets quite cold) told me that lettuces will grow all winter if you just keep the snow off them. In other words the cold won't kill them but the snow on the leaves will. She said that she was able to harvest and eat lettuces and greens all winter without bringing them in. She said what she did was just go out after each snow and get it off the plants..

The lean too is in the garage to my house and the mini fruit trees are in there. I have the lettuce, spinach, garlic and tomatoes by my sliding glass doo and bay window. I am going to see how they turn out and if it is good I will put them in the lean too because it stays 48 to 65 + without heat and I have 2 florencent lights in it. I also have a samll ceramic heater that I only use when the weather gets down to the 20's which it has lately. Everything is growning and the 1 tomato bush is about3 feet and has about 10 blossoms on it. I have it staked up in the pot. I have several really big pot that I can use.. If the fruit trees stay alive then I will do more next year. There is nothing like picking lettuce when snow is on the ground and knowing there is more to come. Good luck with yours and stop thinking do it.

I am a very easy going gal that loves people and wants to know as many as I can. I want to make new friends so I can enjoy more of life. When people get to 55 or 60 there are some that think life should be over but guess what it is just beginning. Maybe 50 years ago it was over but not now people are living longer and working in their 70's. I would have been if I didn't have leukemia and it does not stop me but I have good days and bad, so being home if I need rest, I rest, at work I couldn't do

I'm digging the base for my greenhouse this weekend. When it arrives and I get it set up, the first thing I'm going to get growing are cole crops-broccoli, cauliflower, 1 batch of spinach, perhaps some sugar snap peas. I'm hoping that the greenhouse will allow me to grow all winter where I live-zone 8 northwest-but I doubt I'll be able to grow anything but cool weather veggies through the winter and that's OK. I'm not planning to add electricity, so there won't be any added light or heat. If I can add some variety a little earlier in the year and extend my growing season another month or 6 weeks, I'll be very happy with that.

Wow that is wonderful :) I too also think about it but never do it. Here in Sunny NM I could probably get away with just cold framing .It has just not made it to the top of the to do list yet.

I have thought about it in the past but it has never gotten beyond the 'thinking about' stage. I would love to have a small greenhouse so I could have some winter plantings but the cost of a greenhouse is too much right now. I would just love to grow greens for salads.

Since i am in Sussex De. it is cold and I don't plant outside. This years I installed a lean too in my garage. I have started lettuce, cabbage, garlic, 3 kinds of tomatoes and spinach in pots in my house. I have been eating the lettuce for months. Tomatoes have blossoms and the garlic in about a half a foot tall. Do you have any ideals about winter planting.
