You know, that's really a great idea! I don't think a lot of people have "spare" cash this season due to the economy like you said but, it's not all about buying stuff for people, obviously. It's about taking the time out (like you did) to recognize someone for a good deed. Or lend a helping hand to a family member, a friend, or even a stranger.

A smile is worth more than any present you could ever buy. Taking the time just to spread happiness to someone who you think needs it is worth so much more-- than something that was bought.

I love your idea, thanks for sharing. Now, I can too, look out for people who I think need/deserve a helping hand, a compliment or maybe just a smile. I like to smile at people-- even if I don't know them. Especially people who look really ticked off or like they haven't been having the greatest day. Cause, I know that when I'm having a bad day and some random person smiles at me I can't help but to smile back-- then again, that's just me. lol!

For most people smiles are contagious... But, that's not so for everyone.

This may actually be good for a year-round topic, but feels especially timely with the state of the Economy and the holidays converging. Any ideas to easily help out a stranger? Or how about Easy, Free gift ideas?

Here's my story and how this idea came my way. I was driving in heavy traffic and noticed a big van changing lanes. The driver was being very safe and leaving plenty of room, not cutting people off, but yet doing his/her part to get the traffic moving. I was impressed. Then I noticed the "1-800- I drive safe" sticker. So I dialed the number and reported a COMPLIMENT, rather than a complaint. The dispatcher asked me a lot of questions, but was all too happy to take my call.

Then I started thinking, if the van had been driving slowly (and still carefully and safely), I probably wouldn't have noticed it! So, I made a vow to look for the 1-800 Safe Driver signs and (at least for this season) take the time to call in when I see Safe driving. It would encourage more safe driving and give the driver an anonymous boost.

I'd be happy for any of you to join me in this campaign. And I'll join you in any other ideas you might share. I don't have a lot of spare cash to share this year, but I have time and a smile on my side!
