Kali: I'll have to check out the link. I'm glad you found your keys. Is the Cafele tracker one of the deals, like a key fob, that will alarm when you look for the lost keys?

I have a friend that tried drinking beef bone broth (say it 5 times fast). She liked the taste, but she's a fad dieter and much like a magpie quickly moves on to the next shiny new object (diet.) So I have no idea if it would be beneficial long term. But I think the concept is interesting.

Brenna ended up wanting to watch an old horror movie, Child's Play. The very reason I hate creepy baby dolls. I'd have preferred to see almost anything else. But I loved scary movies at her age, so I get it. I just check the reason for the ratings. We did our masks and had brunch while we waited on the UPS guy and watched a 1988 horror movie. Brenna's new auto-injectors were to be delivered yesterday. They got put on the wrong truck. The Humbolt UPS guy drove them to the house, in Medina, at about 5 yesterday afternoon. He didn't have to but he did. I was grateful. He could have taken them back to the terminal. They are tempeture sensitive and another day it a truck would have ruined them. I have to order the second set in a month since our insurance only covers 1 set at a time. But the doctor gave me 11 refills.

While watching that movie I had a real-life scare. A SNAKE climbed up on my living room window (not on the deck rail but on the dang window itself!) and peeped in at us. He was a good 4 ft long. It was just a speckled Kingsnake but that didn't make me jump any less. Last year I had a rough green snake fall out of a tree while I was mowing. Now my neighbor is calling me the snake whisperer.

Eva - love that you are nurturing Bug's dream. It's amazing what young people can accomplish now and you have one 'smart cookie' in that girl of yours.
Bummer about MIL being irritated with you - I found my father (control freak) was not happy unless he was miserable, so I just let him be. Ended up better for both of us...
I did find my keys emoticon
Not where I thought they'd be, but it was cool when I got home so I grabbed my fleece and they were in the pocket. I changed out the chipolo chip with a Cafele tracker. It won't do me any good outside the house, but it's great up to 130'.
My bone broth will be a base for other food. I think the broth people drink is a little 'purer' than what I'll make, but I may look into that too. I'm getting back to more instapot cooking and downloaded this for June. recipesfromapantry.com/instant-pot-m

Kali: Did you find your keys? I've never made bone broth. But it sounds easy enough. Do you use it as a soup base or do you drink it like some of the women here have been doing?

Bug certainly is growing. She's 4'11". I'm 5'6". She may end up taller than me.

MIL has calmed down. She has control issues. Her own mother called her out on it a few years before she passed. They seem to have gotten worse since FIL passed. She's mad at me at the moment. She was complaining about "having to give so-so money." I told her she didn't have to do anything. It's a choice she made. I assume that was the wrong thing to say... oh well.

Yesterday Bug made Sparkpeople's homemade caramel popcorn. It's a process, but she loves it and gourmet popcorn is usually a no go for us at any store. She's talking about opening up that nut free sweet shop again. I think it's a wonderful idea. And so I'm trying to nurture the dream.

Richard - glad to hear you're getting some pain relief.

Eva - love the pics! I can't believe how Breanna has grown. It looks like a fun day. Sounds like MIL may be afraid of 'losing control' over her circumstances. Aging gracefully is not an easy task...

Started the morning with lost keys. I've been 'meditating' on the treadmill while closing my eyes (and improving my balance) and sure enough, I remembered the last time I used the car and where they might be. I borrowed DH's to take Liz to Camp Bow Wow and Yoga Flow, but will look for them when I get home.
We (over)cooked short ribs for Memorial Day, so I have some bone broth in process. I plan to strain what I have and take it through one more cycle before freezing it. Wasn't picky about the contents - beef, port and chicken bones are in the mix!

Feline: I hope to hear there's a healthy baby boy meeting the fur babies!

Kali: I hope pup is okay. Poor girl.

Richard: glad to hear your feeling better.

MIL isn't always a burden, but she has high expectations that no one will be able to meet. And she doesn't like change. She's actually managed to tear up 2 mowers completely in a year. She ran over a tree with one of them. We loaned her one of ours after she killed Jim's sister's mower with the tree ordeal. We ended up giving that "spare" of ours to the sister since her's can't be fixed either. At the moment MIL is mad because our nephew bought what he wanted instead of what she wanted him to buy. I have a feeling no matter what she won't be happy. But I figure it's his money, she'll have to love with it.

We took Brenna to Paris Landing yesterday to see the Nina and the Pinta replicas! The set sail again on May 29th.

Eva - sorry to hear MIL can be such a burden to her family, but glad to hear there's a solution to the lawn. Sounds like her grandson stepped up in more ways than one... I hope she appreciates it.
I can relate to the mountain of laundry (sort of - there's only 2 of us) as I had 2 weeks worth of clean clothes to put away. (When one gets to the top of the basket, there's a need to put things away.)
emoticon
Feline - so glad you are getting a date night and a 'snuggle' day before the baby comes. I'm so excited for you both!

Little emoticon last night as the emoticon 'slept' with me due to emoticon
Next time she's going into the bathroom... Not sure how our dog sitter will deal with her over the 4th as the fireworks will be going off for a week.

Everyone enjoy the long weekend!

Eva: DH needs to write a book or something on his secret, I've lost about 20lbs in a month before back when I was at my heaviest, but never in a week. If he actually does it I'll share with you guys how he did it!

