Harplute: I haven't had a chance to talk to the volunteer coordinator yet. My father had hip replacement surgery last week and my husband has been sick this week (which he so kindly passed to me last night) so we haven't gone to walk the dogs. I am hoping next weekend we'll be able to go again. I could just send her an email, but I'd rather talk to her in person.

It has been raining here all weekend, which kind of spoiled the fun of my birthday surprise for my husband. I had a fire pit delivered, but it's too big for me to set up on my own. With my dad out of commission and my brother helping him out I couldn't get it set up for him to find in the backyard, so he just had big boxes by the front door. We'll have to wait for the rain to stop to dolly them around back and set it up. I don't think he knows what's in them yet, but I am hoping he likes it. It's a nice firepit with lounge chairs.

Good Morning:

Sorry I've been MIA but it's been a busy week. I've been trying to catch up on my reading which, for some reason, I've neglected for a week or two.

I'm getting kind of antsy. Late this month I'm going on a long trip to Italy. I believe I'll be gone for 25 nights. I've been apprehensive about two things: terrorist activities and making my connecting flight. I wouldn't care much about the former if I had a direct flight from the US to Italy, but I need to change in Munich, Germany, and Germany has seen more than its share of violence. I supposedly have enough time (over an hour) to change in Munich, but I'm leaving from O'Hare and Chicago is well known for delays due to weather. I do have insurance, but who wants to miss a whole day? Then there's the complication of getting in touch with the company to let them know of my dilemma. I'm sure this must happen from time to time but.....

This trip will take me to southern Italy and the Italian island of Sicily. I once took a cruise and spent about 6 hours in Palermo, the capital of Sicily, but really didn't get much from 6 hours. I'm especially looking forward to seeing the landscape, beaches, Mt. Etna, and to getting a feel for the local color.

It's been unseasonably cooler here and a bit nasty these past couple of days. Today I'm supposed to be going to dinner (a belated Easter dinner) at my son-in-law's mother's home. Right now I'm on pins and needles because she's been know to cancel the last minute.

Sending you all a big hug,

Gail

Eva: Good for you for getting a day of rest. Need those from time to time. How is Bug doing? Is she back to normal?

Kali: Glad your presentation went well and that you got home safely. The weather in many parts of the country this week has been treacherous. I just read that a few people lost their lives in Texas. Has your area been pretty well free from the weather ravages?

Kim: I know that so many people are scared out of their minds when it comes to finances, insurance and retirement. The good news is that you have about 15 years ahead of you. You can really make a difference if you grab the bull by the horns and move into high gear. I realized that our retirement would be horrible if I didn't do something drastic fast about 15 1/2 years before I retired. I decided that I would save/invest my income in its entirety, and we would live off Vic's income....even if it was from hand to mouth. The outcome was successful, and now I am fine.

Feline: What a great idea to take the shelter dogs to the run next year. Did you get in touch with the shelter about this? Glad you went, even if you did it alone. And congrats on doing so well.

Eva - hope Bug is feeling better. Looks like teammate is moving south and investor recommended keeping out emerging market funds - continued growth expected.
Kim - so glad you ordered emoticon as I'm sure things will look emoticon and you'll be back on the trails. Glad to hear the roads were not snarled and I thought you might enjoy this article.

Hello everyone

You can never learn too much about money and retirement. I feel so unprepared at this point. I have a another 15 years or so but I feel like I have so far to go before I am ready. But I am actively working on it and that is the best I can do right now.

George W Bush was in town yesterday at a small local bookstore near my condo. We are a small town so his visit was quite the event in town. I was very afraid that traffic would be horrendous but I actually drove right by the bookstore twice with no issues. I would have liked to meet him but you had to get an armband for the event on a first come first served basis and they were sold out weeks ago. Oh well.

Even though I am not feeling well enough to get back To any major hiking, I went ahead and ordered a new pair of hiking boots. I am hoping that as I break them in, I will continue to gain strength and stamina. My friend and I will start with a couple of day hikes in Georgia later this summer. We will decide if we wear our packs or go light at that time.

Kali: Was the lecture enlightening? and the meeting with the team mate?

