Very interesting... Have you ever been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD? I'm guessing you meant that you're 58, not 580 (LOL) and little was known about Attention Deficit when you were in school. Most people recognize the symptoms of having difficulty focusing and staying on task, but few realize that hyper-focusing is also a common symptom. ADD/ADHD sufferers have trouble staying on task, but when they really get into something, they hyper-focus, to the point of obsessing. Then, when that wears out, they quickly lose interest all together. You might want to mention it to your doctor. If you are diagnosed, just being aware of the problem might help, even if you don't want medication.

My week went well. I stayed good on both eating and exercise. I feel good about staying on track and even though the scales have not given up the pounds, I believe they will soon. Someone (HikerGirl maybe) mentioned that weight problems are similar to addictions. I totally agree. I think that for me the tendency to overdo and to get obsessed with things is part of a need to fill an empty space in my life. I have over the past 580 years of my life run through addictions to such things as "sewing, crocheting, embroidery, reading, exercising, eating, etc." I am not talking about a normal interest in these things, but a true addiction where I crocheted 18-20 hours a day on an afghan and made it so big that it covered a kind-size bed from side-to-side, and floor to pillows - it was my first afghan. I have taken on projects that I spent every waking moment on and then when I got tired, didn't do them again for 20-30 years. Drugs and alcohol were easy to avoid - they are CALLED ADDICTIONS and are BAD for you. These other things are not bad and they seem so innocent.

We all deserve an extra day off especially right before the weekend. I did pretty well this week and have gotten back on track. I have been making good choice in food and have been exercising myself til I am ready to drop from exhaustion. I had a great 10-day vacation and came home inspired to kick some butt this week. Maybe it will pay off.

Hi Everyone: This week has been really good week for me. I have been making healthy & positive choices in general. I have lost 11 lbs since July 1 with Spark...& my spark buddies. I have had some challenges with exercise, sometimes I'm too tired by the time I get home to go for walks but I know I can change this & make the time in my schedule. It is just a matter of changing my thinking & being proactive towards my day..with time management...I know I can do this...

I'm looking forward to a long weekend this weekend for (Canada). I also took an extra lieu day today just because I think I deserve it, woohoo 4 days off from the work grind...

I hope everyone is doing really well. Friday is finally here yahoooo. Enjoy the weekend ladies...stay focused...keep positive...we can reach our goals one step & one breath @ a time...

Thank you all for the encouragement & support. It was greatly appreciated & needed. I keep on telling myself that I'm not expecting a perfect ride in this journey just a healthy one. I have to find other ways with dealing with life's curb balls as they come. One of the main reasons I joined Spark was that I knew I could not do this alone. I've tried that in the past with very bad results. Sometimes venting helps...Thanks once again for listening...K

Interesting that you should mention AA. I am a member of Alanon - a 12 step group for the friends and family members of alcoholics. I have learned a great deal from Alanon and the 12 step program. It has been work (what isn't).. work on the emotional, mental and spiritual parts. And now with spark I am working on the physical part of my life.

I know several recovering alcoholics, and it's amazing to me sometimes, the similarities between alcoholism and weight issues. I think that most of us who are struggling with our weight and blaming ourselves are actually dealing with food addiction.
Great that you took control of the situation the way you did, and as those AA people say, "One day at a time..."

Blueflower --- it's a new day. Check out the spark online videos. There are a bunch of short (10 minute) work out videos that might jump start your weekend.

Go for you that you went to the farmers market. I did the same yesterday. Couldn't walk much myself because I had 6 warts on the bottom of my foot frozen.

So, today If I still can't walk without pain, I'll so some of the strength training stuff.

Don't let one or two bad days get you down. You logged on!!! You posted!!! Today is a new day!

I found the no-equipment ones also... but for some reason had this mental block that I had to do all of them in one session. I can do what you do! Wall push ups here.... squats here... thanks!