Tonight DH and I are having our last pre-baby date night. We're going to our favorite movie theater to watch Detective Pikachu (I wanted to see Aladdin, but DH was more against that than I was against Pikachu, and my BFF assures me it's worth seeing) then to our favorite Indian restaurant for dinner. I have an early release from work today for the holiday so we get to do both! Tomorrow we're going to spend doing absolutely nothing, just hanging around the house snuggling with the cats. It will be our last day where we're able to do absolutely nothing, probably forever emoticon

I am supposed to get a call later today from a nurse at the hospital to tell me where to go and what to expect on Sunday. The maternity center only has two floors so I am pretty sure I know where to go, but I do have some questions about what will be going on that I hope she can answer. I am probably being overly anxious, as is my wont, but I am a first time mom so this is all very new to me.

I also have laundry to do. DH seems to have lost my clothing that he packed when the carpet replacers were coming, so I am stuck with just the few outfits from the closet - everything from the drawers has mysteriously disappeared. I'll need to do that tonight or tomorrow if I want clean underthings for the hospital!

Feline: It looks like you are pretty well set. I look forward to an update when Baby makes his premiere!

And if DH can just lose 20 lbs in a week he needs to share that with the world!

Kali: You sound like we did here for the first of the mowing season. It looks like Jim and I will be out there this weekend. Then I'll have an excuse to swim with Brenna.

MIL refused anything from Lowes or Home Depot. We all tried. emoticon Our nephew works for John Deere. He's a certified John Deere mechanic and he's the one that said old mower is a lost cause back last fall. After MIL (his Nana) called him at work having a hissy fit. He looked at the summer package deal (there are attachments he wanted) they run this week. With his discount, it's affordable, according to him. He will have a nice monthly payment of $125 for the next 5 years. That thing is the price of a small used. He still lives at home with his mom and step-dad (don't blame him) and his yard connects to MIL. He bought the mower himself and told her nicely to hush. She's not happy but she's stopped fussing.

MIL is a drama queen and has been for YEARS. She will have something new to be in a tizzy about next week.

And this is why I tell people my stress really isn't my own. It just kinda gets dumped in my lap. Stuff here at home is on even keel.

We go to the allergist this morning at 8 am. Brenna has testing, but it's nothing new. She has a training session. She's been trained at home for self administer, but she needs to be certified for the school. Which takes 2 minutes. She has to use the trainer in front of the nurse at the office. We get new paperwork filled out saying she's okay to self carry for field trips and such and then we are good to go. All the other adults are sweating it more than me or Brenna. Then we get to go do a little fun shopping, have lunch, and then back home to do a whole lot of nothing the rest of the day. Well, she can do nothing. I have a laundry mountain.

Eva - bath bombs! A super start to summer. Never heard of a gonoodle, but it sounds like the ticket for inside days. Bummer about your MIL - hope she finds a way to cut her grass.

Feline - sounds like all is good to go. (Love that DH can lose 20 lbs. in a week...)
emoticon
Richard - hope the stress is lessened.

emoticon emoticon emoticon was interrupted by 1 day of emoticon yesterday, so the grass is becoming a hayfield. We may be able to mow tonight if the burst this morning dries, but we will see.
Planning on smoking ribs for emoticon day and looking forward to sharing the prep with DH.

Eva: A card game is a good idea, we have several. They won't take up as much room and won't look so weird since I can just slip them into the suitcase with my stuff, or into my purse, rather than him tucking the box under his arm. I am checking in at 7:00am and my OB expects with how far dilated and effaced I am that I should be meeting my baby by evening, so I am thinking 10-12 hours if not faster. Still a long time to wait, but not as bad as my MIL was going on about. I invited my mom into the room with us, and she invited her wife. I was a little off-put at first because that's a lot of people when you start including all the doctors and nurses, but the more I think about it the less I mind. My stepmom is the kind of person that makes sure things happen - so while I probably won't be in the mindset to argue for myself, she will do it for me.

Go Noodle looks awesome! What a great resource. My niece does yoga at school, I wonder if they use Go Noodle or something like it for that?

Sometimes you just have to accept that something is no longer worth the upkeep. I know how hard it can be to accept that - DH had to come to that realization with his car when we got the new one the other week. There are some fairly affordable riding mowers out there, I don't know if John Deer makes them in that price range but there are some nice ones. Maybe Jim can take her out some weekend to look for one.

The pack n play is all set up. DH ripped off the foam on one of the bars before reading the BRIGHT RED sticker that says removing the foam poses a risk of serious injury or death so he had to figure out how to replace the foam when it came time to place the bars. I think we've got everything we'll need for when baby comes home, we can trickle in the rest of the registries over time as his immediate needs are going to be taken care of. Except for toiletries my go bag is set up. I am trying to figure out what needs to go in the diaper bag for the hospital - I found a nice, succinct list online so I will probably use that. We got our rocker ordered, but unfortunately there's no 2-day shipping or rush shipping on it. Because of its weight it will take as long as it takes, which is the 29th. It's no big worry though - baby will mostly sleep at first, so we can snuggle on the couch in front of the nice warm fireplace while he sleeps and nurses. DH exceeds the weight limit for the rocker, which worries me, but he seems to think it's not a big deal because I will mostly be the one using it, and he can lose 20lbs in a week with no problem. I'm like...if it's that easy, why haven't you been doing that?? And also, if it's that easy, teach me your secret emoticon

Feline: I like DH is trying to keep you entertained. There will be a tray table in your suit so maybe you can set it up there. Or maybe he can bring a card game instead. I was in labor for 11 1/2 hours. It could be fast and then it could take literally half the night.

I'm so glad baby has grown! I know we won't hear from you for a while. You'll be tired. But I want you to know I'll be thinking about you.

Richard: What's going on?