Well I picked up a sick kiddo for school yesterday. It's Tcap testing week so we went to the doctor to make sure (a) it wasn';t serious since we have, strep, mono, and flu still going around here and (b) to get a statement so she can make up the test. No statement no make up testing. Her temp was normal half an hour ago, but she's not 24 hours fever free so she's home with me for the day.

But I did get my quiet day in yesterday.

Eva - enjoy your quiet day. Well deserved.

I'm headed out to see my teammate and hope to learn more about whether she is moving to FL. Will get my steps in + have my zero balance massage @ noon. Tonight DH and I are attending a dinner lecture about investing. Timely as we think about retirement...

I too hope all have a super day!

Kali: Wow you were busy this weekend! I'm guessing hauling up the Jimmy Hostas was a heck of a work out. I hope they survive. The things are very resilient. I moved some of mine across the yard. We have an area where water drains regularly and bulb plants help anchor the soil.

I hope you all have a good day. I should be in for a quiet one. And for this I am thankful :)

Feline - how cool to finish in the middle of the pack and speaking of 'packs', it's doubly cool that you may have some pound pups walking with you next year!

Eva - the party sounds wonderful and I love that you were blessed with a recovery and science day. (PS - love the pics).

Busy emoticon weekend for us and we also played 16 holes of emoticon (short course). Lowes had some great topsoil on sale, so after some major weeding, we filled in the edge of the patio just before our neighbor offered more hostas. Too many to carry, so I just ended up throwing them (literally) over the fence. DH has dubbed them "Jimmy Hosta" plants as some look like they might not survive, but those planted on the patio edge are "coming back to life".
We also set two 4x4 landscape timbers to support the guy wires for our grapes. (I've had them for years and cut them back each fall, so was delighted they survived - we might actually get some grapes after securing them correctly...)
We mulched the Jimmy Hostas after golf as well as planted 5 tomato plants in the raised bed. (It was overrun with little production last year, so we're hoping for a better outcome this season...)
Re-roofing the house began today. We were able to wait as the house was still dry following the hail damage and Thursday we get another bid on the bay windows!

Kim: I'm a fountain of odd tips and useless information. But as a homemaker i find it helpful. I really never know what my husband or my daughter will bring to me and say, "Can you fix this?" So I try and usually do.

Kali: How did golfing go? Foot okay?

Feline: I'm sorry that no one walked with you, but I think it's fantastic you walked alone. I hope that the shelter/5k partnership happens for next year. Please keep us posted!

Well I've earned my day off! Bug's party was fantastic. And lucky me, it rained all weekend so I had a good excuse to sit in the house and watch Bill Nye Saves the World on Netflix yesterday. My kiddo snuggled with me and we began a new journey with Bill Nye the Science Guy. It was so nostalgic for me. I loved Bill Nye as a kid. This new show, by the way, is aimed at young teens and adults, but kiddos like mine love it too.

My brother's car broke down and my husband refused to do the 5K with me so I ended up walking alone. It wasn't too bad, I finished in an hour somewhere in the middle of the pack. My oncologist was there so that was kind of neat. I got a walker shirt and a survivor shirt, and was part of a group survivor photo before the walk that they take each year. I'll probably participate next year, too. Turns out they allow dogs so I might talk to the shelter and see if they would like to arrange some sort of partnership to get some of the shelter dogs out there next year, there are vests we can put on dogs when they go on field trips that say they're available for adoption. Since it's a free 5K maybe a group of walkers could take some of the dogs out and show them off.

Eva - the vodka tip is appreciated - will give it a "shot" next time I have any odor issues.
emoticon
Kim - glad you were able to catch up with your folks. I talk with my sis while out for my noon walk and love the opportunity

Am presenting @ a conference next week and thought I had the PowerPoint attached to a draft e-mail. I'll need to run into the office to retrieve so I can finish and send to our moderator. Planning some emoticon once it warms up - found hoeing is eliminating some of the worst weeds and I'll combine my office run with picking up some much needed topsoil.
Tomorrow is emoticon with DH followed by lunch - so looking forward to the first outing go the season!

Eve - I am so impressed with your random tips. Very helpful indeed! Who would have thought of soaking sneakers in vodka?!