I'm having trouble with that too. But I found a whole bunch of exercises that don't require any equipment, so I can do them whenever I want. That helps. A few wall push ups in between getting ready for work, wall squats after work, crunches while I'm watching TV. Driving to the gym requires time and the ability to plan ahead. My work schedule doesn't always allow for that. Any other ideas are welcome.

Cool! The more muscle you have, the easier it is to burn fat. When you work a muscle, it releases a chemical (can't remember the name, sorry) that burns fat cells. That might be why guys seem to have an easier time losing weight than we do, as guys on average have more muscle, and we have a higher percentage of body fat. Good Luck!

Hiker.. thanks for the supportive words. I did get back to the gym last night, and have re-gained my focus back to tracking foods, etc.. we'll see what the numbers bring next week, I think right now as much as weight loss is what I need, at least I am gaining stamina, and strength doing more activity than I have in the past two years, so hopefully the reward will be weight loss!

That's great though! 3 lbs!!! I think that in the begining a lot of your weight loss is water, so it comes and goes very easily. Eat a lot of salt, or drink a pop or a beer, and the scale goes down 2 lbs in one day! Eat healthy and work out and drink lots of water the next day, and the scale goes back UP again. Very frustrating, I know. But It should level out for both of us soon. Congratulate yourself on the progress you've made so far. The scale will catch up with the changes you've made. :-)

Hey girl, the ending number is lower than the starting number - THAT is the goal and it shows progress. Ideally, we shouldn't expect to lose more than 1-2 pounds per week because that is the amount that will likely STAY off. When you lose a whole chunk at one time, there is a good chance you will regain it - example - your weekend. Seriously it sounds like overall you had a successful week don't you think?? Two pounds down is absolutely fabulous - and it beats the tar outta my 5 pound GAIN in my first 2 weeks without even doing anything I wasn't supposed to do.

Just want to say thank to everyone. I wasn't feeling great, but really just felt lazy today. I came on earlier and read your posts and it motivated me to work out. THank you - 20 min walk, 1000 crunches & 40 pushups.

I see people making good choices, staying on track, exercising regularly, and even trying something new and exciting. WOW!!!!! This really sounds like a super week. Let's go get 'em and have an even better week next week. We rock this place and this place rocks!!!!

This week was pretty good, official weigh in is not until tommorow. I have logged my meals every day, stayed at or just below calorie goals and excercised 5 out of 7 days.

I even branched out a bit this weekend and strayed off of the meal plan and made a few recipies that were fantastic and easy!!

Had a good week. I walked 6 of 7 days and did 2 of 3 strength training sessions. Logged my food every day (even that piece of cheesecake, the glass of wine and the oreo cookies). I also have gotten a rhythm going with drinking the water so it isn't so overwhelming.

Hi Everyone: Congrats on your successful week. I had a good week...I stayed focused & was diligent with my new eating habits...& was pretty good with walking..I missed 2 days but no biggy, I got on track again this weekend. My weigh in doesn't happen till Tues (I started on July 1st)...I'm 13 days in & I'm doing well. A couple of hiccups but nothing disastrous. I keep on telling myself I'm not looking for perfection just to keep on going no matter what the best I can... K

My week went well. I did an awesome job of staying focused and healthy on my eating and my exercise. I drank all my water and thank God it is not the first of the month so I don't have to COUNT/RECORD the 5 pounds I gained. LOL Read my page where I tell you my philosophy on weighing in. I know the hard work will pay off in the long run and so I will just have to weight and see whether the wait comes off.

Congrats on the 2.2 loss! I did good up till Friday when I didn't get my exercises done, ate a bit more then I should have & Saturday was the same. Today I am getting back on track. I haven't lost anything since last Sunday & it was really getting to me, I felt like giving up AGAIN. So this week I hope to do better & be in more control. Have a good day & God Bless

I lost 2.2 lbs, I wanted to lose three but gave in to a few cravings, only went over my calories once, and that was yesterday, but not by much, every otrher day i have been near the low end or daily req. I have a samba cardio class Monday and Salsa for the soul next sat. I am not sure how I will do but I need to try. Belly dancing class is the week after.Hope everyone had a good week.