We lucked up and found out gonoodle now has a Roku app. It's a really cool kids indoor activity website. Teachers love it. But they also do summer programs. Almost like an at home camp. It's very physical for the days when outside ain't happening. www.gonoodle.com/

MIL called last night in tears. I told Jim he's going to have to start dealing with her some. My nerves can't take it and I'm not a lawnmower mechanic. She should have listened to all of us last fall and cut her losses when her John Deer started being a money pit. But she didn't and it died yesterday. She got mad at me an hung up on me because I told her I don't know what to tell her but to replace it and she might have to buy something that didn't cost the same as a small car. She could have replaced it for what the repairs have cost her.

Baby is doing well enough that they cancelled tomorrows BPP, since I've had two already this week. I had a student ultrasound tech following the tech today so while we waited for the doctor she started a growth check - and he gained a whole pound! He checked in at 6lbs today, which is most excellent. I've been eating extra protein this past week and I guess it helped. They're estimating between 5-7lbs when I deliver on Sunday.

We ordered our rocker, a bit too late as it won't be delivered until the 30th. Baby and I will just have to have some quality time in front of the fireplace on the couch until it arrives. If Rue isn't too much a scaredy cat we can have some good three person naps since she tends to sleep between my knees.

I think my go bag is pretty much packed, except for toiletries. DH wants to bring a board game to play since we don't know how long things will take. I think that's kind of weird, and have no idea where we'd set it up, but he thinks it'd be a good distraction since it's one I like to play.

Today is the only sunny day on the forecast for this week. Sunday is expect to be 82(!) but rainy, and it's rainy and stormy the rest of the week, too. We had a nice thunderstorm last night. I love the rain so it's been pretty relaxing for me.

Kali: That's a relaxing game. I've never played on a live board. It sounds fun. I hope you dry out. Our rain has been on the weekends. That means Eva gets to do it all during the week.

We have rain today ourselves! And since we are on allergy testing prep I'm kinda thankful. No antihistamines until after Friday morning's appointment. So if she was to react to something, she'd just have to itch for the most part. I'm limited in what I can do.

Yesterday we moved a set of doll drawers to where she wanted them, made bath bombs, and she sculpted something out of clay. She started her summer off right.

Feline - what a fun girls' time! And glad you've got your team (including DH) getting ready for the baby.
Eva - give Bug our emoticon and emoticon
You have to be so proud and I'm glad your summer is starting.

emoticon seems to be the new normal here - that and cold weather. Hoping to get @ least one dry day to work in the yard before the weeds take over. Oh and I 'got' my first two 'Man-jonggs' yesterday - fun game!

Feline: It sounds like Baby is ready to meet the world on his schedule. He's got stuff to do! Like, meet a cousin for a doughnut eating contest! I am glad you had a good weekend.

I'm like you on the books. I'd want them in the room with Baby. We had hundreds of books. Still do! If nothing else invest in totes to store. I've also seen some cool gutter shelves.

Kali: It sounds like a busy and productive weekend! Retirement is keeping you busy!

I'm sorry I was MIA yesterday. I was a bit busy. Awards day was yesterday. Brenna has the highest math average (this was a surprise. It was her personal lowest average. Someone had a 100 average in science. Her's was a 99.5. She informed us she'd get it next year!), She was on superintendent's list for all A's, she received a citizenship award and the Hornet award. The hornet award is for exemplary behavior and work ethic. I didn't have a clue. I had to look that one up.

Today starts our summer. So after chores this morning I believe I'm in for my first recorder lesson.

I made it through the weekend with nothing more exciting than irregular contractions and some cramping. So no dragging my niece to the hospital with me on our girls day! She had an absolute blast on Saturday. She got as many donuts as she wanted for breakfast (her little tummy held THREE chocolate donuts), and she was sooo excited for her first mani/pedi. She loved the whole thing - especially the exfoliate and lotion they put on her legs. She thought it smelled delightful. She wanted long nails like mine, so with permission from her parents I got her a set of acrylics. The stylist did a great job giving her longer nails that were still appropriate for a six-year old. She was gushing all day about how beautiful her nails are. She didn't like any of the restaurants at the mall (I don't really blame her, the food court has REALLY changed) so she had sorbet for lunch (it still has fruit, right?) and then I had $95 to spend on whatever she wanted, plus a little extra from her easy to convince uncle. She dragged me into Victoria's Secret because of the pretty "bathing suit" in the window and discovered thongs are a thing. She thinks they are just so SILLY and doesn't know why ladies would wear them. She was begging for some of the nice smelling VS perfume, but I didn't think her parents would approve of her having Passion or Seduction so we moved on out to the next store. I think her two favorite stores were Candyopolis and Justice, she got two bags of bubble gum from Candyopolis and an adorable tiger print shirt/short set and an LOL from Justice. She picked Chinese for dinner and discovered she loves chicken teriyaki. She was encouraging me to eat more for dinner even after I was full, because even if I was full the baby wasn't because her logic is my tummy size is actually HIS tummy size so he needs lots of food, lol. It was a fun if tiring day. She was bouncing around telling her dad all about it when we said our goodbyes, and on Sunday I needed two recovery naps.

This week I get three BPPs, since my OB has decided to forego anymore NSTs since he keeps failing them. And if I make it through the week I am being induced Sunday morning, so I might not be around a lot next week. I am getting the last of the little things trailing in the mail, and DH installed the car seat last night. I just need to finish getting the pack n play set up, finish packing my go bag, and double check my registries for any last minute needed items. This week is pretty much all about baby.

Eva - congrats on summer starting and finding a crow position that works for you. Your summer sounds full and fun!

Feline - love the bookcase and hope you will be delivering soon. I'm sure it's a surprise to be so early, but you'll get an additional month of love!

