Hi James,

Where in the world have you been??? We missed you
on here.

We haven't had any snow, not a flake, but ask me if
all the creeks and bayous are full??? Yup...in some
cases, overflowing...

At least it is sunny today, if a little chilly..

I got to ride 75 miles today! It started out foggy, and the roads were wet, but it got warmer as the day went on. It may have to hold me for a while, as we're supposed to have another rainy front move in tomorrow.

That is so true...we need to appreciate the here and now while we have it. So sorry, BIGTIM, for your loss. My thoughts are with you and their families...always difficult, but ESPECIALLY difficult this time of the year.

No worries all! You will get your shot at riding,as the weather permits! Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season. Just buried four comrades, and only can hope that we all can appreciate what we have, while we are in a position to appreciate it! I haven't gotten to ride since the Saturday after Thanksgiving. That day was the last that wasn't cold and/or drizzling. We've also had heavy fog the last few mornings. Ick. There's hope for tomorrow and Thursday, though. Rain may come back on Friday, but I hope it's gone by Saaturday, the day for our Toy Run here.

Sniff, sniff...just put the baby away for the winter. We had our first batch of snow Saturday night and we're looking for more mid-week. We usually have a lot of polar bear runs but I just can't seem to do it this year!

Counting down the days to summer in this neck of the woods...

Central TX HD has its toy run this coming Saturday. I'll help with parking for all the bikes we expect. I hope it's not too cold. Early weather reports say it should be in the 40's or 50's early in the morning and up to maybe 60's by afternoon. Hope many bikers with toys & $$ come out for the event. ALL types of bikes are welcome!

Hey all- I finally got a short ride in on Saturday! We had the toy run, what a hoot. They estimate over ten thousand bikes participated.

It's been dropping down to about 14 degrees at night here, so the freeway at 80mph was a little cold!

It works keep looking, Since i am a new cyclist they taught us this in class for our figure eights and any time really.

When I got my license we were out driving on some back roads and I had to make a left turn. All I kept seeing was field, when I turned my head where I wanted to go the bike follows.....it was amazing and scary for me,,,,,,,,,,,LOL

I think this technique works in many cases. I have had my bright orange Toyota for a year, and have been hit 3 times already, more than with any other of my cars. I think people see its bright color & fix on it. This leads them to bump it, showing me they went where they were looking!

Hi Anne and Conchalea!

This topic reminds me of a story from my youth. I was driving my Ducati down an alley and it was blocked by a parked car, but I judged that I could still get by. There was enough room for a Ducati to go through. As I approached the gap, I looked at the car...then the building...then the car...then the building, and BOOM! I hit the building. I wasn't hurt, but I put a scratch in my shiny red bike and I was upset.

I told my story to some guys at the bike shop, and one older gentleman asked me, "Why were you looking at the building? If you had enough clearance, then you should put your eyes where you want the bike to go. It will go where you are looking!"

In those days I knew everything. After all, I was 25! "Look where you want to go" was just too simple. It can't possibly be that easy.

A road captain in our local HOG chapter told me this when I bought my heritage: "If you're making a curve to the left, press on the left footboard." So, press on the inside footboard of any curve or turn you're making. The "look where you want to go," is a great piece of advice. The coaches in Riders Edge tell you to do the head turn for any curve or turn. Keep on riding & practicing.

Hi Katey!

I have been riding for about 45 years and the one piece of advice that did it for me was "when you are in a turn, look where you want the bike to go and it will go there!" This really works. Forget about long-winded counter-steering explanations and steering geometry,

You don't want to fixate on a spot directly in front of you. You want to look into the curve...where you will be in about 5 seconds. Somehow your mind and body make a connection and you instinctively go there. It works when piloting an airplane too!

Hey Katie,

I know what you mean with the turns...I had trouble
with them too, and I just found an empty lot and kept
working at it til they got easier to do.
I would pull up to a stop sign/light, and try to man
handle it thru....finally David told me to gently
accelerate as I take off in to the corner...and it
worked...just practice and it will get easier...

Don't let lack of experience get you down--everyone was a beginner at some point. In fact, those who've been riding for several years tend to slack off on the good skills & habits, which those with recent time in a rider safety course know are necessary. I know of long-time riders who've had more wrecks than I, and most of them are due to bad habits, like not riding defensively through intersections, etc. Keep practicing & riding--have fun & stay safe!

Hey All, just stopping in to see what is up, where did this week go, hubby sick me tired and more tired, then yesterday off and visiting, no harley ride cold and wet here. But thinking of my fellow harliens.....

I have been thinking of going to the course parking lot and practice my curves and stops as well. Still dread to make a 45 degree turn, I fell like I am in slow motion.....DH says just go (easy for someone who had been riding 20 some years) to me who is riding 6 months....LOL

Have a great day!

I totally agree it is best to be prepared. By
practicing the moves it becomes an automatic response

I got to ride again this afternoon. Our main meal for the holiday is Friday, so I took a 26 mile spin today. The high was 62, and it was a little cool on the ride, but there was almost no traffic. The HEB nearby was closed, so the parking lot was empty. I spent some time there practicing my fast stops and swerves. My stops are better than my swerves. We all need to practice these skills so they're automatic when the need arises.

