Good Morning:

It's another gloomy day here in south central Wisconsin and the weather is turning cooler. In case you don't know about it we have June, July, August and, if we're lucky, half of September. The rest of the year is winter: nasty, gloomy and cold. I don't mind the cold at all... even when the wind-chill goes down to -24. However, I cannot stand the greyness and gloom. Many people here suffer from SADD (seasonal depression), me included. It's a hard nut to crack. I don't feel like doing much of anything and can just hubrinate all winter. I've got to keep doing stuff this year or I won't be successful with Spark: I'll revert to being a couch potato and I'll eat, eat, eat.

A good spark friend is in crisis right now and I am really worried about her. The worst thing that anyone in crisis can do is to isolate himself/herself. I've been emailing her, suggesting she get help. I hope she acts on that suggestion very soon.

I'll go to exercise today and then will stop at SAVERS (Easter Seals charity shop) with some more "fat clothes". Of course, as long as I'm there I'll see if I can find a 99 cent bargain or two.

Have a good day, all.

Gail

Yep...looks like a scale is definitely in order! I have a feeling I am underestimating as well.

I just got a scale as well and was really surprised as well to see I was underestimating the weight of the meat in my meals.

I bought a digital food scale that you can zero out for the dish. I love it. I was WAY OVER estimating my grated cheese and WAY UNDER estimating my meet weights.

It's great... I just keep in on the counter and use it often.

Also, I never thought I would use measuring cups, but I do. This has helped keep the calorie count true to what I am eating.

I had the same problem with egg beaters! I have a brand I got from Costco and the the calorie difference was off quite a bit for the same amount. I don't know how egg beaters can have more calories than the brand I bought but it did (according what I found when I just did "food search"). So yeah...it's great to have as extensive a list of favorites as possible so you can get as accurate as possible.
I am also thinking of getting a food scale. There are so many items (especially meat & cheese) where I don't know if I'm eating 4, 5, 6 oz...it's a guess and I try to overestimate which isn't good either so I think a scale in that regard would be good as well!
Take care all!

I had noticed this problem early on. I have a very extensive list of favorites.
My shopping rarely deviates much so really this is a good thing.

I have started entering a LOT of my foods (my favorites list is getting rather long)...

Or like last night -- I had a pita bread -- and I was entering food in late last night... the spark calorie count was about 2/3s of what my package said... so I just adjusted the serving size up until I got it on target for calories..

I know this isn't the best way... but when I don't have time to enter the entire food label... at least it gets me the right calorie count.

Yesterday I made brown rice and used the spark listing. I entered my recipe for Uncle Ben's Brown Rice this morning and when I recalculated the calories I was at 1833!. That will teach me to not trust what is already there but to enter the nutritional info as I see it on the packaging I am using, and according to my recipe.

Take care all of you in the path of the hurricane.