Somehow I got a bit behind the 8 ball again this week and have been running around trying to get caught up. I have moved one client to Saturday this week and I think that will about do it for me. I did manage to talk to my parents on my drive home yesterday (thank goodness for hands free in the car!) I got all caught up with them and heard how much my niece and nephew loved visiting last week. That made my day for sure!!

Ms. Gail: What a wonderful way for a battery to go dead. I'm so glad you had a happy birthday :)

Kali: I'm sorry about the window and the dog bomb. Weird tip to remove shoe odor, you can spray it with vodka. If it's something like an athletic shoe it can be soaked in vodka over night. I know it's strange, but it works to keep athlete's sweaty foot odor at bay.

Feline: Congrats on your 3 year anniversary! I hope you have many more years of remission to celebrate.

Thank you for Bug's birthday wishes. I'm always the proud momma posting pictures. I'm just glad you all tolerate it so well :)

emoticon Gail! So glad to hear you were remembered.
Other than the one marker, the DNA test was fine and even that variant may explain my cough. Sent the info on to my oncologist, so it will be interesting to see if she comments on it in May.

Had window replacement folks look @ our bay window last night. After removing the metal wrap @ the sill, it became obvious repair is not an option. The good news is we'll have two operable panels and they can reinstall the original stained glass lights. The bad news is while discussing it with them, I stepped in a dog bomb and even though I washed my shoe, a faint odor remains...

Good Evening:

What a wonderful day! Today is my birthday and much to my amazement I got several cards and so many phone calls to wish me well that my cordless phone was telling me the batter was low!

My children, their spouses and all my grandchildren called. Also, a cousin, and several friends called and sent cards. Two friends are taking me out for a meal next week. Even my bank and insurance company sent birthday greetings.

Truly, I never expected this and am deeply touched. It isn't a landmark birthday, although i guess at my age every birthday is a landmark! I feel so blessed.

Gail

Eva: I'm sure Bug is all excited about the upcoming celebration. Do please post some photos.

Feline: Congrats on hitting the 3 year mark. I'm sure you'll do well on the run.

Kali: Anything surprising turn up with the DNA tests?

Kim: How are you doing? Anything special planned for the weekend?

Eva - looking forward to the seeing the emoticon pictures.
Feline - emoticon on your 3 year anniversary and the +$300 you've raised. I have my 5 year visit next month and am looking forward to starting 1/year check-ups.

Another emoticon day which is perfect for the newly planted hostas (although they still look pretty sad...)
Excited to receive my 23andMe health results. (I'd paid for the full reports, but the FDA didn't allow distribution until now, so I only had ancestry.) I have 1 variant in the SERPINA1 gene, which could lead to decreased levels of the alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) protein and may explain my chronic cough.

Kali: It's on Saturday, but I have raised over $300 so far! Some of my coworkers donated, even one of my counterparts in another city, which was so kind of them. My husbands parents donated, too, even though his mother is currently undergoing treatment herself. I had my 3-year appointment yesterday and I am all clear for another 6 months, so I will be walking to celebrate being in remission for 3 years emoticon

Bug and a good birthday yesterday. Her party is Saturday. I'm almost done with the decoration making. What's left is literally pulling strings. I think I might find something to watch while I do it. Picture blog to come later.

Gail - so glad your DD is settling in. I'm sure she'll do a super job and may be blessed with no notes... Love your Christmas cactus.

Kim - sounds like your weekend was perfect. Hope you caught the fleas in time and Eva's salt idea just might work!
Eva - great week! How apropos to visit Da Vinci during Brain week. emoticon to Bug!

Feline - hope your 5K was a success

Busy emoticon 4-day weekend. Started Thursday night with vine removal (high ones are still there, but they should wither). Friday it rained (I was upset, but am now grateful - if I'd worked that day too, I'd be crippled). Saturday and Monday we mowed, weeded, pruned, planted and worked until we dropped...
Feeling pretty good today after some pretty sore back and feet pain.
Hoping our mulchers came today. We'll have to see as it rained lightly this morning....

Eva - I love the non toxin tip. About how much salt do you recommend? I have file floors downstairs and wood laminate upstairs so I only have carpet on the stairs and then an area rug downstairs. Then a couple small throw rugs in the kitchen and bathrooms. Those should be easy.

I guess I would need to put some down on the sofa and armchairs as well. Maybe?