Yesterday started with Early Birds and 'soul cards'. We found images that spoke to us and made and then shared our cards. Mine was a morel mushroom background with LL Bean boots, a Christmas garland and Roman inscribed column. I wasn't sure what drew me to the images, but as I put it together, it occurred to me that my dad took me mushroom hunting, Mark took me camping and I took myself through an education and career in architecture. Gotta love the living and learning that others (and myself) enjoy...
After a morning of man-jongg practice, I worked in the yard. One more pile of limbs loaded (too wet to move it this morning) and backyard mowed. Dinner with the gang to celebrate another friend's retirement and stormy weather overnight.

A beautiful morning allowed us to repair the outside kennel (snow load destroyed the cover), clean out the shed, find the garage light switch (after trying to change 2 bulbs) and mow + trim the front. We moved some decorative rocks in front of a downspout hoping stop some water runoff, repaired part of our stone walkway and tackled a few weeds. Hoping to accomplish more tomorrow, but right now we're relaxing after our Saturday cheeseburger. (Honest Abes - fungus amongus - yum!)

Kali: What a great anniversary! I'll be celebrating 5 years in July!

Eva: I kind of like this one I found on Wayfair for $179, it goes with the woodlands nursery theme . DH thinks we can just put books on top of the drawers, but I have over 100 books for him! We could put some in the garage and shift them out, but I'd love to get as many as possible into the room.

At the appointment yesterday I was even further dilated and effaced, even with nonstop resting. My doctor said she was honestly surprised I wasn't already in labor and expected I could go into labor naturally as soon as this weekend. We set the induction date for the 26th, but she said she wouldn't be offended if I came in sooner, lol. I won't be surprised, either. Baby is LOW and I have several of the symptoms of impending labor (according to Dr. Google), so I think he's ready to meet the world.

I am feeling uncomfortable and very nervous. I don't think anyone is really ready for a baby, but I just don't feel ready. I was planning on a June 16th baby and he's coming nearly a month early!

Sounds like an active start to a busy summer. I'm sure everyone will have a fun summer break! My niece will be going to a day camp type thing where she gets to swim, do crafts, go on field trips - that kind of thing. She wasn't too excited about it until she heard she'd get to swim every day, that perked her right up!

Kali: Happy Anniversary! I know hearing that kind of news is freeing!

Feline: I think letting your niece help pick out a chair is wonderful. It could be there's a time she sits with her cousin there as well. Being a part of the choice will definitely make her feel like a big girl and know she's important. Maybe you'll find a shelf while you're there as well.

I'm glad DH has come around, regardless of the decision on the date. He's just thinking of the safety of both you and Baby. That's excellent from my perspective.

How are you feeling?

It's the last full day of school for my kiddo since I plan to use parent notes for Tuesday and a checkout a slip for half of Monday. I'm actually very excited to get this summer on the road. Brenna has helped plan this summer's work and I'm kinda ready to start my recorder lessons and her cooking lessons. She brought her recorder home from school yesterday with her belts on it and her sheet music. Plus we have several more books.

I was pleased that instead of "flying" in crow I could stay in my favorite squat. So there was no face planting, but there was a nice stretch in my low back.

Eva - glad to hear the kids are playing and your crow pose sounds intriguing - I'm sure there will be no 'face-plant'.

Feline - glad to hear you have options on dates and your niece can assist in rocking chair selection. (I'm sure she'd love it). Hope you find a bookshelf or pockets for the books. It will be great to have them readily available.

Eva: It's actually the opposite, DH has come around to induction and is now advocating for the 26th. I was leaning towards the 1st - my OB would be able to be there, my mom could get more time off from work, it's not a holiday, Saturday suits DHs schedule better - but DH pointed out those are all outside reasons, and the bottom line is the high risk doctor was worried enough about waiting that extra week to order two extra ultrasounds and has been recommending the 26th since he realized I'd need an induction. So if baby needs to come out when I hit full-term that should be the main reason I consider, not the little details. Because my OB has equally capable colleagues and my high risk doctor will be there regardless of the date, I can wait a week for my mom to have time off, DH will be there regardless of the date, and a holiday birth means baby will always have his birthday off from work. I see my OB this afternoon, though, so I will talk to her in more detail about it all - she sent me an email yesterday saying she's okay with either date and it's my choice.

I am mainly hoping for a rocker that reclines, so I can lean back while feeding him. Whenever we have my niece she always begs to stay with us longer so I am thinking I might just make searching for the chair part of her outing. She's super excited about the baby, and I bet getting to help pick something for his nursery would make her feel grown up and involved in his birth. Plus, bonus, the furniture store has a candy shop by the check-out counter with locally made candies and fudge. The in-laws didn't give us the bookshelf (the one thing I was hoping for) so we don't have space for the books we have for him, if I find a rocker with that many pockets I am grabbing it!

Feline: Is DH more comfortable with June 1st? How was the OB appointment?

I loved our rocking chair. I had one with what seemed like 14 pockets on the sides. We kept it stuffed with books. Brenna "read" to the cat in that chair. I hope you find one you love.

I can't wait to hear how your princess's day goes!

Kali: I'm glad you enjoyed your nephew's wedding. It sounds to me like you're as busy in retirement as you were when you worked. But it's a different kind of busy so I imagine it suits you.

It's winding down here. Today is "Park Day" at school. The kids are pretty much just playing this week and the teachers, bless them, are just riding herd.

Today is day 4 of my Kali yoga flow challenge. It features the crow pose. I've never done crow. I have a fear of faceplanting. So I'm hoping she gives some instruction for when you aren't ready to lift your feet in the arm balance.

Eva - sounds like the whirlwind is winding down.

Feline - emoticon Kudos on your assignments and the nursery. Enjoy the mall this weekend - the storms may indeed be coming...

