JATNNA_: Welcome! I've only been here about a week, but I've found that doing a daily check-in with SP and the message boards is helping keep me on track, and I've set up a weekly SP appointment to record my weight to hold myself accountable. Good luck with your goals :)

Excellent post. I was thinking right those same lines... it's a huge forum. Lots of features, waaaaaay more members than I've ever seen in any other sort of forum, and so many things to do, that I'm still lost. But I thought that unless I start now, I'd shy away and never post/forget about SP. It looks like a great place to meet positive and interesting people, so it's definitely worth a blind leap.

I'll be trying to find out all other features (sparkpoints definitely look like something that should keep me entertained) but in the mean time, I'll try to grab a few people with me so we all learn together and have fun. That's what it's all about!

My advice is to try to change a little at a time. Maybe start by using the nutrition and fitness trackers just to track what you are currently doing. This will help give you perspective on where you are at. Maybe make a goal to up your water intake by 1 glass or so. Start small. Remember this is a journey and you don't need to rush. If you take it slow, the habits will stick.

I just joined a few minutes ago and am very impressed by the amount of info! WOW! I have to admit that I feel a little overwhelmed as it is a lot to take in but am very excited to check things out. Everyone is so upbeat and excited to be a part of this so I can't wait to learn more. Do you have any suggestions on how to "get my feet wet"? I have decided that I love food so much that maybe I need to learn to love to exercise too. Checks & Balances!

Every week a new "class" is set up. It gives people a place to start and to meet people who are starting the same week they are. We can all learn together (which I suppose is why they call it a class). CJ and I are in different classes for the time period we started and I can tell you that I have met some great people and learned a lot from them along the way. The postings should pick up. You are right though, we are growing quickly and this is just the first day of the week! (The SP class I started in has more than 55,000 members!!!)

WOW!!! I joined late last night when there were only 16 members...by the time I got off the team page there were 26...and, gee by golly, now there are 1044 members. Too bad that more haven't done any posting yet.

Why is it called a Class?

Look forward and hold your head high; don't take the time to look behind.

Who cares where we've been as long as we know where we're going!

My goals:

*To have a happy, healthy 2009
*To stick with Sparkpeople
*To lose 45 lbs in 2009 (to get off the rest of the weight)
*To be 180 or less at the end of my 8-wk battle challenge - GO BLUE TEAM!

I remember how intimidated I was when I first joined here. There is so much information and so many features that gettign to know where to find everything may take a little time. A great place to start is looking at the my Sparkpoints tab. This gives you a great place to start plus you get SparkPoints for doing the items there. I still use this tab every day (I am addicted to SparkPoints!!!). Earning SparkPoints gives you the opportunity to earn points to give Spark Goodies to motivate others (or even give yourself a goodie!) The my Sparkpoints tab will also lead you to great articles, blogs and your trackers.

One of the most important parts of the site (besides the boards) are the trackers. I suggest you start writing down everything you eat now, even if you haven't started your healthy eating plan yet. This will give you a picture of where you have been and where you need to go.

Remember take baby steps. This is a journey, not a race. You will get way more out of it if you take your time and work through this. And remember, motivation is just a post away!