Peacefrog: Easter was not historically Christian, so Happy Easter to anyone who celebrates a holiday of the equinox!

Harplute: Pretty flower! I bet it looks very nice when it's all abloom.

Eva: Isn't it incredible how many things we use come from just a few inventors? And people now say that art isn't important, or that art and math or science have nothing in common. Try telling that to Da Vinci!

I have been dealing with frequent flare ups of my Stickler's, and I don't know why it's suddenly hitting me. Someone suggested a few years ago that losing weight could trigger an inflammatory response so maybe that's it. Regardless, Tylenol is a good friend right now. Saturday is my 5K so I hope it calms down by then.

Kim: salt your carpets and let it lay a full 24 hours then vacuum. It dehydrates the fleas and you don't have to bomb. You'll have to do it again in a couple of weeks to get all the larva but it will work. It's just table salt. I used newspaper on the floor and made a walking path so the salt didn't get everywhere.

Ms. Gail: Look at you working that technology! I'm proud of you and your Christmas cactus is beautiful!

I'm glad your daughter is enjoying her new position. I hope she gets the commute worked out.

Kali: How was the de-vining?

Discovery Park was fantastic. The Da Vinci exhibit was worth the time. My mom and Jim did not realize just how many products we use today that were based on Da Vinci's designs. Jim was fascinated by the spring car. I was very surprised that about half of the exhibits were interactive. Kids and adults could see how the machine's actually work.

They were also celebrating Brain Week and we saw some really cool presentations from the science department of UT Martin.

This is a busy week for me. Birthday week for Bug always is. Today I bake her cake for her party, crumb coat on Wednesday and decorate on Friday. We stow the cake in the freezer after cool down and crumb coat. Cakes frost better that way. I also have a few decorations to finish and I have some wrapping to do. Tomorrow I take treats to celebrate with her class.

Next week I'm taking an Eva Day. I think I'll need it!

OMG! I just managed to post a photo. I can't believe it! OK, so it's sideways, but at least it's on the posting. This is a photo I took on my IPad this morning. It's a Christmas cactus that I got just before at Thanksgiving at Aldi's over two years ago. Love the color of the bloom. I usually get a lot of blossoms for Thanksgiving, a few at Christmas, and a couple at Easter.

Sounds like you are having a fun-filled weekend. The idea of having fleas in the house scares the dickens out of me. Any way you can get them out of the house? They can get on humans too, can't they?

Hello Al

I just got back from an hour or so at the hotel pool with my brother, sister in law and the kids. They will be heading out after a quick shower and hope to get 6-7 hours for driving in before dinner tonight. They will finish up tomorrow at our parents house for Easter dinner. We had such a wonderful time over the last several days. The kids are such a blessing and were so fun to have around.

I am cleaning up the house for a few hours. I have found a few fleas so I washed the dog and put Advantix on everyone. All the rugs are being pulled up and washed and I sprayed all the carpets. I hope that will do the trick. Othewiser, I will have to figure out how to bomb the house with the cats. I have a patio I can put them in if I need to and then bomb that the next day perhaps. Hopefully it doesn't get to that.

Mike and I are meeting his brother, sister in law and some friends at the local baseball stadium that used to be the spring training camp for the Dodgers. There is a Jackie Robinson Memorial game with some minor league team tonight. Its an annual event and a lot of fun. And then we are relaxing tomorrow.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. Happy Easter to any Christians out there

Good Morning:

Last fall my home had some hail damage to the siding. The workmen came to reside my house on Thursday and were to come back yesterday to finish. Unfortunately they didn't have enough siding. I was told they should have it by Monday or Tuesday. OK, but I'm not holding my breath. Just a small part has yet to be done, and in any case the house is wrapped in some special stuff, so even if it take a while the rain won't be an issue.

I just spoke to my daughter and she sounds great. She is so glad she got her Master's in Organizational Development. It all applies to this new job. She's got her work cut out for her because her predecessor left no notes, manuals, etc. she had everything in her head. So Helena is starting from ground zero. She loves the work but has a lot to do. The commute is not good so she will probably be getting a studio apartment about a block from her work. The location is very good and there are restaurants and a couple of supermarkets in walking distance. I'm so happy for her.