Quick trip to Destin for our nephew's wedding. The rain held off and the overcast skies kept the temperature and humidity @ bay, so it was a perfect event. The kids planned it, so as you can imagine there was miscommunication and disorganization, but all in all it was more than fun.

Made a quick pick-up @ Sams this morning for groceries and of course, forgot milk and butter, but @ least there's some food in the house. ZB massage @ noon. CASA meeting @ 4:00 and then Man-jongg class @ 6:00. Whoever thought retirement was boring hasn't experienced it!

Kali: Hi! Hope all is well!

Eva: It was eventful. I failed the NST again, but this time there were no heart accelerations so I got sent to the hospital for monitoring. They finally had some accelerations after 4 hours and he passed the BPP so my OB and my high risk doctor both okayed me going home, but I have a LONG list of things to go back in for if I notice. His appointment today went okay. He gained about half a pound so he's 5lbs even now. The high risk doctor is still recommending induction on the 26th, but my OB will be gone until June 1st so he said if I come in for an ultrasound each week he'd be comfortable extending to the first. So I get two more ultrasounds and a tentative induction date of June 1st if things continue along the "okay" path. I'll see my OB tomorrow to see if she's still okay with June 1st or if she'd be more comfortable with the 26th and having a colleague attend my birth. I kind of just want him out at this point, he's making me nervous!

We got the rest of the nursery furniture yesterday and the nursery looks pretty good! We're just waiting on frames for the artwork and things will come together nicely. We sorted through the clothes we've gotten and we don't have a lot of newborn things - but I got some Carter's coupons in the mail this morning so we might just have to stop by the store this weekend while we're rocking chair shopping!

I got the grades for my last two assignments in - A's on both, so I can rest assured I got an A in the class. I don't start school again until August now. I'm looking forward to the break, but also worry I won't want to finish now!

This weekend is my girly day with my niece. The weather is predicting storms on Saturday, so I think the mall will be the perfect indoor activity. My SIL tells me my niece is so excited about going she's squealing!

Kali: Hi!

Feline: How was your appointment?

There are worse things than induction and in some cases, it's safest for mom and baby. I will say that the "horrors of birth" have nothing to do with why I don't want more kids. It's honestly a financial decision. I'd have tried for a boy if I wasn't insecure about future costs of raising children. Anyway, I think your doctor will lead you in the healthiest direction with all things considered. It's my experience doctors would rather let babies come when they are ready if it's safe for everyone involved.

I have a stack of books on my table and nothing to read LOL. So I can relate.

I think the information was handled well, but The Care and Keeping of You has an advice column style in some parts. That's probably when "poorly handled" came in. What I read was more "be patient with your changing body." in every scenario. The truth is I'm just trying to take the embarrassment out of the 6th-grade health class she will have to take. The information was correct. Last night she read over the "body changes" parts. And it jump-started a few questions. In the end, that's what i wanted to accomplish. But if your kid doesn't ask you questions, then you might want a different source.

We have 3 more alarms. Awards day is this coming Monday then she is done until August 5th. I'm ready to sleep in on Tuesday the 21st!

Eva: I get that. We tried for years for this baby, and needed medical intervention to succeed. So having another baby will also have to be very planned. DH says once I've gone through the birthing process I'll never want to do it again - but I have multiple friends with at least 5 children, so I don't think he knows what he's talking about. But who knows, by the end I could be like "I never want to see you again"!

I used to draw, but my joints have gotten too bad for that anymore. I have a degenerative joint condition - throw in the pregnancy swelling and some days I am lucky to be able to fill out the daily forms I need to for work. I do like to read. It's been so long since I've had time for fun reading I don't even know where to begin. I looked at some of my "to be read" books at home and was like...why did I buy these? So I need to hunt down some new books to read. Unfortunately being in a SID means I don't have access to a library emoticon

The Care and Keeping of You 1 & 2 are good books, but I know a lot of parents complain that the way they address insecurities is done poorly. Another good one is The Period Book.

Today is my next non-stress test. I failed my last one, so hopefully little bub is more awake today. Tomorrow is his growth scan to see if I still need to be induced. DH is vehemently against me being induced, but while I am quite against them using Pitocin, I think it might be nice to actually have a planned date for when it's all goin' down. Thursday I see my OB to talk about the results of Wednesday, so that's when everything will be arranged and decided. It's been the longest week ever and it's only Tuesday morning!

Feline: Each family has to figure out what works best for them. And be prepared that at some point that might change. I wouldn't worry about school just yet. You have it figured out for Baby when he gets here. By the time he starts school, the ratings may flip flop or you might home school. Who knows.

I was a one and done, but that's mostly because of female issues partnered with I didn't want more kids than I can afford.

I'm happy you have a break until Baby gets here! So what do you think you'd like to do in your free time? Do you read? or draw maybe?

On today's agenda: Read "The Care and Keeping of You." It's part of our summer program. I have to approach the body stuff this summer because next school year they approach it in health class. I'd rather teach it before they teach it. Bug's kinda shy about her body in the first place. I'd rather her not die of embarrassment in health class. The book is for kids, but I want to know what it says before we begin.

Eva: I didn't know that about hair follicles, interesting.

We've done the math for our area and after switching to a less expensive daycare (he finally saw the light!) it works out to being better with me working since my salary will still cover the mortgage. I want to try for a girl in the future, while he wants to be "one and done", so we'll reevaluate if we decide to try for another child, but at the moment I am stuck as a working mom.

The public school system DH and I went to was pretty good, but we don't live in their area. We do live in a SID though, which means we get a little bit of a choice in what school he will go to. He can either go to the school system for the city that owns the SID, the small school system in the town over, or to the major school system for the metro area. All three get bussed through our SID. The SID city is probably the closest, while the best rankings probably go to the metro area (although they're going through a major money scandal right now).

