It is hard to believe it's been over two months, and I'm ADDICTED to SP! For the first time in a while I'm seeing consistent progress toward my goal, and I do feel like this can become a lifestyle change, not just something I do to lose the weight and then return to my former (bad) habits. I've lost 10 lbs - slow, but consistent progress!

Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.

Hard to believe it is over two months now since we started on this journey - I feel I have learned so much along the way. I am over half way to my original goal, and feeling so much better not only because of the weight loss, but because I am getting so much more exercise (never my strong point.) I think one of the good things about exercise is it makes you so much more aware of your body -- something that those of us who ate on "automatic pilot" often were able to ignore until we woke up and realized we had gained awhole lot of weight. I am hoping that by staying on the conscious eating and exercise routine I have been on that I won't slip back into that auto mode.

Its not that some people have willpower and some don't. It's that some people are ready to change and others are not.

Since school started and I'm back to work (I teach) I have been very negligent about entering my nutrition info and tracking my cardio on the site. I have been following things on my own but I find that actually entering everything is much better. I'm definitely going to try to get on everyday from now on. Things are so hectic at the beginning of the school year. I just need to get into my routine again.

Happy Labor Day everyone! This weekend has been a tough one to stay on track. I wanted to eat everything in sight but, fortunately, I stayed on my healthy eating plan -- even within the calorie range!! I trepidatiously stepped on the scales this morning to find that I've lost 2 lbs since last weekend. WAHOO! To top it off, I've lost over 10 lbs now. YEAH!!!

I didn't lose any the week before and I think it's b/c I wasnt getting enough calories. My mind thinks... if I eat less, I will lose more. It doesn't quite work that way.

Everyone has brought up some great points and some wonderful highlights about your journeys. Keep up the FANTASTIC work!! Sometimes it may seem like nothing is happening but you just gotta keep going because your body is still going through changes.

Make sure you take the time to think about the big picture. This journey is not just about weight loss but also about making the positive lifestyle changes that help aid in losing the weight. If you're not doing so, try blogging or journaling because those are great ways to gauge your success. You get to see how far you've come. I looked back on some of my beginning blogs and cried because I saw how far I've come!

Great job, everyone! I wish you continued success on your journeys.

I agree this site is wonderful - and it is encouraging us to take care of ourselves and be accountable for our own health. I love the weight coming off because it is an important part of my health plan, but I also love that I have fallen in love with exercise and realize how much better I feel because of it. And the last two days I have loved how loose my clothes are feeling on me. It is the end of summer and I won't be wearing some of these clothes ever again, because when I pack them up this year, I don't plan on ever wearing them again!

Its not that some people have willpower and some don't. It's that some people are ready to change and others are not.

Eibhlin,

To get the "I've lost Xlbs with Sparkpeople", go to edit your spark page, go to your profile image & click change this image. It brings up a box to choose your photo. There is a line that says "also choose from our success gallery." Click on that, & it brings all the Xlbs pics. Then save it as your profile image. You can go back in & change your profile image back, but the Xlbs pic will stay in your gallery. That's how I did it. Whether or not that's the correct & easiest way, I don't know, but it worked for me.

I can't praise this site enough. It's the only thing that I've found in the last 13 years to actually work. Even though I do spend a lot of time on the computer, it's worth it. It's time for me to take care of myself instead of constantly caring for the rest of my family. Everyone here is so supportive & there is tons of great advice. I'm also with the idea that this isn't a diet, it's a lifestyle. I am eating what I want to eat and don't feel deprived. The exercising is a bit difficult at times, but makes me feel energized & healthy. Who could ask for a better plan than what Spark offers?

SP is great! When I think I'm losing weight too slowly, I think about where I'd be if it weren't for this site, the accountability, information, fun, support, encouragement and sharing. Then, I remember exactly where I'd be, which is 6 pounds heavier and not really committed to doing anything about it. Thanks SP! emoticon

I really like this site. It keeps me honest with myself on what I eat and what exercise that I get. I haven't lost much yet as I have hypothyroidism, but I have lost inches. I do water aerobics for an hour three times a week as my main source of exercise. I also do some exercises with tapes that I have.

Ditto ShayShay! Now I don't feel so bad about those Poptarts last night! LOL!!

I used to beat myself up, and started to last night, but then I realized that I can do better with my next meal...and I DID! And knowing that I can log on and get support when I feel I haven't done my greatest helps me to push on!

And Lynnel38 - you are so right - the time spent on the computer, while frustrating to some of us and our loved ones, is a good use of our time! It is time spent on OURSELVES! For me, that's what this is about - taking time for me to be healthy! I am worth the time and effort I put into planning a healthy life for me, whatever that entails!!!

Oh, BTW, I've lost almost 13 lbs and have gotten under the 300 lb. mark since joining Spark. I love it here!!!

Lynnel38, This is why I love this website and this team. That was very motivating. You said it best with - "Stop beating yourself up for slips - this is not a DIET". I used to do that all the time. I now have realize this isn't a diet. This is my lifestyle now. I want and need to be healthy. If I have one snack or meal that isn't the best who says everything I have done is ruined. I just know that I have to exercise harder and burn those calories. This web site allows me to see what I need to do to work off what I just ate. Thank you for the motivation and the encouraging words.