Today it is supposed to get up to about 70. Woo Hoo! I'm going to take a shower and get out there. Spring is here.

Enjoy the weekend everyone.

Kim - sorry for the post loss - I've experienced the same and compose in my word program if I think it will be long.
Sounds like a wonderful Easter weekend with family. Enjoy!
Eva - gotta love those internal emoticon they give us "extra" time to ourselves...
Love that the willow is thriving. Bug will so enjoy watching it grow.

Our vine is Virginia Creeper, which adheres by pads as opposed to roots, so the pads will eventually give way. Early spring is the perfect pruning time and since painting will occur later in the season, we have time to prep the siding and wood.
Today is the Spring Red/White emoticon game, so hope to get a little yard work in before we leave.

Kali: Your feet look fantastic! Good luck with the removal of the vine! What kind of vine is it?

Ms. Gail: Like Kali I can see you with a huge fruit salad ready to serve up a healthy side for an army. So glad it was a hit!

What kind of walking shoes did you purchase? I'm just curious. My neighbor wears nothing but Merrill. She has RA and it does a number on her feet.

Thank you about the helping with my step dad. You know I think one of the perks of staying home, I'm usually available to help others. The last 7 or 8 months has been rather busy, but it's rewarding and a blessing in the end.

Oh and yes I did plant the willow for Bug. She helped of course. And I will say, what looked half dead is now pretty vibrant. The kid has a green thumb. She picks sad plants that I'm sure are going to die and the saves them. My grandpa and Jim's ma'maw could do the same. It's in her genes.

Kim: I hate when my posts fly out into the great blue yonder never to be retrieved again. I've taken to copying them to where if I have to repost because of a glitch, I don't have to remember what I sent.

You'd think with a long weekend I'd sleep past 4:45 am but nope. I can't beat cats or internal clocks. So I'm enjoying some quiet time, letting Bug sleep in before the days gets started, and I'm planning out the best way to get it all done before bedtime.

I posted a nice long post yesterday and it disappeared into cyberspace somewhere. It was so frustrating that I had to just move on rather than try to repost it then.

I have moved all my work around this week so that I could spend some time with my brother's family. They arrived today and I met the on the beach around 3pm for a few hours. Then we cleaned up and met again for outdoor patio dining at a very nice Italian restaurant near their hotel. I have to work another half day tomorrow so they will be spending the day at the beach or the pool at their hotel. Then we will probably dine again at another ocean front restaurant. The kids were very excited to show me how much they have grown since Thanksgiving - and they really have! I thoroughly enjoyed myself with them! Mike had a ball too. Kaizen (the 3 year old girl) was quite taken with him tonight. So much fun!

They are leaving on Saturday morning so that they can make it back to my parents house for Easter dinner with my sister and her kids. Mike and I are going to the Jackie Robinson Memorial baseball game on Saturday night and will likely spend Sunday in a very relaxed and low key way. I believe he mentioned getting Mahi steaks. Can't go wrong there!

Gail - emoticon I can picture you with enough fruit salad for an army!
Glad you can take care of your bunion with Tylenol - I'd definitely wait as if you opt for surgery, it can take longer than planned (months as opposed to weeks...)
emoticon rising here today, but it looks like we'll avoid additional emoticon until tomorrow. DH is attending a dinner with friends, so I'm taking the opportunity to start removing a vine from the house. We've decided to leave it on the west (original location), but remove it from both the north and south walls as it is starting to "take over". We're getting the house painted late summer, so I have plenty of time to clean those areas that need it.
I'm looking forward to a long weekend!

Good Morning:

Well, the Seder was really nice and they other guests were lovely people. It was very ecumenical. Two pastors participated, as well as a few Jews, an agnostic or two and some Protestants. There were 12 of us in all. My fruit salad was a great success and the two guests who were vegans took home the bit that was left over. I had made enough for an army.

Last fall the siding on my home had hail damage and I contracted to have the house resided. They were supposed to come tomorrow, but at about 8am I heard pounding and saw that they had come a day early. All right by me. They should finish up by tomorrow.

