A gym you can walk to sounds great! You will get part of your cardio workout just getting there.

I think I've decided to go with the leisure center... I had signed up for a couple classes last year and dropped them so I have $ on my account, going to see if I can use that towards my monthly pass. Otherwise it's being used for my daughter's swimming lessons.

Sounds like you could easily try the local leisure center for a month or so, and change your mind without the 30-day advance notice. How often would you think you'd use either facility in a month's time? That should help you do a cost analysis.

I like the variety of options (sports) the leisure center offers, but would you need a "buddy" to participate in some of them.

There's many of us on this team that would be envious about having either one of them so close.

I don't believe they do.. but the child care isn't a huge factor for me as I would either get my mom & dad to babysit for an hour or so, or I would go when my boyfriend is home from work.

What are the cons about joining the Leisure Centre
- does it have child care?

So today I decided that I've had it with trying to do my cardio workout at home with no equipment. I've been doing 10-15 minute Spark videos to make up my 30 minutes but it is annoying as heck! I need fitness equipment!

So I went to the 2 local fitness centers that are within 5 minutes from my house... the YMCA and the local leisure centre. I'm trying to weigh out the pros & cons of each and decide where I want to join.

YMCA
-1.4 km drive
-cost per month $43.05 (+ $42 one time fee for new members + $3.25/day for child care if needed) or pay for 1 year $483
-expensive drop-in fee $11/day
-includes access to cardio equipment w/ cable tv, strength equipment, free weights, pool, basketball court, lockers, private showers, etc etc
-fitness classes @ no charge to members
-need 30 days notice to cancel pre-auth monthly membership

Leisure Centre
-0.5 km drive (easy to walk)
-I still receive young-adult rate until May
-cost can be drop-in $4.10, admission tickets (10 for $36.90 or 20 for $69.60), or monthly $34, 3-month $92, 6-month $173, 9-month $245, or 1-year $306
-access to all 3 leisure centres in the city
-access to tennis/badminton courts, fitness classes, jogging track, pool, stength training area, cardio equipment, skating arena