The scales this morning showed me that I have lost 18 lbs since I started with SparkPeople. I am pleased, of course, but I am also carefully analyzing what is working and not-working along the way - because for me this is not a DIET. I am in this to become more healthy - and losing weight and exercise are a vital part of that. What is helping me towards my goal: the food and exercise trackers. I plan my meals the night before so I have no last minute, perhaps emotional, decisions about what to eat. I hate to make changes once I have the information entered, but if I do have to, I know exactly how many calories I have to play with. I also love the fitness tracker because I enjoy seeing how I am racking up the calories burned - it motivates me because I never really saw that before. What else works for me - eating 6 small meals a day. If I get hungry, I know that I have a meal/snack coming up before long -it helps. I also enjoy the articles and the tips I pick up from others on the boards. I've met some great people, but some pretty frustrating ones also. Sometimes I just want to say to them "If you want to do this - well make a committment to it, and keep working on it. Stop beating yourself up for slips - this is not a DIET. A slip is just a bump in the road, but you have the road map so keep on the journey, and you'll make your destination." I love this program - I am very pleased I found it.

This site and the people on it are so inspirational and truly help motivate me. I think I become more addicted to it each day! :) I started a bootcamp and the instructor is who turned me onto this site. Between doing the bootcamp (started July 7th) and SparkPeople (started July 13th), I've lost a little over 8 lbs.

I absolutely love this site. This has helped me stay motivated when I am down. It makes me aware of what I am doing and putting into my mouth. I am not a person that does a lot of posting. I usually just read them so this is helping me come out of my shell a little more and post msg's. This team I think is the best. Very encouraging and motivating. Way to go team and Spark People!!!!

This website is doing for me exactly what I'd hoped! Before joining, I'd lost 19 pounds, at a rate of 1 pound a week. Since becoming a part of the SP community, I've received tools, resources, support, and encouragement that keep me motivated to stay on the healthy weight loss/fitness track. I've doubled my weight loss per week to 2 pounds! emoticon emoticon

This is a great topic, EKENMA! Thanks for posting!

I absolutely LOVE SP!! I am so thankful for this site. I have "met" some wonderful people that love to encourage and motivate others towards their goals. I know that I would have given up long ago if it were not for being a part of the SP community. I wish that I had more time to spend online each day, but I take what I can get...lol!

I enjoy helping others to meet their goals, and I love to see their growth and progress. I have totally fallen in love with exercising (including RUNNING!!). I'm eating healthier drinking water everyday. My body feels better and my skin is clearer. Man, the list could go on and on!!

I'm delighted to have lost 8lbs in the last month, and as I'm exercising - especially skipping - I feel much fitter and have lots of energy.
I have a question - can anyone tell me how you get those pics which say "I've lost X lbs with Sparkpeople" - do you have to be in a particular group or are they awarded for something particular? I can't seem to find any info on them - I'd love to have one for ME!!
Cheers, Eibhlin

Hi all.

This site helps keep me focused, and I love plugging in my weight and seeing the ticker move. It's the small things that make a difference.

I'm finding it easier to plug in my food in the tracker. It's not as much as a chore as it used to be. I don't do it every day, but I try to do it every two or three days.

I am doing really well. I am reading just about every artical I can and learning lots of stuff. I have a strict morning routine, so that is helping me keep off the computer, except on Fridays, when I don't have to be as strict with my schedule (they are days off, so I can afford to be on the computer a little longer!) I love all the support that I can get. I belong to several sparkteams and really enjoy it. I've only lost 3 lbs, but have way more energy, stamina, and endurance.

Don't stress and God bless!

Doing great, joined a gym and both my wife and I started at the same time. Also made a connection with another man in my age group who lives in England so along with our sharing about our ups and downs of lifestyle change we share about the differences in our countries, I highly recommend everyone get a sparkpeople partner to share with.
Anyway I'v lost 13lbs. but more important I've lost inches off every area I measure. I wish you all success and if your at a ruff spot, just hang in there.
God bless
Larry

I also love this site - the nutrition and exercise tracking and the articles are great. AND the support from all the teams are a big help. I agree that for about the first 3 weeks you do spend a lot of time on the computer - just learning to navigate the site, but after that it really doesn't take that much time. I go on when I get up and over my first cup of coffee read articles, go over my day's menu, read postings. Then at night I record exercise, plan the next day's menu and enter that, and exchange postings with team members. Right now having lost 13 lbs, I feel the time is well worth it.

Its not that some people have willpower and some don't. It's that some people are ready to change and others are not.

emoticon Yes I do spend a lot more time on the computer, however, I love this site. It has kept me on 'goal' for 3 weeks now. I haven't lost that much, I know I will soon. emoticon

I was just wondering how many people feel this website is helping them gain and commit to their goals moer than ever. I feel pretty good because the website is great at documenting success and failure and I like that everyone can do it at their own pace.
Please let me know how you all are incorporating this into ypur daily life.

A drwaback is spending to much time on the computer and not on the goals and planning.