Kali: Thanks for the info on the bunion surgery. I had an appointment with a podiatrist set for next week, but got a call from his office yesterday and they said he was not "in network" for my plan. Strange, because it was the insurance company that gave me his name. I'll have to look into that. At any rate, I cancelled the appointment, and it's just as well. I'll wait till after I return from my fall trip to pursue it further. My bunion isn't that big and it usually doesn't hurt. I found recently that if I take some tylenol the swelling goes down and there is no more pain. A couple of weeks ago I bought a pair of walking shoes. OMG I never paid so much for a pair of shoes! But these are extraordinary. I could walk and walk in these in total comfort.

Eva: Did you plant the willow tree for Bug? So glad things seem to be pretty much back to normal with your step dad. It's so good of you to look after him. Insurance and medical appointments are daunting to some and you are relieving his anxiety, I'm sure.

Kim: Has your family arrived? Will you be having Easter dinner at your home or will you all be going out?

Thinking of you all.

Hello all - somehow I think I missed seeing this entire conversation...

Gail - cool about your DD & SIL's new digs. Hopefully my e-mail answered your bunion questions? It is wonderful that you can celebrate the Seder with friends. A blessing indeed.
Glad your TIVO is fixed.

Eva - love Cajun food and glad you stepdad is OK. Enjoy your Easter celebration. Some gardening? emoticon Sounds like you planted enough for an army! I spent all weekend raking - good and bad - still a lot of needles embedded in the green stuff that passes for grass, but back and stamina are getting stronger!
emoticon
Kim - I can relate to having a clean abode...

Ranchers and farmers in Kansas burn their fields and this morning we woke to poor air quality...

It's emoticon with a little emoticon now, so hopefully that will clear the smoke away...

Gail - I'm still "suffering" a little (and I mean very little) swelling, but even with the couple months off my feet, I'd highly recommend the surgery if you're in pain...

(We only have two feet...)
Taking Friday and Monday off with the "plan" of completing some much needed emoticon but the forecast looks stormy, so we may move to some "inside" projects...
Good to emoticon everyone.

Good morning!

Mrs. Gail: I'm glad you have your TIVO fixed! Enjoy your dinners and your time with friends!

The lines here are in the air. It's possible a squirrel caused the problem. There's a reading that's running at 42 and should be at 37. They were out here yesterday but I'm not sure that it's fixed. I'm still dropping my wired connection. My desk top does have a wireless option so at the moment I have it set so that it kicks to wireless, which works on a different band, so I have minimum interruptions.

Saturday we are headed to the Discovery Park as part of Bug's birthday. We will see the Da Vinci machines exhibit, then Sunday I'm cooking a heart friendly Easter dinner and inviting my Mom and stepdad to come eat. I made his follow up appointments for him yesterday and made sure all of his meds were called into the pharmacy. And I managed to decipher the FMLA insurance answering machine message so that he can make his phone calls associated with that.

All I can say is, I have a new respect for what my mother has to do for her husband. He's like a bird, easily distracted and doesn't get much accomplished. But then that's part of his charm. LOL

Good Morning:

What an experience! It's been a bear installing the TIVO and after a few hours on Saturday my electrician was unable to make headway. We called Tivo and were on hold forever, so we hung up. Then we called Charter. We must have spoken with 6-7 reps including a supervisor. No-one knew which end was up with the Tivo. A Charter rep stopped by my house in the afternoon and asked if I had called about balloons caught in my wires. No...not me. But I went on to tell him about the trouble we were having installing Tivo. He told me to call for a tech to come out and trouble shoot. Well, they sent an angel. This young man knew exactly what to do. Moreover, he refreshed my modem and programed the Tivo remotes. I'm up and running. To top it all off he was personable, kind, and a pleasure to work with.

Tonight is the second Passover Seder. (The Seder is the meal that Christians refer to as The Last Supper. A friend has invited me to her home tonight for the Seder and I'm bringing a fruit salad for 10. I went to the supermarket yesterday and got a lot of fruit. I'll have pineapple, strawberries, blackberries, cantaloupe, seedless red grapes, oranges, and, if they ripened enough over night, kiwi. My husband was very secular so we would only have a traditional meal and have the children recount the story of the Seder. It's been years and years since I've been to a proper Seder, and I'm looking forward to it. This Sunday I'm going to my friend's house for Easter Dinner. Then, in two weeks my son-in-law's mom is having Easter Dinner at her home. Very ecumenical we are.