I know what you mean about it not being your cup of tea. I was a year from qualifying to be a Home Ec teacher but I finally admitted to myself children were just not the demographic for me. My masters and PhD both involve young adults. I'd be willing to teach my own children because I have issues with the public school system, but I don't know how well I'd do if I were to be asked to homeschool a whole group.

My Mother's Day was good! My teacher said my work has been so perfect he didn't need to grade my previous assignment for me to turn in my final project so to turn it in whenever I was done with it, so I got all my homework for the class turned in. I am officially on Baby Break until August when I take my comprehensive exams. DH took me out to lunch and then for a massage, then I snuggled with my cats and watched Law and Order: SVU until DH made us dinner.

Now that all my homework is turned in I don't really know what to do with myself. I get to work around 6:45-7:00, but my shift doesn't start until 8:30. Normally I study or workout - but I am on pelvic rest and have no homework! Doctor said go to work and go home, just rest rest rest.

Feline: Congrats on the new car!

Chemo changes the shape of your hair follicle. That's probably why you developed a little flip. That's an odd bit I learned in beauty school. There are other medications that do it too. Another happens to be certain heart meds given after a stent. My instructor was an older lady and thought we should know that for clients that came in during health issues. I've found out that meds for Afib cause the hair to be resistant to chemicals.

Jim and I did the math for child care/travel vs. what my income would be and we are actually better off if I don't work. But that's for our area. So I stay at home.

Brenna is in public school. We can't afford private school, and still couldn't if I worked, so I fill in the gaps myself. It's pretty rewarding. That's why I developed "summer programs" for here at home. We are blessed to be in one of the best districts in the state, but it's still lacking. I've had parents in the area ask why I don't run a summer "camp" because they would send their kids. It's flattering, but I don't think it's my cup of tea.

How was your first mother's day? It counts as you have a munchkin on the way! Jim and Bug made me breakfast and dinner. Then they gifted me with a weighted blanket used as an anti-anxiety tool.

Today is field day. Bug wants to navigate most of the day on her own. Which is cool, but I'm headed over to the kickball tournament about 12:30 with cold drinks to celebrate a game well played.

Eva: I've got the room under my desk to put my feet up, I'd just have to bring a stool or something to do so. It's an enclosed desk so nobody would see my feet propped up so I don't think anybody would mind if I brought one. I have two beautifully carved (into cats of course) ones at home, I just need to find where we stored them.

DH was genuinely worried the car wouldn't make it through the weekend, and the dealership closes early on Fridays, so we got our new car last night. It's a 2017 Chevy Cruze - nice trunk size, spacious back seat, comfy seats, high tech dashboard for my tech savvy husband, and a four star safety rating.

I have the opposite problem with my hair - it's so straight even getting it permed didn't work! It's a little wavier now after growing back after chemo (it's got a little flip at the sides and bottom) which I attribute to it being a little thicker, but it is nigh impossible to style.

I've been telling people since about Junior High that housewife is what I want to be when I "grow up". It still is, but we just can't financially manage it yet. DH doesn't think I would like being a housewife - he says I may not see it, but he sees me happier working than when I stayed home for a year. That was also the year after I went into remission from cancer, so, I would say I probably am happier to not be sick! But I've always wanted to homeschool and DH isn't willing to consider private or boarding school, so I am quite anxious about sending baby to public school (even though that's a good 5-6 years away). I'll probably supplement their curriculum with activities at home, and I know DH is hoping for a child as interested in technology as he is so I am guessing he will be, too.

Feline: Stress doesn't have to be physical. Can you put your feet up at work? That might help with the contractions. If you can, I believe I'd look into the PTO time.

What kinds of cars is DH interested in? You definitely want something reliable with a baby. I will admit I love my little Santa Fe. It has a lot of room and plenty of space for hauling strollers and the like. I had a Ford Taurus when Bug was a baby. Getting that big stroller in and out of a regular trunk was a pain. I got a van to replace it and the hatch was convenient. But I admit, I like the Santa Fe better.

I cut about 4 inches off yesterday. I still have a small pony tail. Hair ages you. Once you hit past 35 shorter hair makes you look younger because it lifts the features up. Long hair calls attention to wrinkles. But in the winter I like some it longer to keep my neck warm. And it pulls some of the annoying wave out of it. My hair refuses to be tamed by heat, rollers or curling iron.

Ladder Ball: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNZn7rBfkK4

It's easy enough your niece could do it, but challenging enough an adult has fun too. My mother bought a set at Walmart for $20. It converts to cornhole and washers as well. The ladder ball is our favorite!

We do have a lot of fun. I grew up before screens were available 24/7. I understand the benefits of modern tech but I also understand the importance of time without it. She's an only child and there are not many kids her age in the neighborhood, so part of my job is to make sure she doesn't live her life on a screen somewhere. That's why my house looks like a craft project waiting to happen and we do a number of "old school" activities. I won't lie, I lost a lot of my baby weight playing with my toddler because I didn't want her sitting in front of Disney Jr. too long. Neither way is wrong. It's just a preference in parenting style. Of course, our household seems to run on a "1950's vibe." Where I stay home and manage the house and DH is the "breadwinner." It works for us. It's not for everyone. But I think maybe that's why I'm such a weird parent.

Eva: I go on maternity leave when I go into labor. Depending on what my high risk doctor says on the 15th I am thinking about taking some PTO, though. If he still wants me induced on the 26th maybe taking PTO for the week of the 20th just to get some things done around the house and get some extra rest. My job isn't particularly strenuous, it's a desk job, but I am still tired and feeling contractions by the end of the day that go away when I put my PJs on and recline on the couch.