I want to wish all the Harley guys & gals a happy Thanksgiving. I got to ride today, just a short hop to the county seat to renew my car's registration. I've had it a year Saturday, and have put less than 8K miles on it. On the 2 bikes I've owned this year, I've put more than 11K miles. I need to up the deductible on the car. Our highs today were in the low 70's, and I couldn't resist the ride.

Hey all - wanted to wish everyone a safe and Happy Turkey Day! We are taking tomorrow off to over-indulge with no guilt, and then working on the house for a couple more days. If the weather breaks, the wife and I have both agreed it's time to take off on the bike for a day, so hopefully that becomes part of the four day weekend too! Not even going to try and track tomorrow - sorry Katie!

No riding today or yesterday. Slept later than usual, and had trouble getting up. I was late enough both days that I didn't have time to gear up, back the bike out, ride to school, and de-gear for class. The T-giving weather is supposed to be good, so I may get in some riding time in the next few days.

I would hate to put my bike away for a season--which is the great thing about living here in central TX. We have cold mornings, but it usually warms up enough to be nice riding in the afternoon. I need to do more around the house, but when riding weather beckons, I answer that instead of the house call.

Saturday--no ride due to cold, fog, & drizzle. But today, Sunday, I rode about 80 miles. 75 with the HOG chapter on county roads. due to the roads it was a Level 2 ride. It got up to 70 this afternoon, but started out at 50. I had on chaps, jeans, and longjohns; plus on top a t-shirt, sweatshirt, hoodie, and leather jacket. It was brisk but nice. We rode to eat, and spent about 3.5 hours total. I've now put 3300 miles on my bike since July 4.

Last ride of the year today. It was cold but worth it. Battery tender is now plugged in and my bike is covered. All thats left is the stabil in the tank the day after Thanksgiving and I'll be bikeless til spring. We always do that on the same day every year :-(

Tim,

Of course he knew where you were talking about.
He romped around the US for quite awhile after he
got back from Vietnam........Ifyou have ever heard
the old song "I've Been Everywhere" that would fit
DH.

Maybe the weather will clear up for a couple days or
hours........so you can clean your bike up..I need
to be outside cleaning my bike instead of online..LOL

Have a great weekend....

We are at the tip of Puget Sound Darlene, which puts us about an hour from the coast, and an hour from the mountains - the best of both worlds!

Our forecast for tonight - wind and rain. Tomorrow - wind and rain, Sunday - wind and rain...

I can't even get the weather to break long enough to let me wash the bike from our last "excursion".

Good Morning All,

Darlene I am so happy for you! Don’t over do it but I am glad you got out. You made me smile as well…..

It is light rain here for two days, it is supposed to clear up for the weekend, perfect timing. We will get out I am sure. Not sure where and we don’t really need a plan – just go. I am trying to figure if Thanksgiving is nice - how I can tie my cake dish to my bike and drive to my in-laws LOL. DH will think I am completely nuts.

BigTim3 – Helping to make you feel envy, you’re welcome. I will do my part as I am sure others will also…. emoticon ….You will be riding – you won’t be able to stay away reading the posts.

LNWOLF72 – I can see it now your ears flapping in the wind………We ride all winter as long as it is sunny and dry. I just got chaps and they help a lot, then it got warm again. Go figure.

Porkchop_4 – I am moving to FL you have nicer weather. We talk all the time about moving south (in PA now) Last daughter is graduating this year!!!! Maybe???

Nope I think our riding days are over til spring. Its done nothing but rain with temps in the 40's this week...ugh I cant stand it. You ever get the urge to roll your car window down and put your head out just for a second? Claustophobia!

WOOHOOOOOOOO ---- TIM.........

It was wunnerful-wunnerful........I had a blast. It was so pretty here today in ALABAMA...the high was in
the 60's......Sorry buddy...you are welcome to come
ride anytime you would like too....
By the way, if you decide to come this way, don't
detour through ILLINOIS as it has been open season
on bikers this year..................
My shoulder didn't give me one iota of trouble even
though I had therapy this morning.

Are you on the coast of Washington? DH asked. Yeah,
he's been there..I swear that man has been everywhere.

Hey Darlene - Havta' tell ya', the fact you proclaimed that you finally got to ride, made me smile! It seems like you've been wanting to get out for quite a while now. Congrats! It's steady downpours of rain here in Washington State - so all I can do is read about all the other folks that are enduring 60-80 degree weather (and be extremely envious!).

Hope the charge works, as you know nothing like it. We will probably get out this weekend...which reminds me I better watch the weather before I say that!

We are trying a charger on my bike and if it holds
the charge, then I am going to go for a widdle wide..

This ought to be a hoot. I have not ridden since
Spring.

Hi Katie!

I rode my Ultra to the gym this morning! It was about 59 degrees so I wore my flight jacket. I also went to the post office and the supermarket and by the time I got home it was about 79, and I was HOT! That's the way it is here in Florida.