Going to sit back and read today.

Gail

Kim: Your attitude is wonderful. Being aware of your blessings and sharing time with loved ones is great.

Eva: Glad your step dad is home and doing better. Hope they iron out your electronic difficulties. What a pain that can be. On rare occasions we have outages here, but since all our lines in my are underground, it's usually a critter that has burrowed into the ground and chewed at something.

Step dad is home! He's able to drive and doesn't need a sitter, but I will be going today to assist in making follow up appointments. Mom is going back to work. He'll make the phone calls but he won't write anything down.

Ms. Gail I hope you get all of your electronics sorted out! There's suppose to be a lineman coming to work in our area. Apparently there's a strange band issue. Somebody didn't set something correctly. Anyway it's affecting the whole area.

It's nice that your electrician didn't charge you for his time. It's wonderful to find really honest and good people in this world.

Kim: I hope all your blessings fit into the week smoothly :)

I ended up raking for about 3 hours yesterday. It's a "hazard" of all the trees. Every year I dread the work and every year I find that I really do enjoy it. I think I dread it because other people make out like I'm suppose to hate raking.

Hello Team!

I keep thinking that life is going to slow back down to a "normal" speed since my busy season is over. But I am beginning to realize that for the most part, I am just going to be a busy woman for the foreseeable time. This week is a little crazy because I have a client closing for Good Friday so I have to fit them in early. I also have my brother and his family coming into town on Thursday thru Saturday. They are staying at a nice hotel on the beach so I don't have to worry about getting my house ready. But I want to spend as much time with them as possible. Thankfully Friday is taken of for me. Now I just need to see how I can arrange Thursday so I can get a bit more time.

I guess you can't complain too much when your biggest problems in life are trying to fit all your blessing in.

I am ignoring my internet issues at my house for now. I get internet on my laptop and handheld devices. But not on my printer or desktop. Since I work out of the house a lot, I have managed to use client offices for printing when needed. But I do need to get it worked out. One of these days

Eva: So glad to learn your shoulder is better. It's so disheartening when we are in pain, especially when it's prolonged. Good that your step dad will be coming home. I bet he's a happy camper.

I had to laugh when you said your in-law's newspaper is good for letting the gerbils have something to shred. Our local newspaper is so bad I haven't gotten it in years. These days I don't know that the papers are good for anything except the sports pages.

These last few days have been tense with the international situations and I'm so apprehensive. Will we ever know peace? Things seem to be getting more brutal by the day. What legacy will there be for future generations? Truly, it saddens me.

I've got Charter coming out today to see if they can troubleshoot my Tivo. My electrician came on Saturday and spent about 3 hours trying to set it up. We must have spoken to 6 Charter reps including a supervisor. They didn't know what was going on. As for Tivo, we were on hold forever and never got connected. My electrician is something else. When I asked how much I owed him he said, "Nothin'. I didn't do anything." I was blown away. I thought at the least he would charge me for his time.

Wishing you all post today. I'd love to know how you are doing and what is new in your life.

Gail

Good Morning!

Ms. Gail I'm glad that charter got your telephone service back up and running.

My step dad should be home today. He would have been released Saturday, but someone forgot to file the insurance form to get approval for his life vest. It's basically a wearable defibrillator. His doctor says he can't leave without it so he's had a very expensive extended "vacation" as he calls it. Mother is doing well. She has a check up with her doctor this morning and then will be at the hospital to pick up my step dad.

The inlaws are well enough to be in the mountains. That means Eva picks up the mail and newspapers. It's okay, I need the newspapers to let the gerbils have something to shred.

This weekend I did get to do some gardening! We planted tomatoes, cantaloupes, squash and flower seeds (they are direct sow). Then we planted a willow tree. I don't know why Bug wanted one so badly, but I suppose buying trees is better than buying toys.

This week is Easter and Party Prep. If nothing health wise for anyone goes off we'll be at the Da Vinci Machines Exhibit Saturday and throughout the week I'll be building party favors and making a few decorations. And as always I'll be sharing pictures of my handy work. My husband says I should have been a party planner, but I think that would have taken all the fun out of it.

In other good news. I suppose it's a NSV, all that foam board cutting knocked something back into place. I haven't had any hip or shoulder issues in a week. Knock on wood I hope it stays that way! I haven't been this free in movement in over 2 years.