DH finally admitted I was right and we need a new car now and not in two years. The car is acting up even more, and he's not sure it will survive the weekend, so sometime in the next few days we're turning it in and getting a new used car. My only real requirement is heated seats so he might go without me like he has in the past, but I know he wanted me to go with this time. I told him just to remember there will be a baby on board now and he needs room for that.

I finished my second to last assignment but my teacher is traveling so he's asked I wait until Saturday to turn it in. I need the grade and comments from it to turn in my final assignment, but since I've done so well so far I'm just going to go ahead and start working on it. It'd be nice to take the weekend off but I am so close to finishing this class now it will also be nice to have no homework at all.

I don't think I've heard of ladder ball, what is that? Sounds like you two have a lot of fun!

We've had rain for the last three days, but we're not supposed to get rain today. Just cold and clouds. I've been considering cutting my hair, too. Doesn't it feel so nice after it's freshly cut and you've got that breeze across your neck? I look cute with short hair and I know the maternity fluff will fall out after having baby, so it might be nice to get it cut before the major heat hits and not have pull-able hair. But I also love having long hair to put in ponytails and braids so I've been growing it out for about a year. It's just above my shoulders now.

Feline: Congrats on the A. And if the professor didn't read it, be happy. It's also possible you are the curve he will grade by since you're on an accelerated schedule.

Poor DH. At least he's finally moving with Baby purpose? Most 36-week babies go to the NICU here as well. Brenna was a 39-week baby. I have faith that if you listen to your doctor and you keep your stress low you'll hit your 37-week mark. And he will be fine. When do you go on maternity leave?

We have kickball tournaments in the back yard on the regular. We need to put some air in the basketball too. We play ladder ball and we often race. I'll have to see about adding hurdles in there.

I'm cutting my hair off today. We've hit the 84 degrees mark for the first time this year. That means it's time. The rain decided my rest day was to be delayed. So I cut the grass yesterday, ahead of the deluge we expect today, and today I will relax. Right after I cut this hair off.

Eva: I got my second steroid shot today, so we're prepared if he decides to make his appearance soon. Room-wise we just need to figure out if the in-laws are still giving us his old furniture, since they've made no further mention of it. We need at least a dresser to put the changing mat on and his clothes in. DH is a little freaked out right now, understandably, so has taken up cooking duties for the week and spent all last night with me - even going to bed when I did! I'm 34w right now so the OB is hoping he hangs on until 37w but he might not. Anything before 37w is an automatic trip to the NICU at our hospital.

I don't remember enough about any of the instruments I played to teach my niece, except you hit the drums with the little end, lol.

Brenna might have fun with obstacle courses! You guys could build them in your backyard and hold mini Olympics. Creative and athletic.

Remarkably, I got a perfect score on my last assignment, even without knowing what I was doing. It makes me question whether my teacher even read it. It was a worksheet instead of a paper and I did answer every question, but I didn't even hit the minimum page length with my answers and didn't cite my answers. Makes me wonder how the other students did! I had considered skipping the assignment, but I am in a group on Facebook that makes decisions for you and they told me to do it. So I guess I should be grateful to them.

Feline: You're going to be fine. You'll have to be okay with letting your exercise regimen go at the moment. Baby needs momma to stay off her feet as much as she can and stay calm.

I know plenty of 36 week babies that were just fine.

Could you give your niece lessons at some point? She might enjoy them.

Thank you for your suggestions. I wrote them down. Brenna seems excited to be in charge of something. I try for her not to live on a video game or in front of a tv for the entire summer. I try to come up with stuff to do that engages the brain but isn't classic school work. She's not interested in the summer programs at the library anymore. Which I get. They are geared toward younger kids. I also want her moving. We swim a lot. She's currently writing her own superhero themed yoga sequence. When it's done I plan to share just because I'm impressed.

I get a day off today! No one has a thing they want me for. emoticon

Eva: Shel Silverstein is fun! He had songs and poems. There's also a book for middle-schoolers called "The Best Poems Ever" you might have a look at.

My schedule just got even tighter. I had an OB appointment this morning and I am 3cm dilated, 60% effaced. She's thinking I might not even make it to my induction so has ordered twice weekly NSTs to keep an eye on baby and has me on a strict regimen of rest to ensure nothing triggers labor earlier than it's already going to come. My boss keeps telling me not to stress (I jokingly said they're NON-stress tests so I can't stress) but I still have two assignments left and am so worried I will go into labor before my final project is done. Technically I have until June 9th to turn it in, so with the accelerated program I have a few weeks to recover and work on it, but I so wanted it done before baby came.

The recorder is so much fun! My brother and I had them when we were younger and absolutely loved them. I wanted to get my niece a Frozen themed one but my brother threatened me, lol. I think the idea of letting her teach you is a neat one - she'll get a lot out of that kind of leadership.

Feline: You'll use that pack and play more than a bassinet. She sleeper portion is bigger than the bassinet too. He can stay in there a little longer.

You were probably right not to order more than the 1 box of diapers. Most babies don't stay in that particular size more than a couple of weeks. I know your guy is small but he might surprise you on how fast he grows.

I hope the assignment passes muster. You're on a tight schedule now for sure!

We went to the recorder concert last night. I wish I could upload a video. The kids did a wonderful job. Brenna is considering band verses 4-H. I think 4 -H will suit her better. She's offered to swap teaching me music for me teaching her to cook, which I think is really cool. I believe I'll take her up on it. I play a little piano. Very little. Besides, I think it might do her some good to have roles reversed every once in a while.

Also among the summer "schedule" is cursive writing practice. I plan to have her copy poems and song lyrics to practice. Any pieces you suggest for her to take a look at?