Good Morning:

The sun is out. Hallelujah! It's a good omen.

Last night my phone service went out. Luckily I have a cell phone. I use the cell so infrequently (2-3 times a year) that I haven't even memorized the number. Instead I have it pasted on the back of the phone. Long story short, I called on my cell and Charter Spectrum fixed it on their end. It involved the "registration", whatever that is. It's good to be back in business. It's not good to live alone without a phone.

I went to the Hospice Thrift Shop yesterday and got few things: I frame for my daughter's baby picture that I'll display in the family room, a light long sleeve sweater, and a kitchen tool that I was hoping to find. The tool has a very wide blade so that after you chop something up you can scoop the veggies up and toss them in the pot. I think they call it a cleaver prop. A few days ago I went to St. Vincent's and bought a small wire whisk. Truly, I haven't done this much shopping in ages. LOL.

Hope you are all doing well.

Gail

Eva: My but you've been busy. How is your step dad doing? And how is your mom?

Kali: I have a bunion on my left foot and have been thinking of having it removed. I went on the net the other day and they had ways to treat it without an operation. One thing that was suggested was taking aspirin, ibuprofen or tylenol. Well, I tried that and the swelling went down and the bunion was minimized. Now I'm not sure what to do. How long did it take you to heal completely and do normal activities including hiking? Six weeks?

Well the internet people came and it's half fixed.

My step dad is still in the hospital. He was transported Monday just after 2:30 pm. With luck he'll come home today. His heartbeat was back to normal last night, so unless they call for more testing then he'll be released.

It's been a long week. I hope everyone is having a good day.

Wow Kim It sounds like you had a very busy weekend!

I have internet people coming tomorrow. This modem is on the blink. It's deciding to drop either the wifi or the wired connection. We've had this problem before. I shouldn't have to call them to have a remote reset done monthly. i figure something went wonky with their last software update, either that or the thing is just at the end of it's lifespan.

The good news is I'm caught up from the week of spring break.

Hello all

Gail - thank you for starting the new board. it's nice to have fresh new place to come to. And it also sends a notice to everyone so that anyone who may have been dropped from the prior month.

I hope everyone is having a good spring so far. I went run/walking with my girlfriends on Sunday morning. We did 5 miles with a little less than half of running. I feel pretty good about that. Then I met Mike at the river. We paddle boarded up to the marina to see the Nina and Pinta. I assume they were replicas and not the actual ones that sailed over from Spain. We were both shocked how small they were. It would not have been a comfortable trip over under even the best of circumstances. Then I was going to rest, but I decided to clean the blade of my ceiling fans and caused such a mess that I ended up doing a pretty good spring cleaning. I was exhausted by the time I went over to Mike's for dinner. But it is nice to have the house in good shape

Mrs. Gail: Thank you for starting the April Board!

How wonderful that you daughter and sil are building you a winter get away. a MIL's suite is fantastic. And you won't have to worry about the snow so much!

Bug spent the night with my mother on Saturday night so Jim and I went to a new cajun bistro in Jackson. Isabella's! It's a bit out of the way, but if your this way I really recommend getting over there.

Yesterday we started insulating under the floor. I think I have enough of the insulation boards to do the entire underfloor. I hope so. I spent 3 hours cutting the boards to the size we need. That's a lot of cutting!

Happy April Everyone.

Well, things will be changing for me next winter. My daughter and sil are building a retirement home in Florida on the Gulf coast. They've several years till retirement, but she can't stand the cold of Wisconsin winters and wants desperately to have a place to go to. They found their ideal spot and are keeping me in their plans. Theirs's a mother-in-law bedroom and bathroom in the front of the house that's separated from the rest of the house by a foyer. She's expecting me to spend a lot of time in the winter there till they retire so the house doesn't sit empty. It's quite a boon for me as I'm intolerant of cold, bleak weather. After they retire, if I'm still around, they'll put up with me. LOL I get on very well with them, but mostly I keep to myself, reading and listening to beautiful music. It works for me.

Having a friend to dinner tonight. I really like this lady, she's a sweetheart and I don't get to see her very often.

Wishing you all a happy Sunday.

Gail