We have 8 more alarms this school year. I believe I'm ready.

Mini: Thank you, have a good day at work!

Eva: The bassinet I wanted was sold out, and I couldn't find it anywhere else either, so we ordered a pack n play instead. Probably better, anyway, since it's portable and can go to the grandparents for visits and babysitting. I ordered a BIG box of newborn diapers, 100+ in the box. I should probably have gotten two boxes but we'll see how fast he grows once he's getting the nutrients he needs. He's small because of his sideways umbilical cord impeding his nutrients and my seizure meds which have a known effect of smaller babies. The doctor is hoping he has a growth spurt, but we're keeping a close eye on him for the next two weeks. DH and I had thought that maybe with my brother being 10lbs and him being 10lbs my seizure meds might even out the genetics to an average sized baby, but it's looking like he might be a small guy after all.

Between the carpet replacement, my poor kitty, and the news of the induction I didn't have a chance to do any school reading so my latest assignment was very difficult and poorly done. I am expecting a poor grade and possibly an offer to rewrite it, but I only have two assignments left in the class and just want to get them over with. The final project will likely take me longer than the normal assignments and I want to get these done before the induction! I have to write a study proposal for my next assignment, and the final project is pretending I actually did the study and writing a paper with how I expect the study to have gone. I am thinking of doing an experimental study on high schoolers who either do get to or don't get to take a vocational exploration class in school, and study their school burnout scores before and after the class. See if direct relationships to work refreshes their interest in school.

I am glad your doctor appointment went well, and that you have a doctor who listens to you. Sometimes doctors have their own agenda to push and that can be rough. I tried B supplements for awhile, and B6 sent my anxiety into hyperdrive! I hope it works well for you.

Kali: Glad to hear you got your sister into the hot tub and to swim. Maybe it was motivation! Hope the plumbing isn't a big job!

Feline: I'm glad your guy is better and that everyone is back home and happy. How are you? I hope Baby takes a notion to grow before they have to induce. You're in my prayers.

DH has no clue how many diapers a baby needs. You'll use that cake in a week LOL.

Mini: Hello! how are you?

My doctor's visit went well enough. I'm lucky I have a doctor that listens. I have a history of addiction in the family and am reluctant to get on meds that can lead down that road. So the doctor did her due diligence. I have some low B-vitamins. 12 and 6 are what she mentioned and my iron is at the very bottom of the normal range. She told me to get on a B complex supplement again to see if it balanced out the fatigue(b-12) and anxiety (b-6). If that doesn't work in a couple of months I'm to come to see her again and we will discuss other methods. She's getting my paperwork into the insurance company so I can use my teledoc therapy sessions. It's free to me with a doctor's referral. So I'm pleased. The rest of it is just the peri-menopause. Which I figured, but had to report. She also informed me that my anxiety was probably why I've gained some of my weight back. I've been "ordered" to stop worrying about the weight itself and relax. That will probably help with the weight gain. She happens to know I relax with Yoga and gardening.

So this weekend I moved perennials from one flower bed to another and helped get ready to open the pool for the summer.

Kitty is doing better, he needed an increase in his insulin and a night at the vet seemed to help greatly. He's also very VERY happy to be back home now that the carpet has been replaced. It was quite the battle to get everyone back into their carriers to take them home, but everyone is much happier.

I found out this morning that baby has stopped growing. I'm scheduled for a non-stress test on Tuesday and another ultrasound on the 15th. If he doesn't improve I am being induced at 37 weeks. Which means we have SO MUCH to do, like, oh my gosh. Our time is being cut in half! I am ordering the bassinet today, and trying to convince DH that we need to stock up on diapers. He says our diaper cake already has "a lot of diapers" and I just laughed at him. Babies sleep, cry, and poop. We need more diapers. I might just order some with the bassinet.

Eva: How'd the doctor go? Everything tip-top to keep your crew ship-shape?

Hello all - just a flyby as I'm back from a visit to MN to see my sister.
Hope all are well!

Update:
Feline - so sorry to hear about your cat. Hope you can bring him home soon.

Eva - glad you are taking care of yourself and I love the idea of a massive paper ball fight.

Trip to MN was good - cleared away 50 of 350+ boxes from my sister's MIL condo. Getting ready for an estate sale and then selling the condo next spring or summer. Sad to say my sis is heavier than I've seen her and her mobility has declined, but we got her into the hot tub and then swimming pool before I left - so progress is occurring!
Sprinkler system repaired in time for emoticon and indoor plumbing repairs will happen this weekend.

Feline: I can relate to old sick cats. Pearl was 16. Spirit is 18. I know sometimes there's nothing to do but love them or put them to sleep. Your kitty is lucky to have you.

I hope you can steal your niece on the 18th for your "Queen of the Day" treat. And hey! Sensible dinner won't be on you!

I'm off to the doctor this morning. I'm not one that likes to complain so I'm having to remind myself I need a tune-up so I can keep my bunch running straight.

Oh and Bug got her assignment on Monday's mock civil war battle. She's General Brenna K. For the Union army. I get to go watch a massive paper ball fight.

Eva: He got sicker, so I called my mom to pick me up and take him to the vet. We were worried about the worst but his diabetes is uncontrolled again and he has a bladder infection and low potassium, so they are keeping him overnight to get his sugar under control, hydrate him, give him antibiotics, and pump him with potassium. Hopefully we can take him home tomorrow feeling much better. The vet says our cat is breaking the rules by being 15 years old, it is very old for a cat, but in this case he thought he could be helped. He's lost more weight, though, so the vet said he absolutely cannot lose anymore weight. He's about as skinny as he can get.
